What a great hole in the wall comedy joint. Laid back bar, intimate showroom. Inexpensive by CA standards and comics who may not be well known...but deliver solid bits of standup.
My friends and I had such a great time at this show! All 5 comedians in the Saturday night lineup were hilarious - starting with Adam Burke (from NPRs Wait Wait Dont Tell Me) who was probably the funniest. Id love to come back here!
Excellent Location right on the walk of fame. The comedians are so funny I highly recommend catching a show here next time you are in Los Angeles. Pretty affordable too. Wonderful memories. Thanks to all of you for giving me joy and laughter.
Came here with my mother on friday night for an improv musical and it was AMAZING!! They do an improv show based on an audience recommendation, I had a couple of ideas but this girl was quick to recommend yellow cat. The show honestly seemed improvised but awesome. The actors and composer were VERY talented. I had an amazing experience, tickets were cheap and the place was small (60 ppl) so you feel part of the show. Will be coming back again very soon.
Saw Opening Night: The Improvised Musical! And it was phenomenal. Fro. The musical director to the entire cast, there was never a dull moment. I was in tears laughing! Great job, I will definitely be back!
The show was absolutely hilarious from the host down to the comedians! It was my first experience with stand-up comedy and I will definitely go back to this venue! The only catch was the 2 drink minimum per person in addition to the ticket fees. The drinks were overpriced as a result. The show more than made up for it though. What could be better than a night full of laughter?! It was definitely a fun date night!
Not quite as iconic as the original venue in Chicago but definitely worth a visit. Go ASAP!
Hilarious comedians on Friday night! Love that this place is a breeding ground of New York comedians. Maybe not for people that are very PC (kind of expected that I guess).I liked the atmosphere. The drinks could be a bit, OK a lot, better (did not try the food).
Good, solid comedy entertainment . Had a good time with my friends and the crowd. Had a 2 choice minimum ( appetizer or drink) .. a very limited food menu which is fine since I was not going to eat.Beverages are on the pricey end.
It’s so nice to enjoy a comedy show here because you pay for entry, and don’t have to worry about any drink or tab minimum.
Really cool spot to see a comedy show especially with all the greats from SNL and other shows that have come out of the Second City clubs. I saw a satire musical about the NRA in November last year. Tickets are super affordable for all the shows and its an intimate place to really get a good view of the people on stage. Would definitely go back for another show if Im in town again.
Even on a Wednesday night where the comics were testing out new material, I really could not stop laughing. Id love to see how much better it would be during prime time.
Great place in the neighborhood for a barrel of laughs with good friends especially on a rainy Saturday night.
I been to this comedy club many times and for some reason its probably one of my favorites.Yes they sit everyone on top of each other and the drinks/food arent cheap but hey this is NYC where nothing is cheap.
Good improv classes here. The levels outside of the conservatory are a bit more chill than Groundlings and UCB, which is nice when you’re just trying to learn the basics. That said, not all teachers are created equal. The teachers who are less invested have more chaotic classes which makes for much poorer scene work. So far, I’ve found Rich Baker to be the teacher who provides the most structured experience (I give him 5 stars). He truly cares about his teaching and has thought long and hard about what works and what doesn’t, and why. This helps to create a strong foundation for good scenes (scenes can derail so easily).
Great place to learn Impro and every th ing funny related.
My wife and I saw the play no more guns, what a hoot, I laughed and laughed! It was a great time. This kind of thing is a little out of my comfort zone, usually go to movies or a concert. This was much more fun, Highly recommend more Guns. The cast was great, and that NRA president, well the young lady that played the NRA president, rocked the show. She was so funny and could sing. Everyone was great and did a good job. No clock watching in this one (you know looking to see when its over) great from the start to the end, and whenever I here NRA now I chuckle and think of that young lady. Ok, just looked her up, Caroline Thrasher, she is GOOD!
4 plus stars for the comedy and service but def a few less stars for the food selection and quality of drinks. Still, a nice and entertaining night out that comes out to be fairly inexpensive and puts you in a great part of the city.
