Ive been wanting to go here for a while, so when the opportunity arose I took it. The arcade is very reminiscent of my childhood, offering mostly older classic games. The staff were very helpful in getting the few off machines back on and ready for playing. The selection and variety of games seems perfectly adequate for spending many hours here. My only desire (for non-COVID times) would be a pocket full of tokens I could plunk in the machine. Its the only tactile experience missing from an otherwise great place!
Wish there was more places like this love the variety of old arcade games and the game counsels you can play. $10.00 all day what a bargain! They even offer VR! Love pinball kind of wish the games had sound a lot dont! The projector with the 80s pop jams is a nice touch. Some of the games are broke and dont function the greatest all the time.. The people that work there are cool and kids 7 and under are free! If you have kids you cant beat that!
The Machine Shed is great. All you can play games for $8. Its a really fun arcade. They also sell all kinds of gaming systems and games for sale from Atari, to Wii, to Game Gear.
Absolutely amazing place filled with so much cool stuff!! Everyone is super nice and super helpful with everything!! Definitely a must go place for all gaming related items!! Great atmosphere!!
Hidden gem of rochester. If you like classic arcade games, must go here.
Best place to go for anything video game related! Their arcade is amazing and they have a vast collection of all types of electronics! The workers are also very polite and nice when I had any questions.
Good staff, rare nes games. Good overall experience
My nephews say its really fun with lots of video games to play. They are 8 and 10 and would recommend it for that age group
Hands down best game store in a 100 mile radius. Arcade is awesome too.
I love this place. Im a 43 year old game geek. Machine Shed has been here for awhile but I just went in my first time yesterday. What a treat. Friendly greetings from staff. And the environment had my head flooded with fantastic memories from my childhood. Cool place to loose yourself for a couple hours. I plan on being a regular.
Disgusted after overhearing your employees talking about how you wont pay them .... definately wont look at this place the same again. Pay employees first then the owner takes whats left
Great game selection and great prices! I live in Illinois and the retro game prices out there can get ridiculous. So happy I stopped by.
Awesome experience! As other reviews stated, the staff are friendly, knowledgeable and available to answer questions. We had a group of 6 guys 30-40 yrs old and all had a great time. Shooting games nostalgia for sure. Looking forward to the possibility of Halo 1 on the big screen.
Chill environment. Friendly staff. Good deals. Will be back to do more business.
The Machine Shed is great. Brought my son here tonight. He may be a little young to play most of the games at 4 but he had a blast running around. I probably had more fun then he did. Pricing is very reasonable at $10 to get in per person and you can play as long as you want and as many games as you want.(very cheap fun for the 2-2.5 hours we were there. I highly recommend this place. They even have old movie videos blasting on the projector as you are playing.
This place is way bigger than it looks! They have everything. Racing games, DDR, mortal combat, guitar hero, etc. Pinball machines are limited. They do not serve food or drinks and I am not sure if they have restroom. We will definitely be back!
By far the best deal for gaming arcades in Rochester! If you have your own consoles at home it is worth scanning their shelves and you can buy their big arcade boxs too! They have tons of cool retro items besides games as well. The staff is extremely chill and they have Virtual Reality! Just pay one time and you can game all day! If your gaming console or remotes act up they will fix them or replace them at a reasonable price as well! By far the best arcade around! Kids are free too! If you remember how the Shed was over a decade ago they expanded and its about 4 times bigger! 12 out of 10 ;)
Nothing but great things to say!
I enjoy going in and looking through the old/new games that you can purchase right away before going and getting into the action of playing the arcade games. I took my daughter and her friend there today and was told they charge a additional $5.00 fee for the VR in the back. Its 10 dollars to play the games already so charging for that seems kinda ridiculous honestly.
Really one of the only retro game store options in town if you need anything older than PS3 or 360. They do offer system repairs and the all you can play arcade is reasonably priced if you need an evening of something to do with friends or family that wont break the bank.
Good selection of games. Well maintained. Great retro vibe.
These guys are great they have terrific arcade games plus game controllers lots of used and new games as well.
Great place. $10 all you can play is an amazing bargain. Came here a few weeks ago just to kill time and was amazed. They have a DDR machine too.
