The high voltage room itself was good but the guy who told us the rules was a little different. He told us we had to do a song and dance for any clues after we used up our first 2. He talked about politics, race, gender, weight, and sexual preferences in his rules speech which was awkward and weird. I think the price is high for only a half hour. We found other locations with the same price for an hour long and unlimited clues

Really fun room and well themed. The instructions did get us confused when we were not supposed to touch stuff on the walls but that stopped us from progressing. Employees could be more enthusiastic but fun anyways

We did both the High Voltage and Spellcaster Rooms. Both were the same level of design (both puzzle and environmental). I enjoyed the High Voltage Room a bit more. No real complaints, the rooms were solid, fun, and had good design. Spellcaster did have a few moments that felt disconnected, but for the most part, we had a great time. Customer service was great. (2 enthusiasts and their 6-year old daughter who have done about 80 rooms!)

Good time! Pleasant staff and wonderful vibe. We were 3 steps from finishing the outbreak room. We plan to go back and try the other room. Worth the time and money to try. We were unsure if wed even like it but as soon as we left we talked about it for hours. Well be back!

A fantastic experience from start to finish! 60 minutes to solve the mystery of Draculas Tomb or the Zombie Outbreak! Weve done both of them and they are each unique to their themes. Super challenging and a lot of fun.

I came here a few months ago but had a less than pleasant experience. The location and room was well decorated but the some of the puzzles were an odd combination of worn/unworkable. Other puzzles were fairly obvious on how to solve. Our biggest issue was at the end of the room, being asked to “turn out our pockets” to make sure we didn’t steal any keys, locks, etc. I can totally understand a business owner wanting to protect their assets, but I didn’t appreciate the accusation after we had just paid them.

Fun time. Puzzles arent so hard that they take away from enjoying the experience. The decorations/props are a little rough and are directly responsible for part of the initial talk with the person who runs it.

We were able to walk-in and do their Outbreak room just the two of us on a Saturday late afternoon. A couple of chairs in the lobby would be nice while waiting, but overall no complaints. The room itself was fine, Ill chalk it up to personal experience, weve done about thirty rooms and this was an average room. One of the containers was set so close to the combination that when we solved the puzzle we only had to nudge one of the letters/numbers to open it. Had we glanced at the container we may not have needed to solve that particular puzzle. The final container didnt operate quite right, but that was our error not the games. Overall Outbreak was an average, enjoyable game with nothing overly complicated and the two of us got through with about 20 minutes left on the clock. They have one other room, while I would not drive the hour (for us) solely to try the second room, we would go back for the second room if we were already going to be in Salem.

My boyfriend and I had an amazing time. This was our first escape room experience and we were both incredibly pleasantly surprised-we even managed to book a game that was only us two. We did the Zombie room which was clever, challenging, and very fun. The sets were really detailed and much more interactive than we had anticipated. The story line was very creative, and even though we didn’t finish in time we both had so much fun. The staff were incredibly kind, supportive, and approachable. You are given a radio to communicate with them and they make the ground rules/what to expect very clear before the game. All around great experience. We will definitely be back!

I have never done an escape room before because I thought they would be lame. We went to this particular escape room because my friend was having a birthday. Then the gentleman, peter and Joey, running the room were the sweetest guys ever they told us the rules, and explained about the clues. Step by step everything we needed to know before we went into the room. The clues were intelligent and actually made you think which was something I loved most about this room. There were things that made you go back and forth from room to room making sure we had to remember everything from the first room. I recommend this place to everyone who tells me they are going to be in the area! I loved every minute of this!!

I wish I could rate this 0 stars. I have done a few escape rooms before and this would be my third one and I would NOT recommend it. First of all, the staff was rude when we first got there. They acted like we were a bother to them. Complaining about being there for over 12 hours. I came to have fun not hear staff complaining of their long day or giving an attitude to a paying customer. Secondly, the clues that the staff gave us were horrible and not helpful. They were given out of order and wasted a lot of our game time. When we were given the last clue, we stayed on this part for almost 25 minutes before one staff member came in and said that we broke their wand and came back with another one to open the box. After the game was finished we were blamed and accused of being “rough” and breaking the hot glue off this wand for one of the clues. If we were being “too rough” or broke the wand and they said they saw us on camera and heard us wouldn’t they come in and let us know we were being too rough or broke the wand instead of waiting until we asked for help? They were extremely rude and like I said this was the WORST escape room I have ever done. Their staff needs a reality check and be more professional towards their customers because right off the bat they were rude to me and my family. I would never go there again and honestly it’s too bad because I love Salem and come here every year and enjoy doing things like this but it was by far the worst. Get new staff!

