Tons of space, lots of good pups but not very well kept grass and you gotta bring your own baggies. If you have plastic bags youre looking to get rid of they have dispensers that are community stocked.
Great park.. Even though its in a tougher part of town. Lots of friendly people and dogs. Could use one or two more trash cans and another park bench or two. Overall a great time.. And the regulars seem pretty cool, even regulated an aggressive dog and owner. Closest to home and a surprise move place. Enter off seventh street just north of Indian school. Easy to miss the entrance.
Beautiful park in general. The dog park specifically is fairly well maintained with a ton of space for the dogs to meet and play with each other. Some people dont know the etiquette of only one dog in the caged/unleashing area so beware of that of your dog is excitable.
Lots of dogs playing together. Water fountains for dogs and humans. Beautiful views. Benches for humans.
Small Dog park area is nice. Spacious and green. Needs more seats/ benches. So far good responsible and friendly pet parents. The large Dog area, very big, not very green, most people bring their seating. Friendly pet parents but most leave dog poop so.... theres a bad fly problem and have stepped in poop while playing with my pet.I see the city workers doing there job .....come on people....pick up your Pets Poop. It gets disgusting. Im glad Hance opened back up.
Honestly worst part is usually the people, otherwise is a big park, separate small/big sections, and always maintained. They close from July to End of August though yet the park never had.much grass or looks like they really didnt anything those 6 weeks. I think its a safe enough area
Nice pups and humans nice to have a park that separates big/small dogs for the timid midsizers to not hide under the bench the whole time like a snail. Picnic table in the small dog pen AND shaded by trees in some spots.
Wide open space in both the big dog and small dog parks. Water is available as well as poop bags. The park has taken away all seating as a response to the pandemic. Both parks are kept clean by park maintenance.
This dog park is always populated. My dog enjoys this park alot.
I like this dog park 90% of the time, however, it seems to also be the place people bring their unsocialized dogs. Some dogs are not meant to be at a dog park. I’ve seen people with completely unsocialized dogs with a muzzle on, trying to attack other dogs while their owner sits in a lawn chair talking to their friends. I’ve seen people’s dog get in an actual dog fight and they don’t even leave afterwards. Never seen that at Hance dog park before.
Great park in a great location, although some dog owners who have under-socialized dogs continue to try to force their dogs to interact with others which just exacerbates their aggression.
This park is huge! To me anyway. I’m used to taking my dog to Granada, but when I saw that there was a dog park here, I chose to go there tonight. Unfortunately, my dog was double the size of all the large dogs in the large dog area. My dog is friendly and gets super excited at other dogs, but he lunges on the leash and it worries me. He isn’t used to other dogs and he’s always wagging his tail when he barks at other dogs then runs in circles around me all excitedly. I adopted him a month ago (he’s a German Shepherd), and they said he’s good with other dogs, but I didn’t want to risk another owner being frightened of him (so many are even when he’s just sitting!) There were TONS of dogs in the fenced off area. I was hoping we would be alone haha. I have no clue how to introduce him to other dogs when it’s so crowded. The trails were fine though. The creepy statues sitting down on the bench were not so fine. People were fishing too. It was neat! I’ll definitely go again, but until now, I’ll find a dog park with fewer people around to get him used to other dogs.
Nice people. Grass and trees. No water and no benches.
Great place for dogs and people. Kept well.
They a have a dog park for big dogs 50lbs and over and a little dog park thats 50lbs and less. Beautiful park.
It was a place I could relax and not be harassed.
This park has the potential to be one of the best parks in the valley, but the staff here do not maintain their park. This park also seems to have a huge homeless issue. Encanto Park should be your go to for Phoenix parks.
Great parke well kept up
Awesome facilities. Double gates to get in, and a doggie water fountain. There are usually some tennis balls around. I know I always bring one and I forget it there half the time. There is no regulator on dog behavior. Youre accountable for your dog. Some dogs have awesome social skills, some dogs are still learning. The more you bring em the better theyll get.My dog always is tuckered out after.
Great place to let your socialized dog have a good run and play date. They keep a clean safe environment for people and their dogs.
