Lovely, slow sloping figure-8-shaped trail that is easy on the knees to run and takes almost no effort to hike. My favorite one around here.In the mornings it is typically windless (unless winds are offshore) and sometimes misty, although not as foggy as trails closer to the coast. Bird songs get loud, grasses and spiderwebs take their morning showers in dew droplets and sparkle like twinkle lights when the rising sun hits them just right.Afternoon hike can get hot as the oak trees are sparse and most of the hike is out in the open. However, the open space provides much coveted coastal breeze that make this hike still enjoyable even in midday heat. Real bonus here is the shady creek down at the very bottom where my dog likes to take a drink. In the evenings, the auburn light of the setting sun penetrates the heavy air and the dry fields glow. Lovely trail either way!
It was a great workout, I very much enjoyed sitting on the bench at the top of hill as I felt a cool breeze hit my face. Make sure to wear a tank top and shorts so you can get great tan.
Great spot near town to go for a short ride or walk. Easy trails with plenty of nice views
Very peaceful hiking trail. Theres a 2 mile short loop if youre looking for a quick walk or run
The wind direction is optimal but when, climbed hi their are breathtakingly look far landscape.
I really enjoy the Johnson open space - good hike. Not handicap accessible, and mostly in the sun, but worth your time if you have 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
Fantastic to have one directional trails to keep everyone safe
Really nice moderate hike.
Great 2.3 mile loop hike
Beautiful, very open and well-maintained trail. A pretty easy and lovely hike. Passed by a quaint creek as well. Truly a very nice hike!
Great for mountain biking with kids
This trail is a wonderful beginner trail or hike with kids! I love that it has shade trees intermittently dispersed throughout. There is a lovely creek (most of the year) toward the back of the trail that is a perfect resting spot for halfway through the hike! I took my 8yr old on this hike the other day and we had a wonderful time enjoying nature! Highly recommend :)
Peaceful & spacious & relaxing
I love how even tho this closes at 630 l, the municipal open space is open 24 hours. Might enjoy spending a night there :)
I love this space to walk and relax with a friend.
Great looking trail, enough sun and shade to make it pleasant. Definitely coming back again.
Peaceful rolling hills!
Love this trail...some elevation and options to extend your hike as it connects to other trail systems.
Great trail to get that walk in. Not too steep, a bit crowded sometimes, but something for most casual walkers, runners and cyclists.
This is a tricky trail if you dont pay attention where you going. If you are not careful you can end up in one of the trails that cross and may end up walking more that the expected. The trail itself is beautiful, with creeks and some shade alone the way....even though is categorized as moderate, I think it is easy ( I am not regularly hiking)
Wonderful set of trails with plenty of opportunity for short or long hikes or trail runs :)
Good beginner MTN bike trails. Fun trail running, attaches to Irish Hills
An amazing place to get some exercise and clear your mind. I always love going out there.
Great hike. Beautiful and a good workout
Always in good condition, even when crowded one feels out in nature alone. Easy but not boring. Fun to run.
If the rain ever stops and they ever open these trails again, Ill be out there every day. Nice variable terrain, a variety of trails that you can choose to shorten it extends your walk. Dog friendly.
Beautiful trail for beginners. Take time to enjoy the views. Breathe in fresh air
Only crossed ONE tarantula!!
Beautiful meandering trails with great views. Easy/beginner for both hiking and mountain biking.
Great views. Good for hiking and great for mountain biking. Clean and friendly people all around
Great hiking loop
Great place to hike, bike, or trail run. Beautiful views, easy access and well groomed trails.
The trail we took was easy. Wow was there a lot of ticks on the trail. We were pulling ticks off our dog for 3 days. We got 8 off of her and i found on on me on the trail.
Wonderful little hike, under 2.5 miles, under an hour. Hilly enough but not too challenging. Weve created some fun memories on this trail ober the years.
Easy trail, rewarding view, not too steep
Its a fun, short hill climb on some narrow trails. It takes me 15 minutes on my bike from start to finish.
Great place to trail run or go for a casual walk with family
Trigger warning! Its not a safe space its a open space. So if you are easily offended by nature and how cruel it can be. You might want to stay inside and off the internet.