An awesome experience! The puzzles were cleverly designed and I really enjoyed that at the start of the game, the objective was clear to escape the room but we didnt know what first to look for. Once we got the ball rolling we solved around 1/2 the puzzles, then the second 1/2 was interesting. I wont spoil any more of it, just give a try!! Bring your significant other, family, and/or friends and immerse yourself for an hour. And dont be shy to ask hints if you get stuck! Good luck :D

This wasn’t our first escape room and we were in a group with 6 people. The wallow talkies used you could not hear any clues. The clues given were VERY out of order which slowed the group down. We had tried to unlock one clue which we were told how to complete at the end the same way we were trying during the game and we would have completed the game in time. When showed how to complete the last clue the instructor told us that clue was “sensitive”. From the get get go it seemed like this game was set up for you to fail. No wonder there was a 20% success rate. Would not recommend if you want to win!

Good escape room, well put together. Butted heads with some of the staff due to some people in my party but they did help us even if we were late. Manager is very nice and wants the best for customers. We did the Outbreak room and it was fun and interesting with some twists. I apologize to manager and staff for the ways we acted as a group. I want to go back and try the spellcasters room. I recommend the outbreak if you are interested in science and want a challenging room.

What a wonderful time we had as a group of friends out for fun on a Friday night! We didnt know what to expect and when we got there the owner was fantastic. Explained the game and off we went. We had to work as a team which was great to see how we worked together. Lots of laughs. The owner gave us hints when we were really stuck. Which helped enough but we still had to figure it out. We made it out right before the time was up. Great theme. Really enjoyed the game. We were told they are planning on adding an additional room. Cant wait as we will definitely come back!!

My boyfriend and I have been bitterly disappointed by multiple escape rooms in the North Shore area EXCEPT for Escape Room Salem. Both the rooms weve tried at Escape Room Salem have been well-designed and logical, while still being challenging. The aesthetic of the room is hands down the best weve seen. And, most importantly, the attendants have ALWAYS been clear, concise, and good at communicating over the walkie talkie. There is nothing more frustrating than an attendant who not only does not listen to you, but also charges you for a clue youve already solved.

It wasnt about the room, that was great. It was the way we were treated by the individual at the front desk. He was rude and dismissive, and though I had specified which room we wanted to do, he signed us up for the wrong one, and then got annoyed at US for asking him to change our reservation to the right one. It was several hours after and though we really didnt plan to stay so long, he refused to give us a refund and so we were stuck. It was extremely unpleasant and put a huge damper on our visit to Salem. We will never go back and we will tell every single person we know about how awful an experience we had. Grrl bye .

