Me and a large group of friends was told about Waverly Hills from a friend. He grew up as a child in the area, and knew its history well. So we ended up going 1 year for haunted house. It was cool, but not what we wanted. So the movie was made, and the minute the movie released, we bought a copy went home watched it. That day later on we bought flashlights, 2 way radios, and borrowed a couple hand held cam corders. Walked up the hill at 9pm, stayed all night, and left out at 5:30am or so. Our experience was life changing, and amazing all at once. This place has a way of making you obsess, and return again, and again. I personally have been 5x. 100% haunted, and 1 of the best times of my life.
Was traveling through the area and decided to make a pit stop and possibly take some far away pics. Unfortunately they have timed tours which didnt fit our schedule. Once we got here we saw its actually chained off with no visibility from afar. Wish they had better availability. We would have paid to walk the outside grounds and take pictures.
Took the haunted Halloween paranormal tour tonight. I traveled 8 hours and waited 7 years to get here. What your ticket DOESNT tell you: you cannot take pictures, even though it says haunted house/ paranormal tour. Why even bother going? I was rudely told to put my phone away. Why? Maybe because they definitely were NOT practicing social distancing on this tour. Why are they allowed to touch us if we are supposed to follow guidelines?. This was the biggest scam and a lie Ive ever been on, and Im a paranormal investigator whos traveled from one side of the US to the other. SELL AND DELIVER WHAT YOU ADVERTISE! STOP EXPlOITING SAD STORIES TO MAKE A DOLLAR IF YOU WONT EVEN ALLOW PICTURES TO BE TAKEN! This is clearly not mentioned! Will not return, and will give my money to a place with more class, and one that truly cares about their buildings history. I basically paid almost 50.00 to be treated rudely and given grade school scares while being crowded. Dont waste your money
My friend and I did the Haunted Halloween Ghost Tour tonight, and it did not disappoint! Combining a haunted house experience with an actual ghost tour was a great idea! The staff and actors were so friendly and all obviously cared very deeply about the place! We will definitely be coming back next year for the regular public ghost tour!
The history on this hospital is amazing. I would like to come back in the daylight with more time so I can actually look around. Even though the haunted house wasnt scary this year due to covid regulations, I still enjoyed it!
You know covid isnt that bad because they havent reopened Waverly yet
We went on a short historical/ghost tour that lasted about 1 1/2 hours and it was awesome! The group size of 25 could be smaller but it was still a great experience. Ready for a private overnight investigation now!
I really appreciate the strict rules for masks and I had fun during the haunted guided tour, only thing is the $40 ticket price and I didnt feel like I got that value but Im glad to support the conservation of a historic site. I would recommend going during tour season as you get a little more freedom to explore and see more paranormal things, other than that I had a great second visit at waverly and plan to come back. The actor for Timmy did a great job with the laughing
One of the best haunted house experiences Ive ever been too. It had a great projector visual show for a few minutes before we entered. Its worth the wait.
The Halloween Tour was awesome! The guides and actors were great! Very creepy feeling even though we didnt see anything. Cant wait to go back for the Paranormal Overnight Investigation!!
The 5th floor had an overwhelming sense of sadness and despair. Like the air was heavy, almost if you had just received news of a loved ones death. The crew was impressive and knowledgeable about historical events. It was a pleasure to know the proceeds go to keeping the hospital maintained and restored to keep its antique feel.
Waverly Hills had been on our list of places for several years and we finally decided to make a trip of it. The drive up to the sanitorium definitely set the mood for the night. It loomed large and eerie. After watching an informative video, we were divided into two group, one on the upper floors, and one on the lower. Our guide was fantastic, giving a very engaging speech about the history of the different rooms and wards. That is, until she started talking about specific manifestations and her flashlight, sitting on the shelf next to her began flickering on and off. With that she turned us loose into a free roam through our area. The other guest were very friendly and accommodating. We arent versed at all in the paranormal, and the members of our group who were were very inclusive with us, allowing us to see things like divining rods correctly answering questions and more flashlights flickering, with purpose. As far as our unique experience, we decided to go back up to the top floor a few minutes before the two groups switched places, and as we walked down the hall, we heard the sound of a ball bouncing. We turned to see a ball (there were several rubber play balls scattered around this floor) roll out from an empty room we had just passed. As we watched the ball rolled to a stop, then started rolling of its own volition back into the room. Very thrilling. If I had to make a recommendation, it would be to try to go when the weather is cooler. In an effort to preserve the building, the owners have smartly added windows to several of the floors. We went in August and even in shorts and t-shirts, it was sweltering. This is completely on us for underestimating the southern heat. As would be expected, their tours book very quickly around the time of Halloween. The next time I plan a trip, (because I will be back) I will plan my trip when they open for the Season in March. Definitely worth the trip for not just those interested in the paranormal and occult, but for anyone who wants a truly unique experience.
