Newly renovated distillery in the heart of Louisville with a tourism first business model. Old Foresters gorgeous facility offers the best tour to walk through the entire bourbon making process, from distillation to bottling; from barrel assembling to barrel aging. Note: their facility does not operating on Mondays, hence why the ticket prices are cheaper.Loved their gift shop items... I picked up bourbon-aged seasonings, a shirt, and of course a glencarin glass.
This was an excellent tour, and we didnt even know to look forward to it. What a nice surprise! Everything about the process in one building, in an extremely convenient and historically accurate downtown Louisville location. The interior architecture of the whole complex is attractive and gleaming with cleanliness. We especially appreciated seeing the barrel truck outside, and observing first-hand an active modern cooperage.
Old Forester’s tour was an excellent experience! Our bourbon guide Jenni was very knowledgeable and friendly. Old Forester downtown has been made to allow tour guest to experience every step of there process. This includes the making of their own barrels! We really enjoyed the whole experience including a drink at George’s Bar after the tour. Don’t miss this jewel on the Bourbon Trail!
What a great your! Beautiful building that has been renovated to showcase their bourbon production, from everything to barrel making and charring, distillation, fermentation and bottling. This was our favorite distillery tour yet! Definitely the best in Louisville. Although they can only produce about 10% of total production and age 150 barrels, it is a fantastic tour. For $16, it is well worth the price. We sampled the 1870, regular, and new Rye whiskey. I liked the 1870 the best, as it tasted similar to woodford in that it is a blended batch. This is a must see stop for a bourbon tour!
Such a great tour. Our tour guide, McKenzie, was by far the best tour guide of any I’ve had on the trail. She was amazing, she took the experience to the next level. My favorite part of this tour was getting to press the big green button to char the barrel.
Had a wonderful tour of the distillery. The staff are very knowledgeable, fun and entertaining.Knowing the history of the building, each distinct bottle and how it is made as well as the company made it even more entertaining.Definitely a must do if you are in town.
Great distillery to visit. Freshly renovated and top of the line updated. You will learn a great deal about one of the best bourbon $ can buy, and u will tasted too.But of course if u are here you already know a lot about bourbon, so I say no more.Highly recommended!!
What an amazing story, distillery and great representation of Kentucky Bourbon as would be expected on Main Street. We visited this location on a recommendation as was unknown to this West Cost couple (come on, distributors! Who wants to put some marketing dollars in California?). Our tour guide, I believe her name was Diana from LA, was amazing. She was full of knowledge about the Louisville history and the process to make this in throw back drink. To top it off, she kept light the science behind getting the ingredients to our favorite bottled liquor using more relatable contracts to explain what is happening. Like Yeast being like a toddler who loves sugar and needs a lot of attention. The 45 min tour was coupled with a fun tasting of 3 variations of the Old Forester brand wheee she encouraged use of nose and pallet and possible uses of each. After the tour we rushed down to purchase our favorites which included one that could be engraved. When we brought it to the register we were told engraving was complete as they were closing in 3 min and we could pick it up in am. Well we were disappointed as we shared that we were heading back to Nashville so will have to forego the bottle. But to show that class isn’t only saved for the tours and that there is a pride in working for This company, the gentleman (Hunter) graciously said no problem and went and etched our bottle commemorating our NYE trip.Overall this was more than expected and we will be back to enjoy more of what’s offered at Old Forester as well as Louisville’s Whiskey Row.
This place was such a pleasant surprise! The location itself is only a test old and just gorgeous. But everyone was l there was so friendly and attentive. We stopped in in the morning to look and the store and get your tour/tasting info. When we came back in the evening we were immediately greeted with a welcome back!. I couldnt believe we were remembered! We purchased a $14 tasting voucher and sat in the bar. Complimentary popcorn and water was brought immediately and our tasting just a few minutes later. We were very impressed and bought a few bottles.
An interesting bourbon tour. Got to try four kinds of bourbon. The tour leader is fun.
Any thing bourbon will get my attention. This is an incredible place. This is Old Foresters return to Whiskey Row in downtown Louisville. The building may be new, but it is filled with history. History of not just Old Forester, but bourbon in general. The shop is filled with their bourbons. It also has a wide selection of bourbon infused sauces and bourbon barrel aged items. We picked up bourbon smoked salt, pepper and garlic salt to use in our cooking. This is an enjoyable place to visit and tour. Restaurants for every taste line the street around it as well.
