This was our favorite stop while visiting family in the area! It such a small area but really great shops. We loved the general store and found great little gifts for everyone there. Gruene Hall is like stepping back into time. So much history, music enthusiasts dream. They do still have concerts there and sell beer! Check their website!
Nice old town feeling lots of shopping.
Gruene (pronounced green) is a lovely, old German town located on the banks of the Guadalupe River and just west of New Braunfels. Very small but quaint with shops and eateries. Plenty to do in and around the area including tubing down the lazy Guadalupe. The worlds largest Buccees is also minutes away. Gruene also has evening activities. San Antonio is 30-45 minutes to the South and Austin about 45 mins. to an hour north.
Too too too expensive but really friendly
Very interesting and fun place with history and live music combined with good restaurants and lots of great shopping for everything from icecream cones and fishing gear to high quality original art work to enjoy during your wine tasting.
History, authenticity, happiness and entertainment... you can find a lot of things here. I am very happy to be in
I enjoy the historical look and feeling. Some stores sell the hard to find novelty and antique items. Other shops are available. There are a few smaller eatery this and then you have the Gristmill, which had nice atmosphere and a good selection to choose from the menu. The dance hall plays is another place to enjoy having while having your favorite beverage and listening to talented musicians.
Interesting place to visit, not a lot there to see and do, but the restaurant at the water tower was fantastic, lunch on the patio, overlooking the tubers floating down the river while eating a great lunch from a very interesting menu. This is a must while at Gruene Historic District.
Neat place to stop and shop. It kinda brings you back to a different time. The antique shop and the general store are neat and having a cold one in the dance hall was cool.
This is a quaint town that always has the neatest things to explore. Its perfect for family visits, but I also recommend adult only trips so you can check out the night life and do wine tours.
It is a beautiful small town nestled within a larger city. Many historical markers and buildings for history buffs. Great food and shopping all in about a 5 block radius and plenty of parking. Makes for a wonderful day of shopping without getting too tired. I went with a group of retirees of differing abilities and all had a good day. Only problem was that many shops have stairs and no known alternate entrances.
Nice little town. Great food and plenty of different shops to go into!
Great place to go! Lots of history, not to mention the oldest, and best dance hall in Texas. Lots of great shows there! Lots of shopping, fun places to check out, and great places to eat.
Great place to spend a day walking the shops, checking out the river and having a great meal! Cant wait to come back in the summer months to go tubing!
This area is awesome with great shopping and old style bar at the Gruene dance hall where we enjoyed live music. Old time atmosphere. Im not a shopper but anything that makes my wife happy from that standpoint is wonderful. Shops that you dont always see. Stop in the candy store for free samples too.
Quaint, take away the cars and light poles, and you would swear you were in the 1800s, well worth the time to visit. If you go, go to the Grist Mill to eat, you can get a table to view the Guadeloupe River.
My wife and I spent some time in Gruene after booking a nearby B&B. Really fun place with a lot of shops and restaurants to check out. Spent way more time here than I thought we would have originally. Will definitely come back here.
Really cute little downtown. Lots of small stores w/unique finds.
Historical district of shops in downtown area is nice but probably wont mean much unless you go to the Conservation Center first, 1300 S. Church Hill, and see their short film on the history of the settlers first. Lovely old homes to go thru there too, our favorite over the shops. Just down from there, heading back to the town of Gruene is the Museum of Historical Furniture with 2 more fascinating houses, my favorite, the cabin, a crude pioneer dwelling with a vestibule or dog run as sometimes called, connecting its two tiny rooms. It is set just right to catch cool breezes even during the areas often blistering hot humid summers. One of main reasons we returned here was to study the direction of this little buildings breezeway before building our own country home. Honestly, it almost feels air-conditioned.Only drawback, shops are.pretty pricey.
Fun place to shop, and stroll. As well as the dance hall that is great to hear music and people watch.
Fun little area tucked away from hustle and bustle of New Braunfels. Very historic and quaint. Lots of interesting shops.
Here for a short time a couple of days. Cute little town with lots of unique shops and great food at The Gristmill. We will be back!
Great historical area with live music at Gruene Hall, a must for history bluffs and music lovers.
Love going to Gruene to eat and/or listen to music. There are many great restaurants including the Gristmill and Gruene River Grill. Love to listen to the music at Gruene Hall. Omas Secret Garden is also nice to sit and listen to music...
Great atmosphere good place to shop plenty of parking.
Fun place to take out of town visitors. Be sure to eat at Gruene River Grill, and pick up some homemade fudge at the General Store.
This is a great little area to walk around and explore the shops. There are some really good restaurants in this area, one of my favorites is Adobe Verde. You can enjoy some wine tasting from relatively local vineyards and theres always Gruene Hall to catch some live music. It can be busy at times, especially on weekends with market days.
Great town to visit, nice shops and good BBQ from Blacks just
I really enjoyed visiting Gruene. Nice shops and liked the open market on the weekend.
Lots of fun to visit for a great little tourist area.
A Texas river town and its historic district made up of a few old buildings and a mill. If Texas river culture and people are your jam, this place is lit.
Very historical area worth a visit. If you want to see what life in this part of Texas was like in the last part of the 19th century you will find some great examples here. Unfortunately it can be very crowded at times. So you may want to avoid weekends or holidays if possible to enjoy your experience a bit more.
Great place to get a feel of old town Texas.
Cute little town for a weekend getaway with family and friends.
A historic small town thats been turned into an interesting and cute bed-and-breakfast support system, with Gruene Hall for the occasional concert or event.
Excellent assortment of eateries and shops. Something for everyone.
Great place, dont forget to stop by the river
Nice spot to speed time with the family and friends
Beautiful and fun! Would love to go back and experience the night entertainment at the Dance Hall. The choice of restaurants looks good, also. Worth the trip!
