Picked up the trail at Ancarrow Landing & headed to the flood wall trail & then back through the city to Ancarrow Landing. It was a beautiful low humidity late August day. Perfect hike with friends, lots of informational signage along the way. Lots of options to take different trails & explore other parts of the city. Starts in the woods but we wound through urban areas too. Great beginner level hike with multiple terrain types- covered 4+ miles, but could be lengthened or shortened

I had to come represent for my ancestors. Where is my 40acres and a mule/now I want a horse??? Its sad they had to run just to live, Im so very sad I cant believe this was life for African Americans. Thank you Harriet Tubman for your bravery=FloridaGirl

Must experience to understand our roots and culture. To understand the journey our ancestors made. I literally had chills walking knowing that this walk was made by our ancestors in shackles, neck restraints and no shoes.

It is an eye opener. Lot of history on how the slave trade started as well as the plight of slaves in that era. It is a 6 mile round-trip (3 mile each way) trail that starts in Rockett landing and ends in first African Baptist church in downtown. We did halfway from Rockett landing to Mayo bridge as it got very emotional for us reading information at every marker, plus we did not have the emotional capacity and physical energy to finish and then come back. Biking could be a good option.

Incredibly important piece of history. Highly recommend this if youre in Richmond. The beginning and end were easy to follow, the middle was a bit difficult. The half on the river was a nice hike with insightful information.

The information was awesome but this trail is not being maintained & is super sketchy. We went a little way & when we started seeing discarded junk, we turned around. Wish it was a safe place because the information we did get was wonderful.

Look we preserve the past for a reason. There is no pride in the slave history of this country but the slave trail offers a very nice walk that also offers you knowledge of our past that might be hard to swallow but if it opens minds and hearts its a perfect day.

The elegba folklore Society stages Juneteenth celebration here at the Manchester docks every year. Many participants walk-in a coffle from the docks all the way to the slave burial ground near lumpkins jail.I serve as the driver along the trail. Its a powerful experience for the participants as well as for me.It doesnt take a lot of imagination to know how devastating it must have been to offload a slave ship and walk in the dark chained to one another.

Watch what time of year you go to this Trail because it is right next to the sewage plant and the mosquitoes are horrific. I do plan on going again when it gets colder and the bugs are gone and then Im sure it will be a very beautiful Trail.