Lots of friendly people and nice dogs!
I visit the dog park frequently and appreciate the way the grounds/area is kept in great condition.
This park needs an agility course or something. Its just a big yard. Most of the people are nice though and the dogs play well. I take my 2 small and 1 large dog here and have not had any issues with fights.
Doesnt get any better than this for free! Separate off-leash areas for small and large dogs. Plenty of leash-on walking trails with nice views of downtown. Plenty of parking. The dog runs could use more lighting after dark. If you like to bring your dog after sunset, I highly suggest a light-up dog collar so that you can see where theyre at in the park.Best free dog park Ive been to. Just make sure you know how to handle the suicide lanes on 7th street before you drive over!!
Love watching the dogs play.
Good park. It does have a lot of dirt, but some grass.Margaret T. Hance Dog Park is all nice grass, but is just a bit smaller (not too small). They were closed on/off for maintenance, so I use Steele Indian Park as a backup.
Good park. Only one Ive been to so I have no frame of reference.
Dirty, not much grass. I find many homeless and people who refuse to control their aggressive dogs here.
Great dog park! Awesome place to bring my furry one
This park is really nice. The lagoon is pretty and the views are always nice.
Beautiful park with easy yo walk sidewalks. Some sports equipment and playground for kids. Lots of trees....with lots of wild green birds. Parrots ??? Two dog park areas, 1 for small and 1for large. Great stroll.
Nice dog park! LOTS of dogs. Around sunset there’s usually 30-40 dogs. Most are well behaved. You will never find a dog park free of any trouble makers or owners that don’t know much but hey. It’s all apart of doggie socialization. Just for the love of god people don’t stick your hands into a dog fight to try to break it up. If it’s really bad grab the dogs from the back legs and pull them apart. But usually the more we’ll behaved dogs will get in and break it up.
My favorite Pokemon go spot
I came here to let my dogs have some fun. Upon arrival I saw two dogs trying to fence fight with mine. My dogs are extremely well trained dogs and I would not risk coming here. If you have care for your dogs I’d skip this park. There are plenty of other dog parks that don’t have dogs who like to fence fight
It need a little bit more clean and keep the lights on during the night. Besides that it really good and fun for dogs.
People and dogs are mostly friendly. There are individuals who are dog park goers how’ve put a lot of effort to increase the quality of safety with regards to lighting at this park. The park is called the dust bowl because despite annual resurfacing, which is never done right also holds multiple events every year that destroys the grass, not to mention the park is a bowl that needs to be completely regraded then resurfaced.Expect to bath your dog.
My dog and mother in laws dogs loved it here. Our little dog Bruiser was hesitant at first but he slowly started playing with other dogs. Best place to take your dog and interact
I enjoyed the park pretty simple laid back you have your little dog areas and your bigger dog areas
This is one of my favorites, beautiful, and well taken care of. And the bathrooms are clean and almost always open.
This was my first time taking my dog he is a very active dog and humps everything that walks by. The owners and the dogs were very nice and no mean dogs were their great park!
Very nice place, with very nice and friendly dog owners. My dog and myself truly enjoys the dog Park
Nice convenient park but lots of homeless people. Dog park is dusty dirt and muddy. Friendly dog friends. Nice area to walk and run but only in daylight.
Nice separate big and small dog areas, nice it has a light so you can stay out a little longer when it starts getting dark. Cons: no water bowls, only a fountain that dogs could never reach..(bring your own bowl!)
Small Dog Park :North of Large Dog Park.I suggest to park on the east side of the park (its closer to the dog parks) compared to the west side (or Main) parking lot.Tons of space for dogs to play catch as its long. The park is wider at its east side and tapers down towards the west side.Never had an issue at this small dog park. Not so much green lush grass. Better than big dog park.Large Dog Park:Just south of small dog park. This park is a big square. Perfect for playing catch and minding your own business.Ive seen too many stupid dog owners that let dogs scuffle. So be aware.
First time at this park and I was super impressed. My dog had a blast in the dog park section. Its huge! With water fountains for the pups, a couple benches and some trees for shade. Plus the park itself is large and there seemed to be some event being built. Ill be visiting again soon.