Its a great place if you are a history buff or spook thrill seeker. I went right before Halloween and I enjoyed the location. However, they had a really annoying scare actor that needed to learn when to shut up. He would loudly giggle and make jokes when I was trying to listen to the guide. I cant remember what she said because of him. Other than that, I plan on visiting again but not during the haunted house tour.
Great experience. Was worth the drive. My adrenaline was definitely going all through the tour. Our guide was great. Lots of knowledge and passion for what he does. If your remotly interested in this sort of thing its worth it if you can get tickets.
Go and plan on enjoying the experience, the history and intrigue of the people who were here. Ghosts, not so much, but your imagination will Definitely get you. Take a backpack w drinks, snacks and a flashlight that doesnt light up the world bc there are places you shouldnt have them but if you need to guide your step it will help. I placed my fingers over mine and barely illuminated my path in spots. Make the trek down the death chute just to say you did. We ventured to ourselves to lessen all the chatter.
Had been dying to do this for years. Seems like they just employed the first people off the street to do the tours. All were pretty much uninterested. The “scariest” floor was done by a lady that seemed half awake and kept checking her phone which was great. Her boyfriend even showed up halfway through who got a sloppy kiss during the speech which was just really weird. Place is creepy af, but ruined by amateur tour guides. Expected so much more seeing as this place is known internationally. Really need some actual actors.
I have been looking forward to coming since March to do the 6hr paranormal tour. It wasn’t a great experience for us at all, we didnt experience anything as it’s been lead to believe. I didn’t understand how the website states video/ recording is prohibited but yet several ppl were allowed to use their cameras and recorders and do flash photography. I tried to call Waverly 5 times the day of to ask exactly what we were allowed to bring and no one answered either time. Chelsea was very nice to us, but the whole experience and what you read about or even see on TV about Waverly didn’t live up to par. I will not return here as it was a waste of money.Yes it was an 6hr tour and it wasn’t guided at all just was told what floors we were going on.. also after reviewing my videos I took since everyone else did I did in fact hear things that I didn’t hear by ear or physically see and I will admit and apologize to what I said above. I was able to hear growling on the 3rd floor and that wasn’t the “demonic” floor, I also heard on the second floor after asking Tim who his “alter ego was” a whisper in a women’s voice said,” yeah it’s Nikki” we also heard on the same floor “she’s the devil” so yes I apologize and will be an adult and admit I was wrong and would love nothing more than to do a private tour to experience more. Again my apologies!!I also did call from 10am til 5 and no one answered on Friday day.I also know about paranormal I have it happen at my house daily and nightly.
I really enjoyed our haunted tour. Personally I don’t find haunted houses thrilling they just arnt real enough, but real paranormal stories mixed with people/actors creeping about the sanatorium mimicking the events being told was WAY better. I even jumped as I was engrossed in a story and standing with my back to an open door way. It was great, the guides were awesome, wish I’d come up with more questions or been able to see the body chute, but just another reason to come back and do an investigation when you know the sounds/sights you’re hearing arnt coming from actors and you can roam at leisure. There was a bit of political grandstanding at the beginning but despite whatever personal beliefs the multiple guides may have (it varied widely and they made it known), everyone did wear their masks, proper wearing was enforced and with the continuous airflow this ultimately felt like the safest most entertaining way we could have spent Halloween. Just remember you never know who’s in the audience my boyfriend and I are both in the public health and biology field so we definitely nitpick and they were very diligent. Overall the 6hour drive and money spent was well worth helping this great nonprofit that preserves this beautiful piece of history, I thoroughly appreciated all the hard work and dedication everyone put into this production and can not wait to book tickets for the spring.
Great historical landmark! Nothing quite like it anywhere....it is truly one of a kind. Great for tours and haunted house events! The tour guides are friendly and knowledgeable. The haunted house has amazing jump scares! Check this place out for an adrenaline rush unlike most others you have experienced!
Scary, dark, full of crazy stories, sad to know what happened to all of those patients. The staff does everything in order to make the experience unique. NO PICTURES ALLOWED, I guess to keep the cloud of mistery alive . Good experience.
