Unfortunately they are no running because Canada has their border closed at the moment. But have used them before, had a great trip on the Black Ball Ferry previously went to Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.Beautiful country and the inner Victoria Harbor is like nothing you have seen before. I highly recommend that you visit Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
I take this ferry often on the weekends. The tables have heaters under them so if its chilly snag a table. Remember to share if your party is less than 4 people! Ive met many very nice people on this ferry. There is a duty free shop, and a cafeteria with some limited selections. They have coffee, and wine for when you are state side. The upper deck is great for the views. Lovely way to travel between Victoria, BC and Port Angeles, WA.
My family and I took a day trip Port Angeles—>Victoria—>Port Angeles on Wednesday, 8/29/18. Sailed out at 12:45pm, returned at 7:30pm. This allowed ~4.5 hours or so to walk around many of central Victoria’s sights. The sailings were wonderful, and I even saw a (gray?) whale on the return trip! The ferry departed on time, *to the minute*, both times. The duration was 90 minutes, as described. Prompt boarding and de-boarding process. Very clean ferry with plenty of indoor and outdoor ocean view space for all who want it. A decent cafeteria is also on board. No complaints!
For anyone from Seattle or the Pacific Northwest trying to find their way to Victoria (highly recommend a trip here by the way), look no further than Black Ball Ferry Line to get you there and back! Youll want to get there with some time to spare since there are international borders involved, but the whole process is relatively painless. The vessels are clean and updated, offer restrooms, food and drink, and provide lovely deck space from which to view the Washington and British Columbian coastlines.
Overall a great experience! Beautiful line. Good service. Clean. On time. Well staffed. Friendly service. Good value. The terminal in Victoria is very central and close to many tourist spots...easy to catch a tour bus to other touristy spots from downtown Victoria. Reservations are a must. The gift shop on the ferry has a nice selection!
Such a fun little ferry ride over to coupeville. Make sure to take your car across, dont just go as a passenger.
The boat was clean enough, the crew was efficient and polite. Plenty of spots to sit inside or step out on the deck to watch our progress through the Sound. I loved the jigsaw puzzles left out to work on.We didnt try the food, but were happy to see they had something just in case we forgot to eat. Since the point was to get us across the water, I wouldnt expect food on a ferry to be better priced or tastier than a gas station eatery.
Great service, friendly staff. Clean and super convenient if you travel to Canada. Dog friendly ;) Loading & unloading process was simple and easy. We were able to reserve our space online, book a hotel & excursions all as one package. It give us peace & comfort to travel abroad. We enjoyed our trip to Canada, Thank you Black Ball Ferry Line.
Taking the ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria was an economical way to go. We opted to walk on rather than drive so we left the car parked in Port Angeles very near the ferry terminal for $15 per day. The ferry has a good snack bar with plenty of food and beverage options, including beer and wine. Theres also a gift shop on board. Youll also have a chance to shop their duty-free store for a time during the crossing.
Cant wait for the border to open back up, and for the Coho, and her crew, to be operating once again!
Our tug came close to the Ferry on a very windy stormy day. 35 and 40mph winds caused our anchor to drag. Captain of the Ferry contacted us and we saw 10 foot away and scrambled to move away. The super clean Ferry is a beautiful ship, the crew is extra super nice, all have nice attitudes and treat us with great respect. We were contacted later and were told no foul and all is good.
A wonderful ferry journey across the Salish Sea, the Coho is the most beautiful ship I’ve ever sailed on. The passenger deck was clean, there was WiFi and the staff was friendly. Worth the trip!
This was the priority of our trip. Heading to Victoria BC for a few days. Black Ball was instrumental making reservations and provided the best price. Cordial and professional to the max. Use them to assure your satisfaction visiting one of the most entertaining and beautiful cities in Canada. Nice accommodations.
དཔེ་ཡག་པོ་འདུག Very nice!
This ferry is from Port Angeles to Victoria. I have only ever taken the Washington state ferries, this is a private company with a much different kind of boat. It was a nice boat with friendly workers. The price is almost exactly the same as the state ferries. There is a kitchen (with decent prices), duty free shop and souvenir shop. We will take this ferry again so all we have to do is walk on, as it drops you off right in front of parliament in BC. It was so convenient and close to everything. You also then dont have to drive up to Anacortes and then down to Victoria from Sidney.
Friendly and safe . Book ahead if you can. Good chance you might see a whale blow .
Nice and friendly staff. If you come during the busy season make sure you arrive early. Yes, you have to wait but at least that will ensure youll get for the ride. It was a smooth ride for us.