This place is killer if you are into gaming. They have all you can play for $10 all day long. You can play any games before purchase on any console. Nostalgia factor at maximum. This brings me back to my childhood. I am 28 and spending all day here. Too bad Im not from the area otherwise I would be her more often. Dude at the counter was awesome and even joined a match of super smash Bros.
Super cool place to play on vintage arcade machines. Just be patient with some machines that need some support to start to play with.
Awesome place for a day of fun. Me and my boyfriend had a blast. Will definitely be returning!
Fun hole in the wall arcade! Staff is excellent and knowledgeable. James is the man!
Super fun for the whole family. Loud and a bit dirty but thats perfect for an arcade!
Tons of games available to play, or buy.
Friendly epic gamer staff, absolutely amazing games. VR was incredible. RIP Air hockey Table
Great experience for the price. Love the old school games.
Amazing arcade and game shop! They also repair gaming systems and electronics. If you love the 80s and 90s this is the place! Staff are always friendly and helpful!
Purchased a couple hundred dollars worth of games and a console here. Everything worked perfectly! Very trustworthy place.
Staff is awesome/ knowledgeable, and the prices are very fair! Every old school game store up in the cities, doesnt come close pricewise! They honor their returns plus their arcade rocks. I recommend anyone to come checkout/ support this GREAT locally owned franchise!
Coolest hangout spot in Duluth! If you like video games check this place out. Make sure to bring your vintage gaming friends. We spent hours hanging out in this place
A lot to do for little cash.
Had an issue with an item that was purchased, however the issue was resolved well under the quoted timeframe, and Machine Shed was very easy to work with. A great selection of retro video games for collectors, and a good amount of arcade machines as well!
Great service. i was having issue with my console not reading a disc i got here. over the phone a staff member told me what to do and it was all sorted out. the second time i went there i was purchasing a gamecube game it looked very scratched so the employee tested it out to make sure it worked. most places won’t do that for you. overall outstanding!
This place was a fun place to go to for a date night with my wife. Me and my wife went here on a Friday night in January and there was about ten to fifteen other people there. There are plenty of varieties of games to play which made it very fun for us. They had pop, candy, and pizza for refreshments and they sold old video games and consoles. For $10 you get a good amount of arcade gaming options and theyll even hookup consoles to play on a TV. Would suggest to all for a fun night out!
Check this place out! They were so generous to donate time to our mentors and kids at Bolder Options. Will bring you back to some pretty great games some of us grew up with. Super friendly environment.
Great time for just a few bucks love it
Im a regular here, but I come for the retro home console games, not the arcade games as much. Very welcoming staff, knows their stuff, can do harder hardware fixes the average Joe may not want to do. When there is a small time retro game store supporting it is a must, and this is one of the best ones in the area.
Friendly, helpful staff. I love the idea of paying one rate and then playing unlimited credits. Good selection of nostalgic games!
They are really expensive but have a great selection of games
A host of old time arcade and pinball, includes some modern and retro console sales too. Funny thing, we spent most of our time playing foosball, a game that predates video games altogether
This a is great place for a lot of fun for a very reasonable price! Love sharing all the games with my kids I used to play at their age. Highly recommend this place for the kids of all ages. Great atmosphere. If you go and dont have fun and find some kind of nostalgia theres only one person to blame.
Great arcade. Spent hours playing Bubble Bobble, Street Fighter 2, Qix, and tons of others. If you love old arcade games you will enjoy an evening spent here. They set an awesome 80s atmosphere as well with music projected up on the walls above the arcade machines. All machines seemed to be in excellent condition. They also have a nice selection of retro game cartridges to buy. Highly recommended. The arcade in my town back home closed over 10 years ago so its really something special to get that feeling again.
Very fun games! Friendly staff too!
Excellent response time on a product pickup, and friendly staff.
Friendly and quick
Awesome vintage arcade amd video game store
Cool old school games, and really affordable
The oldschool games that they have are so fun. It brought back my childhood memories of playing arcade games. Once you pay at the entrance you can play for however long you desire. Great place!
