GO visit during Covid! They are doing so much to manage risk and clean-- I was completely at ease! It was interactive and enlightening. Very well done and inexpensive. My husband and I had a personally guided tour from Khaela and she was perfect! She let us spend time on the things that interested us and even managed to make the things that we werent interested in interesting! She took us through the place like a champ and knew so much history and facts-- it was a blast. We loved it and definitely recommend it.
What an incredible find! We decided to visit here during a cooler day on our beach vacation. Although they were only offering guided tours, the facility was interactive and interesting. There were many displays to interact with, including neat ones on how a propellor works, nautical flags, and remote-controlled barges! My 3 and 5 year olds were entertained the whole time and so was I! I highly-recommend for any one of any age thats interested in learning more about nautical affairs.
This is a very informative museum. Our tour guide was very friendly and made our visit very special. I wish we had more time to enjoy the exhibits, but we will return.
This is an excellent interactive museum for both children and adults. It explains the many things that go on in the Gulf from weather patterns and how hurricanes develop to historical figures and events.Make sure to allot at least two hours. It also has a great deck to take pictures of the Mobile skyline.
Great place to take the family. Theres a lot of things to do even with the pandemic going on. Great to see what part Mobile played in WWII. The kids love the hands on displays. I look forward to going back.
Really interesting museum. The staff is excellent. Parts are closed due to covid, but we still think the ticket price was worth it. We loved the interactive videos and especially the boat simulator. Only downside, we wish that the RC boats worked. 3/4 were broken.
Great. so much information. would recommend to see
So much fun for all ages! Very interactive and informative. Cassandra at the gift shop was so sweet and a pleasure to deal with. Highly recommended!!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Hands on fun for kids and adults!I was very impressed with this museum and they had a special now for free entrance for kids with All As and Bs report cards. There are many, many hands on activities to learn about navigation, watercraft, shipping, cargo etc. We spent about 3.5 hours there but didnt watch the movie on the main level. My son has even put to use his astronomy navigation skills since we left!
This museum is really cool. Free parking and just off I10. Very easy to get to. There is a replicated ship built inside the building and you explore each deck ( 1-5). Extremely kid focused. Most of the activities are for those under 10, but still a fun time. There were several school groups at the museum when we went which impacted our experience. Observation deck on the top floor with gorgeous views.
A perfect activity for any day of the week....A very clean, well organized exhibits, & great information about life on the Gulf coast....Historical perspectives, local maritime industries are also represented. MMy kiddos are 10 & 12-the Museum kept them busy & engaged for 4 hours....We even had lunch, while visiting...Great family value!
There are SO many ways to learn about the working of a cargo ship from the past to today. Its a bit pricey but we spent a good 3-4 hours there and the kids didnt try everything!
Really impressive museum with lots of interactive displays and information that is interesting both for adults and for children. The museum is worth visiting just to see the aesthetics of the massive central platform, which is shaped like a container ship. My wife and I enjoyed the remote-control sailboat and the submarine sim. There were some neat displays on area history and nautical technology. The professional-grade ship simulator at the highest level was a suitably cool way to end our visit. The only disappointment was that the remote-control harbor exhibit (model ships in a pool that you are supposed to be able to control) were all broken. Still, definitely worth the $15-16 admission.
While visiting in Pensacola, I decided to take a drive to Mobile and take in the GulfQuest maritime museum. This museum highlights the history and importance of maritime commerce. Admission is $16 for adults, $15 for senior/active military/student and $13 for children 5-17; children under 5 free. The museum has many interactive exhibits. Unlike some museums, almost all these exhibits were in working order. The museum is laid out like container cargo ship. It has 5 levels with different themes for each level. Among the topics covered are navigation, propulsion, design, ship operation, planet/weather and history among others. On the fifth level, you can go outside and observe the actual maritime commerce taking place in the Mobile area. One of the neat things the museum provides are the “Seagoing Slang” placards which describe the origins of many common figures of speech. If you have an interest in maritime commerce – its history and import – then you’ll want to visit the GulfQuest maritime museum.
High quality exhibits, with fun experiences like remote control model barges and an immersive boat simulator. Small guided tours during COVID was a nice way to see the museum, but will definitely be back when more hands on kids exhibits are open.
Very nice museum. Lots of interactions and information about marine life and the way it has shapes our world. Good for all ages!
Nice family spot. Really enjoyed the boat simulation on the top floor. The young lady was very pleasant and atrentive. The view is beautiful
My husband and I really enjoyed our visit. I loved talking with the sweet lady working in the gift shop.
