Great place to visit. Will come again! They have loads of neat items to explain the beginning of Iowa.
Great place to visit! For being a free to the public museum, they really put a lot of effort into making it interactive and interesting. We started out watching their 12 min film which gave an in depth look at Sioux City and its history and was well put together and kept our attention throughout the entire film/show. We then went on to explore a bunch of artifacts from the cities past and lots of interactive exhibits. If you are looking to spend an hour doing something fun for free, I would definitely recommend. We were also able to park just across the street from the museum and it was only $0.75 an hour.
It is a very organized museum displaying local history in are very thoughtful and intriguing way.
I came from Florida to visited my sister and it was a nice place to bring the kids.
Cool place to go with the kids, they loved it, wasnt too fond of the rubber fossil pit they had but the kids were
If you are in the Sioux City area, this is an absolute must stop! The Sioux City Public Museum is a really well done space, and it tells the local history in a fun, engaging way. I truly wish more cities had a a place devoted to their history like this. I learned so much about Sioux City that I probably would have never found out if werent for the museum. The exhibits are unique and stay true to the culture and development of the area. Its also free! Truly, it is a great place to spend an hour or two with family or even by yourself (which I did). Definitely check out this place!
Nice museum. Lots of local historical exhibits. Did not know what I was walking into but was a pleasant surprise. Best of all its free.
I wish they had better hours. The exhibits are usually good. Sometimes some of the larger traveling exhibits stay too long. My tax dollars at work here and I like it.
We had a short stay in town and stopped in here. Pretty amazing for a free museum! My kids loved it, especially the rock area. We watched the video show and explored the exhibits for a couple hours. Clean bathrooms. Great activity for a snowy day!
Its fairly interesting but I havent found myself going to it more than once and it only holds your attention for so long.
What a fun place!! Came with my daughter for a field trip. But definitely want to come back when we have more time to really look. Thank You for the great tour!! We enjoyed the Dinosaur Dig too!!
You get to learn the history of Sioux City Iowa and how it got started. The museum was nice and heart warming to those who helped recreate the city. Thanks so much for making the museum so others can learn also.
Welcoming as you enter. Donation only. Sit in the movie theatre, relax and learn about Sioux City,Iowa. Stroll through out, read and see the many diverse items. Come back another time as you will see things you missed the time before. Take your photo and post it on internet.
They have a good selection with plenty of seating and a quiet atmosphere that is good for reading. Friendly staff to help you find what you are looking for to boot
I had fun was by myself
Took my 6 yrs old grandson here and had a really nice time. Going to go back on my own and soak in some local history.
Very well done! Friendly staff and a wide variety of historical items from Sioux Citys past
The most beautiful interactive museum ever! You cant even find a similar one in big techy California! The admission is amazingly free. We loved the fossil dig - brushes were provided. It looks like beach sand but upon touching, its just rubber sand. The Corn Palace theatre inside was adorably nostalgic & the doors magically opened when the movie was finished. This is the best place to find out about the history of Sioux City (Little Chicago) its people & businesses through the ages. Staff are cheerful and kind. This is such a clean special museum with information on the Native Indian & Brazilian African culture, Stockyard, Palmers Candy factory, Corn production, Orpheum theatre, Fossils, Art, Ghost mirror etc. I highly recommend this lovely place, it took us 3 hours to finish our tour.
Love it lots of good stuff to check out
Super fun very cool so beautiful always interesting always learning something new we love it bravo
I love this place. Free 1 hour parking up the street in the parking garage
Had a good time checking out the exhibit
Its free, its cool kids enjoyed it,
My grandson loves to go to see the history of Sioux City.
I cant believe this place is free! Very educational! Pretty massive space.
For a free museum, this place has a lot to offer. Worth taking a couple hours out of your day!
It had some good exhibits for being free. My grandson loved the dinosaur dig.
What a great way to learn about Sioux City. Would highly recommend for those who are cutting and have the time to stop by. Could spend hours but 30 to 45 mins was a great experience
Really good museum if you are a history buff.
