Great hike! Its moderatorately difficult. The best part was coming across the creek in different parts of the trail. At the upper part of the trail there are boulders along the creek and those were fun to climb over.

A great park and hiking area with some amazing trails up the canyon which follows a creek in the canyon. Even in early September there was plenty of water flowing and a few small waterfalls and sights to see. The scenery is awesome and I highly recommend this park and trail if in or near Santa Barbara and want to go hiking. The trail isnt to difficult but will get more challenging at the end of the canyon as the trail ascends the mountains. Highly recommend.

Rattlesnake Canyon stretches from Skofield park into the Santa Ynez mountains. Its name comes from its serpentine shape and curves, not rattlesnake occupation. The native Chumash people helped dig the channel and build the flumes. In 1808, to build a more permanent structure, dams were built by Mexican artisans on Mission Creek and in Rattlesnake Canyon. Only remnants of the dam still exist, and the reservoir has been filled with sediment from the creek.

Great trail close to Santa Barbara with lots of variety: open space, canyon, creek, pines, along with views of the Pacific and the city.

My favorite starting point to hike. 2.3miles(one way) from trailhead to Gibraltar road and one EXCELLENT view! Starts following a stream in the canyon and rises out into the mtns. Terrain is single track, varied surface with fairly constant gradient. Motsly shade. Can use connecting trails to get to Tunnel trail and East Camino Cielo road (6miles one way). Large Cats are in this area (have seen a few over the years - no issues), take proper precautions.

Moderate hike, but beautiful with the stream flowing steadily thanks to all of the rain this year.

This place is fabulous! It seems like walking amongst the Alps, the mist, the stream, the water, just mesmerizing. Mother Nature is grand! We MUST preotect and conserve places like this.

Driving up Mountain Drive or Gibraltar Road on a day when you can see the islands is something everyone should do at least once. Being able to see the ocean on the other side of Santa Cruz is really something! And being able to see the sun reflecting off of the ocean near Santa Rosa is likewise beautiful.

Definitely some of the best hiking in the area. You can take the trails up and turn around whenever is convenient (there are great views along the way that make it easy to hit a good turn around spot) or you can keep following them up until they connect with the Inspiration Point or Tunnel trails. Easy parking and a broad array of difficulty make it a great place to hike for just about anyone.

Its a challenging hike, with beautiful views of the Pacific, Channel Islands, and the Central Coast if you get high enough. Please be sure to bring water, and watch your footing. The trails have lots of big rocks, and twisting an ankle is a realistic problem to look out for. Also, there are snakes during the warm season, and poison oak. Just be careful.Wear shoes with good tread, please!

Parked on the side of the road after passing the sign for the park. Hiked for an hour or so with two boys checking out lizards and exploring. Not too steep (we didnt go very far), but my 5 year old did fall on his butt once going down an incline. Its pretty cool and under the tunnel a lot of people leave handprints and messages. Its not exactly what youd expect in a park. No playground, water fountain, or bathroom. Just trails.

Local favorite for hiking close to Santa Barbara. Mostly shady trail up to the meadow or even if you chose to continue up to Gibraltar Road. The shade makes it great for warm summer days.