My daughter (10) had a good time here and so did we. It has some nice interactive exhibits with lots of info on shipping and boating. 5th floor nave some nice views of the river and downtown Mobile, along with a really nice simulator with a few different captain scenarios to navigate. We spent nearly 2 hours here.
Nice nautical museum. The Nina and Pinta were in port. Museum is a little hard to get to.
Great museum. Make sure on fifth floor that you walk out on balcony and look at navy ships getting built. Also on floor teo the welcome movie talking about gulf coast is a nice kick off
Very friendly staff, a place for family to visit and educational.
We enjoyed the museum very much. Lots to see and do. Well be back some day.
Great place, lots to see and do. Had quite a few interactive displays and learned a lot about the Bay. Wheelchair access with ramps to all exhibits. Plan to spend a minimum of 3 hours, and that would be moving on thru. The simulator was the best, hang on!!
We took our kids (4 & 10) and both of them - as well as us parents - had an awesome time! The exhibits are all interactive, hands-on, educational, and entertaining. We only had about 2 hours to explore before they closed. We did get to see almost everything but we had to rush some stuff and skip a few things. I recommend at least 3 hours so you can really enjoy every bit of the museum. The staff were all nice, knowledgeable, and more than accommodating. The price was probably below average for a museum of its kind. We paid $45 for the whole family (5 and under is free).
Such fun! Interactive, so you can really experience it!
This is an amazing place, I was there for a private birthday party the view was Awesome! I had so much fun
Excellent interactive displays, well informed docents and powerful information. Well worth the visit.
Fantastic addition to Mobile and to museum offerings. Beautifully put together. Water inside is very clever. Fascinating huge map wall w/interactive panel from the ship balcony allows you to choose which global trade routes throughout time to light up. So many nooks and crannies and things to explore, must go back for more. Great photo opp at top outside like youre in a crows nest. July 4 closing too early at 7 though. Needs to extend until the fireworks at 9. Mobilians need to get in there and support this place! Monumental achievement to treasure.
I have been here on two seperate occasions. My first trip here was on a field trip with my daughters class and the exhibit was very educational. There are multiple floors of activities for the children to enjoy. Also, there are activities for all ages so no matter what age children you bring there is something for everyone. My second trip here was to meet the Distinguished Young Women contestants. GulfQuest has a very nice amphitheater outside where the ladies were introduced. The seating is concrete so you will need to bring a stadium seat if you will be here for any length of time. There is a nice stage area and then behind the stage you look upon Mobile Bay.I would recommend visiting GulfQuest to anyone who is coming to visit Mobile, AL as a must see attraction and to locals who have not gone yet, What are you waiting for?
Really nice staff, self paced displays with lots of interaction. Something for all ages. Food was really good deal and delicious. Has cool simulator in level 5, pilot different boats in different situations.
Oh my, where to start? This is the absolute best museum Ive ever seen and Ive been to many over the years! Im a firm believer that people, especially children, learn and retain more knowledge by physical learning than by just watching and/or reading. Gulf Quest absolutely nails it and really gets how to reach people. The entire museum is interactive--wow, just wow!! Physically learning how to operate old navigation equipment, to how sailboats work, how to operate port equipment, to learning how we impact the Gulf--every aspect of The Gulf and the maritime surrounding it is covered. We were so immersed that we lost track of time and stayed there almost 6½ hours! This is one of the best non-beach activities on the Gulf, so highly recommend you dont miss this gem!!
Loved it. Took out of town relatives and they loved it. Very cool.
I enjoy GulfQuest a lot, clean, modern, educational and very interesting. It has local history along with a lot of maritime facts and information and interactive displays. There is also a nice little gift shop as well as a snack shop that serves sandwiches, drinks etc. An overall very pleasant experience.
Very interactive and entertaining. Lots a small, quick exhibits that are good for multiple ages. Very technologically centered, but in an easily accessable way. Well worth it!
Fun place to learn about our maritime history.
Good place to take the kids. You can easily spend a few hours here. It has a lot of interactive features it not a lot for very small children.
My first impression was this place is huge. Its a lifesize replica of a container ship and it has over 90,000 square feet of displays, a theater, exhibits, many hands-on exhibits, simulators, and great views of the Mobile River and Port of Mobile from the outside decks. You have your choice of using steps or ramps to get you to the different floors and since the exhibits are very well spaced its perfect for someone in a wheelchair. You pay your admission in the gift shop.We did not watch the movies and we were still there for over 3 hours. There is also a cafe but it was closed the day we visited. The price was $16 per person and I think it was well worth it. The amazing thing was every one of the hands-on exhibits actually worked (not something you usually find when so many people are using and abusing them).
