We decided to check this place out with our kids and they loved it! Lots of different fun exhibits for all ages. Be ready to climb, because there are tunnels and slides that go from the top to the bottom of the building! There are several huge picnic tables outside that are in a shady spot, which was a great area to eat our picnic lunch! They have a room in the farm area for mothers to feed and change their baby, which I think is great!
First time visit and beyond impressed. This is a 4 story kids interactive, knowledgeable, fun museum. Highly recommend going if you havent.
Fantastic kids museum! Everything was in good working condition and kept clean. Great variety of activities! Lots of stuff!
Weve done a lot of childrens museums and science centers, but I think this one really is exceptional. Friendly staff. Super clean! And almost all the exhibits were in perfect working order. A wide variety of engaging exhibits. My kids are 2 and 5 and there was a lot that kept their attention for a long time! There was a large group of 5th graders there at the same time, and they also seemed very engaged. The climbing tower that goes to all 4 floors was great too.
They do a great job cleaning the museum and communicating when the floors are clear to play and visit again. Overall the experience was a 10 out of 10. Very friendly staff too!
We had an amazing time with our 5-year-old at Amazement Square. It is an awesome facility. Four full floors of interactive fun for kids. You can really spend the whole day there.
Kids always love it here. Lots to do and so much to explore. If you have kids, this place is an absolute must! There are four floors to explore. There are tunnels and slides and ladder and even a Zipline to travel between floors. If that is too much for you, you can always use the elevator or light-up stairs!
I LOVE AMAZEMENT SQARE IT IS VARY FUN FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS
We had an amazing time here for an overnighter with our Cub Scout Pack. There are 4 floors of fun activities and learning opportunities for kids of all ages plus the Tower in the center of the whole place for burning off some of the extra energy. I definitely recommend spending the day here if you can.
The place is very good for kids and family the staff is very nice and the floors are all exciting
Its closed on Monday! i wish we could have gotten in.I gave it 4 stars because just the bug and piano entertained my boys for a good 20 minutes. The outdoor piano is very cool as well as the bug sculptures.
Our kids love this place!
We took our four year olds and ended up finding fun for the whole family. The kids had a blast on the four story playground, checking out the bees, painting, playing on the farm, and exploring their native american and water exhibits. My husband and his dad deffinitely enjoyed building with the crane as well as with the other magnetic blocks and architectural items they had. Super clean, really fun, bathrooms on every floor, easy to keep track of your child while allowing them some freedom, and complimentary locker for bags!
Fantastic as always. Our son absolutely loves every aspect of it.
We went with our 18 month old daughter and she had a great time. It was very fun for all of us to spend a chilly day inside playing, especially when the nearby park is closed.I’m not entirely sure why I had to wait 10 minutes after my card was swiped to pay while the front desk person spoke on the phone with someone about a birthday party and then to someone else about his plans for the next day. Especially because all I needed to do was sign the receipt. It was a little strange and my daughter was getting squirmy while we waited.Overall we had a great time and would go again.
Kids love it. Plenty to do and explore.
My my daughter had best time .The trap in the middle is fun but as an adult dont try it.I freaked out .lol
We absolutely loved it! Loved it so much we bought an extended family membership!
I used to love this place as a kid, i am 23 now and i wanted to go back and see it again. I called and asked if there was an age restriction and they told me no they everyone is welcome. Well i get there ( mind you i live a good 2 hours from here) and i was told that i was not allowed in unless i had a child with me . I am furious that i wasted my gas and time to only be turned away.
Note: Make sure you have a ratio of 1 adult per child...I brought 6 children, 11, 6, two 5, 3 & 1.5 year olds, myself and partner. I lost 2 in the matter of minutes due to the giant jungle gym in the middle of the building.Had tons of fun, recommended slide on shoes cus your constantly taking shoes off and on. Also Amazment square participates in Museums for All so you get discounted if you use WIC or EBT.
Lovely time for kids of all ages.
Great place to gather with family and friends.