Should 100% be 0 I cant even believe the way that you talked to one of your customers in the reviews very poor management. I do not feel bad one bit giving my 2 cents now.I would of loved to give this place a good review but there is an outstanding issue here that needs to be resolved. To start my group was in Salem to check out the festival. This was great because we also enjoy doing escape rooms and happened to notice great reviews of this place, so why not give it a shot? The answer is Service. The first thing an escape room has to have is an amazing host, someone who is passionate about the experience for you and your party. The individuals that were working this night had no interest if my party enjoyed the room or not, now I know these individuals were not the owner due to the fact they were talking poorly about ownership for 3 full minutes while we waited to enter the room. The first thing we were told which is expected from escape rooms, was to show up roughly 15 minutes early. My party showed up at the perfect time and even had to rush from our last experience during the festival to get there. When we reached the venue we were told to please wait three minutes to see if anyone else would be joining us. We were 6 minutes away from our launch time and the employee did not even start giving us the guidelines rules and layout of the room we were about to enter. Why did we come early? Now 5 minutes over our room entry time a group of 4 now comes in the door and say they would like to reserve a room the employee says great you can join these guys and puts them in our group. Our group would of been okay with this if this had happened 15 minutes before room launch. Seeing the employees had dragged their feet we were now a party of 7. My group now became the lesser party and we had to accommodate the larger party of four, who again showed up 5 minutes past our original reservation start time. One thing my group despises is people who try to forcefully break the puzzle, one of the people in the party of four beat puzzles by placing the magnets with different objects until it would unlock, they would continue to do this 3 more puzzles. Due to this our puzzles became out of whack because we were out of sequence with the puzzle due to opening something we should not of been able to and now had to ask for help.My group has never asked for a hint on a puzzle room before, so now the feeling of accomplishment was lost. Also the person resetting the room left a component unlocked that was not supposed to be. When asking on the walkies if one of the objectives should not of been open the employee spoke condescendingly towards the whole 7 of us.To end the whole thing off we were never asked to take a completion photo and in fact asked to make room for the new party of 10 who were about to enter after us. I could go on about the poor taste that this place has left like the comment of one of the employees eating a dominos bread stick order in front of us and saying he was not going to start us, or about the dead cat that another employee talked about for 6 minutes into our experience with her two other employees while being completely ignored. I think the best part was hearing how they wanted to harass another coworker till she quit but could not because she had befriended management.I am sorry to have to leave this review to management but this was the long conversation that took the 2 hour car ride home for our party and how bad the taste in our mouth was. A room is 50% host 50 % room, your room was the best we have ever been in but we would choose any room we have been in over yours just because of the poor host.I would like to leave off by saying who ever put the escape room together for Spellcaster The Wizards Book of Secrets did an outstanding job. The room was amazing in aesthetic, organization, and challenge. The room had many call outs in terms of problem solving and did not reuse many of the same puzzles which is an A+.

You need to know this is IN the mall...directions we had did not indicate thatWe arrived about 5 minutes late. Game had already been started. In that 5 minutes the 8 other people had already solved half the first room.Decor was nice, not completely sure about the puzzles as there were far too many people in the room...too many people working on either the same puzzle confusing things or different puzzles at the same time.Very nice bought end set piece but when it gave audio clue it was too noisy with the rest of that puzzles part still making noises to hear the clue and the clue could not repeat after redoing the action. No definite end to solving the room...find object hut none of us were sure the object we had was the actual goal... possibly due to too many people when the game stage was set.We have done several puzzle rooms...none have allowed this many people and it really does impact gameplay...we were very meh about the experience after, especially driving an hour plus to get there.

This company used to be one of my favorites, with both the Outbreak and Draculas tomb being exceptional experiences. However, the Spellcaster room is one of the worst and frankly upsetting experiences I have ever participated in. The staff was rude and unprofessional, refusing to give hints (which, mind you, was the first one we asked for and to find an awkwardly hidden object), which burned time and frustrated the group. The puzzles were either convoluted, far too simple, or non-existent, with one puzzle requiring the guessing of an order with 120 combinations. This, in accompanied with our gamemasters condescending, argumentative, and rude attitude, made this experience all the worse. I used to consider Escape Room Salem as a great subversion of the terrible mall escape room, but with this addition, it is hard to trust the company again.EDIT: In response to the owner, the reason I had failed to leave a glowing review of your other games was due the fact I did not have a google account at the time. Just so you know, I wrote this review later due to a mental health issue I was working through, and I am sorry it caused you harm. However, you seem to feel as though my review isnt an accurate depiction of your game, with your only counter-argument being that it is high tech. That does not make a game good. Well thought out puzzles make a game good. I have seen games with complete automation fail at delivering enjoyment, and games with not a single magnetic lock succeed as escape rooms. Honestly, I am incredibly shy in these types of scenarios (I have autism, which does impair social skills), and found it difficult to talk to you up front. If I am correct, you may have been the man in a lab coat? The one who repeatedly questioned and denied our request for hints? Or the one who found issue with me using a walkie talkie after politely asking the nervous handler if I could check if a prop was broken? I am sorry, but you cant expect people to try 120 combinations in a room with a time limit, or even 6 for that matter. It is boring and a waste of time for everyone. If you cannot fill the room with original puzzles, then either cut out some time or inquire about a designer, because guessing is not fun at all. I appreciate you trying to compensate for the experience, but with the attitude on display, I am better off going to a company more passionate about the field.