It so cool there its for fun and learning and it got stuff for you to play and see
This is an incredible interactive museum. We thought two hours would be good but we ended up spending three hours in the museum until it closed. The number of interactive exhibit is substantial. I cant believe its as little visited as it is. Its five stories of goodness that our kids loved
I enjoyed it I was there for a retirement party and it was real nice and oh my goodness the view when you walk outside on the terrance is breath taking gorgeous awesome!!!!!!
Very interesting and unique interactive experiences! I hope to visit again soon. All staff personnel were very helpful and kind.
Very impressive. Well done. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would highly reccommend this museum.
Extremely nice musuem, construction of this facility is very impressive, lady working the gift shop last Sunday went above and beyond her work duties to make sure me and my three little ones were A OK with our musuem visit....couldnt of asked for a more caring person.....museum is full of educational things for kids and adults. There was alot of thought put into such a musuem....
Very nice facility. Just did not suit my personal interest as far as Maritime theme. Great for kids, sailors and Maritime professionals though.
Highly recommend. Adults and children all learn and have fun here. Don’t rush through; there’s so much to see and do and a great place to dine. Maybe even plan on making a second trip.
Pretty cool place. Kids had fun and lots to do. My kids really enjoyed the boat simulator.
I love GulfQuest! There is so much to explore and learn about. Having a membership is definitely worth the money.
Fun for children (maybe 6 years +) and adults. Very interesting.
This was the site of my 30th high school reunion. It was an excellent place for our banquet. Beautiful view while we dined
I didnt think it was the greatest, but my opinion really isnt what mattered. My two boys had an absolutely fantastic time there and we were quite lucky to have gotten there when there was almost no one in the museum. It wasnt very expensive so it was what worth the trip!
Really enjoyed the visit. So much to see, lots of interactive displays for all ages, plus great cafe.Parking not a problem.
Tremendous staffRick showed me the NOAA glode that is fascinating
Wonderful place for all ages! Lots of interactive things to keep kids interested (my husband and I, 65 and 70 yrs old) were there alone and had a great time playing with all the exhibits) and learning stuff without even realizing it. Highly recommend it!!
My first visit I spent 4 hours there and still couldnt explore everything! I bought a membership and attended the Members Appreciation gathering.Still looking forward to returning with my daughter and grand children!
Very clean and interactive. Great for a rainy day. Free parking and a small cafe to eat also.
Wow! Mobiles best kept secret! It was magical! Staff very helpful and knowledgeable. Exhibits are interesting, interactive and fun! I learned so much about all things maritime. Perfect place to enjoy Alabamas coastline. The Galley served great affordable food. GulfQuest even gave us a complimentary golf cart ride back to our car! Just ask, fun ride..
Very dissapointed in my visit. Staffing was low and so many of the interactive exhibits were broken. They pointed me towards the child area since I had a child with me and most of it was out of order or broken.Unimpressed.
As a retired teacher, I loved this place and wish I could have brought my students. We visited on a mid-December Tuesday morning and were the only customers; note to homeschoolers - this may be your best time to go. The website advertises 90 interactive exhibits and simulators - I didnt count, but there were a lot and room for more. When this place has bus loads of students, I bet they are having a blast exploring and learning. It is handicap accessible with plenty of restrooms. There are elevators, ramps and stairs as you move from Deck 1 up to Deck 5. It is like you are boarding a ship with water below the first ramp. So much to see and do, I cant begin to describe all of it.
An incredibly fun learning experience!! Over ninety exhibits, including a real training simulator for mariners and a Science on a Sphere exhibit from NOAA (the largest model made and one of only a hundred and fifty in the whole world!) Fantastic staff! Free parking! Fun, fascinating, and hands-on!! Expect to spend at least three hours. I see that one contributor claims the museum will close in the Fall of 2019. I asked about that; there is no such plan at all. Thank goodness! This place is a must-see jewel for adults AND kids.
Very well setup facility. Family had a great time. Very educational and fun.
Great staffVey interesting exhibits on gulf coast
The picture is self explanatory. In all seriousness though, this is a pretty good museum that focuses on water, transport through water, and the history of both those things.
Very interesting and great exhibits, especially the ship simulator.
Awesome museum. Didnt know what to expect. It was fun and very informative. Recommend it for people of all ages. Kids will love it.
The kids and I really enjoyed this place!!! So informative and amazing. Love the interactive exhibits.