Amazing Experience at the haunted tour. Went through the whole building 5 floors. Would definitely recommend.
A very awesome facility! The new entry to the hospital is very nicely renovated and the parking lot is excellent. Unfortunately I did not have a paranormal experience that night but I do intend to return again!
Really interesting place to visit, I will hopefully try to get in the area again to do a longer visit since just an hour is not enough time to get through all of the building.
Tour guide was super informative and funny. Cant remember his name but said he had been working there for 20 years! Highly recommend!
Absolutely best experience of a lifetime!100% Would go again.
A great experience but I feel like we was cheated on time the tickets clearly states if you are late the tour starts without you... well 20 minutes in we was waiting on late arrivals while the staff was clearly stalling ..the tour guide was great and very knowledgeable but 2 hours is a very short time ..less talking and more touring please.. well definitely go back once the private tours are available.
I would have gladly paid double for the historical tour. Guide was excellent, willing to answer questions and left me with a true desire to come back again. Book in advance, not gonna want to miss this if youre in town.
The staff was incredible. There is a lot of things changing and being renovated but even still they have awesome stories and some photos. They went out of their way multiple times to help us when my wife started feeling nauseated. Great experience, extremely bummed I missed the tail end of the tour and will be going back before it gets renovated to do a private overnight.
This place was amazing! Although our team didnt get much for evidence during our investigation; just to be given the opportunity to walk the halls of where the patients used to hang out, sleep, receive sun treatments, etc was awesome. The owners have done an amazing job with the place.
Do I have enough space to write everything that happened to me?!? Got called by name not just first name either, went to the next room couple doing EVP my name called out again through their evp. Walked down hallway with my sister and she said I see something behind us and I said no its your eyes adjusting to the dark, well she snapped a picture I posted it, i dont think Ill be going back anytime soon, lol.
Ive gone several years in a row now, our guide Chelsea is absolutely wonderful! Shes incredibly knowledgeable and has a real passion for the building and all of its residents. Cant wait to come back!
Spent Halloween and a full moon there! Amazing history and great guides
What a great experience! Our guide, Chelsea, was very knowledgeable and had a great rapport with the various spirits at Waverly. I highly recommend going here if you’re interested in haunted locations with high activity
This year for halloween was different due to covid, ive never been before so I dont have much to compare it too just what others have told me. They did a combo of tour and haunted house, while listening to the guide give historic info and the stories they have personally seen of spirits, dressed actors will come stand behind to get a scare. I wish we were able to take our time walking down the halls instead of being rushed by the guide. Also wish we could go in the basement and the rest of the death shute. I am very interested in doing an overnights, ita id decently priced. 75 for public investigation which is 6 hours or 100 a person for all night private investigations but you have to have 10 people, 1k total.
Off the wall, Interesting stories of the past, haunting!!!
It was awesome!!! There is lots of activity. We had 13 people and did the 8hr private overnight. We saw shadows, footsteps, doors shutting, balls rolling, talking and slight physical contact. Cant wait to go back!
Worth the trip. Alot of weird things going on in that place. The body chute is the scariest.
It was not worth it. Unless you are just wanting a mini tour. You do get to see all 5 floors but the actors are lazy and rude. Beautiful place and like the tour. However there was nothing haunted or scary about it. That part is a joke. Tour guides are clueless except for a girl name Chelsea. She was fanastic and learned alot from her. So if your wanting something to scare you then this is not it. If your wanting to see waverly then its worth it.
First off Could not wait to visit!! Heard so much about this place as far as paranormal activity. Took a day tour only due to timing of being in town. Our tour guide was very detailed and such a fascinating place to see. To see how back in 1926 how state of the art a place could be was amazing. During the day the energy was very even keel and loving. Some spots you felt differently..but great tour to take and so worth the money!
We went on the 10pm tour. While the tour was informative it seemed rushed. Also the group size was large and some people were very rude to other people who were trying to enjoy the tour as well. The tour guide was knowledgeable about the hospital but definitely took the eeriness out of the tour.
This was my second visit this year and it felt like seeing it for the first time again. It was 97 degrees outside but the owners and staff were so accommodating in anyway they could from checking on us, making sure everyone had water and warning us beforehand to come hydrated and ready. The Historical tour was amazing, entertaining, emotional and full of history and paranormal stories. Owner Tina as always was a delight, both tour guides were very knowledgeable and entertaining . We had Dale as a guide this time and I personally have to thank him for making this a great experience!
