A beautiful, peaceful place. A time when life was more gentle and peaceful, and humans had time to dream, wonder, explore, and go on journeys of adventure and discovery! One of my favorite places for years and years. A perfect must, when decorated for Christmas!

A beautiful place in the world. Covid is having an effect, but even then, the peacefulness of this place is epic. There, now I ruined it for everyone. When I met my husband, 30 years ago, on our first date, we were both talking about this magical hideaway that we just had to go to. It was dark out, but we were already so stricken that we both had to share our special place. I didn’t mention where we were going, but as he offered me the chance to show him my favorite place first, I gave him directions until we got there. As we arrived, he shared that it was where he was taking us, too. Two years later, we were married here, and a lovely occasion it was. Our kids roamed the nearby wooded path as though it was their personal “Pooh Woods”. They still bring friends to share in the uniquely calming atmosphere of Locust Grove. 100% Kentucky. Yes, some of the history is dark here. As dark as Kentucky’s own checkered past. Let that go, if you can. For this land was settled by people brave enough to walk to or from New Orleans on foot, if need be. George Rogers Clark’s sister. And Lewis and Clark, no doubt, stopped on their way out West. It’s all there. And you can feel it. Do yourself a favor, and check it out.

Beautiful grounds and wonderful volunteers! Everyone is so happy to share their knowledge with you. The kitchen is my favorite area, though the house--which has been lovingly restored--is really nice, too! Locust Grove really brings history to life. Definitely keep an eye out for events here, too. Theyre always fun and well done!

Great Historical Place to visit. Very well preserved and our guide Hannah was very knowledgeable and she explained very well about ancient customs and culture. Collection of ancient furniture, life style etc. They have paid tour guide and I highly recommend taking one of those. 1 to 2 hour will be enough to explore this place ( Again it depends upon your interest in the history) Free parking and staff was really good and helpful.

Lots of history at Locus Grove...frontier America, Kentucky, George Rogers Ckark who founded Louisville, his brother William of Lewis & Ckark fame, and more. Great docent tour. Museum exhibit is interesting, not too long. With a AAA discount, the tour was only $6...well worth it for an hour and a half or so. Knowledgable staff. Very easy to get to. On the way down Blankenbaker Lane, you will drive by Zachary Taylors boyhood home, and President Taylor is buried just a mile or so away in the Zachary Taylor National Cemetary on US 42.

Excellent tour of this historic home and grounds. I was amazed at how many leaders of the revolutionary war visited or stayed here. I dont think of Kentucky or Indiana being involved in the defeat of the British, but low and behold, a great deal of decisive battles took place in this area and many of this countrys founders moved west into the frontier and passed through Locust Grove. Our tour guide, Rebecca, was a wealth of historical knowledge although her last day at Locust Grove was the day we toured.

Locust Grove is a beautiful historic site! Tour the 18th c. house to learn about topics like the later life of Revolutionary War hero George Rogers Clark and the early exploration of Mammoth Cave. A visitors center houses modern facilities, a history exhibit, and an excellent gift shop. The grounds are home to great events throughout the year, from book & antique sales to historic reenactments, and (my favorite) the Jane Austen Festival every July.

They have a handicap ramp. A sidewalk. There is no handrail. There is no guardrail. So falling off the edge is a good possibility. Rolling off the edge with a wheelchair is a great possibility. Tumbling down the hill, although its a small one, and then hitting the concrete will be pretty bad.

This is one of my favorite historic sites to visit. The staff is welcoming and informative. They have a cast of volunteers who study and portray carefully-researched versions of the members of the historic household. I am always impressed with their attention to the details of history and their interaction with the public. Although a small site, they host several large history events throughout the year, and the cost is quite low for the quality of the site. :)

We went for the fall market, so did not get the normal experience, but it was well worth the trip. It was a lot of fun to take a step back in time with the reenactors and their shops and demonstrations. The property is beautiful in its own right and has just enough modern accommodations (museum, restrooms, gift shop, etc.) that benefit the experience without getting in the way of its history. I would definitely come back for a guided tour as the home was beautiful and the docents seemed truly knowledgeable regarding the home.

Excellent place to visit. The tour of the house was wonderfully done. Great effort was put into historical restoration. After the tour, the ability to look over the grounds on you own (at your own pace) is fulfilling. A really nice place for families. I would go again.I would check if there is a school group going. We were unable to watch the introduction because of numerous school groups. They did give us the link to watch it, but the experience was not the same.

Nice little local museum. Id wondered about the history of Louisville, and this will take you through it at the family level. Doesnt avoid the uncomfortable topics like slavery and interaction with the people who were here first. The museum doesnt quite flow, unfortunately, and youll find yourself jumping forward and back chronologically as you walk through.