Amazing Place
Such a cool place for kids! My toddler had a blast & well definitely be back. Its a little pricey, but the membership looks like a good option if youre planning to go a few times a year. I like that there are so many options for different ages & it provides very hands-on learning.
The kids had a blast learning and playing. The adults had fun too!!
The kids always enjoy visiting Amazement Square. Theyre aged 11yrs - 6yrs and everyone finds enough fun things to keep them busy. But as a parent, its very easy to lose your kids though any of the tubes, slides, and multiple levels. And that ALWAYS makes me nervous.
Our kids loved it. So much to do and see. I think they could have spent all day at just one or two discovery zones. A lot of play areas to keep the little ones busy.
The piano on display out front - on the street - not only has a see-through cover over the strings and brightly-painted hammers, but a bench for people to sit and play! Amazement not only for kids who have never seen inside of a piano - or a piano up-close at all - but for passersby when a real pianist walks by, sits down and starts to play! We didnt have time to go in, but it must be fantastical in there.
Always a great time!
LOVE this place. We take my 2 year old here once a week. This is a 4 story childrens museum with tons of tactile activities as well as challenging science, history and nature based interactive exhibits. The 4 story human sized gerbil maze is the best part! You can literally climb and slide your way through the entire museum! The do date night evening programs occasionally and special events. They have a contained room for small kids with a pirate ship. Its a great place for a kid to get creative, be challenged and get some physical exercise! The yearly pass is definitely worth it and pays for itself if you plan to go more than twice.
Even the sculptures know to mask up!!
A nice mix of interactive exhibits around a 3 story jungle gym with slides between floors and a zip line. Dont miss the golf ball gravity exhibits.
I have always loved coming here since I was a kid! Now as an adult I brought my son here and we both had a blast! I can still climb through the tubes and slides.I love all the different areas there is too much to put in a review you have to experience it for yourself. The river exhibit and the observation deck on the top floor are 2 of my favourite parts.
Amazing. Ive been to similar play areas up north in large cities and this is by far the best. I wish they had more room to expand downtown because they keep coming up with great play areas. Nearby parking. Safe area. Accessible Bathrooms on every level.
We traveled day and night by donkey, only to find a place in the middle of nowhere that read Amazement Square. I pleaded to the clerk to let me and my about to be born child to take shelter in the establishment but instead they turned us down and we had to settle for a manger.
Nice place for kids to unwind
Fun fun fun! & The kids have a blast, too! Good exercise for all. Can learn while playing.
I had been before and was not looking forward to going back this time. I attended a birthday party. I can say, I had a good time as well as my son. He was not ready to leave. Staff was very nice. I now look forward to coming back.
Weve visited Amazement Square a few times, and my kids just love it! There are SO many different things to do, that we sometimes cant even get to all the activities before my kids start getting tired. I love that there is so much variety that you can go back many, many times and always have something that feels new to do without getting bored or it feeling repetitive. Its so much fun for the kids! They love it!
Enjoyef the Giving Back Expo
This is a great childrens museum with enough to offer for different age groups. The museum has 4 floors that each offer unique experiences for kids. We go to kids museums all over and i was happy enough to buy an annual pass for all of us. The bottom floor has a music room, a space for painting on plexi glass and a creation lab where kids can create whatever they want out of donated materials. Well worth the trip and were looking forward to going back.
So much fun! My kids ran this place so hard, it was a quiet night for me. It doesnt get much better than that for a tired mom traveling with 3 littles!
Such a cute place to hang out with the kiddos. They have hours of fun activities. A little expensive entrance fee
Yep. Kids loved it. One of the best kids indoor museum/play places we have been. So much fun for kids, little kids AND big kids
My kids and I always have a lot fun at amazement square. They love it.
Our 3 year old loved everything about this place, and we ended up playing along with him because it is very well designed. Clean plus iy offers a good variety for a wide range of ages
The kids love it! Theres so much to do! They could play the entire day!
So much fun! I wish I was a kid again haha I took my nephew and spent the day there. So much to do!
