The vigil ceremony that takes place here on Veterans Day presented by AFJROTC is very awesome for the past 5 years. Also its a amazing monument to see as well.
The Sergeant Floyd Monument located in Sioux City Iowa is a great historic location. The monument has a very interesting history. The full story of the monument is available on Google. I would encourage you to stop at the monument and refresh up on some American history. It is a very pretty area with great views of the rivers and surrounding areas. Please get out and visit monuments before its too late due to all the protesting.
We stopped to stretch our legs during a long day of driving. Nice views, informative displays and a short walk made us right to continue our trip. If youre interested in the Lewis and Clark expedition I think youll find it worthwhile.
Its a monument. There are some nice grassy areas and some benches to sit on and a nice view of the highway and river. There really isnt much to see other than the monument. We did however sit for a while on the benches and enjoy the weather as well as take a few different photos from different views. It pales in comparison to the Washington Monument but it looks very similar. Something to check out if you have nothing better to do I guess.
Nice. Love to visit and see American history, the story of our country. Some good some not but it is who we are. Change the future but you cant change the past.
Thank you for providing an Iowa State Sign!! Roadside pictures are dangerous. State sign pictures are the best gifts to have on road trips. The staff were friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. THANKS for also providing the Lewis & Clark NHT stamp to add to our NP Passport book! Hope to visit again and spend more time in Iowa in the future.
Coming from Washington, D.C., it made us feel a bit closer to home to see an obilisk at this site. Though not as big as the famous monument in our neck of the woods, it stands for a lot, and reading about its history was really interesting. Plus, the views were gorgeous. Highly recommend a visit here!
No admission,a few informational signs, beautiful view. Interesting chapter on the Lewis and Clark journey
Very inspiring and great views of the Missouri River.
But you cant drive up to it. Sad times
Nice views and quiet, not alot of people.
That is such a cool place. It is a cool monument.
Not very much to it, but a cool little historic spot. The overview is just of a highway, so not much there. Pretty tall on person. Nicely maintained garden around it while I was there as well.
My husband is a Lewis and Clark expedition fan and we went to the monument to show our respect Srg Floyd. The monument is nice but its located in an area of town that is not kept up very well. There are a few signs to read that give interesting information about the expedition. One was almost unreadable due to scratches on the fiberglass sign. There are a few benches to sit on overlooking the water...and industrial buildings. It was pretty hot when we went and there isnt a lot of shade so we read the signs and the multiple plaques on the monument in memory all the people who were involved with getting the monument read, and then left. It was nice to visit but is definitely a quick stop kind of place. Small parking area but there is a restroom.
Beautiful lookout over the Missouri River. Very interesting history.
Very cool! You can see the river from here too.
Clean place for a picnic
Its a concrete stick in the ground. Oh, theres also grass, gravel and a fence. It was amazing.
I was pleasantly surprised to visit this monument. Great piece of history right here in Sioux City. This did not involve any physical activity as the parking lot is on top of the hill right by the monument. I was the only one there when I visited during the weekday in the evening hours. The views from the top of the hill are amazing. Try to come during sunset to really enjoy the view. You can see the Missouri River from the top as well. It took less than an hour to enjoy.
I honestly didnt even know I was near this place but now that I know its there Im definitely going back to see it
Great place to catch a view, some history, and some pokemon.
Love history. Loved learning more about the Lewis and Clark Trail and Sergeant Floyd
A nice little bit of history here.
This was not far off of the interstate and we felt it was worth the beautiful drive. Perfect for any history buff. The monument is easy to park near and walk up to but there is also a small walking tour thats down a dirt trail. The view frim the monument was nice and we were able to see antelope on our drive out to the site.
Gorgeous place to stop and learn about the area and how it relates to the Lewis & Clark Expedition
The scenery and just the way it made me feel when I was there was amazing
If youre into history especially the Lewis and Clark expedition you will want to stop here. Nice placards explaining the history of the site and a great view of the river valley.
Drive past this monument for years and never knew its significance in the Lewis and Clark travels West.
Very nice monument to sgt flloyd, small park area, storyboards, picnic tables, restrooms
So much history and a great view, you gotta go
Great History
Very cool monument. Really peaceful up there.
A OK nice National monument. they fail to transfer the reason of the USAA expedition to this geografical place, fail completely in educate the visitors in the geopolitical realities of the time in 1800 and the importance of the expedition to the United States of America today. Go and visit but read couple of books on the subject before you visit. Saludos
Its a nice monument, but thats it. The parking lot isnt very good. The roads around the monument dont dont make access easy, and if you miss the turn, everyone drives so fast through there that its challenging to turn around. With it being such a grand monument, it seems strange that so little else is around it.
We have been bicycling the Lewis and Clark Trail and wanted to pay our respects to Sgt Charles Floyd. The monument is wonderful and a fine tribute to a member of the Corps of Discovery.
It was nice piece of history to learn about.
Beautiful view, alot knowledge and history about the exploration of our country
Great monument
Finally stopped here after 25years of driving past this! Pretty awesome monument
Nice place to have a picnic and see for miles
Very nice monument to Charlie Floyd.
Very educational for local students.
Nice view. Good for kids to run around. Needs some fixtures updated, fixed and cleaned.
Great monument. Be sure to go past the monument to the benches overlooking the river.
Nice place to see when you visit the Sioux City...It is FREE and no admission fee or parking fee...
Quick stop off I-29 with a great view of Sewer City. Looks just like the Washington Monument in D.C. minus all the crowds and fanfare. Odds are you will be the only one there.
Solid monument. Cool place to visit if in town or passing through.
History I enjoyed it
Beautiful monument and walk down a little to the west and you will see a great view of the river and the area below. I always stop here when I am in town.
Good view of the river. Overlooks I-29. Hard to imagine what the site looked like in Lewis and Clarks era when they buried Sgt. Floyd in this area.
Beautiful view. Appreciated the information available on signs
Love the view, wish there wasnt a housing development going across the way.
Another very good pokemon stop. Its actually a pokemon gym to battle on ironically
Peaceful place...
Beautiful view
Neat site
It was a really nice place to take the family for a day of fun.they have picnic shelter and walking trails.
A great Historical site to see! Watch out for weirdos there!
This monument remembers the only member of the Lewis and Clark expedition to die. Great view of the Missouri River and surrounding area.
Impressive monument to the only man who died on the Lewis and Clark expedition.
Its peaceful and has a lovely view. There is just enough posted info so one knows the significance of the monument and of Sgt. Floyd
Interesting part of not only Siouxland history but American history.
A miniature Washington Monument. It seems like if Floyd had not died in Sioux City, it would barely be on the map. The Floyd name is everywhere.
May or may not have been shot in the back. The world may never know.
It was super interesting to learn about the only person that died on the Lewis & Clark expedition. Beautiful views of the river and what I consider the lame Loess Hills.
Great piece of western History
A real piece of history. One can only imagine the view back in the day of Lewis and Clark
It is worth the short trip to find out the history of Sergeant Floyd.
Beautiful area and so enjoyed the history.
Very impressive monument plus a great view over to Nebraska.
So fitting, the American flag that was flying over Lewis and Clark. The 15 stars and 15 stripes.
A nice place to visit in Sioux city with a great view
