We love this place! Its relaxing (no lifeguards, kids can bring floats, and even pets get in the water!) and the water is perfect. There is a rope to swing on over the water and of course the Big Rock to jump from. Lots of people bring a cooler full of beer and just sit back and relax. So much better than a public pool! The only downside is the shores are littered with sharp little rocks and shells, so I prefer to wear shoes in the water.
A true living landmark for Louisville. We use to play there as kids in the 1960s and its even prettier today. The trials are wonderful, but also great playgrounds for the kids.
The small falls at this location are very pretty. Close to the neighborhood where I live and a great place for a family outing.
Big Rock has lots of space, shade and wonderful views and can accommodate many gatherings all at once without people being too much in each others way. Beargrass Creek runs through it, and provides ample opportunity for wading although this is not something that is recommended. Officially, the creek is not suitable for himself CB use but if you go there on a hot day, you will see pretty of people in there cooling off.
I simply LOVE Big Rock Park. This is important to note: DO NOT SWIM HERE. ITS WATER IS DIRECTLY FROM THE SEWERS. (Admittidly, my family and I didnt know the name until just now when Maps asked me to review it, so we always call it the Cliff Park. ) My 2 favorite trails are the trail on the cliffs, along the river; and the hike to Cherokee. The cliff trail is 0.44 miles from the parking lot to the end of the trail. Its a beautiful trail, but Id recommend not taking children under 3 and to have 1 adult for each child under 6. The hike to Cherokee is 1.51 miles from the start of the trail to the end. Its about 2 miles from Cherokee to the Big Rock parking lot. In all we walk 4 miles going to Cherokee. Its an amazing place teeming with wildlife; we saw HUGE caterpillars, deer, rabbits, dragonflies, crawfish, and more. 5 stars for sure, its a great place to go with the family!
Nice little park with stream. My grandson enjoyed the playground and walking in the stream. Bathrooms were open, but discusting.
Had a wonderful time it was a beautiful fall day quite warm and took wonderful photos!
Nice to be near water. Can be crowded and have tons of trash, unfortunately. Take care of the parks and nature, yo!
Always a wonderful place to go since I was a kid. Definitely a great spot for a good dip or a good time
We love big rock park! Beautiful setting, cool water, fun to play...but someone graffitied all over rocks and playground equipment and left beer cans everywhere. That makes it less nice, especially for familiar.
One of my favorite places to visit in Louisville, beautiful and clean. The only reason I deducted a star is due to the condition of the Pavillion.
Great place to just relax and listen to the water flow.
Beautiful park with an awesome little water hole! Just wish people would pickup their trash
A beautiful little creek in the middle of the city. Perfect for a hot day.
Love this park, many good times have been had here. Diverse trails enjoyable for all levels of hiking. Most of it is dirt trails that transition into rocky areas. Some areas you can climb and overlook the entire park, beautiful view. Great place to go in the summer, jump off the big rock and swim in the creek.
Its a really nice park with lots of activity and good vibes hiking trails and bike trails I always have a great time its beautiful
Beautiful Rock ledges & serene creek running thru the creek
I dont remember going here. Maybe I was stoned (Dad joke)
Nice place for people of all ages
My First time going here with the family and our dogs and we loved it going back again real soon.
A Louisville classic, beautiful areabin the park, dont swim there though !
1st time in yrs I took my doberman out there nice clean and no drama
Small park with a stream. Water is clear and not deep. Many kids play here. It is suitable for family with children.
Water was clean it wasnt crowded people socially distance it was great
I love it. Its my own private paradise, but I share. Lol.
Our home away from home for the summer.
My great granddaughter enjoyed playing in the water. Her first time there
Great natural water features and cool water. It is definitely worth the swim.
Awesome place, very family friendly! Took a quick walk through the trees, ran into some kids smoking weed, a lot of mud, and a dead deer. Good times.
Local jem. Free family fun.
Super closed to cars. But the place is gorgeous.
Another favorite place of mine but now that cars cant go thru park hard for me to get to Hogans fountain and other parts of the park.I need my van with me.
This place is alot of fun for picnics. They have playgrounds and a rope swing plus two different falls that when you sit comes over your shoulder. The only things I had a problem with not enough parking and nasty bathrooms.
Absolutely best for a family. If u havent gone....u simply havent...
Cant wait for summer to enjoy another dip in the pond at this great Louisville park. Its small, but its so close to Cherokee, it seems almost like its part of the same park. Fun for families and all!
Learning new ways to be with nature is exciting. Loved it.
Calming. Water you could walk into if y out chose. Rocks! Picnic table shaded under beautiful trees everywhere. Dogs being walked. Handicapped easily accessible bathroom. The bathroom was actually open. Tidy too. It is not commercialized.Seemed like it was just there. I get my cell phone in the car. No pictures.. Enjoyed this too. I will take pictures the next time I visit and post them.
Just a nice place to go and take my grandsons and family
Im new to Louisville but this park is huge and beautiful. I will be making regular visits
Big rock is a beautiful Park the water is a little dirty but I have seen many people swim in it during the summer down toward where the rock is you can jump off the rock if the water is deep enough at that point in time. The rock formations are beautiful to look at and fun to climb. Theres plenty of trees and water little walking paths and a park to play in and a field where you can kick a ball around. People visiting this area of Cherokee Park at Big Rock tend to be very friendly and want to make friends and have a talk. And as an adult if youre walking around you may find some other adults fishing or swimming that may offer you a beer. These people are friendly and usually just traveling through and stay in the park as Travelers do. But it is safe for kids and the parking area is large enough that you can probably find a spot to park. Pretty fun place in general.
