Port San Luis use to be the place to go. Not so much now. There are many new rules which are not posted except at the site. No dogs allowed on DOG BEACH any more. No place for our traveling companions, dogs, to relieve themselves. Every dirt patch now has a sign stating Sensitive Area Stay Out. There are still dogs on Dog Beach. There is still a dog poop bag station setup next to the sensitive area signs. The camp host said, in email, she doesnt agree with the no dogs on beach rule. I pointed out 7 dogs on the beach to her, she said she notified harbor patrol. Guess who never showed up to enforce this rule. There was a camper stuck, yelling for help, trying to climb a 75ft cliff going from Dog Beach to the cliff camping sites. Unable physically to help I called the harbor patrol office, spoke to Chris. It took Chris 25 minutes before responding to help. Other campers ended up helping her. Cars are parked in clearly marked No Parking areas yet harbor patrol never bothered to look into this, even after driving past these vehicles several times. To all of us campers it looks like they only enforce rules when they want to. There is a terrible speeding problem in front of the waterfront campsites. The roadway is posted 15mph limit but noone enforces it. There are many many issues that need to be addressed at this site.
Great place easy to access plenty of parking and dogs are welcome.
Visited Merseas for dinner. They do a great job and the food is always very good.
What a great place to come and let your dog run free! It should be understood that dogs are dogs and it is the responsibility of the owner to make judgment calls on the hostility of thier animal. Also, its a good thing the tide comes in twice a day to wash away all the dog urine and fecies. And wouldnt it be better to just let the dog pooh biodegrade naturally instead of wrapping it in a plastic bag only to take an extra 150 years because half of the people dont bother to take the bag of pooh with them after doing their part of bagging it up!
Very nice times to be had here. Warning the dogs can run up the rocks to he roadside where the listed speed is 40 and its a very narrow two lanes with lots of parked cars. There is some serious danger for the dogs in that regard, my dog was all most hit and killed in that situation. I ripped open my foot running vertical up jagged rocks.Besides that its pretty amazing beach spot for off the collar dogs and beach great for kids
I am so glad we stopped here. I love that it wasnt crowded and dog friendly. Easy to get to the beach from the road. Noticed the RV campsites and the possibility of an overnight stay.
Great place to catch fish and a great place to relax that is mostly dog free. Some people bring their dogs onto fisherman’s beach which they are not supposed to and there are signs posted in many places stating they can’t bring dogs and they do it anyway. I don’t like dogs on fisherman’s beach because i don’t want a dog to get hurt with a fisherman’s or fisherwoman’s fishing gear and have the dog owner try and say they are liable for their dogs injury’s when they are themselves liable for it and made the mistake of coming onto a dog restricted beach.
This place is a gem tucked between Avila and Port San Luis. Bonfires at night, dog friendly, family hot spot. Just keep small children supervised because the dogs run free and happy. Most dog owners are responsible and pick up after their dogs. We bring plastic bowls and a gallon of water for the dogs so they dont try to drink ocean water when thirsty. Lovely stretch of beach for a stroll. We like to go a couple hours before dusk.
What a great place to sit down and eat
The Holy Trail if dog friendly AND off leash.
Nice place to jus hang out. Not much kids around.
Warm sunny
Beautiful and clean
A great escape, beautiful place to visit..
Small with a lot of dead birds. Cool rocks though.
Lots of parking, dog friendly and full of marine life. We shot videos of the pelicans diving for food and seals relaxing and bathing in the sunshine. The RV park was booked solid so we had to take a spot back at Pismo but we came to this beach everyday with our three legged Labrador to swim and explore. Good restaurant on the pier with fabulous views of the area.
Great little beach to start out kayaking or stand up paddle boarding!
Busy dog beach but still family friendly. There are fire pit rings on one end and a calm area for stand up paddle board.
Great for kids, dogs, etc. It is one of the few beaches that you can wade in.....but watch for hypothermia. The water in this area of CA, is super-cold and most will use wetsuits. Due to prior extensive oil pollution in this beach, I would also research that as well. They had to replace the top few feet of soil in town due to this. So even if it looks nice, it may not be healthy...but what beach is?Anyway, the views here are nice & it is pleasant to walk barefoot on the shore. Food & hotels are nearby & the 101 is just a few miles away.
Fabulous place to stay with the RV and friendly warden.
Nice beach to let your dogs run free safely. Dog owners could be a little more attentive to pick up after your dog policies.
The website says dog friendly, but when we got there, the sign says No Dogs.
Best local beach for families.
Windy, crowded. Not my favorite
Beautiful winter day in Avila. Watched dogs play in the surf.
