Really enjoyed this park, its a short distance from NY with picnic tables & grills available for grilling. Swimming area is reduced bc of COVID restrictions but plenty of space to hangout & chill. Hiking trails are short but still worth the walk.
Went here today, we went for the trail and waterfall. The beaches are closed due to COVID19. Trail was very nice, steep sometimes. It is summer so the river was quiet. its a great adventure to do with kids above 6. You cross the river bed and then you have to walk up to the waterfall which is very nice. There is a deep diving pit, you can jump in it from 15 feet high. Very nice area and ice cold water. Go here during the week, the area at the waterfall is not so big so can imagine you do not want to be here with big crowds, we were here on a Monday afternoon in summer with nice weather. Maybe 10 people there. It is a 30 min hike to the fall.
Good except for the same person two trips in a row stearing at me, I almost agreed with the thoughts of not returning.
Its quite and out of the way. And during the week you can find it almost empty. Definitely a hidden gem!!
Nice park, we didn’t went on the trail. But just walked near the river. There weren’t many people when we visited. There are many picnic table near the river. We may visit again in summer for a picnic. We liked the park. There s a boy with fish fountain near by, which s from 19th century and has been preserved.
Moderate trail, there is a few hood points of view. You will like this place
First time there. Beautiful and peaceful is how I would describe this place.
It is a beautiful place. The view is amazing and it is very peaceful!!! The road is under construction.
Nice park, lots of grills but due to Covid-19, not allowed. The area is well kept and staff is friendly. For a quick, one day getaway with the family, its very good. Hopefully I can go back and take a dip
Because most people that go there are inconsiderate. Especially on 4th of July. They walk the rd like they own the place and come from New York. Im sure ny has parks?
Awesome! Lots of trails, some nice views, streams and small waterfall (that I saw)
It is, at present, closed for swimming, but a beautiful place on the river with tons of room to walk about. Didnt get to visit the waterfall because it wasnt a planned trip, but we are planning to go back and get a view of it sometime soon!
Its a nice place for doing a picnic but swimming right now is off limits. The waterfall looked nice...smaller than what I thought.
We were disappointed of what we saw when the arrow directing to the falls ended in this brook and we didn’t see the waterfall. The directions need to be clearer. We might go back one day to try to find it.
Very relaxing on a summer afternoon with family or alone .- Grills available- No tables
Hike was Great..got the heart pumping. The downfall was all the trash everywhere near the waterfall. Disappointed people cant respect the beauty that nature has to offer.
Nice lake to go swimming with the kids! It’s a CT state park, so it’s free for CT residents! My kids love it!
Great place to gather with family and friends.
Nice outdoors place, okay for canoe and fishing.
Great cliff jumping into the water fall from 6-20
The park is quiet during the off season, which is when I go to chill with my camera.
Great place to take a dip and cool off on a hot day. It gets pretty crowded on weekends. Best bet is to go during the week .
Clean and close. Nice waterfall
Very quiet during the week. No crowds to worry about,
It was nice. But to much sea weeds
Been coming here for 20yrs+ and still amazing breath taking scenery and waferfalls
Trails are a bit weird but watering hole is great!
Really nice beach and picnicking place
Beautiful place. Not an easy hiking trail but its absolutely worth it.
Tiny waterfall. Not exciting. Nice trails for hiking!
Its nice for what it is. Fun hiking trials, area to play volleyball, grills opened to be used and an area to set your boat into the water.
Beautiful and worth the visit even though some activities were limited.
The CT DEEP map is obsolete (if youre using it) as the trail has changed due to downed trees. New markings are perfect though and you cant get lost!
North_of_town locale on state route 110(Leavenworth road), two miles from downtown Shelton and directly across the housatonic River from Derby. This River separates fairfield County from new haven County in this area of the state know as the lower Naugatuck River valley area.
Ideal place for families during weekend when weather is nice!
Perfection/ peaceful / clean /fun
I didnt like this place any more, to many restrictions, all you can do is seating down and watch the river, no more fun any more
I have been coming here for over 50 years. Great trails, good beach and fun lake for water skiing and fishing.
Nice with a little water falling off the main cascade. Im guessing yesterdays rain has trickled its way towards the river. The stream was beginning to wake up with several smaller cascades which made for nice photo ops.Perfect weather no one there to get in the way with overcast bright but bright skies.
As of 07.25.2020 no swimming is allowed and they heavily watch you so theres no point in going
Only did a little of the park. Waterfall was nice, unfortunately there was a good but of trash around it.
Nice river front park. Hike was good, but falls were a little disappointing. Definitely do the scenic overlook
A good challenging trail
I love it is was nice and beautiful
It is a nice place where you can go for a picnic and walk around.
