Very beautiful. A sobering reminder of the lives lost during the civil war and very humbling to see. Unfortunately due to newly proposed legislation, statues and monuments such as this one may not be around much longer. So if you want to see it I would go see it soon. I saw the R.E.LEE monument in New Orleans before they tore it down. Saddening however Im glad I was able to see it.

We drove down Monument Avenue on our recent visit to Richmond. The statues are all very nice and we were impressed with the large one honoring Robert E. Lee. The city has done a very nice job preserving history so those of us that appreciate knowing more about it can come and see.

Beautiful street to stroll and learn some history along the way. There was one intersection where there was a church on each corner! The monuments are spectacular and should be preserved. History cannot be changed. We must learn about all aspects of it in order to do better in the future.

Lee: a defender of Virginia during a time when the idea of the USA was vague but the State was paramount.Sad the uninformed, brainwashed liberals who refuse to actually understand History in its context. To that end, I don’t see anyone claiming that the Romans or Egyptians (both infamous slavers) should tear down their monuments.

This memorial is impressive. Unfortunately, it is an impression of an idealized southern dream of grandeur that was based on the preservation of a way of life attainable only by and maintained with the help of slavery and all the cruelties associated with it. Low rating for what the statue stands for, not 1 star because you have to admit its a well made and imposing monument. Maybe better to have in a museum than in a place of honour.

There are so many wonderful plantation houses in the South--and Stratford Hall is one of them. Stratford Hall? It is the ancestral home of the Lee family of Virginia and the birthplace of Robert E. Lee. It isnt visited as often as Oak Alley or Oatlands or Drayton Hall or Shirley because it is located off the beaten path in Westmoreland County in the historic Northern Neck of Virginia, an hour from I-95 on ROute 3, 45 minutes from Fredericksburg, 75 miles from Richmond and 100 miles from Washington, D.C. It is a unique mansion with a large staircase leading to the second-floor entrance that separates two imposing living spaces and spires. Built by Thomas Lee in the 1730s, Stratford Hall is one of the great houses of American history. Four generations of the Lee family passed through its stately doors, including Richard Henry Lee and Francis Lightfoot Lee, the only two brothers to sign the Declaration of Independence. Robert E. Lee was born at Stratford in 1807. Set on 1,900 acres on the Potomac River, Stratford Hall today offers a tranquil setting with hours of leisure activities for the whole family. Start by touring the visitors center and its galleries.

We have visited Arlington House a number of times over the years and it has got better each time. Not only does it give you a sense of history and the nearness of the south and north in the civil war it gives a sense of the life at that time. The view out front is beautiful looking down the Memorial Bridge over the Lincoln Memorial. In the heat of summer it can be an exhausting climb for some and it would be appropriate to wait and get transportation. Alway take water with you in summer. There are water fountains but you have to find these. This listing can be combined with Arlington Cemetery, The tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Kennedy graves. At least half a day will be needed for all three.

Monument Avenue is absolutely beautiful. Amazing homes, churches, and obviously monuments. General Robert E. Lee is a hero to many in Virginia and the monument was erected to show the respect such a great man was due. I would encourage anyone who is interested or unfamiliar with our history to research the life of Lee. Before and after the war. You may be surprised that what you learned in grade school was not accurate.

Take a moment and spend a little time here.... before some whacked out liberal takes these monuments down. Weve hot to remember our history, good or bad, so we never make the mistakes again.Learn about the man, the history of this city and think about another time. Not through the vision of now, but what were people thinking in those times.

Monument Avenue is beautiful. I have lived within blocks of it for over years. The architecture is handsome and varied. The statues to Lee and Maury, especially, are world-class. I think its important to tell the rest of the story of the Richmond story; enslavement, emancipation, Reconstruction, Jim Crow laws and more, to this day.

This is exactly the park I have been searching for and special thanks go out to the Richmond, VA Police and First Lady Michelle Obama for offering the tips necessary for one to take in such sights as the Robert E Lee park, the son of Revolutionary War officer Henry Light Horse Harry Lee III. Of personal note the name Robert is in fact my Brothers name. The name Robert means famed, bright and shining. Currently my brother an Allstate insurance commander of a TRIREME, is one who also manifests these public service qualities in the BORDERS of RED that define the various land plot surveys upon American soil. Charioted statues manifested as such to express combat engineered roadway district drawings of various symbols, glyphs, and sketches that make our Department of Natural Resources parks the clay to sacred ceramic formation cohabited house of all taste of the testa seed covering.
