Meh, although this has a large expanse of tide pools, Ive seen better tide pools elsewhere with much more active wildlife. We went on a Sunday when there were several volunteers around to help point out things to visitors. Its still a worthwhile outing if you have young children or have never seen tide pools. Very few sea anemones were open. Standouts while we were there were: a very large keyhole limpet and a sea cucumber. Also watch for crabs in crevices, especially up by the cliffs.
Great area to really see the awe inspiring of mother earth. Its a bit of a hike but the views are spectacular and worth it. We saw a seal pop its head out of the water and the layers in the rocks are clearly visible and unique to the area. Id rate it 5 stars if they extended the time frame you can be down there.
A must experience place for people who love surfing and want a more natural place than the usual surfing beaches like la Jolla shores or Delmar beach. This place is always less crowded and you experience good amount of tides. Not only surfers, swimmers Also enjoy this place a lot as the area adjourned to the point Loma rock end is a natural pool with tide waves not so powerful but good enough to enjoy the thrill.
I love this place great for everyone of all ages especially low tide. The day I was there on Wednesday there were a school bus loaded with kids coming to explore which brought back memories of my days many moons ago. There were nice volunteers whom also went around and showed baby shark eggs and tell you anything you want to know about the tide pool. There were plenty of adults visitors who were happy as a kids seeing the sea creatures as the tides went out. Great for a little hiking around or just sit and listen to the waves and enjoy the views.
Hidden jewel for the the locals. Treasure of life when the tide is right and glory of view, both the ocean and less looked at landscape. Park rangers are super friendly (the most of any park!) and great you with smile even at the closing time. Very clean and family friendly.
Great day trip and very fun . With all the staff around you can have any of your questions answered! Pro tip: bring water proof shoes or anything you are okay getting soaked in and trekking poles - very helpful in getting around out there. Oh and look at the tide times
The Point Loma Tide pools is a beautiful scenic location to visit that is also very close to other tourist friendly locations. The parking is limited and I would recommend bringing shoes you don’t mind getting wet or sandals you can use to walk in the water from one tide pool to the next. Overall this is a great place to visit and enjoy the day with friends and family. Enjoy!
Picturesque local. Although we missed low tide, we had a great time. The views are stunning. Plenty of location for photographs. Parking is a bit impacted. Just be patient. The drive out is even nice. On the way to the tide pools, you pass through Ft Rosecrans National Cemetery. Worth a stop to pay respects to our military.
Great place the scenery was amazing and feeling of the cool ocean air wile looking for see creatures is very surreal great place to learn and reach the young ones about different life will definitely be coming back
Dreamy. Confirming of this Earths organic beauty. Enjoy the collection of moments ~ this area is a gift that continues to give. Indulged in the year pass as a gift to self. Enjoy. Celebrate. In gratitude
Beautiful hike right along the coast. Its fascinating to see how much life is hiding in such a relatively small area. Strong recommendation for closed toed shoes over sandals or flip-flops.
Its pretty cool. Go on a sunny day so all the colours really stand out. Worth your while.
Awesome little hike on the coastline. You get to see the tide pools. It says no surfing but people do it any ways and they are fun to watch.
It feels like you’re walking on another planet here!! Make sure to spend at least an hour here exploring the pools and looking for wildlife, especially tiny hermit crabs. There are volunteers throughout who can help you spot certain animals/plants if you need assistance. The line for parking can get long in the afternoon but I assure you the wait is absolutely worth it!
Beautiful and full of sea life! Easy to social distance.
Amazing tide pools where you can see tons of sea anemones, hermit crabs and if youre lucky, other exotic species. Access is free if you pay for the Carrillo monument. Bring clothes you dont mind getting dirty, as theres a good chance youll slip on the algae growing all over the rocks. I definitely want to come back here with a better camera.
I take most of my guests here, specially on low tides. The tide pools are fascinating! I have seen all sorts of sea life, including sea hare, lobsters and live abalone. Even without the tide pools the hikes are beautiful with lots of wildflowers in spring and an amazing view of San Diego.
I went in the evening around 4 I guess, not much to see in the tide pools, or were the tide pools under water am not sure. Just walked as far as I could, its fun walking on the rocky cliffs jutting out into the ocean, some can be slippery so have to be careful. Although as far as tidepools go, there were none.
Fantastic views of ocean and coastline. Try to go during low tide so you can enjoy and better appreciate the tide pools!
This dog-friendly trail offers gorgeous views of the bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. Check out the Sutro Baths while youre here, near Cliff House.
This is a great place for a hike. Great views everywhere!! Highly recommend.
The classic California experience with miles of gorgeous coastline views. Tide pools only available for combing during low tide, so call ahead to plan the best experience. Knowledgeable and personable park rangers have free interpretive talks. Whale watching overlooks near the lighthouse. Easy to navigate, free parking. Wide trails are handicap accessible. Visitors center too!
Beautiful, serene. Learning opportunities. One of the best places in San Diego
Stunning scenery with a short hike. Lovely place to visit one of the most scenic areas in San Diego.
