What an incredible sight to see! This cemetery is very impressive. It reminded me of Arlington and it was so beautiful to walk around and read about the people who gave their life to serve our country. This is a beautiful place for any American to feel proud and honored to be surrounded by such an amazing sight. I highly recommend stopping by this location!
Such a beautiful site to see all of the soldiers remembered. You can now search online for the sites of your loved ones so you can search on your smart phone. Came in handy to not have to search there. Though they do have a kiosk that you can use to look up at the entrance. People are always helpful.
Very nice cemetary. They take great care in honoring our loved ones.
The Santa Fe National Cemetery is a sacred, hallowed, and beautiful place. My father who served during WWII and my brother who served during the Vietnam War are both buried there. It is the most peaceful and beautiful place in Santa Fe because of what it represents...a final resting place for the men and women who have served in the US military. The staff, as well as the volunteers, are so kind and compassionate. It is an honor and a comfort to have my loved ones laid to rest in this tranquil place that I love to return to year after year. May God bless them, keep them, and may God bless America.
I brought my friend Jim to Santa Fe from Kentucky to retire 7 years ago. He chose the area for its culture, natural beauty and pristine climate. He finally passed away and this is his chosen final resting place. It has beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and natural Southwest landscape. Grounds are immaculate and monuments add to the memorial atmosphere. Rest in peace Jim.
As I understand it, this cemetery began with the casualties from the Civil War Battle of Glorieta Pass, but the older section predates this and is the final resting place of individuals such as Charles Bent who was NMs first (territorial) Governor killed in Taos (which is an interesting/tragic story related to relations of all of NMs major groups in the early days). As it is a National Ceremony, it is now filled with likely all sort of stories about the individuals making the ultimate sacrifice in service of their county, up to the present. The individuals who work there seem very cognizant and protective of those who are in a sense in their care for perpetuity. No one I know or am related to is buried there, that I know of, only a Medal of Honor recipient from my hometown. It does seem like a nice final resting spot, and like the individuals there are in good company.
They never have enough vases. The upper level isnt maintained as well as the lower level. Grass is yellow and almost dead in some areas. They throw flowers and memorials after being there a short while.
The place is usually quiet and clean. They have a lot of issues keeping the sod alive in some parts of the cemetery. I am sure that most of that is due to climate and local watering restrictions. It could do with a little more consistent care though. Was a bit saddened by the state of some of the graves here.
Clean, quiet, and a beautiful resting place for the departed. I didnt really care about veteran cemeteries until my Uncle passed away. When I saw the amount of veterans who have been laid to rest here, I grew an understanding on how important it is to keep the cemetary clean and alive to show respect for those who fought so hard to not only protect the freedom of the world, but to secure the joyful and comfortable life we can take for granted. The Santa Fe National Cemetery pays respect to the veterans through its clean, lush green grass and upkeep.I say thank you to all of the friendly staff to make me know that my Uncle is in caring hands.
We recently laid my grandmother to rest here next to my grandfather. While there I was actually told to leave the cemetery because I had my ESA Chihuahua in my jacket. He wasnt peeing or pooping or running loose, but the rude employee told me they didnt allow dogs. Well I also have a service dog that I had to leave at home because my dad is petrified of big dogs. On the website, it doesnt state no dogs allowed, there are signs for no weapons. My mother will never forget that I was not in line to say my final farewell to my grandma because this employee told me I had to leave so I went to where our cars were to wait for my family. The sad things is, is my grandma loved chihuahuas so when the family saw I had my Buster with me, they all laughed and said grandma would love that he was there. How dare your employee take it upon himself to tell me to leave during a very stressful time with my family. Had it been anyone elses funeral like an aunt or uncle or cousin I would have made a scene he would have regretted. But out of respect for my mother I didnt. VERY DISAPPOINTED.
Impossible to access for Veterans
Both of my parents are buried there
Because of this place, both my parents can rest in piece together with a beautiful view of the mountains. #familyforever
I have done a lot of military funerals for the army honor guard, I was honored to be part of a special detail. To all the Families who I preformed funeral honors for, It was an Honor to preform for you and the service member.
Beautiful resting place. The people who work here are very compassionate and helpful.