This was fun, we took the dog here and kids and walked the creek.
Could use more play area. Love the creek and paths next to it
Always clean! Pet friendly, lots of bike paths, hiking paths, Creek, nice neighborhood
One of my favorite hidden gems in Louisville! I love to take the kids into the creek. Occasionally we will find some interesting items in the water, but over all its pretty clean and well taken care of. Kids love it
Lovely and Peaceful Park. Love the water stream.
Big T rock Cherokee park is an iconic meet up spot in Louisville since the late 1800s. A great place to meet or just chill and in the summer a great place to cool your heels in the creek.
My mom used to take me, and my sister here when we were young, and I took my kids here when they were children. I love this place, and the playground and creek are both fun for kids (big and small). Its good for picnics, although a bit buggy, and I havent used the public restrooms here in years, but they were pretty nasty last I did. The playground area up the hill (which I also loved to take my kids to) has, or had, slightly nicer restrooms, theres also a fountain available to play in at that playground during warm seasons. You may want to go elsewhere to use a toilet. The lack of sanitary (and handicap accessible) restrooms is why Big Rock gets 4 out of 5 stars.
Great place to take pictures
This is a place we have many memories as a child. Its more grown up than I remember. Needs a little more upkeep. It has two small falls you can sit and it goes over your shoulders to stay cool. Plus I rope you can swing out when you across from big rock. A playground and 4.5 mile trail.
Very sentimental place to me with lots of memories. Please pick up after yourselves help us keep the part clean. would love to speak to someone about funding for a mural and or a possible frisbee disc course partially paid by Patriots and hopefully gain funding from either the state the park or by doing events that are family friendly that raise awareness picking up after ourselves because this is our planet and what we put in it is what we get out of it kind of like our bodies. Enjoy the park and feel free to communicate with me if you have any insight thank you and have a blessed day!
Had fun playing on the rocks
Way too busy in the weekends. Not enough parking. Love it on weekdays, though! Go a little farther upstream or downstream to find crayfish.
Cool your feet in the creek!
Good place to pass evening. Quiet and peaceful. Nice trail, great place for playing golf, tennis. Very nice colorful during fall.
Put my feet in the water and didnt get a rash. Id say it exceeded expectations. Nice clean park. Thanks Mr Olmsted.
Lovely park for the kidos
Good, clean park! Been here several times with my kids and they love it. Lots of nature. Big flowing Creek where I taught my son last year how to find crawdads. I definitely recommend this park if you enjoy nature
Great place for families! Be ready to be surrounded by lots of kids, some dogs, and people being loud and with music. In other words, fun place in the park to be with your family or friends! Should probably go somewhere else if you want to be in a quiet area, especially in the weekend or holidays!
Trash was everywhere bathrooms were very dirty was not clean at all
I love this place its safe for kids and pets .
Great place to spend with family or friends
Attended a wedding celebration there. Great time! Accommodations were very good. Really good place for a celebration or just a day out!
Nice place to enjoy the nature with a stream and elevated lands with lot of trees. Big rock and parks are also these.
Beautiful little place to sneak away in the city. I grew up visiting this park and it’s just as calming and peaceful as it was so many years ago.
Took the Kiddos here they had a blast
Its a quick and easy nature reprieve for me. There are many places to relax in and feel far away in nature. The creek has a few small waterfalls along its path helping add to the experience. Its also family friendly with a small playground, tables, benches and bathrooms (open seasonally). Parking can be challenging when its busy with only a few small lots.
The scenic natural surroundings consisting of lush trees and rocks contrasting against a lovely lake filled with small waterfalls. Perfect place to relax... Or have a wedding
Honestly theres amazing photo ops here, plus free creek wading! So much fun
Scenic spot in cherokee park...
It offers a lot of natural beauty.
I loved this park . Such a nice quaint little hidden paradise. Not only is it beautiful my dog loved it as well and he got swim.
Beautiful Park with wildlife from Beargrass Creek.
Love this place #LouisvilleKymybackyard
The park during the day is nice and peaceful, some occasional stoners here and there but at night it can be scary and even dangerous. It truly depends when you go.
Beautiful and serene. Been going here since I was 7, Im 62 now. Enjoy it now as I did back then, except I dont jump off of it now
Fun place, good little creek spot.
The creek is perfect for little ones to wade in, but you have to stay out of the water after rain due to run off materials ending up in the creek. The playground is great. I only gave 4 stars because the bathroom facilities are dark and dirty.
Pretty cool watering hole
Always beautiful!! Olmsted new whats up!!
This is one of my favorite parts if Cherokee park because its so quiet
Love the park
Awesome place for those who live nature and outdoors!
Great time Except for the company I brought.. lol
Very pleasant location for picnic, family gathering and wedding
Fun Green space with walking trails and creek running through. There is also a playground and picnic pavilion in this area of Seneca Park.
I can remember going to Big Rock when I was a child now I drive through a few times a week at different times of the year just to see the leaves change the wild life at how much the park has changed over 40 years
Kids have fun
The shelter is in need of major upgrades and work. Restrooms are dark and dank. The scenery at big rock is amazing, but the grass is very high and difficult to walk through.
Swimming in the creek is great
We love jumping off the rock and swinging from that rope into the water!
We love this park. Great place to creek walk.
This is a great park! I like to walk my dog on the trails and let him play in the creek. I have lots of fun memories of the rope swing and playing in the creek. The only problem is the area by the big rock has lots of trash and broken glass.
Fun place to wade in the water.we saw snakes and little minnows and had a great time.
Amazing place
Nice park but a kid threw a glass bottle in an it busted an my child got cut the mother didnt even pick it up or get on her child about not a sorry or nothing!