This place is awesome, especially for older kids ages 7 and up who can really start to grasp the exhibits but it is great for all ages and so educational. We spent 3 hours here, but would have gladly spent more time if we hadnt had to leave due to a long drive back home. Definitely one of the best museums I have been to! I wish they had more maritime and boat themed items in the gift shop and a wider selection of t-shirts. Thats really the only thing I didnt like.
My family and I have been to gulf quest quite a few times and its never been a disappointment, our girls really enjoy the whole experience and the staff are very polite and helpful. thanks gulf quest.
Impressive maritme museum with plenty of hands on activities for learners of all ages. Its worth a stop.
It was very nice. However I feel they need more attractions. There is alot of wast d space.
Great museum! Bonus that you can touch and play with everything. Really informative and interesting for kids and adults
There are so many interesting interactive displays for all ages! We were just two 50+ adults who had a great afternoon trying out all the displays. Especially enjoyed the ship simulator!
This is a hidden treasure! This was by far the best museum we visited in Mobile. Its in a gorgeous location. The employees were extra friendly. It wasnt crowded. It even has a great restaurant on sight that offers up some awesome food like paninis and beer. You can dine and overlook the bay. It is easy to spend an afternoon here. It has almost 100 interactive activities. We ranged from age 7 to 46 and we all had an awesome time. A lot of money and consideration has been invested in this gem. Its definitely a MUST visit!
Worth going to, we got there when they first opened and had the place to ourselves. We made it through the first few floors before field trips started to show up. Almost everything is interactive great for all ages
Very nice, scenic view of the port.
Great place my niece had her wedding reception there and it was fabulous!
What a wonderful museum about the ocean and the Gulf of Mexico! A must-see for anyone passing through Mobile and any lover of the ocean.
Great family fun. This museum offers the insight to operating ships on the gulf, what cargo ships carry and how ships have changed through the centuries. My daughters loved the simulation of driving a boat and understanding what it takes to identify other boats, to pass or to rescue. Great learning experience.
Took us about 3 hours to see and do everything in an empty museum. Awesome staff. Great for kids and adults. Must see.
Great museum, love all the interactive, informative exhibits!
Awesome museum! Even if you arent interested in the shipping industry, they will make you interested! Loved it.
Fantastic place to visit and learn about the water from the of the area. Hands on learning for kids and adults. Plan on several hours of fun and learning!
When you visit GulfQuest dont fail to stop for lunch at the Galley Restaurant on the ground floor. I was shocked by how good it is. It looks like a typical fast food joint at first, but the staff was incredibly nice, the river views phenomenal and the food was to die for. I know you probably dont expect great food at a museum cafe, but its actually one of the best places to eat in downtown Mobile and since I live downtown, Ive tried all of them. Highly recommended.
Will be taken my grandkids soon a great your place for kids aged starts at 3 and up with a movie theater inside and amazing view
Very interactive and kid friendly! Will return!
Excellent museum with 5 floors of exhibits about oceanography, sailing, meteorology, and history of Mobile. Well worth the admission price
I spent all day here and would like to go back a second time!
The customer service there was not what I expected. I reached out several times on the issues that I had with the day of set up and I did not get the results that I was looking for. Also, I reached out to management and they ignored my phone calls. I will not recommend this venue to anyone.
We had a great time. What a fascinating place
Really nice. Didnt have time to do the tour ... but will.
The exhibits here are top notch, interactive, and wonderful. The staff is also super knowledgable and friendly.
This is absolutely one of the most incredible museums I have ever visited. It is world class. Engaging exhibits, awe inspiring technology, fascinating cultural and educational way stations. It is visually stunning in every aspect and the location is perfect. Run (dont walk) to GulfQuest as soon as you can. There is something for everyone from little ones all the way up to great grandparents. This museum is every bit as spectacular as the Smithsonian. I highly recommend it and urge you to go as soon as possible. Im looking forward to returning as many times as I can. I only wish my father had still been alive to see it. He would have loved it. Now quit reading this review and go to GulfQuest!
Very informative. We wanted to spend a couple of hours but by the time we went around all the exhibits it was 4 hours. Highly recommend visiting this museum.
This is one of the most amazing museums that I have ever been to! I took my 5 year old and 6 year old sons and they absolutely loved it.Dont think that this is some old school museum where you just shuffle from one exhibit to the next, staring at dressed up mannequins and reading signs. This place is interactive with up to date technology that can keep the attention of kids and adults. Even though we spent a few hours there, I still feel like there is still more things to see.The staff is really friendly and knowledgeable and the facility is designed well. They put a lot of thought into creating this. Great job!
Pretty cool. Interactive exhibits make learning inevitable and fun.
Very good place to take the kids
