Sparkling clean! Rock Reef is a positive delight. Nate made us feel so welcome. We snorkeled off the beach, enjoyed the hammocks, watched sunsets and lightening storms, grilled outside, kayaked, and had an amazing time. We saw bioluminescent jellyfish at night and a variety of sealife in the day.Our room was the two bedroom cottage and, though dated, was extremely well maintained. It was perfectly clean and had everything we needed.This is my new favorite place to stay in the Upper Keys! Thank you, Nate and Linda!

Wow! This place is fantastic!! Stayed at Rock Reef for 2 nights and we wish we had more time to stay longer. Room was perfect, equipped with a living area and a full kitchen. Location was outstanding, they have kayaks to take out and we even saw manatee while we were cruising around. Well maintained facility throughout, kind staff and great views! We can’t wait to go back;)

Beautiful place, a bit pricey but the room and the water access was phenomenal. I do think that the beach area could use a bit of TLC in the kelp/sea grass is a little overwhelming on those not accustomed to seas that are so calm.

Had a great weekend at this little gem of a hotel this past weekend. The rooms were immaculate, the staff very friendly and helpful. It was the perfect location for us to go snorkeling at John penecamp. The sunset off the dock in back was breathtaking.

The rooms are outdated, smell like horrible musty mold. And the property outback it was beautiful, but we did not look forward to going back to the room, no trash cans, the carpets cheap and rippled, the bedspreads are cheap, the coffee pot and amenities were lame.

This resort is an absolute gem that we will never drive past again! There were three of us in unit 9, and the room was immaculate and very large with a kitchen, sitting area, separate bedroom and ample bathroom. The front porch is the best feature of the room, with a porch swing and a million dollar view of Florida Bay. Don’t miss the bonsai garden - it’s impressive, and it’s clear that someone takes great pride in (and is quite talented at) raising bonsai tress of various species.Thank you, Linda! We will come back.

Positive: The availability of kayaks and a paddle boat. I also loved the bonsai garden. Pool was super. Negative: Might be nice to have some snack and drink machines.

We stayed in a little villa, and it felt like we had our own private beach. We loved taking the kayaks and visiting the manatees. Snorkeling off the beach was really fun and the sunsets were amazing. We cant wait to come back and enjoy waking up at sunrise to watch the dozens of iguanas running across the sand.

I am still shopping for a place to stay so I read the reviews and always like to see why someone would give you a poor rating, and in this case it only makes your place more attractive to stay at when I see that your place is promoting peace and tranquility! Good for you!

This place was wonderful. Quiet, quaint and very relaxing. Guests were friendly. Saw barracuda and small shark off the dock nice amenities. Clean, large rooms, beautifully well kept pool. Id visit again.

Positive: Great location. Very nice set up on the water with beach chairs, hammocks and kayaks. Negative: Bath tub was slow to drain. One tiny shampoo for four people.

We were visiting Key Largo for scuba diving so we decided to stay at Rock Reef Resort which is less than 3-miles south of the scuba charter docks, making it the perfect base for a few days of diving and to explore the area. The hotel is the quintessential Florida Keys resort — small, locally owned and with a friendly staff. Choose between stand-alone cottages or standard hotel rooms, some with complete kitchens. While the interior decor was slightly dated, our room was clean and very comfortable. Because the resort is on the bayside of the island means this is an excellent place to watch the sunset and their pier, complete with cabana, has the primo vantage-point. One of the highlights of the resort are the free kayaks which you can launch right from their small beach to explore the shallow waters surrounding Key Largo — go just before dusk and watch the sunset from your kayak. A small pool, hammocks, boat slips for rent and a quirky bonsai garden round out the other amenities worth mentioning. The prices were very fair for the quality of the resort so I would highly-recommended.

Great quiet place to stay. Staff very friendly and went out of the way to make us feel welcome. Took a Rock Reef supplied kayak out on the bay and got to see dolphins swimming not to far off of their dock. Precious sunsets.

The best, most relaxing place to stay in Key Largo. We’ve been coming here for 10 years with our daughters. It’s great for families—has a pool, beach, grills, hammocks and the best view! Great location near restaurants. Rooms have kitchens, so we love to buy local fish and produce to make meals. A tip is to go buy a whole Key lime pie from Mrs. Mac’s and bring it back for your stay.

