From Hilltop Park the trail to the summit is about 2 miles one way. Not too strenuous a few steeper parts that will make you breathe. Well maintained besides a few rocky patches but thats where the fun is. Pretty exposed trail, little to no shade you will be in the sun the whole way so bring water and sunblock.
Beautiful in the mornings! Great hike. Some of the trails which appears on google maps are closed due to maintenance.
Hiked up here. Wait til it gets colder out. Hike wasnt bad besides heat and a whole lot of snakes.
I love the varied terrain for all levels. If you arent feeling like a hero, the service road is a short and easy way to the top. Wonderful views of Northern San Diego, and you cant beat the sea breeze up top. Bring plenty of water.
Its a nice short hike to the Black Mountain top. The view is pretty cool. You can see the Pacific while hiking and from the top. And from the top you can see south until at least downtown.
I always enjoy getting out from the hustle and bustle of commuting, work and life to walk, hike, trail run or mountain bike these trails. Today I parked at the miners loop trail, did the lilac valley (gentle slopes), to steep scramble up to the glider point with great West and north looking views, downhill to the miners loop and lunch and relaxing time at the trail for all people.
If you like wide open spaces biking with gorgeous views of rolling hills and also views of the houses down below and of mansion-like houses with gated lots that normal people like you and I could only dream to own, than youll love this area!
One of the best locations in North San Diego County for a technical mountain bike ride. The San Diego Mountain Bike Association has volunteered many man hours over the last few years to make amazing trails that flow really well while still retaining great natural features like rock gardens and chaparral canopies that the trail twists and turns through. Great views for days from the top of black mountain as well as Manzanita Loop, Little Black Mountain, and Road Runner Loop. Black Widow flow trail is scheduled to be installed in the very near future, so visit the San Diego Mountain Biking Association and see if you can help offer your time volunteering to build more amazing trails for future generations to enjoy!
This place was a hell of a hike. Dont let it fool you. Maybe its just my cardio lacking fat self. I went when the sun was about to drop. Im not sure if there is another place to park; but Google led me through the back way of a neighborhood and I entered through a closed gate. Definitely a sight to see though, at least once. Its a real nice view overlooking North County. However, careful when you come back down, when its dark. Theres no lights on the pathway. Ive seen bikers going up and down the trail with headband lights. I should have been more prepared.
Awesome grass lawn area very reserve good place to meet up with family n friends.
Awesome park has a lot to offer outdoor enthusiasts and even non enthusiasts. San Diego has The best parks so even you cant get to this one you wont go wrong at the others.
Explored the Miners Ridge loop today on north side. Lots of rubble and still very wet from recent storm. Will return in drier weather and do a longer hike. Great views!
Good for walking has uphill down hill so good
Amazing!!
Fun and challenging trail. Make your way to the very top, its worth it!
Beautiful place with many great trails to get lost in.
A nice gentle hike. But a lot of rocks. A bench at the top.
Not a crowded trail and I love that it’s close to work!
Large open space as far as open spaces go. Heard coyotes and saw bobcats, but they paid me no mind. Heres a pic from the start of the trail. Beautiful views.
Long trail, fine view from the sumit
Beautiful walk in Rancho Bernardo. Havent seen any official signs for trails but this is a very low traffic park that walking distance from the neighborhood.
Lots And lots of hiking trails, beautiful scenery
I like to to bring my kids when gliders are taking off at the peak here.
Pretty good mountain bike trails. Very rocky, better have tall and wide tires.
Its a good hike
Good hiking spot! Bring some water.
Took these pictures up the hill from the park this evening 01/-03-2019. Beautiful views from the park and further up the hill.
Great place to hike or mountain bike. 360 degree views, picnic areas and sports grounds for soccer and baseball. Not a lot of shade so bring an EZ-UP. Like all of our local parks its busy and difficult to find parking on a weekend.
So we parked at Miners Ridge Trail head... But the trail is currently closed. So we hiked west along an existing trail (that does not appear on Google) which connected us to the Glider Port Trail. The first section is narrow and switchbacks along the fingers of the mountain... Rocky in some points but fairly flat. Glider Point on the other hand is Rocky and steep... But view are pretty amazing!!
Great area for a quick hike. Really nice views if you hike all the way to the top.
What a great walk. The service road was easyvto walk on and the incline was just right for us.
Nice and open, really good view. Stars are very visible at night and best during summer. If you are afraid of bugs like me you probably dont want to go at night. Coacroaches everywhere on cement and grass.
