Bartram garden is the most amazing place ever I mean this place is incredible. The flowers are incredible there’s like thousands of different kinds. You can spend days here and I see all of it. It’s connected to the trails is connected to bike trails there’s always families here in advance. There’s tons of space really cool old buildings that sprawl throughout the facilities they’ve also updated a lot of the trail area so I made a really cool updates everything. This is definitely a great place to chill and I would definitely recommend it to anybody that was stopping through Philly or has been here the whole life. This is a historical space but you can find throughout history as it was used in the colonial a John has a place to invite embassies and diplomats to come see the United States. Many of the gardens are designed based off of different plants from all over the world

Such a beautiful relaxing place! Worth the out-of-the-way trek to get there. Acres of green land along the Schuylkill to hike and admire. We were there today to help make wreaths for their Christmas sale, but they have a lot of fun activities year round (in non - pandemic times of course), like maker classes, boat rentals, tours.

I had such an enjoyable visit exploring Bartram Gardens. Initially I arranged to participate in a demo of Art in the Meadow (an installation art project scheduled for completion in 2021). I then spent time wandering the grounds. The gardens are absolutely beautiful! There is a wide variety of plants, flowers, and trees. Bartram is really an interesting location. There are acres of natural space which accesses the Schuylkill River, the location is adjacent to an urban neighborhood and all of it is within view of the Philadelphia skyline.

Im really sad that this oasis is being trashed by some reviewers. No, it isnt in the greatest neighborhood, but stop calling peoples homes the hood, the ghetto, and trash. Have some civility! The gardens are absolutely lovely - even in the fall. The young woman at the welcome center was so nice and so helpful and so vibrant that she really surprised me. We walked to nearly 300 year old apple cider press and we were so taken with it that we stayed there and imagined what it would have been like to have experienced the process. We enjoyed speaking with a volunteer about the community farm and its good works. What an incredible experience for young people to have in an urban setting! Finally, we visited the event tent and pictured how beautiful a wedding or special event could be there. You can see pictures on the website. I really loved the fallen column bench outside the tent b/c it was such a lovely idea.People talking about refunds? Refund for what? The garden admission is free and no donations were requested. It seems to me that a National Historic Landmark like this one should be cherished, not chastised. My family loved it!

Absolute gem of a garden space. It’s a great escape right in the city and the gardens actually grow food which is distributed in the community.

I loved the Garden and the Garden Trail.Im not too crazy about the paved trail at 2 different spots in the trail I came across breaks showing that there are different ways in and out of the trail wish didnt feel very safe and secure in my opinion. Definitely wouldnt walk the paved trail alone because of this.Plus points... Both trails are easy to walk and they offer some great views.Plenty of spots to have a picnic or just sit and take in the beautiful atmosphere. There is even a small play area for he kids. The staff and other visitors all seem nice and friendly. Will mark this as a favorite and will definitely be back.

Really beautiful and secluded place to chill, fish, and launch your kayak or sup. I brought my standup paddle board here to learn how to use it in a less populated space. The only downside is the long walk from parking to the waterfront. The way in is downhill and so youre going uphill on the way out. If youre carrying a kayak or sup you may want some kind of wheels because after paddling you may find it tiring to walk back to your car because the path is fully exposed to the sun. This spot feels like a getaway from the city, but the view of whatever industrial stuff is across the water is a little blah. I imagine when things are up and running normally this is a great place to hangout and borrow one of their boats since they have a dock and free boating available.

I lived next to this garden/park all my life and Ill tell you what...this is a hidden gem in the community. It offers such a diverse array of activities from a basic stroll to a full fledge wedding. The possibilities are endless. I remember when there also used to be a tennis court and a baseball field but, the turned those into gardens, so thats not that bad. The only regret I have is that more people dont take advantage of its beauty

This is my haven within the bustling city of Philadelphia. I read once that if you identify as an empath and you live in or are visiting a big city, the first thing you do should be to find a park or nature reserve. So, I found Bartram’s and immediately knew it was a place I could return to when I was seeking feelings of safety, calm, and clarity. I am forever grateful to those who have made and continue to make this gem of a garden accessible and beautiful.

Absolutely gorgeous gardens. Beautiful for the wedding me and my wife attended. This oasis of quiet fields and modest 18th-century farm buildings is where gardening first took root in America. Today at Bartram’s Garden, visitors can go bird watching, catch a breeze along the River Trail, stroll through the fragrant flower gardens, or visit the riverside meadow, which brims with grasses and wildflowers. With its riverfront location and beautiful view of the Philadelphia skyline, Bartram’s Garden also appeals to more active visitors. The dock, with access to the lower Schuylkill River, is a popular put-in for boats.

We visited in late summer of 2006 and need to return in the springtime. For us it was a bus ride to get there and a storm greeted our departure. It felt like a lonely place at the time of our visit, Bartrams spirit had long departed, perhaps it returns in spring. I return to my copy of The Travels of William Bartram when necessary. I hope the area surrounding the gardens has gotten better since we visited.

Did you know that this is the oldest arboretum in the United States as well as the first? Neither did I until I showed up. This place is a hidden gem and doesn’t show up on most lists of touristy things to do in Philadelphia. However if you love nature and enjoy the outdoors, this is a great place to walk or look around. The plants are labeled with both the scientific names as well as the common names, and the property was founded by a botanist to bought the land back in 1729.

What a magical day my husband and I had! This park is beautiful and kayaking/boat paddling was free when we went on Saturday! I feel like this park is a secret though; we had to really search around to hear about it and it was kind of hidden. It reminded me of s secret garden, and its the perfect free date! There was a man selling the best water ice by the kayaks and it was the most refreshing treat on that hot sunny day!

Not a traditional botanical garden... basically a giant farm/ plot of land that you can walk around. Bertram is apparently someone who knew Benjamin Franklin. Nice for a walk or Pokemon hunting though. got a few cute pictures. can see the philly skyline from here. recommend if youre in the area and havent been. dont recommend for an out of state trip. entry is free.

My brother got married here and it was truly the most beautiful wedding I’ve ever been to. Now, clearly I’m biased, however the grounds were just exceptional and unique. Easy for family traveling out of town to catch an Uber to and from the venue. Incredible service, perfect views for pictures and an all around scenic atmosphere that is a complete hidden gem! I can’t speak to the price, but as a guest of the wedding and a member of the wedding party it was absolutely magnificent.

A friend wanted to go to the Bartram plant sale, which offered very interesting ornamental shrubs, perennials and annuals.A really good selection of native plants were offered. However, the event was much more than just a plant sale. They had food trucks and a beer tents, and of course a wonderful area to picnic. Local honey and crafts were for sale as well. There was free kayaking or row boating on the river.Besides all of this, the Gardens are wonderful, having very old specimen trees which are old and stately, perennial and annual areas throughout the formal and trail areas of the Garden.A great place to hike, stroll, study, read and enjoy the outdoor surroundings.I wont miss their plant sale in the future, But also, I wont wait until then to visit again.A great destination for peace in the city.
