We recently moved to Louisville Kentucky and love Cherokee Park. Our whole family visit often. Trails for hiking, playground for the kids and even a self guided auto tour makes time fly. Cherokee park was designed by the Olmstead brothers who designed Central Park in NYC. Bring a picnic lunch and the kids and the dogs for a fun filled day. Cherokee Parks grounds are well maintained and beautiful. You wont want to leave
Great day for walking. Dont know why some roads thru the park are blocked off.Enjoyed the area we walked in. Grass was cut and it was clean (no trash).
An awesome forest in the middle of the city. Great paths to walk and especially great trails for mountain biking. These are fairly technical trails for beginners but tons of fun overall. There is also an archery range, dog parks and the nearly world famous frisbee field.
Every viewpoint is beautiful. Ample amenities and parking. Truly a place of respite in the midst of concrete chaos by losing yourself in nature.
This is one of my favorite parks in Louisville. This park is clean, but there is less traffic due to the park being closed to vehicles second to the pandemic. We stayed on the scenic loop where social distancing was respected. We traveled back to the bathrooms near the golf course. They were remarkably clean.
Cherokee is a great park, particularly because of its proximity to the rest of the highlands. It is flanked on all sides by the iconic houses of old Louisville, and the interior of the park is equipped with a lot of great fields and wooded areas. During the fall, it’s a lovely place to just walk around and see the leaves change. People use this park a lot for biking and running, but there are plenty of places to hammock, hike, or picnic as well.
My favorite of the wonderful Olmstead Parks scattered throughout Louisville. Just an amazing city park with a little something for everyone! Incredibly well maintained also.Personally, Im a big fan of the 2.4 mile loop for running and biking. Especially since car traffic has NOT been allowed in the park for the last several weeks. The loop is a great path for walks, runs and bike rides!
A city park like no other. Amazing views everywhere. Trails to hike all day. Hillsides to relax on.
Nice park, clean and organized. Very good for a family picnic
I lost a bunch of weight by, in part, running around in circles here all summer. And it only smells when it rains. Also, if youre very lucky, youll be able to see the ghost of Frederick Law Olmsted floating down the creek dressed as Judge Dredd and shouting, I am the Law!
My opinion, one of the most beautiful parks I have been to!
Amazing and beautiful. I went there at night and walked around a bit
Its nice to relax there but it has been closed lately. Use to take my dog to dog hill.
Nice walk paths, hiking trails, lawns, picnic tables, playgrounds and gazebo/covered areas. This is one of the best parks in Louisville. Frederick Law Olmsted--Google him and Louisville parks system. No need to thank me. Go here and enjoy nature. Take a walk, fly a kite, or have a picnic. (Playgrounds/spray grounds currently closed due to covid).
Beautiful very nice family picnic ️ First time together with all my family since December 2019 ! All Staying Healthy
Awesome park hidden just outside downtown. There are lots of different paths to walk and open areas to sit and play or picnic.
Absolutely lovely! A wonderful way to spend time exercising.
Beautiful park with plenty of places to do many things such as have a comfortable lunch, play golf, tennis, basketball and more.
Its nice except it took too long to walk to it and I had to use the bathroom, kinda a failed mission. Also mass vandalism. Not a good look.
Always a beautiful walk and a great place to pray for the nation and peace to all people where all lives matter.
Awesome place to walk, bike, run, sit, etc. Good views, good fun for entire family
Simply magical...crown jewel of Louisville Parks.
People drive way too FAST through the park .
Great to get out and stretch your legs in the woods. Lots of trails if you step off the paved loop.
Ive been going here since I was a child and Ive raised my children coming here and they will bring theirs here as well and so forth. My most favorite place on this planet and Ive been everywhere.
Love this park! It’s beautiful and such a blast. I’ve been going here my entire life and I have always loved it. I cant wait to go back
Plenty of space to do most everything and the 9-hole golf course is pretty cool.
I have yet to explore all the paths/trails here but I love the scenic loop- it is beautiful and moderately challenging and a great way to have a walking visit, or a walk by yourself. As a woman I feel safe on this path because there are always other women here too. Beautiful, thankful that people before us realized how important it was to have green space in the city!
Love being able to bike while its car free. Just watch out for oblivious walkers and strollers
A sprawling park with scenic views and very wide paved paths for many walkers, runners, and cyclers to all fit and enjoy themselves working out.
Amazing park for walking biking or hanging out with friends
Nice park. Major bummer the roads are closed currently.
Beautiful setting, trails every which way. Hills can be a bit challenging in the heat and humidity.
Beautiful park with shaded trails and paved paths. Perfect for a walk or run!
Very quiet, beautiful and cozy park.
Qn amazing getaway but not away from my city, a graceful way to stay a day on a piece of mother natures come and play
The roadside trash was at a minimum this time! The bathroom was open and in good working order. Fellow pedestrian and bicyclic traffic is respectful and friendly enough.
Had a great time, only thing that sucked was finding parking since they have it closed off
The scenery was beautiful, except for the weird man in the bushes with no clothes
Gorgeous walking trails, big trees, peaceful
Great trail running, but could have used some markings and bathrooms.