Very well done museum! You get a great feel for Sioux City after going through this place.
Really enjoyed the movie and really nice display of native american historical items. Very educational on history of Sioux City.
The care and love that goes into building these exhibits shows. This museum packs a lot of history and culture into a small space. I recommend making this museum a must see in Sioux City.
Great place to go if you wanna pass time. Not really a place for little kids to go and e joy. But if you wanna know a little more about SC history this is thr place to go.
An amazing place to visit for free. Highly recommended.
The kids loved it and had fun painting the rocks
Incredibly interactive fun local day trip and so much history!
I enjoyed this musem and very interesting videos they showed and good history about stuff.
Great place! Free of charge too! (Except for paying the meter outside to park) There was a wonderful, short (15 minute or so) theatre showing of the history of Sioux City. To watch this you just had to request they play it at the front desk. The theatre entrance was right near the front desk. The museum is quite large with tons of neat stuff. Our personal favorite was the kids fossil dig area and connected to that room - a room full of beautiful rocks and gems, fossils and even meteorites. There was even more that that though - tons of Sioux City historical items and also things from around the country. We were there for over an hour and didnt get to look at everything. The kids really enjoyed it and theres also a gift shop.
Its for education!
This museum was very hands on and showed many interesting and uneak things. The museum was children friendly, it had a gift shop and a theater that showed the history of Sioux City Iowa and how it became what we know today. It showed many old and historical pieces. There were many wonderful paintings and cute puzzles that the kids could interact with.
First time going there, very fun with tons of interest points. All 4 of my boys were easily entertained the whole time.
My daughter absolutely loves coming here, so many interesting things to see. Also fun for adults.
Its always an adventure going to the museum.
Loved it, interesting with a very good customer service and a l oi t of history about the town!!!
Really nice. Great selection. No dedicated parking.
Great history of Sioux city, wonderful for kids. Nice activity on a cold winter day
Great history
We were pleasantly surprised by this museum. Sioux City is a nice town but I dont think it has grown in the last 40 years the way other cities have. However it has history to it, and a certain down to earth charm. The Sioux City Public Museum seems to capture that very well. The museum is not what I would call large but it is absolutely jammed full of objects and exhibits that are practically piled on top of each other. Yet despite that density things flow and there is not a sense of clutter per se. They have some very good short videos including an orientation to the towns history that is projected on three different screens for an imersive effect in a mock opera house theater. At the conclusion of the film the main screen rises and behind it the doors from the theater open into the museum automatically. It is absolutely worth a stop if you have some time in town. The creators and everyone who has worked on the museum deserve a pat on the back for a job well done. Plus its free.
Well organized and lit
Havent gone for a while, alot of new updates. Kids had fun.
Im really glad that Sioux City has something this nice to offer to the public. They change their exhibits quite often so just because you went once doesnt mean you never need to go back again. If you wait 1 to 3 months you will see they really bring some unique fun exhibits to this museum location. Such as years ago they had a great Jackson Pollack painting and popular themes for kids quite often as well. Check it out, you will enjoy the day. Fun restaurants downtown to go afterwards too.
We went to the museum for a special workshop for younger kids and it was great. The kids loved doing all the projects and visiting the museum as well. They loved the log cabin. A great place to bring kids to learn and explore.
I have been to some of the biggest museums in the country, and for a small city they really did a great job. It was entertaining and educational. There is no charge. There is no free parking. Meter on street parking is the best option.
Checked out Siouxland Rocks with the kiddoz. Good fun.
Great place to take the kids and learn something. They have great displays and different movies throughout the museum. We are frequent visitors because my kids always love going.
Detailed and interesting exhibits provide a thorough historical perspective on Sioux City, IA. Learned a lot about a city and state I knew nothing about. The video in the theater, which is also neat, is great but the three screens can be overwhelming and nauseating.