The Machine Shed is an awesome place. The staff is great, and James the owner is super positive and enthusiastic about gaming. We first found the shed when we were looking for arcade game rentals for our wedding reception. James was very helpful, and the games we rented were very affordable. Our guests loved the experience! Since the wedding, we have enjoyed going to the shed and playing some games and catching up with James. Don’t be afraid to ask the staff questions or request games, they are always accommodating. This place is certainly worth getting to know!
Its an arcade with everything from Atari games to virtual reality, of course its great!
A real life time machine. Great staff, and the owner is a true believer. Excelsior.
Pretty good place. Id like a wider selection of fighting games! Also maybe a sheet of instructions for the emulation cabinet to go back to game select.
Took my husband here for his birthday last night. It was definitely one of the coolest places I’ve been to in a long time. We bought SNES games at a decent price. The guys at the counter were awesome, helpful, and went above and beyond anything I ever expected. They had a bunch of old systems hooked up so that you could play and try the games out. They had a little arcade in the back which was super cool. The prices were pretty great for the games we did buy. We are also going to do future business with them and have them fix a few of our old SNES games to put new batteries in them. I feel like the price that was quoted was inexpensive. I hope they stay around for a long time to come. One of the greatest hidden gems in Rochester. Anyone that likes video games should check this store out and absolutely support it. They even have some amazing collectors items if you’re into that. My hope for your future is to be able to have a larger building some day and get more stuff!!! From what I heard they just expanded but you guys got something special here, I’m so proud of you all. I will absolutely be a repeat customer. This store brought back fond memories of my childhood. I was super happy to see a dad in the arcade teaching his son how to play some old school video games. It’s a great place to reminisce and make new memories. I’m excited for your future.
Great value, and they have DDR which is all I really need in an arcade.
We brought our son here last night and I was super impressed! The young man (owner?) working was friendly, knowledgable, and helpful. He took the time to point out and explain unique features of the establishment to my son, it was obvious that he really cared about and enjoyed his work.In addition to a gamut of vintage arcade games, the Shed also featured a number of vintage gaming consoles, all set up for play. There was also a mixed stream of vintage and contempory music videos projected on the wall to provide background music. In addition to that, disco lights, vintage posters and toys (Gizmo!) adorned the walls, making a nostalgic feast anywhere they landed!Unlimited gameplay cost $5 for kids and $10 for adults, i was happy to pay and felt more than worth the price! Keep up the great work!
Fun games. Smaller than I expected. What was really cool was the nastolgic videos playing on the screen, while playing video games. $10 unlimited play. Worth it!
The guys here are friendly, I definitely reccomend you come check it out. A bit small considering all they have to offer. The only reason I considered 4 stars was that at times you nearly have to climb around each other to access the machines. That being said...A TON of choices, and when it comes to an arcade, choices are everything. Oh yeah, cover charge= free machines!!
Excellent service, energizing atmosphere. I really have nothing bad to say. You need to get in there!
Love it! It has a great 80s vibe. The staff is friendly, there are so many games to choose from and its reasonably priced.
Such a great blast from the past to be able to go to an actual arcade and jam some old machines!!
Great price for being able to play all the arcade games they have all day. And they have some really cool older game consoles and games
Awesome locale with dozens of old school machines and a few newer machines running emulators with hundreds of games. Projectors playing 80s music solidifies the great vibe. Im so glad that Rochester has an arcade once more! Its a flat fee to play so the earlier you get there the better. Also its kind of hard to find, so make sure to keep a keen eye.
Just a good old fashioned arcade. I couldnt beat every game, or even one. Luckily didnt have to pay quarters because that bad dudes game wouldve cost a fortune.
We had so much fun here. The games are in excellent condition and all worked well. There was also a great selection to choose from.
Great retro games. Fair prices. Wish they had more Pinball machines.
Price you pay is great. Love how it made for adults and kids. Location is awesome. I love going there.
Awesome experiance. Had a lunch special for cheap games. A little hard to find but the owner said that new signs are coming that will make it easier for sure.Great customer service. Guys were super friendly showing me around and helping me find games. Will be defiantly coming back for sure.
Awesome experience. Brings back a lot of memories. My seven year son loved it. The staff was great.