The NRA show was well written and funny. Very relevant in today’s world. Too bad the theater is handicapped inaccessible. If a visitor can’t make it up many stairs, there no way to enjoy a show.
My name is George Anton I’m a famous film director here in Hollywood google me do whatever you want with my name and I love this place five stars
I have gone here for 30 years. Many huge stars got their start here--Eddie Murphy, Jerry Seinfeld, Louis CK, Chris Rock--and some drop in unannounced to try out new material. Weekend shows usually feature and MC and 4 comics and last 2 1/2 hours. Weekday shows run longer.
Great show! Although the doors close right when the show starts and they do not let anybody in after that. Be aware. Other than that no complaints
I did the three day improv 1 class. It was awesome, I was completely out of my comfort zone walking in, I walked out head held high feeling confident. I would highly recommend. The staff are great.
My son took their three-day beginners improv course and loved every minute of it. The instructor was personable, caring, and energetic. Came away from it with a much better understanding of the process as well as a strong network of associates
Smart and thought-provoking performances every week. Try something new, look through their line-up and take a chance on something. Youre likely to be pleasantly surprised.
Excellent studio to take classes or see shows. Not nearly as popular in Los Angeles as they are in Chicago/Toronto, but that makes sense as its technically just a training center in Los Angeles even though they do put on shows in a small upstairs theater. This place wont get the same buzz as UCB or even close by iO West, but the quality of performers and instructors is on par if not better. Dont be swayed solely on the hype by comedy nerds around town. This place holds its own for sure.
Afros & Ass Whoopins was a great play. topics include prison industrial complex. slavery. police brutality, Black children innocence, If you go, you must get there on time. 8 PM(remember parking is tight).
Half of the troupe didnt even show up (so they admitted themselves) and they pulled a man from the audience to be the host. This wasnt a joke, he was stoned out of his mind and all he could say, over and over into the microphone, was they promised me $10 if I came up here. None of the comics were prepared, an elementary school play would have been more rehearsed than this. At one point the comics gave up, and started taking selfies with each other and exclaimed their boredom with the performance and the audience. When it was finally over, I expressed my horror and disappointment to the manager in his office and politely asked to be refunded. He informed me that there was nothing he could do to ensure the comics would be professional, as they did not come from Second City. No where on the site or ticket do they disclose this information, and you would think if youre going to Second City at a prime 8pm slot, youre getting a Second City troupe. So you never know what youre going to get...? He said we came in on a bad night but could not refund my family and I. As I was headed out of his office, most of the audience was outside waiting to express their disappointment as well. The most unprofessional, cringe worthy experience me and my family and friends have ever seen. Save your time and go to UCB or Groundlings for actual comedy and a really good time.TL,DR: This is not even worth $10 and I want my hour back.
Watched Cancer musical. It was a powerfull and humorous show with exceptional performances.
Im an alum from Chicago. Its the improv theater that is still focused on creating THEATER. Always challenging and touching as well as funny.
Really enjoyed the improv techniques and shows taught at Second City. Tina Fey is the face of this improv school and so there is a dry-humour I associate with Tina Fey that can be seen through the student/performers shows. Tickets are usually pretty cheap and there is never really trouble getting them. This is def a cheap date option.
Great Place, great to see Curtain Jerks perform there. Big fans
Called about tickets and if we should buy online or in person... guy on phone told me they shouldn’t be busy, and we could wait till we got there. Show was sold out when we arrived. If you have to go, buy ahead and Uber. There’s no parking and the shows sellout, apparently.
I have started taking my first Improv technique courses here at Second City, and Love, Love everything about this class and our improv teacher, Jamie! Everyone there is truly an amazing group of professionals and caring representatives at Second City! I strongly recommend that you become a Second City family member for life! The improv classes and educators are so talented themselves and most of them are currently working on TV shows and series, you wont regret it learning improv here at SC!
NO free PARKING!
Always funny.
The comedy and improv were ok
Hilarious!!
Not really bad...
If Miley Cyrus is there
Funny, far out writers
