Fairmount Falls is a beautiful place to enjoy a short hike and take in a bit of nature. If youre planning on going you should note that parking is limited to 3 vehicles and the access to ghe parking area is controlled. Reservations are needed and may be obtained up to 4 days in advance. Keep in mind that Fri-Sun reservations fill up fast so plan accordingly. Also make sure youve good hiking shoes as parts of the trail can be a little slippery. My only reason for 4 out of 5 stars is because some of the trails were a bit overgrown and some trash had been found along the trails.
The trail was pretty good, though at times could be a little difficult to follow. The falls is not very far down the trail. if you want to visit, I recommend doing so after some sort of rain event so that you will have water going over the falls.if you do want to visit, you do need to contact the Jefferson memorial Forest visitor center and register. However, it is super easy and I would definitely recommend visiting this park.
Tiny but very nice. Big things come in small packages as they say. Definitely worth checking out. Its one of the larger natural waterfalls in the area!
Beautiful waterfall. My husband and I love hiking and searching for waterfalls and this one is absolutely fantastic.
The Trail itself wasnt all that great or maintained for that matter. The top of the waterfall was a really nice sight to see, however the real magic is finding your own path through the streams and making it to the bottom of the falls.
Its not as well known as say the parklands but it is still a nice hidden trail to take and depending on how much rain there has been will impact whether you find a waterfall or just a creek bed with puddles. You will need to contact Jefferson Memorial Forest to gain access as the entrance gate is locked.
Definitely was nice and it was easy to find.
Pretty place. If you dont live in the area its probably not worth the drive, though. The parking lot had 3 parking spots and a picnic table. Its a bit hard to find. Like others have mentioned you need to call ahead with your name and vehicle description/license plate to get the access code.Others have mentioned litter, but I didnt see any. Wondering if a fellow hiker with respect for nature picked it up. The hike itself is more of a walk or leisurely stroll. I think you could definitely bring small children as long as you keep them away from the cliffs and watch footing as you cross over top of the waterfall. The trail continues until you get to a sign that indicates the trail goes both left and right. Its a short loop that takes you along a small stream. As others have said, theres not really a clear way to get to the bottom of the waterfalls, and in my opinion the view doesnt necessarily improve if looking up at the falls versus down. Like all waterfalls in KY and IN these arent particularly impressive, but the limestone is beautiful and for KY I think its a nice little nature area. Im not sure why this would have less than 5 stars.
It’s really nice down here
Beautiful quiet spot, more a place to hang out in nature as opposed to hiking.
Drove a while to get here and the little parking lot was chained off, almost got the cops called parking off the edge of a side road. Guess there is a number to call and get the code. I just went to the lake near by instead of the bother.
Incredible Little nature area that only allows four groups a day. Which makes it even more amazing since when you are hiking through it, its as though Its our own private little hiking trail with waterfalls.Probably about an hour long walk, more if you explore a little. There is no pre-made path down to the bottom of the falls instead, you have to sort of make your own. Although you can tell some of the people that had gotten to go there mistreated it and littered all over the place. I would still definitely recommend going to this place if you have a chance.
A really great place to hike and enjoy nature just outside the city
Place was really clean and beautiful spots. I need to come back after a rain or snow melting to see the falls in full roar vs a small trickle. The only thing that would make this better is a clearly marked trail with paint or something similar.
Its really sad that theres a cable across the pittiful parking lot.
Hidden gem between Mt. Washington and Fern Creek. Easy hike to falls. Call first to check in.
Beautiful hidden treasure!
Very pretty ! Kids loved it too
Was a short hike with good change in grade and nice scenery.
Very nice waterfall!
Nice falls not too far to hike and so close.
Beautiful hiking trail, just dont forget to call before you start heading to the place.
Nature it.ll get you out of your funk. Plus vitamin D
The trail access is locked. There is a sign at the entrance guiding you to make a call and register your vehicle to obtain the code. The falls are a very short distance from the trail head. Getting below the falls can be a bit tricky for those lacking a bit of mobility however the remainder of the trail over the falls and through the forest is an easy hike. There are lots of deer ticks here (my dog was covered) so come prepared with tick repellant and brush your furry friend out if you dont want to bring them home with you. Be mindful if youre hiking with children as the top of the falls is probably 30 to 40 feet off the ground. Knee high socks or pants would probably a good idea as there are spots of poison ivy/oak. There are several persimmon trees along the trail making this a great trail in the fall for some ripe fruit while on the trail. I also saw two spotted fawns on my trip, there is an abundance of wildlife to be seen here. The trail isnt long and the entire thing can be done in a half hour or so.
Its a hike but so beautiful.
I really enjoyed this waterfall but for fair warnings the parking lot is extremely hard to find an gated. Only one car can fit from the road to gate an you have to call a number on the sign an give them your license plate number to get code to open gate. So if going on groups with more than one car load best for someone to be leading the pack a little bit just to get gate code an hate open. Parking lot is also very small.
Nice creek bed and a couple of waterfalls. Very peaceful.
Whatever you do do not park across the street follow the rules because if not the cops will be called to tow your vehicle thats the only downfall other than that very nice awesome place
Wildflowers are blooming. Beautiful falls
Great short hike and a Beautiful waterfall!
Make sure to call ahead for access to the park, it is normally chained off and you have to get an access code for the lock.
Beautiful falls. Be careful though- There is an elderly man, whom I guess lives at the end of the road, that got very aggressive with me, my 69yo MIL, and my 14yo daughter. He blocked our car in as we tried to turn around. We tried to explain we were driving by the falls and he was SCREAMING that we couldnt park there. We told him we werent parking but he continued to block our car and wouldnt let us leave. I had to scream back at him to get him to finally let us out- it was very frightening. We called the police to report but Im angry that we dont feel safe going back down there to look at the falls. I hope no one else has to experience that.
Not a park just a road
Stunningly beautiful. Worth the hike!
Read the sign.
Feels almost hidden away
Awesome family adventure