I truly have always enjoyed the ferry to Victoria BC...This was a glorious fall day...the ride was ultra smooth and I enjoyed the warmth of the suns rays as often as possible! The staff in the lounge, store were most kind and helpful. The time flew by....m~
Definitely a cool spot to hang out! There are sooo many things to do and see! I only got out to the pier though as I was riding my bike! Definitely a cool spot though
On time, clean, and easy way to travel to/from Port Angeles and Victoria.
Rode the ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria. Smooth ride, ok food and drink, and plenty of seating. They pack the cars in so tight that it’s tough to get doors open enough to get out or in for some locations.
Easy to get to and from Victoria via the Coho Ferry. Ride was smooth and had a few options for food purchase. Plenty of room to find a decent seat. Cant beat the price if you walk on (vice bring a car). You can bring food just make sure its prepackaged! No fruits allowed
Just sat at water to eat lunch....I love the Black Ball Ferry and cant wait for it to start up again and take me home to Canada to visit.
Didnt hate it.....it wasnt in service that day! Just ate at smugglers & walked around the dock!
Very fun travel from port Angelas to Canada!
Great service and a wonderfully preserved and well kept boat launched in 1959. Some of the furniture and signage seemed to be original and so well kept it was stepping aboard a museum. We cleared Canadian customs after landing in Victoria and I think you clear US customs when you land in Port Angeles.
Its a convenient trip. Im a senior and theres no elevator, though they will help if you want a wheelchair. The cafe is really inadequate, mind you Im comparing this with BC Ferries, which provide better amenities. On the plus side there are lots of seats with tables and the crew are very kind and helpful.
Oh it is just fabulous. The border town of Port Angeles to the crown jewel Victoria, cross the whale breeding Salish Sea with the MV Coho today1
If your going between victoria and washington this is a super easy way to go. Cheaper than the clipper and you get to have your car. Very easy and comfortable ride.
Clean ferries. Helpful staff and very punctual on time. Have good waiting room. Loved the travel, duty free and cafeteria on board
All of the staff for Black Ball Ferry were exceptionally nice and informative. We took our Ford F250 Super Duty across with us. All of that was painless. We did run into a snafu at the Canadian side during our return to the US where the tape measure the attendant had was jammed. However, he was really friendly. After about 5 min of him working with it I asked to take a look and was able to unjam it*. Were 20 ft. give or take an inch. The ferry ride is fun and goes by pretty quick for a 90 min ride. They have a concession area where you can buy lunch. I forgot to ask my family how it all tasted, but it looked decent. Getting on and off the ferry was simple. I normally get nerve-wracked by those kind of things, but I was at ease the whole time. There was a question if we were going to make the ferry on our return from Canada as we made the time that didnt allow reservations. Most of the staff were pretty sure we would make it and we did. The customs from Canada to the US was really good. They took your information at the dock of the Canadian side and you show your passport(s) to US Immigration there as well. Once on the US side you pretty much wave and head on out.*Im actually really good at untying knots. Tying them? Not so much. Whats one of your hidden talents?
Super comfy with a tiny but good store. Cafe and food are available. Book your tickets in advanced if you are going with a car or a campervan!
Beautiful views of the harbor from the ferry, takes you right into the priest part of the city. Older ferry system, but comfortable, scenic ride!
Great enjoyable ride. Hare to find a seat, they fill up fast when you are a drive on passenger. Walk on passengers take all the good ones so your left with sitting in the eatery or in the middle of the ferry which isnt that comfortable.
Beautiful trip to Canada smooth sailing. Friendly staff, They have a souvenir shop and a coffee shop where you can get drinks and sandwiches. A 45 minutes ride make sure you bring your passport or enhanced driving license. The ferry is not running now due to Covid-19 I believe it will return next year unless Canada and the US agree to open it up again. The ferry arrives right in downtown you can walk to all the shops. You can also take the double decker red bus the Hop on Hop off bus. It is not free you have to pay but you do get to see some beautiful sights and you can get off at any stops. It comes around every 45 minutes to pick you up from different places. If you want to spend the night my favorite is The Huntingdon Hotel walking distance and fair on price. On my last trip over we did see Otters in the water playing and a few whales. I live in Port Angeles and its a beautiful place in the summer. its small town with a lot of fun things to do. And dont forget the Olympic National Park you can go see and do some hiking. Enjoy........
First ferry Ive been on great veiw
I enjoy rising the ferry. The area around the ferry terminal has a museum and many restaurants to visit while you wait for boarding. The ferry itself it nice with comfortable seating and a good food selection.