Awesome experience! I was expecting the standard distillery tour, but the Old Forester tour was a truly unique experience. My favorite part was getting to see their cooper build barrels from scratch! The building looks newly renovated; everything is state-of-the-art. The entire staff was friendly, and our tour guide did an excellent job. Delicious tasting at the end! I just wish they sold bourbons unique to the distillery; everything they had could be easily found at any good liquor store. Id definitely recommend this tour to friends and I wouldnt mind visiting a second time myself!
It is great place to start off the tour. The tour guide was so nice. The tasting was great! I am starting to love this bourbon.
Great distillery with a rich history. The new facility is well done and the tour is extremely informative. They tour guide is very knowledgeable and friendly. I would definitely recommend it while in town. You will not regret it.Don’t forget to stop by the bar and have a drink before and or after. They make excellent drinks.
So glad we went! Learned alot and the whole space is beautiful and impressive. Interesting process and history. The gift shop has some fun stuff too. The bar does flights and interesting cocktails. We went on a non production day (Sunday and Mondays) so try to go when theyre making bourbon.
This is a great tour. Quick and condensed. They did a great job on the building. The tasting is interactive if you want it to be and the guides are very knowledgeable. Fun times in a great town
My wife and I had been anticipating the opening of this location for awhile now. Our first chance, we took a tour. The tour was very informative, as most are, but included information you will get on no other tour regarding cooperage (barrel-making). They make their own charred white oak barrels on-site from start to finish. This tour is worth it for the barrel-making experience alone... and I guess the bourbon is pretty delicious too!
Great time! Collin was our tour guide, he was very knowledgeable about the production of the product as well as the history. I would recommend this tour to someone else. Furthermore, after the tour we went into the gift shop and virtually every employee we talked too was very nice and genuinely cared about answering our questions.Merchandise pricing was fair as well.
Even if you have been on a distillery tour before. Go on this one. It is a craft sized distillery with even feature of the process displayed very informatively. They have the barrel making process as well as a rickhouse in the building. The bar is a great feature if you want a little more then the tasting on the tour. Also if you dont have time for the tour. In the bar they have several barrel select bottles so try a flight of them. Barrel Selects display what location (warehouse, floor) the barrel came and you can taste the differences.
The standard Bourbon tour was fantastic and a great value at $14 it included a guided tour of the production process as well as a tasting of 3 types of Whiskey. The tour guide was fantastic and provided a lot of info regarding the process and the brand. The Whiskey was delicious and the atmosphere was superb.
The tour here was PHENOMENAL! The aroma of the tour is one of the most amazing parts. You smell the barrels and the bourbon. This is definitely a MUST-DO if youre in Louisville.
11/27/18 Old Forester was not open last year when I did the urban bourbon trail. I was pleasantly surprised at the facility and our tour guide was excellent. This is such a modern distillery and is a must visit if you are in Louisville.Update 12/30/18: came back and got to see the barrels get charred.
Super fun. Our guide made sure we got to really experience all the steps in the process. The grains, the mash, the raw whiskey, even the barrel making, it was fun. I dont think this tour misses a thing.. Definitely suggest the 119 Tour.
Such an amazing facility! You get to see the entire process from from start to finish including coopering barrels. The guide was knowledgeable and friendly and the tasting at the end was fun. If there was literally only one bourbon stop that I could take a newbie to it would be this as they do a great job of going over the entire process.
Recently in Louisville for work and a colleague arranged a tour and dinner at Old Forester. What an amazing experience! Fascinating to learn more about the history of the company, bourbon and see the faculty. Of course, the bourbon is first rate and the food was fantastic. Highly recommend stopping in the next time youre nearby. You will be treated like amazingly well.
Great tour, very cool seeing the distilling process in a smaller area without long walking or tour. 1hr. They make their own barrels which was very cool to see.
Wow! My son and I enjoyed a great tour today at Old Forester. Our guide, McKenzie, did a super job. The tasting at the end of the tour was far and away the best tasting experience we’ve had in our bourbon trail trip. We had plenty of time for questions and discussion, and the members of the tour group, though unrelated, developed a nice rapport. McKenzie was knowledgeable and enthusiastic about sharing her Old Forester information trove with us. All in all one of the best tours we’ve taken on the trail.
One of my favorite bourbon tours. Went for my husbands birthday; I wasn’t a bourbon fan before this tour but their double oaked bourbon is YUM! Not to mention the salted chocolate and caramel dipped marshmallow at the tasting. Our tour guide Ed was knowledgeable and interactive. They offer a ton of tour times. Staff was very friendly and makes you feel welcomed to the area- not only did they answer our questions about their bourbon products but also gave suggestions about the downtown area.