It is exactly what you want from a friendly locally owned motel. It was a little tight parking for my 21ft boat but they were more than accommodating. Nate was fantastic in accommodating our party of 7 last minute. We will definitely be back.

If you want to have a real keys experience then this is the place for you! I used to live down here. The beauty of this place is the size and the Beautiful Waterfront. Makes you feel like you have your own home on the water. Fishing is great at night off the seawall.swimming is great on the private beach.rooms are clean and have everything you need.Manatees at night swim by the docks.free kayaks.quiet and relaxing.A must to Capture the TRUE KEYS EXPERIENCE. Also it is located on the Bayside most people dont know if youre not staying on the Bayside you dont get the Magnificent sunsets. A tropical retreat with beautiful sunsets and rainbows and views of islands cannot be beat

Linda was such a joy and helped me make my parents anniversary stay perfect! I did not stay there but they said it was beautiful and she helped me surprise them with an extra special treat! Greatly appreciate her going above and beyond to make their stay extra special!!

Wont allow jet skis there at all. Even if youre staying there. Dont waste your money staying somewhere that is against certain types of water crafts. Find another place to stay!

So of all the places Ive stayed I find it hard to review this place.Pro-the view is amazing in the backThe grounds are beautifulIts across the street from a Tom thumbsThe owner had us set up for a late night arrival and the office was closed, it went smoother than normal.The owner let us park our trailer at her house because it couldnt fit down their road.Con -we had a noisy street viewOur room was not to par. It was falling apart and not very clean. The super fancy wood floor under the fridge was a beautiful addition ( plywood ).The beds are very uncomfortableThe owner made a rude comment about my special needs childs lazy eyeSomeone dumped something on my carSomeone set the alarm off on my car at 4amTo many rules ( yes your vacation is policed )We were not informed of the everglades national park being with in half a mile out, not very good for getting lobster.we had to pay to put the boat in at the ramp up the road no way they can accommodate a 22 ft boat at their ramp ( we were told it was a possibility before we got there)As we had the boat and paid to use the dock my brother who was staying up the road asked to park on the grounds so he could come out with us. The owner made him pay $10 per person in the vehicle to get a parking pass for 1 day and then told him he had to leave by 10. Humm so he paid $21.00 to get a pass for 7 hrs.I had to ask 3x for house keeping to stay out of the room. If they connot do their job when the room is empty why would I let them in with all of my stuf ?This hotel is more for a honey moon or couples retreat. Older couples, or a work related trip.

Really enjoyed my stay here. Only downside was that the bathroom was a little small, and the beds were rather old and worn. But the pool and the private beach out back more than made up for it!

Very unhappy with this place. U cant have Jet-ski on property and also cant have any Gest visit while u our here. Really with I read the fine print they told me. So before u book a night read this post. We came here to visit and to enjoy our vacation with family and friends, and also they tell u this is the only room available so u have to book right away so u dont lose it. Because this place (the keys) is a magic place so again read the fine print

Had a reservation to stay here over Holiday weekend however due to tropical rain will be postponing trip. Although I understand the no refund policy due to weather, I do not understand not being able to transfer the deposit to another weekend. They have now lost a new customer who visits the Keys every year. There are certainly enough places for us to take our business elsewhere.....enjoy our deposit money.

This is a very nice older place. The manager Nate is so helpful and very friendly. The grounds are very nice and clean. We are enjoying our stay here.

Great hotel, very clean, the owners and the staff are very friendly, they try the best they can to make sure you have a good time while at their hotel. The pool is brand new, the hammocks around the property are fantastic, under the shadow of the trees, and in front of the water, under the palms. We stayed for a weekend, (2 nights), and will definitely come back for another mini-vacations, or a longer stay. The beach is not the greatest, but this is really hard to find in the keys. The court yard with the bonsais is beautiful, you get to see a lot of iguanas. We loved our stay, and the price was very reasonable, actually, lower than other hotels in the area with less amenities and worse reviews.

The view here is great, and they have wonderful hammocks and tables facing the water. They also have canoes for use and a great waterfront. This is a really nice place to spend a day relaxing. The utilities in the rooms can be a little wonky, but nothing thats too bad.

