We visited the museum as a starting point for a tour of the House of Dreams. We had zero expectations and no knowledge of the museum or the Martha Berry story. After walking through the museum, we left impressed both by the Martha Berry story and the excellent historical story-telling found in the museum. We were especially intrigued by the link to Henry Ford and the Ford Foundation, and the other relationships developed by Martha Berry that made her educational projects possible. Beyond the museum, the nearby walking trails and the campus are phenomenal. Dont miss the Log Cabin or the gift shop, located outside the main building.
Ill be honest, my husband and I only came here because I wanted to see the house from Sweet Home Alabama. We got there just after the last tour of the day had been taken down to get the tour of the house, but a kind young guy offered to take us down anyway. We caught up with the tour that had only just begun seeing the house. Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgable about the house and the life of Martha Berry and made the tour very interesting. She even answered almost all of the questions one of the other guests had about the structure of the building and materials used (which was a LOT). Everything was gorgeous and well kept and everyone working there was so kind.
This place has some amazing facts...check it out
This was a very interesting and educational place to visit. The students that are your tour guides or information guides are very knowledgeable and friendly. There is a lot of history to be found here. The buildings and the grounds are well kept and clean. It is a great place to bring school aged children to learn more about the past. Younger children must be well supervised because of the chance of destruction to antiques or important artifacts. There is the opportunity to get some fresh air walking the grounds or sitting in the gazebos. No food or beverages should be permitted in the buildings. And there isnt a place to order food so eat before or after your visit.
I had an awesome visit to the museum. Our tour guide was great and very knowledgeable! It was a rainy day, we were the only one on the tour, and they were great about it! Very friendly. It was well worth the $8 per person. I
What a great idea And the history of Martha Berry is keepsakes memory,we enjoyed the time in the gardens,The old cars That Martha last rode in was a treasurer, do Take a trip back in time,Berry College,
I love to visit the museum and grounds with my daughter. Its a perfect place to walk with a toddler. There is plenty to explore with beautiful gardens and trails around the property, and the museum is lovely as well. I love the varied exhibits Oak Hill hosts. A lovely local historical gem, with the added bonus of some birding and wildlife sightings is a pleasing way to spend any day here in Rome.
Took my students here and they lvoed it --- it was a beautiful and yet educational time for them.
Very interesting place to visit. Learned a lot about its history.
I came through here excited to show my mom the place filmed for Sweet Home Alabama, however ended up frustrated. I pulled up to see that the drive to the house was blocked by cones so I went into the museum. The guy at the counter said we had to pay and go on the tour to see it. So I asked him if we could just pay and walk up there..he said no and we had to be escorted and needed to wait for the tour at 1. So we waited an hour and came back. We go in and pay and then one of the ladies that was at the counter with the guy earlier says, You paid so you can go walk up there. I was frustrated and told her the guy said we had to be escorted and wait til 1. Then she says you can just go. I wanted to do that in the first place, but had to wait an hour for nothing. All I wanted was a picture of the outside and had to wait an hour and pay for a few pictures.
Really enjoyed taking the tour, me and my family went a few weeks back and the tour guide was Great so sweet and I had not been here since I was a Kid and it was amazing to see and to take my kids to see a local place and learn about local history
Went to oak hill to look at the beautiful scenery and was then stopped by a little weirdo and told me I had to pay $8 a person to walk around are you kidding me.
This is an AMAZING historical gem! The history of Martha Berry and the founding of Berry College is beautifully displayed and comes to life on the tour of the grounds.
Beautiful museum and house on a stunning property. The docents are very knowledgeable and friendly. Might even see woodchucks on the grounds.
Really enjoyed the tour! The young guides get into sharing the info.