So upset it was closed couldnt see from the gate. Just wanted some pictures. Drove 4 1/2hours for disappointment.
You like Spooky go for it ~
We just took a tour for the first and definitely not last time. The staff was amazing, the history and details were so involved. Even doing a daytime tour you could feel... something in the air. Its understandable why this is considered the most haunted place in America. The staff in particular made our experience. In case they read these reviews... thank you from my husband, I, and our service pup Bree. We made it home to VA and hes just about recovered from his medical ordeal.
We had a blast for our overnight investigation with our group! If you get a chance talk with Mel! She was great help, and very knowledgeable about everything on! Highly recommended you see this place in person.
My best friend and I loved it. Thanks so much for the tour.
OH MY GOD! IF YOU LIKE TO BE SPOOKED THEN THIS PLACE IS A DEFINITE MUST VISIT FOR ANYONE BC IT NEVER DISAPPOINTS
I went here last year with my mom for a 6 hour investigation. It was awesome! I loved the stories that the workers told us and being able to walk around and try and catch paranormal activity was so fun. It was such a thrilling experience! 10/10 would do it again.
A must for the paranormal buff! The tour was fantastic! It was awesome to see in person what I have seen on TV so many times.
If you like haunted houses. During the Halloween Season they have a good display. Also, I have been able to experience the overnight stay and that is interesting as well. The second picture, no one from our group was there. All were accounted for in a different area.
If you do the overnight tour don’t expect to be ableTo see because you aren’t allowed to really use your flashlight. That was pretty annoying. Touring in the day time would be better!!!! They warned us about possible snakes and to be careful but how the heck are you supposed to If you can’t use your flashlight to see where you are going or if there is anything in your path etc
Loved it. Totally want to go back and see it again. Definitely worth the price to go.
Rebecca was an AMAZING guide. Very knowledgeable, very playful and she insisted everyone KEEP THEIR MASKS ON !!The tour was fascinating and we had many unexplained sightings and feelings. It was great! Highly recommended!Ask for Rebecca!Oh, don’t forget to buy a T-shirt or postcard BEFORE the tour...
Our group had an amazing time. The your guide was fun, energetic and informative. We will definitely be going back!
This place is so freaking cool. Was there a few years ago and the tour seemed much longer back then, plus the tunnel was still open.
Ive taken many tours here and they are always excellent! The tour guides are passionate and knowledgeable and it shows. Thanks to the owners for sharing the property and all the tour guides, including Dale, Renee, Zhaleh, and Terry.
Our paranormal teams booked an overnight investigation along with a stay-over in the new bunkhouse. Waverly Hills, even on a slow night, never fails to deliver. This was our first night in the bunkhouse after the investigation. What a fun experience THAT was! It was like a big slumber party. Tina and Charlie (AKA Ralph) have lovingly created a wonderful way to extend the experience. The new facilities are uniquely awesome! Though we were all too tired to stay up and investigate there in the bunkhouse, we truly enjoyed ourselves and enjoyed seeing where the body chute ends. Even more so, we enjoyed the natural beauty in seeing that part of the grounds. The deer were all around us, including some adorable fawns! Do yourselves a favor, pay the extra $$ to stay in the bunkhouse!
Its was the best experience in a haunted house attraction ever!!! I work there!
Very spooky!
Our tour guides were amazing and very well informed.
We enjoyed Waverly hills very much. I went with a Paranormal group and there was lots of evidence that we were most definitely not alone. I definitely recommend. Run up to the Bobby Mackeys bar just north, too! Also a great time!
This was one of the most intense things I’ve ever done. Can’t remember which floor it was but it was the one where the man was pushed down the elevator shaft.. anyways me & three others were inside of that room trying to communicate & honey did we!!! I was immediately touched on my left shoulder while sitting down on that small step. I instantly jumped up & lost it for a second because it was scary af. After calming down a bit I was touched again on my right shoulder. It felt like a warm tingle sensation. My group & I saw two full blown spirits orbs with our own eyes right infront of us inside the room with the chandlers. We also had a emf reader & layed a flash light beside it to obtain energy for the spirit and it lit up until it turned red twice! My moms backpack got tugged on I believe the 3rd floor. We also stayed at the top of the Shute but we asked if anyone was present to make a noise and I kid you not we heard a loud knock twice.... double back later & it did it again. We captured multiple Live Photo’s with moving orbs & mist. Lastly, I just realized I have a foggy looking figure either walking up the Shute or standing along the wall. I am now home & have finished smudging & praying but still uncomfortable alone lol. It’s 12:30 pm and every little noise is freaking me out. This place is not to be doubted or played with period.
