A must see as you go towards the North Shore from Honolulu. Its a beautiful Buddhist temple. Cost 5 dollars entry. Set in lovely gardens. Large ornate Japanese bell. Swans. Flowers and set against the backdrop of scenic Hawaiian mountains.
Great stop for any tourist or local. Even during COVID, this is a nice spot to check out and be out & about, socially distanced. They have a great Kamaaina rate too. Go ring the bell, walk through the temple, and finish it off by feeding the koi in their giant pond. Bags of fish food are $2, available at the gift shop. Also a perfect spot for pictures with the family.
Went very early and we had the place almost to ourselves. The pictures were great. Beautiful Temple and grounds
Wow, this temple is stunning. Between the koi pond, the mountain backdrop, and the temple itself, it almost doesn’t look real. Well worth a side trip to check it out and ring the giant bell.
Beautiful temple. Employees are kind.A must see while in Oahu.
This is a must see stop. The cemetery grounds leading up to the temple are beautifully maintained. When we parked there was a small, very reasonable, fee. As you walk into the view of the temple you are quickly put into a calm and humbling place. Enjoy the big bell, the meditation hut, and the little gift shop that sells fish food. Take your time in the temple, but enjoy the grounds. It is a well done temple and one the entire family can enjoy!
Such a quiet place of reflection, except when someone rings the huge bell! You can buy a bit of food to feed the koi and the birds.
Beautiful place hidden in the back of the cemetery. One visit is more than enough, you will probably spend about 30 mins here tops.
Real life Mortal Kombat backgrounds. Hell of a hike. Gorgeous
Worth a trip to see it. Feeding the Koi fish was probably my daughters favorite part. Having an entry cost for locals is a bit of a downer but it is peaceful and probably contributes to how empty it is.
Beautiful place! Amazing temple surrounded by ponds and gardens. The only activities are to feed the fish, shop for souvenirs, ask for a wish hitting a huge bell or just meditate inside the temple.
A very nice place to visit and take in the natural surroundings. The price is $5.00 to enter which isn’t bad. I would highly recommend to bring a camera because the photos you can take here are going to be amazing. There is a bell you can ring when you enter which is fun. In the temple you have to take off your shoes but you can light an incense when your there and the Buddha inside is huge. They also have ponds full of koi fish and some black swans.
I felt so nice and peaceful while I was there. The main goal was to stop for a minute and take a picture and leave. I ended up staying one hour or longer. It has a small, cute gift shop that sells food for the fish and souvenirs. Just walk around, feed the animals and enjoy the nice atmosphere. I also liked that it was not that crowded like everything else on that island.
So peaceful, can burst your stress bubblegum.
Ladies working the front let us borrow an umbrella. They were very nice and the temple was beautiful.
Peaceful and tranquil. Make sure to ring the bell.
Really spectactular place and looks so authentic, its hard to believe that its a replica, looks so original. We did this on a tour of the island and enjoyed the time that we spent here, not too crowded. We both rang the huge gong that is supposed to bring good luck. Small queue to do this.Visited the temple, have to take off our shoes to do this as a sacred place.Top island attraction.
This is a place you really should visit at least once! The surroundings are stunning and tranquil, but not all of the visitors are (some people took ringing the giant bell as a personal challenge to make the most noise), so you may not find a chance to meditate unless you wander off a bit.The gift shop has the usual things, but there were a few vendors scattered on the premises were locally-crafted items that are more worth you attention and money.
It was very calm and peaceful. Beautiful place with so much history. We spent an hour. Had fresh young coconut water and the soft pulp inside. They were also selling all kinds of fresh fruit juices
Really beautiful $10 entry fee
This is a truly serene and beautiful place tucked in the back of the valley of the temples. The guy at the ticket both is super nice. We loved the temple and all the fish and birds. My kids did great here and loved to see the rich culture. I highly recommend this as a visit.
Wow, wow, wow, wow, this place! We were on a trip to the northeast side of the island, and thanks to Lonely Planet, decided to stop here. Its simply incredible. There is a temple, which is a fairly standard Buddhist Temple, but the grounds and the views are simply breathtaking. The gift shop is fully stocked with all the Chinese souvenirs you could want. The entrance fee is only $5, and be prepared, they are adamant, almost to the point of being difficult, about needing exact change. Otherwise, this is a cant-miss.
This is such a peaceful place. It made me feel so good to be there. It’s a place I can visit over and over again .
Beautiful Japanese BuddhistTemple hidden in the back. $5 entry fee. When you pay the entrance fee and walk across the bridge you enter a serene landscape with koi ponds, statues and if you are lucky exotic animals.Be sure to post a note on the tree and ring the large bell for luck.