Love hiking here
Great trails to run hike dog friendly
Such a great family hike. A few different options as far as trails. Always friendly people, dogs, etc on the trail.
Great local trails for hiking or mountain biking. Connection trail to trails at Irish Hills
Beautiful trails great for families a runners. Watch out for poison oak plants as you explore the area. Pristine views and many bridges to cross. It may get windy but easy trail over all.
A great place for a walk.
Map at the trailhead is no longer correct. There is no upper loop. Lots of dogs, please bring poop bags! Love the wandering trails, bridges and historical information along the way.
Great place to ride your mountain bike. Amazing views, not too challenging but a good work out or way to relax.
The trails are pretty good for running, but need some work in several spots due to erosion. LOTS of dog poop, several dogs off lead, and a few bikers who think people should jump out of their way when they hear a bell. All the rules are in place, but need enforcement.
Love this trail.. used to be popular spot for biking, but since so my hikers & family, not so much. Plus the connection to Irish hills trail. This is a great trail for running if youre looking to build leg strength & cardio. Trail loops around & has an add-on loop to make longer. Approx 2-4 miles
Excellent place for hiking! Great trails and beautiful scenery. Dogs are allowed on trails. You can hike from here to Irish Hills behind Costco/Home Depot. The trails are also open to mountain bikers.
Nice trail connects to Irish hills trail of you want a longer hike/run. Gets crowded after 4 on weekdays. Crowded on weekends.
Beautiful place for walk or ride a bike, good view as well.
All the hiking areas are so different and so enjoyable.
Grassy hills with oak trees. Single lane dirt trails shared with hikers, mountain bikers, & dogs. Pretty crowded for an afternoon stroll.
Great place to hit a trail!
Good walk. Hot, bring water
Very pleasant trails for walking, biking, or running. Hilly landscape, nothing too steep so a great place for a family hike with the kids. Supposedly there are cattle around but Ive never seen them. Popular spot on the weekends.
Is a nice place for hiking, and nice view.
This is one of my favorite open use areas, such great trails over beautiful landscape. Its not overly crowded, but not completely devoid of people like some other open use areas in this county. I like knowing that if something bad were to happen that someone is likely to find me before the buzzards start circling. These section of trails does connect to the Irish Hills but make sure you have plenty of time, water, map/gps for such an adventure.
Great hike for everyone including families
Well maintained trail that is great for a run, mountain bike ride, or walk with your family and a furry friend. Its got a good variance of slight hills and connects to the Irish Hills trail network.
Great spot to teach kids how to ride bikes off-road. 3.5 mile loop with varied terrain.
One of my favorite running locations
Great place to go biking, hiking, or running and bring your dogs. Several well maintained trails that snake in and out of oaks. Its great that it connects to the Irish Hills open space to really give you a massive trail system to explore. People are always friendly here and the CCCMB bells are well stocked.
Can be crowded on the weekends, but that is a relative term in SLO. The trails arent too steep and are easy to navigate. A good place for early mountain biking experience, just be polite and give hikers the right-of-way. Nice connection from Irish Hills if youre up for the climb.
Really nice trail. Easy hike thats about 3.5 miles. I normally finish it in about an hour and a half. The trail had lots of options to extend the hike significantly if you want. I would definitely recommend it.
It is an awesome hike to do with the family!!
Super fun
Plentiful free parking. Gently sloping bicycle/hiking trails
Great area for hiking or mountain biking close to town. Lots of different trails to take. Well maintained.
Awesome little trail to bike or hike
Great time to go is in the morning before it gets too hot. Overall a very well maintained and nice trail. You even get to walk with the cows!
Quick moderate hike.
I love anywhere if Im with my Baby and / or babies :)
Well maintained and interesting trails, little shade.
Beautiful quiet and extremely green right now because of all the rain !! Enjoy it while it lasts !!!
Its open space...lol
Good time.clean no trash all over the place
Loved this trail its a great hike a little challenging but doable
Not much flora, but lots of little critters, and very peaceful. Good, easy hike.
