We were in the area with our kids and looking for a park, so we decided to stop here. I saw that it had a train display, which I knew my train loving boys would be excited about, but when we got there, it was locked up. We were only able to look at it from outside of the fence. That was kind of disappointing. The splash pad was a refreshing end to our walk though!

Very nice park has a water area the kids can have fun an stay cool in the summer. Very cool playground area. With walking paths hiking trails with beautiful views of james (some viewing areas could use some tree trimming so you can see the view better). Also have a real train on display an the Remnants of a pack boat along the walking path. Heard a few years ago there was a bald eagles nest along trails not sure if they still nest there.

Really cool park to take little ones to. Walking trails, picnic tables, splash pad in the summer, playground and swings. I put 4 stars because all the slides are metal, and we went on a very warm, sunny day so my kids couldnt touch two slides they were so hot.Metal slides... Really?!

Fantastic stop for the kids. Big playground. Lots of field space to run. Big old steam engine to see. Some walking trails to see the big trestle bridge - we saw 3 trains go by while we were there. Some of the walking trails had a very scary drop, made me nervous with the kids.

Love this park. My kids love playing on the playground, and its also enjoyable walking along the paths as a family. Ive photographed some sessions here for clients, too. I find it the most photogenic during the spring and summer months. Weve also had fun going to movies at the park nights in the past with family.

Great park. Lots of cool things to see. Stuff I bet most would not believe would be in Lynchburg. The water park in fun and clean. The trails need some work but there is plenty to do. We had a great time and will go back soon. Go find out what cool things are at the park.

I decided to spend an afternoon here with the kids, ages 5 and 3, during a visit from out of town, and was very pleased with the outcome. The kids loved the large, train-themed play set and nearby play equipment. We enjoyed wandering around the hills in the park, past the real train exhibit and up towards the trail overlooking the James, playing in the grass and gardens as we went. They lit up when they heard a train pass by just below us along the riverbank. I would definitely highly recommend a family outing here based on our experience.

We had a nice leisure hike to the bridge where there is actually tracks that are still in use and ate lunch on the lawn, but my grandsons love the play area, especially the water area, it was a great treat to cool off and chase them through all the different water obstacles. Love the buckets above, its like a water fall rushing down on you. We went to see the train they have there thanks to the kiwanis club, its the Chesapeake and Ohio Engine and caboose, unfortunately we didnt get to go aboard to see inside . This park is nice and well kept... oh and we saw a deer walking the trail. Nice place to have family time and fun

This is a really great Park if youre looking for an active and very family-friendly location with short Trails as well as long Trails plenty of play space for children even though they need to go ahead and added more swings has won the most popular items it is in an okay neighborhood and definitely dont stay past 6 p.m. considering that its such a large Park but if you can make it in the morning or afternoon you can enjoy the Splash Zone they have plenty to go and see and learn about they have the antique train and I know plenty of people who had family photo ops there as well

I love this park for the variety of things there is to do! In the summer there is a splash pad, theres lots of hiking around, an old train engine you can go visit, and a great playground for kids to run around on. The only negative thing about this park is its at the playground is right next to the parking lot. There are kids running into the parking lot all the time. And theres no fence to be a barrier for safety. Also, the park has wide grassy Hill areas that make it beautiful. It is only a negative thing when you have a kid who is a runner I really enjoy coming to this park though with my two toddlers!

This is a beautiful, paved walking, bicycle trail that crosses over the James River on an old railroad bridge and leads you onto an island in the middle of the river. Trees abound so there is plenty of shade. Very peaceful and enjoyable. A perfect place to bring children, and older adults for a walk in nature, but on blacktop.

This park is great for children, pets and adults with adequate seating, trails, portable potties at least, event areas, multiple playground locations and a splash park open seasonally. Only a couple issues that could be improved upon is the paved road is too small for the traffic and the lower exit shouldnt be closed off. Still earns a 5 star rating!

Unfortunately there are some things that need to be addressed. They tore the old playground down and never replaced what was in its spot, which is very unfortunate. They have successfully almost killed the oldest tree in the park, planted by city council 100 years ago, due to piling up mulch. I have called the city and no one has done anything but dump more mulch at the base. The park used tens of thousands of our tax dollars to plants dozens of trees, only to neglect them and never take the support ropes/wires off. Resulting in killing many of the trees and deforming many because they couldn’t grow.Parks and rec deemed it ok to spend 680k of our money to repair a couple walls on the look out that should have cost around 100k max.The park also gets a little ghetto at times