Had a wonderful time at oily und the Victoria Harbar with all those nic places.
Pretty beautiful ferry ride but Id like to see a bigger gift shop area. Id also like to see some modern amenities like usb charging outlets next to most of the seats.
Simple boat, but the views are amazing!
Fun! Boat from 1959! Nice staff!
All went smoothly. I ended up where I needed to. I crossed from Victoria B.C. to Port Angeles WA. Border crossing went fine. Its not a streamlined ferry service. Directions are by word of mouth so you dont know what youre supposed to do until a staff member tells you. Ferry itself was decently clean but crammed. The decks are wonderful though. Spent most of the 2ish hour trip outside.
Took the ferry to Victoria. The ticket purchasing was easy and fast. The ride was smooth and enjoyable. Snacks for sale were of good variety and price. Seemed pricy but for once in a lifetime, I can let that go.
On time service between Port Angeles and Victoria. Plenty of seating, easy boarding, and normal amenities. Great for a weekend trip to Victoria, although you have to get to Port Angeles first. Pay parking around the Port Angeles terminal, or the Straight Shot bus/ferry will get you there from Seattle.
Stopped here to load up a few joules. Nice they installed a Clipper Creek charging station.
Great ferry. But I dont appreciate all the dogs on the public deck. Dogs barking. Two dogs got into a fight and one dog peed on the chair in front of us. I just think this has gone too far. There are people with allergies to animals and then there are truly people afraid of dogs. Keep your animals in your vehicles please.
A great way to travel from Port Angeles to Vancouver Island across the spectacular Strait of Juan de Fuca.Ship built in 1959. Very smooth.Victoria, port of call on Vancouver Island, is a wonderful city. One of my happy places. Feels like a trip to Europe but just a quick boat trip away!
Excellent staff, clean well maintained older vessel, built 1959. Walk on and cars available.
Fantastic trip to Vancouver Island and back with our camper. Found a nice place outside near the bow of the ferry to avoid the crowd and enjoy the trip.
Great Way to get to the Olympic Peninsula from Victoria. Had a Nice day for the crossing, and started heading south.
Enjoyed the smooth ride and the views seen from the ferry.
This is a great fairy service to shuttle you from the US to the Canadian side of the border. A nice ride and everything went smooth. Highly recommended
We simply watched the beautiful scenery, but there were many other great offerings also
Everything was so efficient! Perfect journey.
Professional car ferry service with beautiful views up top and great gift and snack shops inside.
This ferry is a lot slower than the Seattle-Bainbridge line. The staff are friendly and professional. My only disappointment is the scheduled time: only 8:20am & 2:00pm are available. I wish there were more options but Port Angeles is a small city & there may not be enough passengers. I took the latter to Victoria and had a great time...munching on fish & chips.
Quick and easy to Victoria inner harbor. Docked a block from our hotel and two blocks from Parliament. Really good on price.
Very organized boarding process. We followed the recommended check in time and arrived an hour before boarding at Port Angeles but saw lot of people were already there. We took the evening 05:30pm ferry. The boarding started exactly at 05:00 as it was mentioned on the website and ferry departed at exact 05:20.Ride is about one and a half hour long. De boarding took about 30 for all the cars to get out. Black Ball’s process was organized and staff was working hard to get people in and out as quickly as possible. So did the immigration officers. While on board they have restaurant and duty free shop running, there is plenty of indoor outdoor seating. It gets windy so bring some warm cloths with you. While coming back, US does a pre-immigration check at Victoria itself and that is why they recommend everyone to arrive 90minutes early. Overall I enjoyed the ride and the service.
Always a nice ride and friendly staff! And the foods not bad either.
Couldnt visit the ferry, but was looking nice
First time on a ferry and was amazing to see the amount of cars and trucks in it even a semi
Get you from A to B but not in style or comfort. The ferry is in need of interior updating. Seat are old and clunky and pretty uncomfortable. The heating at some tables become unbearable and adds to an uncomfratable journey. If you get see sick hen dont sit by a heater as this will make you even more Ill.Advice for your trip get on first and grab a table which looks best for you and your group.
We travel (walk on) this ferry every year for Crab Fest from Victoria to Port Angeles and back. Can be busy at times but thats expected. On our side (Victoria) the staff are dressed with crab hats, are extremely helpful and seem to enjoy their job. Staff on the ferry and off are pleasant. Clam chowder is a hit!
Fun place to explore with the kids!
A great ferry to and from Port Angeles, WA and Victoria, BC, Canada. Seating is comfortable and the snack bar had great snacks for the 90 minute trip each way
The ship (Coho) was nice, but somehow there was a wasp that stung my mother. The wait was also a little long, even though I arrived 15 minutes before my trip.