I loved it. It is a wonderful place where you can scream a Lot. I just recommend not to be the first one in the group, stay in the middle or something. Ill be glad to come back another night to enjoy the place completely.
Such an amazing place. Staff was super friendly ams knowledgeable. Had a few experiences. Definitely wldth the drive and price of admission. We will be back for the overnight tour soon
Very interesting historical place. Recommend a daytime and night tour to see it from all aspects.
We had the VIP mini-tour and haunted house admission. The tour was really cool. There is very little to no light. Was concerned about navigating the halls but your eyes adjust pretty quick. The tour guides are very informative and are happy to answer any questions you might have. Strongly suggest anyone interested to go check it out. The haunted house is really good too.
Chelsie is an AMAZING Guide and we were blessed and our experience enriched because of her!! Definitely take her tour, if possible!! She respects what is at Waverly, and thats extra special!
We had to wear masks and the tour was set up differently but still an amazing experience.
I so want to be able to tour this building but have not yet been able to obtain tickets I was wondering if we are allowed to walk the grounds and look at the building from the outside without a ticket?
This is a very interesting historical site. The tour is very cool. The haunted house is very good and almost 40 minutes long. I highly recommend.
We did an overnight paranormal investigation a while back. The history of this place is both amazing and disturbing. It’s amazing how far we have come with medical advances in the last 100 years. So sad that so many people had to die, and they died here a lot. Crazy night. Very creepy place. We didn’t get much in the way of evp’s or photographs but we had a great time. I got an IR shot of a face floating at the bottom of the body chute. We want to come back and rent out the entire place on a weeknight. 50 plus people was too much to have any quiet alone time with the ghosts.
Waverly had such a good environment that was spooky yet calming. I always like exploring and checking out all the historical pieces and decaying walls and other old details that are left from the 1800s.Everything was very nice and enjoyable but the customers keeping their phone lights on...that can happen though.Over all it was a very enjoyable experience and I came all the way from Metro Detroit, Michigan. I would absolutely love to spend a night there.
I had a very emotional response in the hallway on the way to the lobby. I felt so much sadness and despair I broke down and cried. I didnt make it past the 3rd floor, I was drained and went back down. Everyone one else saw the shadow people and my son believes he saw the creeper. Evps were plentiful and interesting.
Would enjoy looking through the building
It was cool! Disappointed in group size n not able to go down chute.. But will return some time
Great tour and beautiful property.
My grandmother used to work here when it actually was open and Ive always wanted to go check it out myself and finally got the chance to this past October and it was everything I had expected. Love, love, loved it!!! Cant wait to go back and get an actual tour or do the overnight thing.
While there were no ghosts jumping out at you, it is still an eerie place. They keep the atmosphere that way by limiting light and flash photography. This hampers making memories via pictures. A lot of my pics turned out black! We went on a two hour tour which I felt was adequate. The history of this place is incredible. On the downside, our group was too large. There were about 25 in our group. It should be limited to half that. It is just too hard to hear what is going on with this many. The building itself is impressive but in all actuality, it is just a shell, having been gutted by looters and vandals years ago. While it is a spooky old building, I think the eeriest experience was standing outside in the darkness and staring up at its looming presence with the moon and night sky in the background. Alas, I saw no specters!
Really enjoyed the story plot and the scenes were awesome..
Great experience! Fun,fun,fun
Can check this location off my bucket list. Waverly Hills was an extraordinary place to visit. The owner, Tina, and the tour guide, Ernie, were extremely friendly and very helpful. I will definitely recommend!
I did the overnight tour here and it was so awesome. The tour guides were great. I would love to come back and do it again someday. I drove over 9 hours (one way!) just for this place and it was well worth the drive and the money.
We went here for my best friends bachelorette party and it was awesome! I became out of breath at one point walking down the body shoot. Its a beautiful building with very interesting history. We had a great time!
Great “haunted house”! The three stars are because it just didn’t meet expectations. We drove from Indy expecting something extraordinary and instead left with just a very a average run of the mill. Great for locals! Not worth a long trip. Waverly Hills, utilize your back story more!
Great haunted house. Doing an excellent job of scaring people
Awesome place. Had a great time the guilds are all great and friendly.
A very spooky place with a very knowledgeable staff. Had a great time we have to stay overnight next time.
