Great show. Went for the early show on Los Angeles eve. Shout-out to the host who gave some welcome airtime to single mom hood and provided grist and seamless segueing. Go. Not only will you not be disappointed, you will have a great time.
It took me about 30 minutes to recover and feel my face again from laughing. Fantastic show, great little bar, no minimum but the drinks were very healthy pours. Afterward, the comedians came out and had drinks with us.Grab tickets and check them out!
Super funny! If you’re out seeing comedy clubs, go to this one last! The rest of your nights won’t be a disappointment.
This was My favorite show. Its a very funny environment .I loved this show .
This was definitely one of my highlights from LA! The show was very funny, allowed the audience to interact and pitch in suggestions & tickets were reasonably priced!
My favorite shows to attend in LA. The best comedians Ive ever seen live.
Incredible place for a comedy show. The drinks are good, the comedy is good, and tickets are cheap. Good for a large group, a fun date, or a solo night out.
Two ring circus is very unstructured, I think I prefer a bit more speaking and scene
Incredible shows and comedy. Some of the best improve in LA.
Had so much fun in their intro Improv class!
If you are planning on your making your evening plans around coming to a show at this theater, this is a cautionary story. My BF and I are from out of town and had 2 evenings in LA and decided to spend one of of those evenings seeing the 8pm show at the Groundlings on 10/11. We were beyond disappointed with how the evening turned out.Because of the traffic in LA we arrived with only 20mins before the show and had not had dinner. We decide to grab a quick bite at a place across the street because the theater only had chips and candy bars for food. As 8pm approached my BF went to the theater to grab us seats. I was only 10 mins behind him, I arrived at the threater at 8:05pm for the 8pm show to locked doors. Staff refused to allow me to go inside even though my BF had an aisle seat saved for me inside the theater. Can I get a refund since I wont be able to see the show and you insist that every seat in the theater was filled? No. Can I go in between scenes when they black out the theater? No. Mind you my boyfriend was inside with a seat for me, and it was only 5 minutes pass the 8pm ticket time. There was absolutely no language on the ticket or in the online ticket confirmation email that said we would be completely shutout if we were only 5 minutes late. I insisted that my BF stayed inside since we had paid for the show and had driven through 50mins of traffic to get there. I ended up joined him at intermission. In the end, it was difficult to enjoy the show because of how things played out. I felt bitter, and franky rather embarrassed that I was left standing outside. There was no language on the ticket or in their email that warned us about this policy, so you can decide for yourself if its worth the risk of running 5 mins late with the way traffic is in LA. For us, how the staff handled the situation ruined our evening, and we felt like it was a wasted our time and money.
I was at the line when I asked one of the worker of the groundling he said just wait to line why you asking a lot. I really didn’t like the answer of that worker of groundling then I get in the show I ask one of the guy what is the name of that person he told me he is the manager of the groundling his name is Sam I really do not like him he was the manager it was really shame for him having such as bad manager
The two most prestigious schools of comedy improv in the United States are Second City in Chicago and The Groundlings in Los Angeles. The list of alumni that have graced the school is impressive to say the least. If you are considering taking classes here than just do it! I promise you wont regret it!
Get ready for hilarious, uproarious laughter.
Excellent place for shows had a great time
Ive seen a number of sketch shows at different theaters, and the Groundlings are truly in a league of their own. High production value, immensely talented performers, and a great facility. Ive yet to be disappointed. Definitely a must for anyone visiting Los Angeles, its no wonder SNL scouts talent here!
Came here for a show - it was a lot of fun. Funny improv. Would come back.
The shows here are hilarious and affordable, a great way to spend an evening! While I do like the sketch comedy shows, the improv ones are out of this world, the Crazy Uncle Joe Shoe in particular. I’ve been many times and never had a bad experience. The comedians who are in it are extremely experienced and have been working together for years.
Ive gone to a few shows, never disappointed. Highly recommended
Probably second only to The Second City in terms of being able to churn out great comedic/improv actors. Everyone should see at least one show here.
Went to a 10pm sat show. Loved it. Small theatre so everyone has a great seat. Live three piece band to keep the vibes up between skits. Cost $20, great value for a good laugh.
Great show and a fun time was had by our large (by Groundlings Theatre scale) group. The theatre seats 90 or so. Ive never been disappointed by a show after half a dozen visits
So I came here on Superbowl Sunday thanks to the lovely Lee Newton (a regular comedian @ The Groundlings) who was offering free passes to her twitter followers to come see her sketch comedy show. I get there and easily found the place. I got a seat in the very front (lucky me!) and right on time, the show began. It was HILARIOUS! The owner of the club came out frequently asking for the audiences suggestions on topics for the cast to act out and they delivered A class quality stuff as if they had practiced and rehearsed for hours! I couldnt stop laughing. At the very end of the show, everyone mingles in the lobby and I gave my compliments to the actors for the great job that they all did. I highly recommend coming to show here, youre in for a treat!