Nice throw back. Worth the 10bucks to get in. Only thing I wish was it was bigger. I wish we had one ba k where I live.
Eh, updated review*Okay, let me be straight, it is cool and has its perks. If you want to bring your kid there and have them experience arcades and retro games, go for it. However, from my point of view, this place is not wonderful. The pros1) arcade cabinets2) can buy games3) idk location is neatThe cons1) Bathroom is a plywood closet near the entrance2) Cramped3) Location is in sketchy area of Rochester4) Owner is sneaky and disrespectful at times5) Building is definitely not up to code6) Bathroom is near food7) Safety HazardsJust like Coyote Creek, this business gets to much hype for what they offer and how they treat there customers. I would totally recommend you go and try it out, for $10-$20 it is a neat place to see, but afterwards feel free to avoid it and spend your money else where.
Could use some more work or open it up if you have more then twenty people in there your not getting around. Paid 20 bucks for about three hours of play. Not bad but they need more room.
Im too young to have been able to experience a legitimate arcade. As Ive gotten older, Ive tried a lot of different places that claimed to be one. When I moved to Rochester, It was right across the street from Bowlocity. Big red letters read ARCADE on the front, and I was so excited to check it out. I died a little on the inside when I visited, realizing it wasnt an arcade, but a blown up and terribly expensive version of an app store. I almost gave up my search before I heard about the Machine Shed. After being let down so many times previously, I was hesisitant to give it a shot. The first time I visited, i was there as soon as it opened at 11. I opened the door, stepped into darkness, and as my eyes adjusted i was in awe. The owner stepped out from the back to greet me, asked if i had been there before, and when I said no he thanked me for stopping in before giving me a short tour / explanation of how to use the machines. I had so much fun jumping from machine to machine, game to game, I lost track of time! If I was looking lost, or had a question, the owner was happy to help. The combination of having a pay once, play as much as you want model, atmosphere, and excellent customer service made it a no brainier to rate it 5 stars. If youve been on the fence about checking it out, GO! You will not be disappointed.
I love the concept of paying to get in, then having the games free after that. Its a little too small of a space though!
Fantastic place! Love the atmosphere and the people are so kind. I immediately felt welcomed and part of a cool club! A staple to check out in Rochester!
What a great place to spend an afternoon. Family friendly and great games! Keep up the great work!
Games were great, all clean and worked! Employee (Alex) was very knowledgeable and was fun to talk to about games, very friendly. Coming back here when Im in Rochester again
Awesome Arcade. My girlfriend and I have been looking for a fun retro arcade to go to in Rochester and this is definitely it. The staff make you feel welcome and are willing to educate and involve you. Great place to take the kids or adults!
Awesome video games fair price
My kids had lots of fun playing games I grew up playing with my brothers. A little cramped with lots of games. Old school fun!!!
Was definitely impressed with this place, and cannot wait to go back. The vibe there is great! Video games, consoles, arcade games to play and more!
Great place to hang out and relax after a long week. I will be back again soon. I can find almost any game I would ever want to play there.
Awesome place, awesome staff, great prices.
A really good value. Great games. Cheap eats. Highly recommend.
I am a traveling technician in the wind industry. I recently worked in Rochester, MN. I purchased an original NES from The Machine Shed and already had an NES Classic Edition moded and it works fantastic. I have since refurbished the original NES, controllers, and joystick and they work beautifully. Thank you guys. I love this place. Anywhere Im at in America I call here first and they will ship it to where Im at. Im working on my next project to refurbish a Super Nintendo and cant wait to call to order a SNES classic moded.
Nice variety of old school console games and all day adults 10.00 good deal...me and my son stayed 2 hrs.
A great place to get lost in nostalgia for a few hours. They have a bunch of arcade machines ranging from the early classics to modern racers. Several multicades including one that is set up for four player action. Come alone, bring a friend, or even talk with them about private parties. This place is a blast. Pay at the door and play whatever you want until youre ready to go home.
The Machine Shed was so much fun! There is a good variety of games. Definitely a throwback kind of place
Wow! Just wow loved the music the games the whole environment was awesome super fun time for the family!
Best arcade ever!