Didnt have time to do the tour but had some time to visit the bar and enjoy a whiskey flight. The drinks were $14 for a cocktail or a flight and you pay at the bar entrance when you arrive and receive a ticket. Great selection and they also served their bourbon caramel popcorn as a snack. The retail area is really nice with bottles for sale as well as many other items.
Awesome Tour. Best time to go for locals is during Derby. Small tour size and special tasting selection.
Self guided tours, very relaxed and in depth. Go at your own pace and stop by tasting stations with employees that fill you in on more information as you go. Coolest tour Ive been to so far.
The tour and tasting is outstanding! This is the only distillery tour Ive been on that includes a stop at a (small) working cooperage, and you actually get to see the barrels being charred. The tasting is well done and includes some top shelf bourbons. We had a great time here, and Old Forester is now at the top of my list of favorite bourbons! My wife decided that their rye is the best whisky in that category shes ever had.
Love this place. Just wish you could get birthday bourbon easier
A great introduction to making the American Original. Old Forester does an excellent job of taking a concise tour of an operating distillery in Downtown Louisville. Mash to Distillation to Cooperage to Aging to Bottling. An immersive experience for the curious, the novice, or the seasoned pro. Ask for Sarah, shes a great host and keeps the tour engaging.
Really fun and interesting distillery tour! Learned quite a bit of history on this tour as well. One of the big benefits of this tour is that it’s 100% indoors and climate controlled. Really nice in the summer!
A absolutely beautiful setup. The tour was phenomenal. The history portion is great, love learning about the history of all the distillers. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. This tour is the only tour in which you get to see a barrel be made and toasted and then charred. The aroma in the different rooms was heaven. A must visit tour.
Took their tour today. We had a small group (3) . Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly. It was different than other tours we have taken. The staff was friendly and helpful. Thanks to them we found a great restaurant.
Better than most along the Urban Bourbon Trail. Quality products; clean, bright decor; pleasant staff. Their mornings are even better priced than at many places around LouKen.
Loved the tour and barrel selection experience! Tyler was great!
Best tour of our Louisville Bourbon trip. Great to see an entire process in a very consolidated manner but still feel unique. Smallest tasting of any of the tours we did but that would be the only complaint.
Fantastic tour, one of the best if not THE BEST tours on the KY Bourbon Trail.Go on the weekend and beg the staff to put you on a tour with Ian. Best tour guide, great at answering questions, incredibly personable, and wholly knowledgeable. Ian clearly has a passion for his weekend side gig and it shows.
THE BEST bartenders in Louisville. Michael and Allen will take great care of you. We keep finding our way back because they are great bartenders with amazing drinks. We will be back. Highly recommend a visit. Best if you can relax and spend some time.
Sarah did a great job, entertaining, and knowledgeable. Really enjoyed the barrel making area and obviously the tasting
This place had better service from the employees than any of the other distilleries that we visited. Very inviting and fun! And the bar has a very fun vibe.
Ive been on several distillery tours. This by far is the best. There seems to be two styles of distillery tours developing out there. There is the traditional tour at the actual distillery. This tends to favor the companies with the beautiful rural grounds and giant magnificent rickhouses. The other is the urban experience where you visit a location with some sort of historical tie and tour a reproduction of the process. The experience-type places tend to be a sanitized version of the real thing, a glossing over. Some I would even relate to a visit to Epcot Center at Disney World. The Old Forester tour is an experience-type tour but make no mistake, it is nothing to dismiss. The entire staff first off is very professional and friendly. The tour is immersive. Although its a small operation, high-end and expensive bourbon is produced at this location. Instead of showing you endless videos and staged events of things, here you see the real thing from start to finish. For an experience tour, this is quite an enjoyable surprise. In the on-site cooperage, you even get a chance to participate. The whole tour is informative. Our particular tour guide, Caitlyn, was knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. The presentation of everything is top notch. Theyve really gotten down the cool chic bourbon feel in the design of the interior, almost a post-modern Mad Men feel to things. The tour concludes with an enjoyable tasting experience and a visit to the gift shop which is a treat in itself. Please go and see how its done. You could only do better by going to and actual didtt and even most of those tours arent this great.
Visit was very interesting. Would recommend to anyone who wants to learn about bourbon.
We took the distillery tour, the guide was very descriptive and patient with us all. The experience was wholesome and worth the price.