Awesome, easy and smooth. Bring your bike or walk. Great snack bar. Bring cash for parking in Port Angeles cause there are no cards taken.
Always a great experience! Very well organized, they have everything streamlined so it all runs very smoothly! Reserve your vehicle ahead of time online and its even easier!
The Coho has always been the big boat in the harbor. Easiest way to get to the States. An ocean cruise without hassle. Skiing at Hurricane Ridge that way. Butchart Gardens this way. Whales, seals, mountains.
Well run with great staff. Great organization getting cars on and off of the ferry.
Great experience! Greyhound bus drove right up on the ferry. It was cool to see Canada in the distance.
Port Angelas is beautiful mother nature has touched this part of the world with beautiful green trees, oceans and tiny little shops to eat or find unusual trinkets in..
Big, clean and family friendly ferry from USA to Victoria BC. The price is reasonable.
Outstanding service! Great experience and unforgettable memories
Really organized and simple, even with our 20ft camper trailer. Amenities were fine inside, a little outdated, but standing outside on the deck was fantastic.
Took the ferry from Victoria to Port Angeles at 4:00 PM. The customs procedure was simple and efficient. Good journey with amazing views of Mt Baker and Olympics.
Overall, a quick, efficient way to get from Port Angeles to Victoria, BC. The ferry and crew are efficient and professional. Had no issues loading and unloading my vehicleI onboard. And I enjoyed my cruise over and back. The gripes I have are that the quality of food served is quite poor, the overall price of the ferry (both for the trip and for what was sold onboard) were severely overpriced, and they pack your vehicle in like sardines, which made getting in and out almost impossible without high risk of dinging your car. At least on WDOT ferries, you’re afforded a little space so that you can open your door to slither out. Must be great to have a monopoly on that side of town.
As always I enjoy the ride on the Blackball Ferries beloved COHO. The only thing that I would suggest to make it better would be to have a change of menu once in awhile and replace some of the fast food options
Honestly, theres not much to say about a ferry dock, but the staff was friendly, I got on the boat easily, and the trip was great! Awesome view of the water as well, especially on a Sunday night.
High price but one of the best options to get between Washington and Victoria BC. Taking your car is a bit of a wait to load and unload but the process is easy and well guided by an experienced staff. The ship itself is clean and well maintained.
Great views crossing the Juan de Fuca Strait. Few snack items on board and a small gift shop.
Hands down the best ferry passage in WA State. Ferry is an old gal but very well maintained. Crew is professional and actual care about what they are doing. Just goes to show you what a private company can do and how much better a private run ferry line as a posed to a public ran ferry. Well done Black Ball Line. Still the best in these waters.
New years Eve and only a 30min wait time. Very well organized and fast. Plan to eat in Edmund than Kingston because there are more options there.
A hassle free way to cross the border. Old ferry, that is lovingly maintained by its crew.
Great food, great staff and close to the water
Enjoyed the lights as we neared Victoria. Empty streets when we got there. On the way back we got to enjoy a very beautiful sunset. Water got just a little ruff, but enjoyed every minute of it
Well it didnt sink and was fairly clean so I guess that is good for a ferry!
Always a pleasure to go to and from Victoria. Their vacation packages are a real good deal versus booking separately.
Nerve wracking. For the 7:30 pm sailing August 17, we were advised to arrive at exactly 2:55. We arrived at 2:40 and were told there is no standby place and that when a horn blows the first 20 vehicles would be boarded from the street. The blond, tallish security guy called it a free for all which he said he liked when I asked his advice on how to avoid a dangerous rush of hopeful drivers from 3 on-street parked positions. The phone agent was very helpful and the crew/staff a good experience.
I have a very pleasant round trip from Victoria to Port Angeles. Pet friendly. I took my three little ones with my all the time.
We thoroughly enjoyed the trip from Port Angeles, WA to Victoria British Columbia. The crew was nice and helpful.
They gave us a free ride over to Port Angeles on our way to California and they serve decent food on board.
My first experience driving my car on a ferry. Made easy with all the helpful direction they give you
Last place visited before moving back to Florida. Beautiful sight.
Great ferry service from Victoria to Port Angeles. My family used the ferry to get from Nanaimo to Portland and we used the Tsawassen Ferry on the way back. Very efficient and organized service. Reasonable and comparable rates to BC ferries. The amenities are not the same as BC ferries, the ferry is old and stuffy and the food is below average. Great service running on dated vessel.
