This is a great place to spend an hour or so learning about history from Lewis and Clark, the Missouri River, Native Americans, the Army and more. It is a well kept military survey vessel from the 1930s. There is a gisft shop, the main deck and upper deck filled with historical items from the time period and area. Great for kids or anyone interested in maritime travel.
Very Historical nice to tour and learn some History. Well worth stopping to see.
This museum is cool, a lot of history in it. There is a a ton of artifacts behind glass that show things that were used when this museum was a working boat on the river. There are a lot of pictures of different types of people and places that are all up and down the river from the time period. Very educational and the people working here are very knowledgeable about the history of the boat and the man the boats named after.
Its a cool little boat but I would have like to know more of the history and why this location? Did it travel the river behind it and if so what is the significance of that river?
Great museum, learned a lot that I never knew about this time in our countrys history
This is right next door to the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center. There is a rest stop bathroom and playground in between the two buildings. We were thoroughly surprised by this welcome center, which is actually a historic boat! There are three floors to explore and much of it has been preserved. The controls are original and you can actually use them as well as ring the bell. Otherwise, you can explore the captains room, office and bathroom. You can also learn more about the history of the Indians in the area as well. A gift shop is right there at the entrance for some goodies too. We enjoyed our walk through this cool museum.
Very informative. Friendly staff.
Welcome center and little museum inside the boat! Was a nice little surprise.
The visitor center is a boat named after Sergeant Floyd who died on the Lewis and Clark expedition. It is a cool little self-guided tour that doesnt cost anything to check out. Learn a little bit about Lewis and Clark as well as some history of the Soiux City area. The people working in the gift shop were friendly and helpful to provide information about the museum.
A great place to visit and look around if you like historical museums. Also has a great view of the river, a nearby park, and other recreational activities once youve explorer the museum
Had lots of free information pamphlets as well as lots of inexpensive souvenirs. Upper 2 levels was a museum for Seargent Floyd and river boats in general. 3rd level was the pilots room complete with working bell that you could ring.
Lots of information, get to wander all over the boat and play with the controls on the top deck. Not on the river but next to it, fun experience.
I found it to be very interesting. Though its not very big, there is a ton of information. The staff was very helpful. Definitely worth checking it out, in my opinion.
Very informative and plenty of exhibits.
Great way to spend your free time. Did I mention that the entry fee is FREE? This was a great history lesson of the river boats, the Might Mo and of Sioux City Iowa. The staff was helpful and informative and the displays were amazing. We spent about an hour touring the boat. Pulling the rope in the wheel house to make the bell ring is mandatory for every kid and kid at heart!
Really neat and informative. Great for all ages.
What a surprise! You can walk all through the boat and get a pretty good idea what it was like traveling up and down the river back in the 1930s. Great little museum, friendly helpful staff and nice gift shop with Sioux City items.
Really enjoyed touring the riverboat! The employees were super nice and knowledgeable. The grounds are very clean and beautiful. Highly recommend checking it out!
Worth the trip. Helpful and friendly staff. Free tour and great prices in the gift shop.
Always love this place!
Everyone should check this out. Amazing history.
Great use for the ship to be used as a museum. Very informative and easy to get to.
Kids loved it and the folks working there knew exactly what to recommend for them - lego ship and captain (pilot’s) deck. Check it out!!
Excellent museum and so much history, plus its the visitors center so they were very informative. Located in a wonderful park too!
This place is pretty neat. I loved how informative it was. I was excited to see some things from closer to home in there as well. Steep steps so if youre not a fan I wouldnt recommend going unless youre OK with seeing just the shop. But very cool otherwise.
Offered lots of history of area and a good look at the workings of a river boat as well as the importance of the river as a means of transportation for goods and people. It is also a welcome center so there is lots of info on things to do in Iowa. The stairs are very steep and narrow as is some of the exhibit space and, though a lift has been installed, I would be very hesitant to take a wheelchair or stroller to upper levels of the boat due to lack of space.
Super cool! Met my dad here and we spent hours checking it out. Stunning models of old boats, very nice staff.
Nice little place of history. Great place to buy some Sioux City Merch.
Informative and fun. Worth a stop. I liked the pilothouse best.
I love this place. The people who work here are always super friendly. The gift shop has good reasonably priced merchandise, the exhibits are top notch, its so much fun to climb up into the pilots house. Its a welcome center where I always feel welcome. I hope that you stop and check it out.
Good place to go for history and its free, dont forget to bring the kids I know my kids loved it.
I really liked the musem a lot and lots of history about it. I enjoyed so much.
Was very neat and intresting staff was very friendly and helpful i will definatly be going back
Staff especially Laurna was very nice and educational
The Museum personnel were very friendly and explained everything well. Also, helped us plan our time there as we had only limited time.