Great place to see seals and sea lions and pelicans! Great food also!
Do your research before you come here...aka read the Yelp reviews lol. I read the Yelp reviews before I came and they really helped. The address provided takes you directly to the parking lot. Of course the two parking lots are super tiny but once inside the park you can park along side the street.
Such a fun place to go. Make sure you check the tide pool report for the best optimal time. Definitely recommend closed-toed shoes or at least not flip-flops. Good for families. Best to go when the tide is going out not When the tide is coming up.
Beautiful views of the oceans and the surf. Fun to watch the waves crashing on the walls and the beach and rhe surfwrs riding the waves. Heart-stopping vistas!
Beautiful place with lots of history. Bring your walking shoes, you can walk all around the bottom by the water on a trail and a a trail higher for breath taking views. We saw a marine coming and tons of sail boats.
A very nice place to relax. Just beautiful. easy to reach by car. Nearby parking spaces. There are also plenty of hiking trails in the area. Nice Location for photographs
AMAZING tidepools and absolutely beautiful scenery. We took the coastal trail that allows leashed dogs and it was amazing, our dog loved every second. Theres beautiful waves and majestic pelicans soaring above. We have an annual park pass and it gets you in free which was sweet. Will definitely be back!!
Breezy and very walkable. Lovely sites, rock formations, and a nice trail that skirts the coastline. Not so handicap accessible, however.
Beautiful spot. The national park pass works here too. The trails are well maintained and has good signage too. Great place to visit.
This place is gorgeous!!! So well worth the drive from downtown San Diego. BEWARE, if you use ride share service to get there, set up a pick up time. You cannot get a signal down there. Its a long long walk uphill and nearly 2 miles to the exit. We had a good samaritan give us a ride to get a signal.
An oldie but a goodie.. Not to be mistaken with Cabrillo
This was so cool! We went during high tide, but if you time it just right there would be a lot more exploration to do. It was phenomenal none the less.
Enjoy coming here; its so serene. The sounds of the waves crashing against the cliffs is soothing to me. Worth upgrading to an annual pass for $35 if youre a local, otherwise $20 gets you a week long pass here as well as the popular Cabrillo National Monument park area. Recommend bringing comfortable footwear, and be careful as it can be slippery. Dog friendly, but must be kept on a leash.
Dont let some of the reviews scare you, took five children under 10 with one only 18 months and this was ver doable for them. As others mentioned, go during lowtide and youll be blessed with quite the treat. We saw lobsters, anemones, various crabs, and even an octopus! This little hike was one of my familys highlights during our trip to San Diego.
I could spend all day here. Walking the paths and exploring all the little crack and crevice. Highly suggest wearing good boots and bringing a small bag to pick up any little you see. Unfortunately some people are jerks and we can spend a few minutes while enjoying everything to clean it up.
Lovely. Got here at low tide and was able to hike right into the center of everything. Saw some people wading around the farther cliffs. I didnt know exactly what I was looking for, but theres a couple of rangers with an educational stop for kids right by parking lot. Still enjoyed seeing the shells, crabs, and fish!
Finally visited the tide pools. So cool to see and experience the tide pools. Keep your eye out for various sea life
National park passes welcome! This place is beautiful! Could have sat here forever and stared into the coast.
Fantastic classic California coastline.
Great place for a short hike down to the pools at low tide. Children absolutely love the exposure to the anemones, snails, crabs, and other life found in the pools
Beautiful place to explore at low tide. Watch the day end beautifully and enjoy America’s National Monuments!
Beautiful and peaceful. Be cautious if you have kids with you. Safety 1st
Cool spot next to the Cabrillo National Monument but you know I have to pay $20 per carload to come on in which is pretty expensive but it is beautiful and you can get an annual pass for $35 for a year!
Beautiful! Easy little hike down to see the tide pools.
What a great way to spend an afternoon! Family friendly hike. Enjoyed by the teens and the kids. You can always pack a lunch and sit and at the edge of the cliffs for awhile.
Absolutely beautiful! Make sure you take tide times!
Do this coastal walk you will not regret it! Incredible views!
What a cool place! We were excited to find out that our national parks pass worked here.
It was a scenic drive down to the tide pools. The walk trail hike is a great place to relax for some brisk walking while enjoying the gorgeous coastline. Its a perfect spot to practice your photography. One of the places not to be missed when in San Diego.#PointLomaTidePools #LetsGuide #SanDiegoGuide
Our trip here was brief but we enjoyed every minute of it. The parking spaces were nearly filled during our Sunday early afternoon visit.
Nice views, lots of people
This was an awesome spot to check out. Super beautiful place to walk around.
Probably one of the best places Ive been. We went on a full moon and got the lowest tide so we could see all the creatures! Not only that, but the scenery is phenomenal. There are a few trails you can walk along to get to other parts of the beach.Parking is difficult if you dont go early and the park costs $20 per car!