I really disappointed because the manager Sam was really rode with me I will never come and I will never recommend my friends to come at show no more
9/29/18: Top place for sketch comedy in LA, the Fri/Sat main show...been going for 13 years, 50+ shows...many memorable weekends...only a couple of bombs...if it stays consistent Ill keep going...
Some of the best true improv in LA... an institution for decades and one of the best deals in town.
It was my first time at this venue it was fun. Which we could of had some drinks during the show but there is a pretty looking bar across the street
Me and my friend John come together for show and the manager Sam was really rode and disrespect us we really don’t want come back any show of this groundling
This review is regarding the Sunday night show Desperately Seeking Sunday. This was our first visit to Groundlings. We have been to other comedy clubs and thoroughly enjoyed the comedy, but this was not the case for this show. Most of the acts were juvenile and we didnt find anything fresh, thought provoking or insightful. Some of the acts played on dated stereotypes which were also unfunny. Most of the show was short sketches/skits like SNL, but just unfunny. There was a short improv routine and the actors didnt seem to understand or use the situation very well and so both the sketches and the improv was disappointing. We were sitting on the inner side of the theater and couldnt get out as easily without disturbing many of the viewers, so we stuck it out until the intermission - it was painful. We immediately left once the intermission began and it appeared a few other people left too.To be fair, there were some people laughing. Comedy is subjective so to each their own, but the 3 friends I visited with were also sorely disappointed.Desperately Seeking Sunday is just one of their shows, so its entirely possible that they have other shows that are funny, especially based on other reviewers. But at least for this show that we saw on 11/25/2018, we could not recommend it.
Great show, you will love anything they have on. Darkroom across the street is a great place to hang out beforehand.
Seeing a show at the Groundlings Theatre is almost always a great time. The sketches and improv can be hit-and-miss, but that is to be expected at any such venue. Great location for grabbing a quick dinner and a great show.
We saw an improv show. It was very good. One of the comics in the troupe is a regular on Saturday Night Live. I would definitely go again!
The best comedy Ive seen. Took my son and it was quite the highlight of our trip to L.A. and Melrose. Must go!
Saw Groundlings of the Corn on 1/20/18. Top Talent deserving of performing their sketches on SNL. I laughed for 2 hours, loved the show, cant beat the price! 17 skits, great comedic timing and writing.
Fun night out. The Black Version was hilarious. The actors were so talented!
An absolute MUST if your in the LA area. I have been coming here for years and will continue to go as long as Im local....Go see these talented actors before they get big....in fact you will start to notice that the Groundlings are every where every time you turn on that TV. Shows, Commercials, Movies.....it really is AWESOME!!
Simply the best place for improv comedy. We particularly see the Crazy Uncle Joe Show on Wed and the Gas Show on Thu. The shows on the weekend are great, too.
Ive seen a lot of shows here. They are all pretty great. Favorite of the recents ones is The Gale.
An institution. I love Cookin With Gas on Thursday nights. You never know who is going to show up to perform. The most fun you can have in L.A. for under $20. Go. You wont be disappointed.
Awesome place to see shows and great classes for adults teen class were short
Taboo Tales is fantastic! And the venue, for their part, made ticketing and entrance graceful. Its a nice intimate venue where the mic is barely needed.
I really didn’t like at all special the manager
Great Comedy a really great night out.
Had a blast! Such talented people
Love it! I took basic with Navaris and it was the best thing ever. This school focuses on building characters and having the improv come from that. Loved it!
Not bad show
I visited from Seattle and I definitely fell in love with the shows at The Groundlings. I saw Cooking with Gas, a different late show (name??), and Groundlings of the Corn. I was just cracking up at all of the shows which doesnt happen to me frequently when I watch improv. I find improv enjoyable to watch but rarely hysterical, they got me snort laughing! Im an actress as well and definitely found them inspiring.
Excellent school, and the funniest shows in all of Los Angeles, if not the entire world. My face always hurts from laughing so hard. Catch the Friday & Saturday night Main Stage Show. Cookin With Gas is super fun on Thursdays. The box office staff is friendly and always helpful.
This improv institution belongs in the comedy hall of fame. Take a moment to scan the pictures posted in the lobby; youll be amazed at how many comedic greats have performed in this tiny theater -- and the show will not disappoint.
Loved it. Saw the Wolfgang show. Amazingly produced and hilarious performers. Must see!
Pretty good show the night I was there. The actors were kind enough to make themselves available in the lobby for casual conversation which is a nice gesture.
Enjoyed every skit!! Hilarious, kept us laughing the whole time!
Still one of the best places in tow. If you want to laugh. Parkijng is a bit problematic and y iu may have to walk a bit. Not the safest for the ladies. Try to sit opposite the band or it gets really loud in the theater. Take a walk around the lobby and see how many familiar showbiz faces you see in the old pictures. Good online ticketing system.