Easy hike. Only 1180 elev difference from parking lot. Trail had nice detours. FYI there are bicyclists on the trail.
Ride my mountain bike.Good place for a quick ride.Nice trail system.
Good for dogs
Great walking trail.
Beautiful mountain view at sunset
This area is absolutely great for hiking, trail running, MTN biking and even paragliding. At the base there is a large park with playgrounds for children., Picnic tables, bathrooms, community center buildings and lots lawns.
Easy access and a very nice hike.
Nice hike with moderate difficulty. Enjoyable views and multiple paths to lengthen your ascent. Watch out for Rattlers! We spotted a 6 footer out for a morning stroll
Mildly strenuous hike to the top, with great views in all directions. Spring bloom contributed to highlighting the varied flora. If youre observant youre likely to spot snakes, lizards and hares.
Lots of open land . Worth the hike!
Fun with family. Dog friendly. Great view. Bring a picnic basket and blanket on a sunny afternoon. Trail head nearby.
Its absolutely experience to walk on the trails! So many choices as you embark on a journey along a ridge or up the mountain. The people you meet along the way are friendly and usually have dogs tagging along with. Its a calming environment and amazing sight to see. So get up and go out and find a trail youll probably like!
Great open space with fantastic vistas to take in the sights.
Not for the unfit. Pretty steep, very rocky. Beautiful views the higher up you go.
This hike was great I went with my wife and our 15month old. It can become a steady incline in some parts but it usually flattens out for a rest afterwards. Theres plenty of room although watch out for mountain bikers, they are very kind but theres still blind corners.
Place to start hike to Black Mountain trail. Beautiful views up top.
Can you hike this in the evening? Like if I go for the sunset will I be able to leave at night? Or does it get closed off?
Great place to hike or bike. Miles of trails, just look out for rattlesnakes.
Trails are way too rocky. But a good place to take a walk anyway.
Fun biking trails from beginner to advance.
A good hike, and with relatively few people around. Nice views at the top on a clear day. I love taking my dog up and down this mountain!
Lovely
Beautiful
Urban hike and a decent work out
It is rugged and pushes back against urbanization.
Great oasis of open space surrounded by development on all sides. Wonderful trails if you like hills.
Great hike with good parking.
Great little hike that is easy to do. If you happen to head on to one of the less travelled paths, watch your step as there are sometimes snakes around.
Super tough and technical mtn biking. Pretty Rocky but still fun.
Great place to hike with beautiful views
Great 2 mile hike up....you can see the ocean on a clear day
Beautiful
Great quick hike
Country in the city and the sunset view is beautiful
Enough quiet trails and places to explore that its not a constant mob scene like a lot of parks- lots of runnable trails. Though a few have been ravaged by mountain bikes and probably need some time to recover
Great place to explore and it is not busy.
Trails (as listed on alltrails) were a little iffy but overall some great hikes to be had. Views from Black mountain are great.
Our weekly destination for fun, semi-strenuous hiking. Conversational except for the steep bits. But watch out for the plentiful mountain-bikers barreling down the path!Great views from the top, from Cuyamaca to the Coronado Islands, to Santa Catalina. Worth the hike for sure.
Reasonable hike..little shade. Antenna central on top!
Nice and peaceful place not to far from Mira Mar college you can relax and read
One of the last great open parks in San Diego County.
There are some good hiking trails and some good mountain biking trails. Recently started developing even more mountain bike trails.
I loved this place the trails are amazing and easy so beginers this is your spot
Best mountrails to hike on or take a mountain bike on
Went here for a mountain bike ride and it was super fun. When you get to the top of some of these mountains, you can actually see the ocean.
Awesome view of receding fog on Good Friday
A good place to go mountain biking. Or hiking.
It is a very nice place to hike. Great loop trail and nice views.
Hidden gem right in the middle of many small communities
Nice jogging and walking trial with access to 4S ranch community center.
Beautiful walking trail sceneries & suburban cityscape
Love the hike to the top of black mountain. Often listen to audio books during the hike. Try the hike early in the morning, later in the afternoon and evening and on sunny and cloudy days, I guarantee you will be pleasantly surprised.
Great trails, great views. One heck of a climb on the bike just to get there.
Good for quick stops
Fun trails for hiking and mountain biking.
Sort of a few more people than I would have liked, it seems like the nature was closed off to humans which is unfortunate. Otherwise it is a beautiful place with lovely natural energy