The only thing bad about this placed is that the people that has boats they drive like maniacs and they no respect the people that are fishing.
The sand on the beach was blowing really hard and covered our blankets. We got in trouble for throwing a football but other kids kicking a soccer ball and splashing others was okay. Lame. The day was beautiful and it was nice to be relaxed but the swim area was not deep enough or big enough. All that river and there was like 10x20 to wade in up to 3o inches of water.
Great place to bring the kids. Well maintained park, and nice, clean beach. Large, clean restrooms, and rangers on duty. Fun and safe.
Very nice place
Great place for families. The park is well keep and lake is really nice
We came here on some state holiday (July4th?) having driven an hour to get there we arrived only to find the they had signs posted out front that said Beach closed, No parking!. After a lot of driving around and realizing we couldnt figure out what to do we decided to drive down to inquire about finding the hiking trails since thats what we actually came for anyway. We drove alllllllll the way down to the parking area and the guard at the parking post told us they had reopened the beach and that we could park. I said your site said nothing about being closed in the first place and your closed sign is still up and stationed at the entrance. I know it! he tells us. Anyway, we ask about hiking he directs us to go this way, cant miss it! After a lot of confusion we park (possibly illegally) and trek to the trails. We come out to this beautiful waterfall where 200 people are yelling, screaming, jumping in despite signs everywhere not to. It was a nightmare over there. Not one park ranger ANYWHERE. We spin around and left .
I just use it to drop in for kayaking, but the park overall looks pretty nice and expansive. Tons of parking, see people fishing, chilling on a beach, and there is also a large pavilion area on the river/lake.
Nice place to picnic n be on a little shady beach. Cool little swim area. Fishing.
Have always loved this park. On winter nights I like to go out there because you can get a great view of the stars. During the seasonal months its an awesome place for a lunch/hike or a gathering with friends to have a little BBQ.
Great place to watch regattas. Just wish you could see the finish line from the viewing areas
Beach closed. Whats the point?
Excellent trails. Challenging on way down. Dont miss the falls and view of Housatonic River
Great place to bring your kids for a break from the summer heat. Tends to get a bit crowded so come early.
Great place to do a easy hike up to the picturesque falls. Loved it will return over and over
Beautiful, clean river!
Nice park! I love the waterfall and its great for cookouts!
The park looks fine but you cant have kids go in the water with life saving jacket and music is only for your ears. Also tents or anything similar is not permitted.
Beautiful space, nice view with the lake and all. Really nice place to relax and have picnics
Very Beautiful Place. Enjoy
Id give it 5 stars but youre mot allowed to swim at the waterfall anymore unless youre not from shelton
Very calm and peaceful even with lots of families. Soft sand and nice views. Free for connecticut plates
Now if the forest was bigger, that would be a five star park. Still youll get your heart pumping from the steep slopes. The overlook is best when the leaves have fallen.
Its a nice place to Relax
Beautiful piece of history.
I love it
Simple little park. A great blue-blazed trail runs past it.
Very nice park and well maintained (as best as can be done with the limited budget the CT State Parks get). The staff works very hard to make this an attractive park to visit. Can be VERY busy on hot summer days, especially weekends and the visitors trash the place. Peaceful in the off-season.
It was great l loved it l would go back there again
Not a bad place at all. Just needs more attention .
A beautiful park along side of the river with picnic tables we enjoyed a nice quite picnic with very little noise
Nice park with a child friendly beach . The water gets warm quick during the summer but not very clean (mid July ). Gets a little crowded on the beach but there are plenty picnic tables around. Parking no problem. CT residents can visit for free.
I love the to come swimming here there is a well tart and then there is a lake but you have to walk down a railroad track to find out where to jump inwhen I was younger and high school there used to be a rope swing but I guess they cut down the tree that held the rope swingit was really sad to see that because those are some of the best times of my life in high schoolNow Im 37 but I went there two years ago to go swimmingStill fun to swim but I really do miss that rope swing
Fabulous place to go hike. The trail we took was a moderate trail the scenery was breath taking.
Nice trails trash left on the beach which is typical but overall not a bad spot very small swimming area
Walked up to the well
Nice place, they just need more tables and grill spots.
Natural water fall is phanaminal to visit on your hike, but you may be disappointed if we are having a dry season, but you will really appreciate the ambiance of the park itself
Live here all my life. I love this place
Signs to indicate the path are very clear. And the place is beautiful
It is beautiful. Good place for picnics. Was there recently viewing the regatta. View of water ids beautiful. From what i could see, there is a huge grassy area for activities like bringing family there to play soccer etc. Too far from my city but if youre in the area check it out!