Very funny show...3rd time here and never disappointed! Only drawback is the stampede into the theater after waiting in an organized line.
They are LAs famous improv theater but the show on sunday was not improv but short comedy skits. It was funny but still I disappointed because I really wanted to see improv...the skits were funny but not side splitting. Music was amazing.. so overall the show gets 3 stars.
So talented and creative. Loved it!
Had a great time on a Sunday evening. Show was engaging and hilarious.
So much fun!!! The improv here is excellentYou wont be disappointed in a show here
My gf goes here and she loves it. Teachers are great and the shows are a must watch
Favorite place to learn and be entertained. 10/10 would recommend.
The show is excellent, with very talented actors. Parking is difficult and the theatre provides little guidance on good parking spots. Beware of parking on the side streets where permit is required. Signs can be confusing and you may find a parking ticket after the show.
I went Sunday night & there was not a skit that I didnt like! Theres not a bad seat in the house & the theatre is new. The lighting was also great.
The theater was quite large with lots of seating for a comedy place. They took audience suggestions and they have a small lounge to wait. There is no food or drink but very audience engaged.
They just redid the place so it looks nice and new. The intro class was loads of fun and worth the price.
Improv comexy. Awesome had a ball
Id give this place 5 more stars.. its that great!
Really amazing imrpov shows here!
Love getting to learn improv from the best in the business. Grounding school
Best improv training in LA! Awesome supportive comedy community too
So fun!!! Had a lot of laughs! Go! Even if you’re friends aren’t there!!
Iconic comedy and performance venue that trained some of Hollywoods best loved stars.
I try to go once a month, and I am never disappointed. I am especially happy when Jeremy Rowley or Jim Rash is performing...
Fun, intimate environment, laugh out loud funny, and wont break your wallet. No food or drink inside so grab a cocktail before, or afterwards... its a short walk across the street to the nearest bar.
If youre in LA, go to The Groundlings Theatre! This place alone made me want to move to LA just so I could see more shows. PLUS theres a school! Someday...
Great show, its been great all 6 times Ive been there...
Fun show, nice atmosphere, great improvising.
Absolutely love the improv shows here. Every time I am in LA I try to stop by a show here and they never let me down. I recommend parking on the neighborhood streets just behind the groundlings.
Great shows. Fun times. Many laughs. Thanks Goundlings!
If you visit Los Angeles, you have to stop and check out this place,, the actors are hilarious!! Great place! Great comedy actors are born here!
Saw Flo from Progressive and her team, they were unreal. DJ Pauly D was in the audience and loved it, so therefore, it was the best improvisation show ever.
This is a comedy must. We love this place -- so much so, that we are annual members even though we live in Norhern California. Their main shows usually kill although their totally improv shows can be impacted by bad audience suggestions, but its fun to watch them turn the audiences lump of coal into a diamond!
Oooohh! I cant wait to go back again! I laughed so hard my belly hurt until the next day! They dont serve drinks like some other comedy clubs. Thats ok.
I thought it was hilarious the first time I went but it hasnt not been the same the last two times. Its still is a nice place to go for 20 bucks.
So entertaining, had a great time.
SEVEN DEADLY SUNDAYS is an excellent show, and highly recommended!
We went during a show where they test out new material and it was just amazing. I dont laugh very often, but I was in tears during the entire set.
Usually a good show and pretty funny. Sometimes wish the show wasnt so long.
Great shows! I really enjoyed my visit.
Amazing school for improv!!! Plus, they have multiple shows each week full of hilarious comedy!
Had a blast. Cant wait to go back.
Super fun, little venue. Silly stuff for a few laughs.
Probably the most famous out of the improv schools. Known for producing talents such as Will Ferrell and Kristen Wigg. This place offers a wide variety of short and long form improv shows. Im particularly a fan of the Black Version, a monthly long form improv show where a bunch of celebrities do improv creating a black version to iconic movies/television. Because so many performers are future SNL stars in the wing, the tickets can get a little pricey, but if you need a laugh this is the place to go. Just be sure to buy your tickets early because depending on the performer the shows can sell out quickly.
When I went to PDC in November 09, I took my family with me. Wife and two daughters (17 and 13). We went to the Groundlings, and it was the highlight of our trip. I was a little concerned about the age-appropriateness of the material, especially with the 13 year old, and apart from an occasional f-bomb, it was pretty benign. If you are a serious blue-nose then you probably wont want to take the kids; actually ou probably wont want to go yourself.Jim Rash was the emcee of the event that night and he is seriously talented. We all enjoyed watching him on That 70s Show, and it was real fun meeting him in person.Other notables that night were Ike Barinholtz and Nicole Parker. Two of my favorites from Mad TV.We laughed and laughed and really had a great time. I cant recommend it highly enough!!!
Took workshop A fantastic class, fantastic instructor, fun environment
Hilarious! Well worth the admission!
