DO NOT GO HERE. BWS has installed cameras and police will be called and you will be issued a citation. DO NOT GO HERE. I just wanted to see the waterfalls. We picked up trash left behind by ignorant people. We stayed on the trail and were respectful, but I understand the rationale for not going up there - safety. DO NOT GO HERE.
Found this hike on some guys website. Some report it as 3 miles round trip it seemed a bit more due to the many inclines. The area where you can swim in is pretty close to the beginning while the falls are much further up. Not a bad hike even for a fat guy like myself. Entrance is by the keep out sign. Be respectful to the people who live there. Dont block the driveways, mailboxes and keep it down.
This is a difficult hike many areas you have to climb by rope. not for children you have to be in good condition to do it. a lot of climbing by rock in a really slippering areas.
If you Google map hamama falls trail it does not start in Honolulu, it is on the windward side, make sure you are headed in the right direction. Easy trail, short hike to waterfall, nice swimming hole near beginning of trail, good photo opportunitys. There are other waterfalls near by but are a lot harder to access, bug spray sometimes needed. Likes appreciated, mahalo.
So much fun hiking here! The jumping holes were fun! The waterfall freezing and beautiful!
Fun trail! First part is gravel, second part is a mix of gravel and mud. Expect to get wet and dirty. Falls were pretty, but small area and with less than 20 people total around, it felt crowded. There is a swimming hole before the second half of the trail (where it starts getting steep). Overall fun, worth the effort. Water was cold! So maybe better in spring or summer.
Be aware! I was up there yesterday, the were several police officers enforcing the trespassing signs and one person even got arrested. Looks like they getting serious about going up to the falls unless you want to chance getting arrested stay away
Easy hike about 20- 30 minutes in. Great for picture taking, pond is not deep enough to swim. I saw older people with canes and walking issues up there, so intensity level is I would say low to intermediate, since you do have to step up once you get to the waterfall. Please take your rubbish with you and be considerate of others waiting to take pictures, dont hog the waterfall too long...lol.
Great hike with a nice waterfall at the end. Rain forest like trail
The best falls on the island. In my humble opinion.
The walk in is residential so park with care to residents. Nice little low to moderate hike. We had kids with us and they were loving it. The sounds of the trees and birds was like music. Hike is paved in some parts. Expect to get a little dirty. Some uphill walking. End result is a pretty ice cold waterfall.
We are out of shape and it was alot of uphill! It is very beautiful and worth the hike but by no means is it easy to moderate ! I did drink 4 bottles of water on the hike and we stopped a rested quite a bit! Yes 5 year old can make it no problem because they are full of energy lol! Bottom line it was amazing but expect a hour hard uphill hike! Would do again!
It was an uphill hike, but super easy. I took my puppy and we both loved it. Shade the whole way so it wasnt too hot and the swimming water was super clear, right after a storm! Loved it, totally worth doing the entire hike. I will definitely go again
This is a great hike for hikers of all experience levels. There is plenty of parking along the residential street at the trailhead, just be sure to be respectful of the property and driveways. The gate will be shut and labeled with no trespassing signs. Feel free to walk right around it on the well-worn trail where hundreds of other people have done it. The first half of the trail is a gravel road, with very little incline. Eventually, it turns to a dirt trail that gets a good bit steeper on and off until you reach the waterfall. Even if theres been no recent rain, this is one of the more beautiful falls on the island. Theres also a nice swimming hole about halfway down the trail. There should be an obvious path to follow, and its about 15-20 yds off of the main trail. It can be a little muddy at times, but you can make it in almost any foot gear if youre careful.
Police are there. I would suggest driving out to the north shore and checking out the waves instead. Don’t trespass you could possibly get arrested.
PLEASE NOTE: Hamama Falls is part of the Waihee Valley watershed. Its Board of Water Supply land and as such is deemed private property. There is a locked gate and barriers to prevent trespassers. There is a large sign on the gate warning that trespassers are subject to arrest. HPD officers have been stationing themselves in and around the area to arrest hikers going into or coming out of the trail. I live next to the trailhead and have watched these arrests. You are being warned. A word to the wise should be sufficient!
We too, encountered a (polite) cop asking us not to trespass.
Well worth the hike up. Pretty hike, take a camera !!
Absolutely love this hike. Its definitely safe for children and the whole family. Make sure to wear hiking shoes. It gets muddy and a little hard to climb in slippers. Cheers and Namaste!
Beautiful! First time doing the trail and the people on the trail were very friendly and courteous.
Easy scenic hike to a nice waterfall
Awesome awesome hike! Definitely worth the uphill hike. Wear stuff that can get wet and muddy, and youll want a good tread type of shoe. Not a hike for the handicap or injured. Kids can handle it, but toddlers or very impatient kids wont handle the climb and the length of this hike. Give yourself at least 3 hrs round trip.
Beautiful falls and trails to explore and take pictures
Moderate hike for beginners, clear path to follow, falls are worth the trip because you can go in them and theyre beautiful
Heck of a hike but worth it. Feels like air-conditioning when you get to the falls
One of the best in Oahu. Love it!
One of my favorite hikes in Oahu.
Nice hike. Muddy, steep, crowded, teenagers in the bushes
Police officer stationed at entrance sending people away.
Very nice hike to get here
Easy pathway, gorgeous hike, accessible for beginners, kids and dawgs
Easy hike, safe, excellent payoff
Well worth the trek up the mountain.