Knowledgeable staff and tour guides, have taken it several times and will return again.
I visited here on a work trip last week and enjoyed every moment of it! McKenzie was our host and she was extremely knowledgeable! The bourbon was good! I’d highly recommend this tour!
Excellent tour! I only wish I remember our guides name - but, you know, they give you 3 samples at the end and you unfortunately forget some details. I do remember how knowledgeable she was about the distillery and all the processes. The stop through the cooperage was a first for me, where you got to see the barrels being made. Id recommend the tour when in Louisville and would also recommend trying their old fashioned mix.
Outstanding place! The tours guides are excellent and the facility is impressive to tour.Tasting was fun to do with such knowledgeable people that they have and seeing the history is really cool.
Bartenders are over warming and have great knowledge of the bourbon so glad to be here to be the first stop of our bourbon trail and very happy to continue the journey!
The tour leader spoke fast and was hard to keep up with at times but otherwise it was nice. The experience was great how they set that up. The tasting was good, I enjoy sampling the different bourbons.
This place is awesome! Neat to see a working distillery in action! Cheap ticket prices. Very upscale
Great tour. I did three distilleries last weekend. This was by far the best
This was our favorite stop of the weekend getaway. Such an interesting tour and oh yeah, great bourbon. The little bar afterwards was really nice to grab one last drink at - I think it was called Georges. Definitely worth checking out on your Louisville adventure.
The distillery was open today for tours today due to the Birthday Bourbon release. (Otherwise closed for Labor Day) Leanne lead me on a great solo tour which I appreciated. (Many places will cancel and refund for just one guest) Instead, I got a VIP experience from Leanne as she lead me through this working distillery floor by floor. I learned a lot about the Bourbon crafting and barrel making processes along the way. Including, torching my own barrel. The employees all greeted me along the way and seemed happy to be doing their jobs making it a real cool experience to see how a small distillery works. At the end, I sample 3 excellent Old Forester Bourbons, the 86 proof (which changed in flavor over the time I was there), the Bottled in Bond (1897), and the Old Fine Whiskey (1910).
Very nice place. Its worth it to take the tour.
Had a great time here. Our tour guide, Bruce, was very knowledgeable and funny. I would recommended this tour to any bourbon lover.
Must do the tour. Perfect Old Fashioned is, well... perfect!
We had a great tour led by Collin, and a well-constructed tasting at the end. Very well executed!
Great bourbon education in the heart of downtown. A rare site to see how the barrels are built and fired.
One of the best tours.
Really great find! It’s nice being able to take a tour without having to drive over an hour. This distillery tour only cost us $15 and was conveniently located downtown within walking distance of everything. They have a great history within the city and do a great job telling the story. The setup of the distillery within this historic building is impressive. I have gone back twice now.
Visited here several months ago. Great visit. Done many distillery tours, this is one of the best.
The best tour I went on. The tour guide we had was amazing. Learned the history of both bourbon and Old Forester prior to and through prohibition. Beautiful facilities and great tasting. Was able to see how a barrel was made and toasted/charred in addition to the bottling line. Overall awesome experience.
The people made this experience wonderful. The bartenders in the tasting area were very knowledgeable and will lead you to what you will enjoy the most! Also the ladies in the gift shop were willing to help you find the perfect gift.
Great tour, got to see the distilling process and the barrel making facility. Staff was friendly. Facility is beautiful. The bar served one of the best ‘old fashioned’ drinks that I ever had.
Great distillery. Cool place to visit. Love there product.
This was our first stop on the Bourbon Trail and would highly recommend starting here. The building was finished in June 2018 and its obvious it was built specifically for touring, which is amazing. The tour was incredibly informational and it was great seeing the cooperage. Plus the tastings were awesome!
Went on a tour with Collin. Im not a big bourbon drinker but figured while in Kentucky, might as well. The tour was enjoyable, learned a lot about the history of Old Forester as well as the distilling process. Collin was a great tour guide, very personable and engaging in his tour, taking time to answer any questions I had
We didnt do the tour, just a tasting at the bar. Our server, Kaylee, was very knowledgeable and friendly.
This was a true distillery tour that provided Louisville history along with an up-close view of the bourbon-making process. Carly did a fantastic job of giving me a one-on-one tour that included the fermentation tanks, the still, the barrel-making process (I had the privilege of pressing the go button to char a barrel!), storage, and the bottling process. The tour finished with a tasting of the Signature bourbon, Statesman bourbon, and Rye whiskey. I was very pleased with the whole experience and would recommend it to anyone.