Amazing for dogs. The park is also lot at night. Lots of dogs there. There are two dog parks, one for big dogs and the other for the ones below 20lbs.
This is a very nice dog park, centrally located in the heart of Phoenix. There are two separate areas, one for small dogs and one for large dogs. You have different groups of people that come in, regulars versus sporadic visitors. The smaller dog park isn’t well kept up as well as it should be, people don’t pick up the dog poo. When you walk in the gate, the dogs are playing on the radio inside, and all of the poo seems to pile up on the left side. I like taking my dog to the large dog area. There is a group of huskies that come in on a regular basis and they usually get the dogs wound up to play and run around. And that’s what I take my dog there for, so that he can interact with other dogs and run around. In the little dog area, they don’t seem as playful, there are some smaller aggressive breeds, and the people don’t seem as nice. In the larger dog area, the people are super friendly and the dogs seem more playful there. Highly recommended. I just wish that people would pick up after their dogs.
I go different times of the day. Different crowds. Both so wonderful. My doggie I adopted from Maricopa county animal control shelter loves it here. Very well socialized dogs and the owners pretty well mannered them selfs.(lol jk) My dog was abused from a male owner previously so she is a little reactive towards men. All the men there are very patient with her and are all helpful and slow to say hi. She is doing better every time we go. The only thing I wish is for some of the owners to not be to clingy to there dogs. It stops them from socializing and learning how to be a dog. Remember a happy dog is a well socialized dog. Thank you every one at the park.
Dog park was nice. My dog has a great time.
Not my favorite dog park. Its very small and not very well kept up. The dog owners dont really seem to pay attention.
This is storic Park is thats really located right off the Indian School Road lot of history and well maintained by the city this is a really cool Park
We came for a special event. It was dark by the time we got there but the event was first class!
Muddy... lots of big mud puddles. Upside we had the place to ourselves.
Beautiful, lots of trees, shade, duck pond, fishing
Ive been to Steele Indian School Park on more than one occasion. A little over a month ago I got off the light rail and decided to take a look at the historic buildings and grounds of the old school campus. I was fascinated by the visually pleasing, and aesthetically calming water features all around the walkways and gardens. The recently renovated plaques and signage was extremely informative and detailed. I personally had not realized the full scope of the schools curriculum, nor the impact it had historically, on the city of Phoenix in general. Afterward I was extremely glad that I had spent the time to visit this unique place. I have the fervent hope that many more Phonecians, and all people would take the short time involved in learning of this unique place, and the heritage it brings to all of us.
This dog park is not very well kept up. The trash cans a lot of times reek of feces. There are huge patches that have no grass so when wet it becomes a muddy mess.
Its a solid park. I wish the areas were bigger and there were more garbage cans to throw away doggie business like other parks in the valley. Its also not well lit at all during the night hours. It does the job though!
Its an awesome park. Just wish the entrances were all connected instead of have to enter and exit on specific streets.
Pretty awesome here
Park could be better but people are really nice. The park is good size but there is not enough grass (gets very muddy when it rains,) it has very few lights so it gets pretty dark, and there is only one table. However there is always nice people there. From all the dog parks Ive been to (about 4 on a regular basis) this has the friendliest people; Im fairly shy but I always strike a conversation with someone there. Its a very diverse crowd. And yes dogs some times get into fights which can be scary but it happens in all parks Ive been to.TIP: The entrance to the parking lot next to the dog park is on 7th street, between the school and the VA hospital.
Safe, clean, 2 dog parks, family oriented, centrally located, ample parking space. Lots of activities during the year.
Kinda small area for small pups. Better for large breeds.
They had the highland games there and it was pretty fun
Phoenix had a ball! Area nice, dogs all well behaved! I recomend!!!
Great facility and wonderful dog people. Only issue is the entrance from 7th street is a bit difficult to find.
Great dog park! Separate areas for large and small dogs. Plenty of room for the dogs to run around.
Nice small park with super nice people there.
I love this park & visit every time Im in town.
Large dog park, but the have trouble keeping the grass in tact. The hard dirt patches has torn my dog paws multiple times.
