This place isnt the same. You used to be able to walk on the bridge with the most spectacular views. Now you have to be a ninja to scale it just to get to walk on it. Skip the main walkway and go to the side view trail. (Only left turn)

A long time ago I used to walk out to the other side. Now they have wire up and there is a fine if you are caught on the bridge. Not worth it. Still fun to come and see. It is great that my children get to see it now too. It is very interesting history. If you go, take a trash bag and help clean up.

Vance Creek Bridge is incredible, finding it can be tricky and a little risky, but the adventure is worth all of it! Its about 173 feet above Vance Creek in the middle of the forest, its quiet the site! I believe theyve started taring it down, as its private property and yet people still see it all the time. Youll find signs all over telling you your on private property and your trespassing, but we ignored them :)

A hidden gem. This is off the beaten track and visitors should be aware that you have to traverse a couple of miles of pothole ridden dirt roads to get to the foot access point. There are two paths; one to the bridge itself another which is way marked with pink ribbons through the woods eventually takes you to a clearing on the valley side where you can view the bridge in all its splendor. There are copious signs asking visitors to stay off the structure due to the danger. Please respect these.

If you climb and walk on this historic bridge, you win the award for the STUPIDEST PERSON in the state of Washington! PLEASE! do not ruin the experience for everyone. It is such a beautiful place!! I just didnt feel safe up on the bridge because the longer I was up there, the more I felt like I could do. I started to get a little wreckless just because the height really didnt scare me and I was used to the cracks. It is truly a beautiful place! I just wish it wasnt so dangerous! 30 deaths have been confirmed up there. I can see why its illegal to go up there and you get ticketed. I dont think people should be trespassing like that, but that isnt going to stop them.(I went up legally. The sheriff gave me the okay since I was looking for my brother.) Oh My Gosh, What a thrill! This has got to be one of the best old bridges in Washington. We took pictures and only went out a little ways to get a sense of the danger. This area is now restricted and there are plenty of NO TRESPASSING signs posted. Enter at your own risk!

Ch
Review №63

I havent even been there and Im speechless! The pictures alone should be enough evidence to save this bridge AND make it available to the public. Its a historic and engineering landmark (or it needs to be) and should be made the highlight of a Mason County rail trail. The fact that everything thats happened so far (from the no trespassing signs to the vandalism) has happened really fries me! The bridge is unsafe so I get the signs, but instead of spending money on signs and law enforcement why doesnt Green Diamond (who owns the bridge and surrounding lands) spend the money constructively on making the bridge safe for the public and create a great tourist attraction?! I really hope someone is working on this because Id love to show my support and do whatever I can to save some amazing railroad history!

I went last summer, it was absolutely beautiful. Went today and got a $150 ticket and I didnt even get out of my car or hike the path. The other 3 people I was with also got a ticket ($150 each). The officer told us he handed out over 100 this weekend alone and is getting paid $50 an hour over time to ticket trespassers. Obviously Not to happy about it.

Definitely not worth going there. We got there by car after driving on bumpy roads for over 1 hour, just to see that the bridge is closed and partly built down so that you cant get on it. You need some climbing skills and its really dangerous getting on it. I didnt make it on the bridge... Maybe its better if you get there from the other side and hike there...

WARNING. YOU CAN GO TO JAIL OR GET A $5000 FINE FOR GOING HERE. Its beautiful, yes, but I almost went to jail and got a permanent criminal record for it. The trail and bridge are now a no trespassing zone that is regularly monitored by sheriffs. The trail has been closed and you should probably not go, unless you want to go to jail/pay a huge fine.

Beautiful views, especially in the early morning or during the sunset. I cant lie, it was pretty terrifying being up so high, but we thoroughly enjoy this bridge every time we come here. Trees are knocked down along the trail to prevent you from getting through. Its very easy to get past them as there are clear trails of others venturing out there. I didnt see any authorities when I went (Feb. 2016). The view is remarkable and quite dangerous once youre up there. Be careful! The wooden planks of the bridge are a couple inches apart so you have to watch every step you take to not get your foot stuck in the cracks.

Review №77

ABSOLUTELY no access onto the bridge from the easiest drive up side unless you are physically advanced and not afraid of heights nor walking on a unsafe rail 70ft towards the rest of the bridge. Gotta use rope first to climb on a concrete wall and then walk on a steel frame. Me and my wife would make it but I was sure my kids wouldnt so it was a bummer. To get from the other side you must walk around 4 miles one way on a forest road, closed to cars. ( bring your dirt bike or a Segway off-road) We went on a SIDE VIEW trail into the wild forest and it was so worth it although the viewpoint is very limited. Consider visiting High Steel Bridge 4.5 miles away from Vance Creek Bridge. You can drive onto it.

Really cool place to be. The second tallest train bridge in the world. Its wired off now so dont expect to climb on top of it, plus its super dangerous. Dont risk your life for a picture. People have died falling off of this bridge. Just one gust of wind can knock you clear off your feet. Not a bad walk, we recommend going on the side trail (about half way down on the left) to get a view of the bridge from the side, some of the best shots youll get!! Definitely a must see when exploring the Olympic National park or seattle area in washington state.

I agree with all the other reviewers. The trail is equal parts terrifying (the height!) and breathtaking (the view!). In other words: its absolutely worth it. Heres my advice if youre looking to avoid getting a ticket/fine and its somewhat counterintuitive: go when youd think there are other people going. Its harder to ticket a group of people versus one individual. Plus, if Im really thinking about it, its actually safer when there are more people there.

So this was two years ago; I tried to visit this bridge and green diamond had just bought the property and closed off all the trail heads with no trespassing signs everywhere. A few hundred feet onto the trail a sheriff came out and gave me a ticket for criminally trespassing. After getting it reduced to fishing without a license I was banned from returning. I am wondering if they actually allow people to get close to this bridge now? I think its wrong they ever charged me when I didnt even get to see it.

Thanks to the last few generations that had to open their mouths to non locals that opened their mouths to other non locals. Its been restricted to no one being able to enjoy it. Well unless you like trespassing. Before everyone started coming in by the car fulls and truck fulls and leaving it trashed. This place was amazing. But you know how people get that cant respect anything of their own. Why would they respect something where they are not supervised. Like picking up after themselves

APPROACH AT YOUR OWN RISK!One of the pacific northwests best kept secrets and for good reason. On several accounts I have been accosted by groundskeepers employed by Green Diamond Resource Company and I will explain why. This bridge is incredibly dangerous and with the aforementioned companys modifications, it is even moreso. In order to make your way to the center of the bridge you will have to balance on an I-beam for about 60 feet while walking ~70 feet in the air. If you fall you will most certainly break a large amount of bones or die. I cannot encourage people to visit this bridge anymore. Please enjoy the view from a distance.

This is one of the Olympic peninsulas best kept secrets! A truly incredible experience to walk across this bridge which is circa 400 feet high and has no guard rails....Along with visible gaps between the wooden planks. NOT for the faint of heart! It can be accessed by a trail off of the NF-23 logging road which branches off the W Skokomish valley road(which is a turnoff of Highway 101 south of Hoodsport and north of Shelton). The trail is not visible marked and the timber company that owns the land blazed trees and dug trenches to discourage the intrepid but people still go. Look for a bunch of cut down trees and a very deep ditch by the side of a dirt road along with a No trespassing spray painted on the roadside. One thing to keep in mind is that it technically IS on private property and the county coppers do monitor people going there. Best to do it in a group and preferably when there are other parties there(if you see cars parked by the spot I described thats where it is). Thats your best bet for not getting caught!