Previous Visit ->Moldy....moldy, musty, MOLDY! Hard to breathe. Moisture bag in closet. Stayed after Hurricane Irma. The date on moisture bag : Date of August. BEFORE hurricane Irma. VERY ANTIQUATED. Acceptance of our service doggy for our child was only plus.Very disappointed next time we needed reservations. We were able to book a reservation, but when my wife showed up with service doggy, they said many stories to my wife saying theres no vacancy. I called later without telling them I was the husband. I asked if there was vacancy and low and behold, there sure was! When I revealed myself there were many stories again. Im pretty sure theres laws against refusing service animals & then When informed of ADA information they still were demanding a deposit! Very disappointed.

Nothing great about this place. Funny because Its a no pets hotel but....there was dog poop everywhere, close to the dock, by the pool grounds, obviously there is a dog on the premises and they dont pick after it. Rooms are very small but they were clean, owners are not very accommodating if you have an special request, check out is by 11am sharp!... cannot use boat ramp unless u pay for docking fee. We wouldnt stay again needless to say.

When we drove in we didnt think much ...After walking the property it was a hidden gem water front with a beach Room was clean and resent remodeled pool was refreshing. Relaxing atmosphere with paddle boats & kayaks included. The owner Linda greated us like family suggest a different room than the one booked more room for just the 2 of us. Then Kinda suggested a local spot for lunch what a treat. So I say Thank you to our new stop on our trips the keys

Nice family run motel, clean and quite rooms, reasonably priced. Friendly staff. Nice beach and lovely bonsai garden. Close to attractions and restaurants. If we get to Key Largo again we will definitely stay there and recommend to our friends.

Slightly expensive for the room we received (3) pool was good. The fridge in our room needs replacing, noisy and rusty.

The atmosphere is lovely here and the place is just beautiful. The staff have been happy, friendly people and have been exceptionally helpful, have gone out of their way to help us.

I am torn as to how to review this property. There were many things to like:The staff were very helpful and accommodatingThe grounds are very nice and spacious- there is a lovely pool and nicely appointed area that overlooks the water.The bed was comfortable, and the location is great.However, the room was disappointing: it was tiny (room 21),smelled musty, and is badly in need of renovation and updating.

If youre coming here to fish, dont bother.The fishing pier is just a small extension to their boat dock.The end of the pier is about knee deep water.Unless youre looking to fish for small aquarium sized fish, this resort is not for you.Extremely deceiving on their website, and something they should have mentioned when we called inquiring about fishing.On busy days you wont even have a chance to fish due to the fact that people swim at the end of the pier due to the water being so swallow, and the pier so short.The only boats they have are paddle and kayak boats which they do not allow for fishing.In-turn there are no small boats you can take out to fish decent sized fish.Extremely disappointing resort.

After staying on THE coldest night of the year in all of FL, I can say it was enjoyable. Very peaceful. They said pool was heated, but I think they meant solar heated, and the sky had been cloudy throughout the day. (Wasnt expecting a hot tub feel, but some warmth in pool would have been nice). Room was smallish, but was only in there to sleep anyway. Very clean and friendly. Thanks!

Typical south Florida stucco buildings. Nice room. Friendly staff, but refused to do right by us after battery in smoke detector died in the middle of the night and beeped every few seconds even after we removed the dead battery. A great weekend diminished by a 9-volt battery, a sleepless night and a cheap owner. They dont answer the office phone after 8-9pm and blamed us for not thinking clearly enough to look for an emergency number at 3-4am.

Very clean lots of things to do. Disappointed that you could not take kayaks out before 9:00 am though.

Nice place for the money bring the fan the highways a little loud but other than that no problems nice and clean cold air conditioner cant go wrong.

Owner told us when booking the place was packed, it was a ghost town. Owner was very nosey and in our business and seemed to be following us. Her oldest son, I caught staring at me constantly. He began to knock on my door and just walk in when he saw my friend out fishing. He told me that he also makes his Moms bed every day. Ok Norman. The biggest mistake in staying there was she thought I was drunk and called the cops. I was so scared I said please dont take me to jail and lock me up, I will die. That was a suicide threat they said and took me to a mental hospital. My blood alcohol level was .05, not drunk. I will never stay at the Bates Motel again. Ran by freaks and I have the cops called for being smashed at .5, BELOW LEGAL LIMIT. She doesnt like partying, its a convalescent center.

My wife and I spent three days here in June. Absolutely loved it. Low key, laid back, what the Keys experience should be. Try it, youll like it.

Room was very clean. Unfortunately it rained the whole time so we didnt get to enjoy the grounds, but the pool looked nice. Beds were comfortable and kitchen well stocked.