Absolutely beautiful! The grandchildren had a blast playing in the water and looking at all the beautiful creatures. Highly recommend.
We come here with our family once a week to enjoy the view
Watch the Pacific ocean imagine you are from Atlantic ocean 6 years ago.Enjoy the California sunshine imagine you were adopted in the cold snowy weather.Rest in peace, my dear Orion.
Not what I expected paid 20$ just to go walk around. We didnt see anything amazing about it.
This was one of my favorite things to do at San Diego! Here you get an amazing view of the ocean and it is an amazing place to walk around or sit back and relax. In general point Loma is a fantastic place to walk around and enjoy both fantastic views from the city line, bit also from the ocean.
Its so amazing here, even on an overcast day. I love seeing the different rock and sand formations. I highly recommend coming here at visiting the Cabrillo NM.
You need to time low tide perfectly to make it worthwhile
TIDE POOLS AND CLIFFS! was a bit cloudy but cant control the weather. And there were guides on site to name and show us were the animals were.
Beautiful! Kids love it! Be prepared to pay $20 per vehicle. It is best to check the tide charts before you go, trying to aim your trip for low tide. If you can get that to coincide with sunset, you will have some great photo opportunities!
Beautiful quiet area. Nice trails with some interesting views.
Very beautiful views. Lots to see and keep you busy for hours!
We loved exploring the tide pools!
It wasnt low tide when we were there, but it was still very cool. BEWARE this is not a safe walk or location for small children.
Beautiful scenery and walking isnt too bad, would suggest to wear something with grip and maybe something you dont mind getting wet just in case. Went just a bit before low tide but was still able to see a lot.
Awesome hikes enough area to stay away from any crowds.
This place is beautiful! Its a national park and part of a Navy base so its very well maintained. Parking down by the tide pools is extremely limited and very tight so be prepared.
Beautiful and interestingly historic places to visit while in San Diego. Its worth it to get aways from the city and crowds and be in nature. It was well worth the visit!
Stopped in for a quick view when I landed in San Diego. The view here is very nice and pretty interesting the difference you see when tide is in versus when it is out.
Fun if youre down for a hike on steep terrain. Cool ocean surf crashing into the rocks. Kelp forest.
Very beautiful tide pools! We went as the tide was going out, and climbed around the first tide pool for a long time. We saw crabs, anemones, and lots of hermit crabs. Beautiful rock formations, and stunning views from all sides of the peninsula.
The tide wasnt low enough for me to see the tide pools when I was there, but this is a gorgeous place. The drive is beautiful and the little hike is awesome. Best of San Diego for sure.
Beautiful nature setting, I did some rock climbing in the tidal area. Many little creatures to be found.
Dont even come to san diego if your not gonna stop here
Amazing gataway. Stunning landscape
As an out of towner this place was amazing ! Breathtaking views of the ocean im glad we came to check it out.
One of my favorite places to be in nature. I discovered so many beautiful, new creatures in the tidal pools. I cant wait to visit again.
Beautiful place for the whole family to discover sea life!
Even though its not a hike its a walk I gave it 5 stars because it was a great walk for family members of basic hiking skills. The view is great, theres some room to stop if you need to. Theres also a lighthouse you can go explore and walk to the top to look out
A very good use of my vacation.
Had what some might call a cathartic experience here, will definitely go back once I get the chance. This is an excellent and ideal location if your looking to get some insight into yourself or need time to reflect and clarify.
If your in San Diego you need to take a trip over and check out this great beach..
This place is amazing, the parking can be a little small but the additional parking thats further up the trail works just as well, there is a small descent when you head down the trail of the additional parking and once you get down you get to see what point Loma tide pools is all about, gorgeous scenery and fun for everyone, I highly recommend this place. Active duty military gets in free.
It is closed at 4:30. The views are beautiful. We took the pictures from the parking lot.
Recommend that you come in the morning (check tide charts) since parking is limited
Beautiful view, lots of places to explore tidepools, great hike and not difficult.
So much fun. Make sure you check when low tide is before going. We lucked out and got there about the time you needed to be.
Gorgeous spot worth visiting.
Amazing place!
Clean place. Nice server(Jennifer) She was great(very attentive). Drink refills were done in a timely maner and took away dishes when we were done. Restaurant is in great location. Nice Spanish music not loud. Drinks were I guess I should say not not our style .4 stars because of the drinks. Bloody mary was very different and margarita were so so. Meat to veggie ratio was backwards for the fajitas. Generous portions though. Nice food preparations.Time of day is Tuesday around 2 PM. Not a lot of people. My card was declined( due to travel)and the server was very descreat. I have been here before 2 years ago and would recommend the sword fish tacos.
We had a blast. It was fun being a little kid for a few hours. It was a absolutely fantastic time. The waves and rocks.
Drive, walk or ride down from Cabrillo national monument. There is plenty of parking to take advantage of. The start of the trail there are some informative handouts laminated by the park staff. Walking along the trail is not too strenuous and the views of the ocean and wildlife are worth it.