I pooped myself in it
Very informative, interesting. Learnt A lot about the boats of the time, and Lewis and Clark
Nice little place with interesting sections of the boat with knowlegable staff and a small gift shop.
This was the best welcome center we have been to. They have everything! The riverboat is three floors of history, drinks and souvenirs at a reasonable price. A great playground for you to take the kids.
Lots of educational information. Great people.
I just stopped in for visitor information, as I wasnt visiting the museum. The lady on duty was extremely kind and helpful. A very nice variety of Paraphernalia to shop from.Worth a stop.
Enjoyed walking around exploring the history. The people are friendly and approachable.
Pretty interesting...Id recommend seeing it.
Loved the history. Th
Worth it if you are in Sioux Falls. Hint: The Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center is next door!
This is where the visitors or welcome center is. They are very kind and helpful. Not to mention the museum on site is full of dioramas and interesting information. If you climb up the to pilot house make sure to ring the bell!
Innovative chain driven fire engine unexpected.
Very nice setting. Historical information related to Sioux City and the surrounding area was interesting and well presented. Our grandchildren enjoyed the exhibits. If you are physically challenged, the steep stairs to the upper levels may be too much for you. Overall a rewarding experience.
Decent little rest area. Not really what you expect in a rest stop, more of a state welcome stop. Theres a playground for the kids and an nice little museum.
I had a blast!
Nice museum. Part of it is about riverboats and the other part about Lewis and Clarke expedition. Right next to a really nice walking path by the river. You also get to go in the pilot house and play with the controls and ring the bell.
We stopped here while passing through, just looking for a bathroom. This is a really nice museum set up in a restored riverboat. Lots of ship models and informative displays. Small museum shop. The staff was friendly and helpful, loading us up with a staggering number of brochures about other Iowa attractions. We didnt stop anywhere else, but this place was a really pleasant surprise.
Very nice and scenic place to visit. If you have never been here...or any of the places along the river, you need to...even if your passing through. It is absolutely beautiful.
They convert a real ship to the museum and it was beautiful...On the third floor of that you were able to see the great view of the river.
Nice step back in time
Life jacket required. I think Sergeant Floyd was once the mayor of Sioux City or something, like in the ealy 1960s, his name is all over the place. Neat paddle boat museum along I-29 and the Missouri River. Surprisingly, they cram a lot of intetesting things in that boat to look at. Its not on the river, so no need to bring your sea legs. There is also a rest area on site. Who do you like better Lewis or Clark ??
Very friendly volunteers and great info about the Missouri River
The lady working inside was very helpful when I needed directions to Kearney Nebraska and Google kept sending me down roads that were closed due to flooding.
Employees are very knowledgeable friendly and committed
Really great attraction to visit
Have been here twice. First visit was great so when on a trip to Sioux City with a group of friends, recommended it and we all had fun. Staff is so friendly and helpful!
Fun, historical place to visit in Sioux City.
I learn or notice something new every time I visit
Very cool monument!
Definitely centered around younger children. They have some art throughout the building but overall the exhibit was very small.
Great fun for the family!
Was like taking a time machine to the past. Lots of great historical pieces and history info for all ages.
Very nice and clean rest area as well nearby, and theres a lot of parking to take pictures of the river up close.
Great place for all to enjoy
The museum level is very dense with information about native Americans, early settlers, and river development. Very interesting for people interested in history. Not all that child-friendly. For child-friendly, go to the Louis and Clark interpretive center.
Staff was very helpful and informative
If youre at all interested in the history of riverboats on the Missouri, stop by! There are restrooms, a gift shop, and of course an actual riverboat to explore.
Pretty cool stop, kids loved driving the boat.
Great welcome center to Iowa, its a riverboat! We spent over an hour and Glen was well informed docent!
Very fun place to go! Very interactive!
Was nice for an trip with low expectations.
Great rest stop with history!
Interesting place, neat to hear the back stories for the Lewis and Clark expedition.
This was a really cool place to visit and get some momentos.
Well worth going and seeing and they even have an elevator so I could go to the second level.
They have good people
Beautiful place.
They had some great historical pieces and very well done dioramas
Great free place to visit on your way by.
Great place to go to get info about Sioux City. The museum has great exhibits with lots of good information. The models and dioramas are fantastic. Best of all its free.
Great place to visit on any kind of day. Hot, cold, rain, or shine.
Its not a big place but it very well documented museum to visit.
Love it! Great place to bring your family for a look back into history.
Anyone who loves history will love this museum.
Very nice . worth the construction hassel
Very interesting place to visit and learn more about the River, Sgt. Floyd, River Boats and the area in general. The kids can have a picture taken as the captain of the tug boat.
Nice clean park with restrooms and drinking fountain. Also a large sheltered picnic area.
Neat place.
Unexpected, but really enjoyed it with the family. Good gift shop area.
Good public museum to learn new things. Good for young and old