This park is absolutely gorgeous. It was designed by the same person who designed Central Park.Well worth the walk around, and try to do an afternoon picnic underneath some HUGE trees.Weather buffs: this park was hit by the EF-4 tornado which struck Louisville on April 3-4, 1974. If you look very carefully, you can see tree limbs which were permanently twisted by the winds and an area of trees which are considerably smaller than the surrounding trees.
Very hilly. Great for a jog or walk.
Lovely park that is well maintained. Great for walking, running, biking, picking, you name it. There is a fenced in dog park that people apparently forget or dont know about. Certain areas have a problem with limited parking so consider walking to the park if you are close enough in the summer.
Gets a bit over crowded at times, otherwise beautiful, fun to walk.
This park is always good for a walk/jog and has great places to take photos. A few playgrounds for kids and a baseball field. Also good to ride through on a motorcycle.
Love looking at the architectural design and visiting historical sites!
Nice place for all age groups
Great place to relax, during summer it perfect place to go mountain bike and play frisbee with friends
There are numerous hiking trails to explore anytime of the year. Beautiful landscapes, creeks, fountains, and multiple grilling spots are available throughout the loop. Restrooms are well kept and heated in the cooler months. Too many activities to list.
William Olmsted had it right when he designed Cherokee Park. Green hills, valleys, hiking trails, fields, wildflowers, streams, and more!
Good for wheelchair nice cold air very you should go there
Beautiful park with plenty of different types of trails and nature areas.
Great when open. Its all closed off to cars right now
Nice place to spend an afternoon of walking
Beautiful,clean, nice trails, must see
It was closed off to road traffic, but it was nice to have the entire road to walk on.
Dog hill was so Lovely on Tuesday afternoon with all the cute dogs and their people. The loop is a nice walk or bike ride.
Nice place for familys to come and spend time out door
If you are from the east end of Louisville, and consider yourself a outdoors enthusiast and havent been to this park, I would almost be embarrassed to be your friend...lol. Seriously, the golf, walking track, and miles of hiking/hiking trails and big rock creek, theres a lot to do. Plus it was designed by Olmstead, who also did central park in NYC, amounst others. Frisbee Field, Co Cochran Hill or better known as doggy Hill, Hogans fountain, Big Rock Creek Park and picnic area, Christian Academy and the jockeys Club with Stables with horses and a track, theres even a trail that has its own bridge over 64 only accessible bye hiking or biking. Basketball courts, 3 bathroom v vicinity, archery range, and everyone you encounter is happy to see you. I grew up navigating this park, thank you Olmstead for such a great park!!!
Huge and well kept park. Tons of trails both for road bikes, mountain biking and walking. Very scenic and wooded.
This park is very clean and well kept. Its a very friendly park towards pets, joggers, bikers and fisherman/women. I dont fear of leaving my vehicle unattended in this park.
Great place for a hike and for kids.
Beautiful trails running water and 200 year old trees.
I love Cherokee park... it is truly Amazing. I mainly ride mountain bikes in the park, I honestly believe it is one of the most diverse and well maintained trail systems in the area. I have been riding these trails for 17 years and still have a blast every time I ride them. There are so many different areas that you can make a dozen totally different rides out of them and it is never boring. There are trails for all riding levels except theres not really any extreme downhill or dirt jumping. It is definitely a cross country trail system but there are plenty of super technical areas and even a few small downhill runs with some small rolling jumps. If you love a challenge and some beautiful trails, you definitely need to ride Cherokee park... you will love it.
Its a very nice place to go and forget about problems, very nice and very relaxing.
Love this park and so do my dogs! It has some nice trails and very friendly atmosphere
Amazing Urban Forest that is easily accessible from anywhere in Louisville. Miles of hiking/biking trails.
Free, beautiful trails, inside the city limits, lots to do.
So where else can you be in the city but be in the woods? New Yorks Central Park has nothing on Cherokee. Mountain bike trails, dog park, and green spaces, one of my favorite places in the city.
Great walk, especially now being closed to traffic!
Love this park. Great for running and walking, with lots of shaded paths. The Golf Course is where I spend most of my time. This year it is exceptionally well groomed, and tee times have been spaced well. The course if tight, so unless you are confident in your big stick, you may want to play for strategy, not distance.
One lane of the main loop road around the park is reserved for pedestrians. This hike and bike lane is a cherished resource for any park, especially one in a city. The open spaces, hills, trails, facilities, old growth, connections to other parks, and location makes this park a real treasure to city residents and a must see for anyone visiting Louisville.
I Love it, wish I come afford a home there. I saw half brick half glass home its Beautiful
Went here to run a 5K on Valentines Day. Had a nice path for the run. Was very clean and family friendly.
Beautiful park. Me and my husband love walking and jogging here. The trails are beautiful too. Very relaxing and surprisingly quiet for it to be in the middle of the city.
Beautiful and family friendly. Has a little of everything for the nature lovers. Runners will have plenty of challenging climbs, bikers and hikers have good option for trails and plenty of spaces for dogs and kids to play. It is the perfect park for the Highlands.