The Distillery it self and the tour experience is GREAT. The Bar experience is also great. My reason to give 1 star is the Event Manager Natalie Herndon. Her whole enthusiasm to help you plan an event is all fake. She will act like she wants to help the best way she can but I caught her rolling her eyes as she was walking away from talking to me as if she was ready to get away from me. I was nothing but professional with this lady. Considering that I would be paying well over 2,000 dollars for the event space which doesn’t even include catering she seemed very annoyed by all the questions I was asking. She is very unprofessional and I would NEVER come here for a event. The prices are expensive and you don’t get much for your money. To anyone who wants to plan any type of event I would strongly recommend that you take your business else where. Again nothing Against The distillery at all. My Tour Guide was Wes and he did a fantastic Job. I recommend everyone come for the Tour and Bar experience but do not Book an event at this place.
Great distillery with an awesome tour. One of the best tours in the area.
Great tour. The tour really did cover a great overview of the distilling process and guide was very knowledgeable. Products were great and the facility was amazing what they could do within the space. This could easily be my one of my top recommendations.
Impressive facility, tour, tasting, and staff.
Very good location, easy to reach... Excellent bourbon:-) great presentation of products.
The tour was awesome and very informative. It seemed to focus more on the production and barrels of bourbon and less of history like some other places. The barrels getting charred was really cool and my whole group enjoyed the experience. Would recommend for groups of any size.
We had a great time yesterday with Martin! He made our tour lots of fun!
One of the best tours in the area. Had a great time and would definitely do it again!
If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. Not because of the tour, which by all accounts was quite delightful and is a 5/5 all on its own, but because they delivered a bag that Id left behind back to me in another state. This level of professionalism is seldom seen and I wish them nothing but good for their business.
Had the best tour with William! Thank you for a fantastic experience!
GORGEOUS facilities! So impressive, the staff was incredible, especially Kendra. She was so kind & knowledgeable and made our experience so memorable! We went back again to purchase more gift items because we had such a positive experience!
Excellent tour. Very informative and interactive. Seeing a barrel raised and then charred was really fun. Tasting was great. Ed, our tour guide, did a phenomenal job. Will definitely go back again.
One of the best distillery tours. McKenzie was an excellent tour guide!!
This was the most complete tour of any of the distilleries in Louisville and better than most along the bourbon trail. This tour goes from the start to the finish of bourbon production and as a bonus includes a chance to see the making of the barrels. If one only has time for one stop on the Louisville portion of the bourbon tour, this is the one. In fact, after going on the Old Forester tour the only reason to visit another distillery is to sample other bourbons, and thats not a bad thing. The Old Forester Distilling Co. is a must place to visit while in Louisville, or as a stop if only traveling through.
As opposed to a tour we elected to do a tasting in Georges bar here at the Old Forester Distillery. My husband had the whiskey flight and I got a mocktail. Everyone was friendly and accommodating. The whiskey is wonderful, and Georges has a really cool speakeasy vibe. Favorite Louisville stop thus far.
What a nice spot for friends! Great drinks, good food and service is great too!
Went for a tour, stayed for a sip. Learned so much! Tour was interactive and a great balance of history and technical info. Beautiful building as well.
Quality product served by simpletons lacking basic hospitality skills and decorum. I received a pour half as large as the person next to me and was told that it was the same and it was an optical illusion...2/10. Would not recommend.
Kirby, Casey and Alan were so knowledgeable and welcoming during our tour. The whiskey is delicious, readily available and affordable. I would stay here all day everyday if I could.
We took the tour and it was great. Our guide knew his stuff and was great at keeping us entertained. Its a great place to visit and I cant wait to taste some of the single barrel bourbon that will be sitting here sometime in 2025 when it comes out.
Fun tour and great tasting bourbon. You learn a lot on these tours. You should definitely go on one.
Great tour! Carly was an awesome tour guide!! Great start to a whiskey row excoursion!
Went in there simply as a bar and not to do the tour. The bar staff seemed like they were simply not interested to be there. We all feel like they were continually trying to usher us out. Any joke we made, any attempt to engage was... Scoffed at. Including trying to order a second round. My friend left a tip but in this one case I would not have.
Great atmosphere, knowledgeable staff. Oh...and great bourbon.
Excellent tour..we thoroughly enjoyed every sec of it! Lots of fun facts and so much history! kudos Old Forester and Karley our tour guide!
Of the several distillery tours Ive done, this one is my favorite. Fascinating to see all of the process including the barrel making!