Closed July 3rd to August 29th 2020 for turf repair
Great place to see dogs ducks time to relax and or fish highly recommended
Clean and friendly dog lovers. Two different areas. One for dogs over 20lbs and one for under 20lbs. Also has a dog and person drinking fountain. Suggested to keep your dog on the leash. But no one does witch is awesome. Your dog can get their full work out running free.
Had to pull security for the Cardi B concert.... Very nice park
Friendly people, dogs are well behaved, there is a patch of grass and there is also dirt. The fences are closed, there is no water inside the park but there is the park area.
Its a pretty park. Great for a family party or something big with a group. There is a lot of open space and grills with picnic tables. Lots of birds / ducks though, so lots of poop
Great place to take your favorite pops
Park is nice and clean, as are the restrooms. A few less fortunate around, but no one bothers you.Used the Small Dog park. Lots of shade, to keep cool. Seating for parents.
Not my favorite dog park. Its very crowded and the big dog area is muddy.
Its ok. There are patches that turn into a bit of a mud pit. Its isnt well lit at night. Its a bit lacking on trash cans
A great place to relax and release your stress!!
Plenty of space for your dogs. This place gives me a peace of mind and my babies too. I love bringing my puppies here and everyone is friendly no matter what color you are. Sunch a tranquil place. It puts you in a relaxed mood too.
It was fun and very expansive. This time I went during Phoenix Pride but it is really peaceful and pretty by itself.
Great place. Lots of dogs. Pretty popular and busy on Saturday mornings.
Usually its nice here. There are many regulars and their dogs, all pretty friendly. Occasionally, as in today, there are people who dont monitor their dogs and their behaviors that make it less pleasant than usual. My dog, Cookie has many dog friends that she has a great time running and playing with.
Ignorant and inexperienced dog owners. My dog was attacked the first time we came and was being drug by her face by the other dog. I had to run over to physically separate them. The other owner didn’t even attempt to control her dog Juno or pull her off my dog, besides screaming her name (which the dog completely ignored) didn’t ask if my dog was okay and didn’t even apologize. The only response she gave to me was that she “didn’t want to hear anything bad about her dog.” I will only bring my dog around people who know their dogs, have control of them and who own their dog’s poor behavior/lack of ability to control them. This wasn’t a breed issue, it was an owner issue... and the most dangerous part is she had no desire to learn, apologize and/or do better in the future. Her dog Juno is a liability and risk to any dog she interacts with if she cannot learn to control her and teach her basic obedience. No human or dog is perfect, but not owning responsibility for your dog’s actions is a no go for me, especially when they turn playing into aggression and you do nothing to stop it.
Large area for large dogs to run around in. A bit under kept but still a good spot to take my pup
I really love this park I live across the street I have been telling you for years. You have a nice Lake where you can fish and just relax. The area is always clean safe. Some people have family reunions and other events with music Whitby is cool with me because its so big you can just go to another area .
* I heard they closed for repair from July 25 and will reopen this September (2019).*My puppy was happy and everyones doggie was happy. It was my first time there with her and I was anxious. Even caught myself with that one. But the awrsome owners there welcome my pup and I and help me to be at ease. She found a little friend who had the same energy level as her. (Think 10 children on a box full of candy). I was will look happy for her and her puppy mate. Those two were like bullets back and forth and they both engaged the other dog, but eventually they returned to playing doggie tag.It has a cute little water fountain for the doggies, which theyll need after all the running they do. Most owners are seem to know eacg other and were welcoming. There is a tall guy that goes there with 2 bigger dogs who are like two big babies and very well trained. They are so precious and their owner is one that truly loves and know how to communicate with dogs. The only downside to it is that the park was missing some patchea of grass, but I believe that is one of the things they they will fix during its construction.I strong reco.mend this place .
Not the best after it rains, as the field is flooded. There are negligent people who bring aggressive dogs, so you may need to be ready for that. Good size area and there are some quality people who bring their pets, but it’s up to you if you want to deal with the knuckleheads, and the possibility you may need to put a dog down for attacking you or your dog.