I took my four year old grandson to the Sioux City Public Museum for the first time several weeks ago. He had an absolute blast checking out all there was to be seen. I think his favorite was using the little brushes to dig for dinosaur bones in The Big Dig. He played there an hour discovering and rediscovering dinosaurs. When we were on our way out the door he looked up at me with his big blue eyes and asked if we could come back again someday. Thats a true win! When the child asks if you can return again one day you know they have had a very good time and he was learning about many things at the same time. I would recommend the Sioux City Public Museum. They have many items of Interest for all ages
Considering my general opinion of my own town, this place surprised me. Very good setup, the place is very modern and clean. The exhibits, of which there are a ton are very informative and fun, and very interesting. the staff was friendly. Definitely worth checking out. It is really nice to see something like this in a town where the old is really old, and the new is usually kind of old too.
Awesome displays and you can bring your camera.
Great way to spend a few hours learning some history about sioux city
Nice museum with lots of displays and other interesting things.
Good museum about Sioux City...First Coca Cola car and first generation of Get-way computer on this museum...They take free memorial pictures of you in this museum...
Excellent presentation of materials.....professionally done...
So much history packed into this museum. And its FREE!! Complete history of the city and surrounding area. From dinosaurs, gemstones and automotives to full size teepees and livestock, it has it all. Lots of hands on activities and push to hear exhibits. Even has a dinosaur dig where the children can discover dinosaur bones on their own. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. We had such a great family day of discovery here.
If you live in or visiting Sioux City, I highly recommend checking out this museum. Really unique with lots to see. The history video they play in their theatre is a must.
Great place to spend a few hours exploring Sioux City history. Its free to visit and the exhibits are very cool and interactive. Ive enjoyed the special exhibits theyve had as well.
Great way to spend a couple hours and learn about Sioux City
The exhibits are fascinating. They have an exceptional gem and mineral display with some nice fossils. The regional displays are really well done and the staff is very pleasant and engaging.
Nice city museum and free
Beautiful museum, lots of hands on activities for the kids. Great history of the Sioux City area. Well worth a visit. Be ready to pay the meter for parking.
I love to go a couple times of year. Great history to learn and go see about Sioux City.
They had good service
Always fun!!
Everything you want to know about Sioux City!! Awesome museum.
My kids really loved digging for dinosaur bones and teeth
Great facility, great staff
My daughter was totally impressed .
We took the grandkids and had a great experience.
Really neat place. Lots of good stuff.
Very nice just need more timeTo look at all of it
Havent been here in years and finally got to take my son with. We both enjoyed the movie especially.
Always find something I didnt see on previous visits
Great musuem. Really enjoyed learning more about Sioux City.
A surprising number of very interesting displays. Lots of history about the beginnings of the city and influences through the years. Worth a visit.
Fantastic displays.
There seems to be no order in here. Ive been to many history museums, including Pioneer Village in Minden, NE and The Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer and the Sioux City Museum felt like everything was kind of just thrown in there willy-nilly. it felt confusing and it didnt help that there was some kind of summer camp there when we went that let their kids just run throughout the building.
Very informative and fun
Had alot of fun here! And its free! Definately check out the corn palace theater on the right when you first walk in. Youll learn some interesting facts about Sioux Citys history!
Friendly staff, new events change out. A great meeting space but also to see how much Sioux City history affects us.
A wonderful place with so much to see and learn I highly recommended this place!
This place captures so much of my memories of Sioux City. I took my fiance there and every exhibit innitiated another story. I imagine that many Siouxlanders feel that same nostalgia touring the museum, and many others get a sence of the citys rich history.
This is a must see! Great exhibits and super kid friendly. They loved the dinosaur dig, theater, and the hands on exhibits. Thanks for being a Sioux City Original!
Great place to see history. Lots of things to see. Very interactive. A Lot if history of the area that most people probably do not know about.
A beautiful, modern, and very well done museum about the complete history of Sioux City. Child-friendly too.
I took my grandson there last year. definitely worth see the film at the beginning was awesome. All ages will love this and it is the history of Sioux City. Great Stuff!!A muat see would definitely go again.
Always love to visit.
