This is such a great hidden gem. We had never been to South mountain and Im so glad we choose this trail as our first. We started at 5:15am and the cool shade was fantastic. We hiked up to the natural tunnel, then through the hidden valley, and out (around) fat mans pass. We had such an amazing time. There are mountain bikers, which weve never encountered before while hiking. But everyone was super respectful. We cant wait to go back!

This trail is wonderful. It is also pretty difficult, especially if it is hot out. Make sure to take plenty of water (Id advise taking two bottles) and wear sturdy shoes, as the trail is quite rocky. The views are beautiful, and during the week the trail isnt crowded.

This is a steep uphill climb for the first mile. A nice workout if your capable of it. Nice views if your only planning on going part way up. Bring plenty of water, at least 1 liter per hour per person in the summer.

Honestly this has to be one of my favorite trails, I like to go quite often... Its beautiful and too me, with a zoo like feel at parts. I have seen coyotes and pups come out and start howling. I have encountered some rattlesnakes on this trail twice but none as of lately. This trail also takes you to Hidden Tunnel and FatBoy entry which is well worth the walk all the way pass the top.. I recommend rock jumping if you make it back by the tunnel. Its fun. Moromon Trail is a great trail that leads to options to explore. Most of the time the people are nice on this trail. It has been kind of crowded as lately. But get to it and dont forget the water.

A mixture of intermediate and hard for this trail. During summer, go before the sun is up, as it gets extremely hot! Take more than enough water. I did Hidden Valley via Mormon Trail, which is a little under 3.8 miles RT. You get to Fat Man’s Pass and—of course, hidden valley caves. This is a great hike in escalation, as you get sunrise views and a glimpse of Four Peaks. Officially, one of my favorites.IG @ hikingthisplanet

Fun, 3ish mile hike. Id say its easy-moderate. Views north if downtown phx, caves, rock slides, and rolling terrain. Popular hike amongst locals and visitors. Less traffic and way easier than the popular Camelback Mountain. A lot of trail extensions for mountain biking too.

What a great trailhead! I love in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, and I was excited to see such a well maintained park, with so many different paths to take. The view of the city makes it difficult to get lost, but you can lose yourself in the twisting trails, surrounded by huge saguaro cactus, wildlife, rocks and the occasional snake and scorpion . Leave those alone! Ha. Enjoy this great gem if a spot. Oh, I did a night hike, which completely changes the scenery!!

About 630ft elevation gain the first mile. After that its pretty mild. Been here multiple times for challenging runs and hikes to really get my heart rate up. There can be, in my opinion, too many ppl at times, so i dont do this hike to get away, mostly just for the good exercise aspect.

Yo i got lost twice. Goal was to loop around Fatmans pass.. You get to a deadend looking rock formation with dumb graffiti on the right.. but you have to scale that and keep going that way!!It was a great hike regardless! I found myself on national when I got lost and it was nice anyway.Once I found mormon trail again, I finished the loop easily. Easy hike if you stay on trail.

Very nice trail, doesnt take to long, isnt easy but not hard so good for several skill levels, a smaller oarming lot but easy street parking unlike several other trail heads on this side of the mountain. A very scenic hike going up and at the top, and coming down is always alittle easier, be safe and enjoy!

Did the Hidden Valley Trail via Mormon Trail.Pleasantly surprised at this trail. A bit on the easy side but beautiful scenery the entire time. I recommend doing the loop portion of the trail counter clockwise. There are a few portions of the trail where the rock is very slick, but nothing too crazy. Highly recommend.

Moderate hike; more endurance than technical. Recommend the tunnel loop to Fat Man Pass - but if you take that route, be advised that the trail picks up again to the right after the pass, up a slight rise.Bring water and your camera!

Great little hike (2.4 miles round trip & 700 feet of incline) that if willing can become a great big hike. There are tons of options at the top including the Mormon loop (5 miles). If youre in great hiking shape, under 25 minutes to the top. For your average hiker about twice as long. My personal best at just under 20 minutes. One of the easiest hikes to get a nice view. No need to go to the top for fantastic views..

My family loves this hiking trail! It is easy with a bench located about half way up alongside a road, so a great area to rest if needed. The best part is getting to the sanctuary and see the little mountain squirrels that will come right up near you. We left peanuts out and they would run up to grab one and run away, it kept our attention for a long time. I also like the direction of this path winds up the mountain so the scenery twists and turns in many different directions. Please consider carpooling to hiking areas, always bring plenty of water, lock your car, and please please do not litter. I always see empty bottles along the local trails and its really a shame to see this in nature.
