This place is amazing. There is so much to see and do! I would plan on giving yourself several hours to see it all. This place is steeped in history and is a super fun way to experience said history. My four kids love coming here and we make sure to at least once every year. The festivals are especially fun.

This was amazing! Must do in Santa Fe! Better than everything else we did while visiting. You never know what to expect with a free attraction, but this was incredible. Got there at 10 and poked around the gift shop until free tour at 1030.Talked about the history of the Santa Fe trail, and how life was for an 18th and 19th century resident. Learned a lot about construction, trade, defense, and travel across a variety of years.Had artifacts and setup to show the evolution of technology and methods, and demonstrations of weaving and other pioneer tasks. After tour, we walked the grounds and saw a couple of mills, blacksmith shop, and a small village. They said they were short staffed the day we were there, but it didnt show. They had a lavender festival the previous day, and were preparing for a wine festival the next week...Great space for events for sure They even filmed some scenes from Young Guns there too, so watch it before the tour and you may be able to pick out a few familiar locations! If we ever make our way back to Santa Fe, I would probably go back!

Outstanding experience! I’ve lived in Albuquerque for 22 years and never knew this place existed, despite it being right up my alley. We went for a Halloween event, and it was wonderful (except for when they started blasting modern music amongst the lanterns and campfires—it really ruined the ambiance). We loved our experience so much that we can’t wait until it opens again to the general public!

Wonderful Experience. What made the experience great was probably the tour which we were lucky to be just in time for. This living museum is an important and interesting part of Santa Fe history. Our children have always loved visiting here. We go several times each summer. We are so very disappointed that they dont have the Civil War days anymore. That was our favorite and we looked forward to May every year. There are a lot of other events throughout the year though. I love the knowledge that the volunteers share with guests. It never gets old.

Review №61

This museum is excellent. I visited by myself today and, fortunately for me, it was not very busy and I hardly ran into other visitors. The number of volunteer docents they had present seemed to match that expectation, but for a Wednesday it was just right. I had a good connection with every docent I spoke with (I interacted with seven of them) and was able to learn a lot about the property itself and the history of the state. I could have run out the whole day speaking with each one and it was hard not to, which is what this five star rating is truly for. The people were excellent. The one thing which I’ll concede to the 1 star comment below is that there was little “living” going on, much of what I learned was through verbal interpretation. But otherwise, that other comment sucks! The people running this and taking care of it deserve your patronage just for keeping the historic buildings open on well-kept beautiful land. I enjoyed being in the space for its own sake. Anyway— The buildings are well-equipped with antique items that are accurate for the intended period and it did feel lived in. I was really glad to go and will go back again, especially during the upcoming harvest festival when it’s really supposed to pop off. Thanks to everyone there.

Great historical property. On weekends there are usually preformers and historical actors demonstrating how things were. Around noon the bread is usually being served fresh at the horno. During the year there are many festivals that are put on. The Children Festival and the Fiber Arts Festival is two of my familys favorites. There are lots of activities and hands on learning. The kids can learn to make tortillas from scratch and how to cook them. My daughter was so proud that she could make food like grandma.

VERY DISAPPOINTING VISIT! The pictures on the website imply that there would be many individuals dressed and working at the ranch in costumes that date back to the 1700s and 1800s. As an example, we had expected to see individuals baking bread and making tortillas. This was not the case during our Friday visit...there was no one there. We were told that we should have come on Thursday if we wanted to experience that. Their website DOES NOT MENTION this whatsoever! The visit to this ranch was to be the centerpiece of my Minnesota familys vacation....our day was ruined! This place needs to either close down or get more professionals running the operation.