Great experience with fun for everyone. The only suggestion I have is to have bins available for when kids put things in their mouths.
Fun place. Volunteer Theresa in the toddler room is great with enforcing the age rule for the room so the toddlers can have a space for themselves. Even the block around the building is fun. Workers are caring
Kids love it.
Great place for kids to play, lots of space, interesting and educational games, safe environment!
Spent a couple hours there with my kids, ages 5 and 3, while visiting from out of town, and we had an absolute blast. The highlights of the morning were the paint room, where we donned smocks and were allowed to paint on the walls with abandon, an activity center that hosted a special craft, a theater for enacting plays, a puppet theater, and a raceway station with lots of slopes and structures on which to roll golf balls. Wishing we had budgeted about 3 hours instead of two. One of the better quality Childrens Museums weve ever been to, with four whole floors of creative and well-maintained activities.
We took our youngest son here as part of a birthday trip. Its not too expensive, had fun activities and overall was a good place for a family friendly trip.
Lost our daughter in the levels. Its just too easy for the kids to be scattered
Always loved this place as a kid. The James River boats are the best!
Lots of things for the kids to do. Great playground with tunnels and a Zipline. It was really fun!
So much fun! The entry fee is well worth it.
Four levels of lots of fun! Kids and adults alike will find something to do. Very easy to get around. Elevator goes to each floor. Employees available if assistance is needed.
Grandson and Cousin enjoy everytime they go! Both are 11 years old!
It was a good place for kids but alot of things were not working
Sooo fun alot to do for the kids
Absolutely LOVE this place!!! My 2yo has so much fun here. We bring her every other weekend or so, let’s her burn off all that energy. Friendly staff, great experience.
If u have kids or kids r visiting GO. Im 62 and had a great time. Acted more like a kid than I have in years. A multi-floor jungle gym with educational displays on each level. Grand kids didnt want to leave and neither did i
Really an interesting place to be. There is so much to do! Staff is amazing!
Kids loved it. Something for everyone to do. But the costumes they have with the birthday are horrible. They need to throw those away and get new ones. They are very dirty and old. But everyone theres super friendly!
Been going since I was a child and now Im taking my kids. Theyre always a blast and theres always gonna be a fun activity room open if you go at the right time
Such a fun place for kids! Mine had a blast and there is still so much more to explore. Cant wait to go back.
Very inspiring and educational kids museum.
Always a fun time. My kids have a blast there.
This place has been named exactly what it should be named! I absolutely was amazed by everything in this place. My kids and I had a blast exploring every single book and cranny of every single floor of this place even all the way up into the tower to look out over the James river! This place, as I said before, (and my kids are DEFINITELY in agreement) is AMAZING!! You have got to see Amazement Square for yourself to really get to appreciate the truly amazing wonder that it is. Dont pass it off! You and your kids will be so happy that you decided to go!
Such a unique place to teach and excite kids. Their installations engage children of various ages and are fun for adults to learn and plan alongside their kids.
This place is amazing!! I think the adults enjoyed it more than the six year old
Everyone (all ages) finds enjoyment.
Amazement Square is fun for all ages. From toddlers to adults, there is something to entertain. It’s the perfect way to spend a day having fun. The barnyard area for toddlers is interactive and adorable. All the science based exhibits for the older kids are interesting and creative.
This is such a fun childrens museum. The only thing that would make it better for me would be if they made it feel a little more safe/secure somehow since taking multiple children to such a large, multi-level place can make a mom feel anxious.
Sucks not very interesting
My kids love going and interacting with the exhibits, and always learn something while there. The staff are extremely helpful and seem genuinely interested in providing a fun learning experience for children. There are intermittent issues with the reliability of some of the exhibits, but nothing beyond what would be expected with many children constantly playing with them.
Absolutely phenomenal place to take your children. Interesting educational sites for them to engage and learn a number of fundamental topics. Even a playground in the center of the building that reaches all four stories of the building
Thanking God for this place but I really wish it was just a giant black cube full of light up stairs or Id give it more stars
My kids absolutely love this place. Its worth the drive from Roanoke.
Open during pandemic!
What a great place for a kid to be a kid. Every floor was truly amazing.
Wonderful exhibits, great for kids of all ages!
Areas for all ages. I recommend checking the website before going to see if there is a field trip planned for when you are going. Sometimes its a bit overwhelming for small children if there is a large group of school aged kids. However there is a room on the 3rd floor thats gated and only for children under 3 years old, great place for new moms (parenting books, pillows, nursing) and babies (shoes off, mirrors, and sensory experiences)
Big fun! This place is lots of fun and creative. We had lots of fun.
Amazement Square is a great place to bring the kids, but do you have to charge the parents?Amazement square, if Im not mistaken, is a converted old building (warehouse) that was transformed into a 4 floor activity, educational and entertaining kids dream land. Spread out over the several floors is a vast array of things for kids to play with, on and inside of. Theres a place for every childs imagination here. Whether theyre the next Einstein, Picasso or Indiana Jones, Amazement square has something to entertain them while teaching all the while.Though there have been several updates through the years, I would like to see more changes take place. Some of the activities have been worn down a little and though its still fun to play around with the many stations and activities, they are starting to show their age.My biggest quandary with the place is that they charge the parents as well as the child. Now, if this was the Boston Museum of Science, I could understand it, but I find that there is little for the parents to do after a few trips. Of course its fun to interact with your kids when they are creating a ball drop maze or launching golf balls down the wooden roller coaster like ramp, but give our wallets a break. The place feels genuinely focused on kids, the way it should be, but at least discount the price for parents. When you bring a family of 4, youre going to drop $40. Thats not cheap in this economy for an already struggling family that just wants their kids to have a good life.So always look around for coupons and get ready for a fun afternoon.
Amazing learning museum for kids! My hometown had something kind of like this, but I did not expect to find such an amazing kids science museum in a smaller city like Lynchburg.
My kids love this place. Here is not only fun but educational to kids.
Awesome place to bring your kids.
Lots of activities for kids. Age group I’d recommend is toddler and up. The first time we went there was when my LO was 8 months old and all we did was go into the room with the pirate ship and play with toys, spoons etc., which is something we could have done at home. Times we visited LO turned 1 were much better because LO was able to play and explore.I wish you only had to pay for kids and not both kids and adults. There isn’t much adults can do, other than observe and monitor their kids. Charging only for kids entrance would increase traffic and revisits.
Bring our 2 year old whenever we’re visiting family and she loves this place. Especially the farm exhibit, where she can milk the cow, and the paint room. Even when there are larger groups there, we still have a great time. I’m really, really happy with the ‘under 36 months’ room.
A great place to be a kid of any age. Lots of fun. Lots of smiles. Lots of learning. Great place for families to enjoy.
This is a great place to bring your children to play .
There is so much for your children to do it’s hard to keep up with. You can let your child just go have fun, but you need to keep an eye on them. It’s easy to loose them in the play tunnels. Never fails a parent looses there kid in those tunnels. If you haven’t been check it out. All the levels..
Stellar place to take the kids! Cool spot in downtown with some family-friendly eats nearby, as well as a walking park and river front. Amazement Square does a lot of great events and community events, but just a normal day holds tons of fun and learning experiences. Paint the walls, climb a tower indoors, slide back down to the bottom, play and explore different centuries. All ages - its great!
Great fun! Weve taken 2 class field trips to Amazement Square, and both were incredible. There are lots of fun things for kids to do. Mine are 8 and 10 and they spent hours climbing and interacting with the exhibits. Their favorite part was crawling in the tubes. The staff is also super friendly. I hope to return soon with my other kids!
A fun place to take my three year old Granddaughter. I would say this place is excellent for ages 3-8. Wish they would have a discount for 2 adults and 1 child. Kind of a pricey afternoon for the three of us.
Its a great place to roam and explore!