Beautiful temple with koi and other animals like cats, swans, and peacocks.Bring mosquito repellant!
Amazing place a must when on the island
This is one of our favorite spots on the island. We always bring visitors here because it is so peaceful and beautiful. The entry price is fair. The grounds are kept very clean and the employees are helpful and polite. There are bathrooms behind the gift shop, which is a cute little store. Buy some fish food while youre there because the koi fish and the local birds are very fun to feed. Give yourself at least 30 minutes to enjoy walking around. There can be mosquitoes so bring some spray too.
Lovely temple. Perfect stop for the family. Tranquil and peaceful temple nestled in a gorgeous mountain setting. Wonderful architecture. The kids had a great time gonging the huge bell and feeding the koi and birds at the pond. Cute little gift shop to get the food for the pond after we took off our shoes and lit our incense in the temple. Short stop but worth it.
It was beautiful, small bags of fish food $2 ea. Also kaimaina discount only $3 for admission. Regular is $5 *prices might change* They also sell coins 3 for $10 or 1 for $5. Parking is small but you can park along the road that doesnt say (no parking) it was beautiful and amazing. The also have a giant bell you can ring. Just be respectful and take your shoes off inside, I recommend bring cash. They have small vendors there also that sell some neat stuff.
Very nice temple. Entrance is only 5$, while parking is free. Definitely worth it.
Beautiful place for peace and tranquility despite becoming a tourist attraction. For locals who havent been here in awhile, like myself, there is now an entrance fee so bring cash. Parking is free and stalls are available though extremely limited, but you can still park next to all the graves in Valley of the Temple and just walk over (just not on the graves, be respectful folks). Bring some insect repellent as mosquitoes are plentiful.Overall the place is well maintained and nearly picture perfect.
Fabulous Temple. is a local iconic place that is now in the category of a dont miss Oahu attraction.
Beautiful temple and the architecture is amazing.
Nice place to relax and watch koi fish.
Lovely relaxing place to walk around, take pictures, or meditate
Beautifully landscaped. The temple was my first time ever visiting. The drive up is something to taken in. Be sure to take it all in. You can capture some really great photography.
Beautiful well maintained area. Very peaceful and picturesque.
Its waiting for you
Very beautiful and peaceful temple. There is a big parking lot which might get filled up quickly. Near the entrance is a big sacred bell which people are allowed to ring. The sound from it really brings an positive energy to the place. A nice serene place in Oahu to pray and know Japanese culture as well.
This is an easy going and calm place to visit. There is a big bell to ring, scenic views, and animals to feed ($2) for the kids. My daughter had a lot of fun and I thought it was a calm place to be. You have to drive through a seminary to get there and that sets the quiet tone. Still very much worth a walk. I think it was a few dollars to get it and I thought it was a wonderful spot.
Buddhist temple, you feel peace and harmony. another world moves you Admission is $ 5 only. Being in contact with nature does not have a price. the public comes with respect to this place. It is an unforgettable unoc experience in its class. highly recommended.
Very well maintained Park where there are a collection of various religious places of worship, such as roman Catholic Church, a small Cathedral, the Byodo-In Temple and a Chinese shrine. The place we most spent our time was the amazing replica of the Bydo-in temple from Japan. Entry to the temple is $5 per adult, cheaper for children, and is most deffinately worth a visit. The gardens and building are well maintained, the temple its self looks amazing in photos as does the bridge you cross to get there. Theres a reasonable size car park but this can fill quickly depending on the time of day. We went early morning so had no problems. Highly recommend you visit this place.
Love the temple and surrounding nature. Beautiful cemetery.
Neat to see. Pretty cool as how when you pull in, you see all the different religion grave sites.
No worries, felt in peace and comment came from the heart
The temple is absolutely amazing! It’s actually a copy of the famous temple in Japan. The lovely pond with fish, ducks and some turtles they also have small gift shop with oriental souvenirs. Very calm and colorful place to visit and relax. Great atmosphere there.
Very nice peaceful and beautiful place. Not a place for your kids to be running around so be respectful and responsible for them if you bring them.
No way you are in Hawaii and skip this place, magical and peaceful atmosphere, the temple is beautiful so are the trees and fish, and the store(a bit too small) has very unique and special souvenirs(we were a group of 11 and we each picked one :-)
We arrived here in the morning and, despite it being packed, were able to find a close parking space. The parking team was great and really made it efficient. The Byodo-In Temple itself is very beautiful and the black swan and koi fish were a nice touch. We didnt walk in the temple because of the no shoes rule but enjoyed the outside well enough. The gift shop was nice with the expected typical souvenirs. Overall, we had a good time here and enjoyed our pictures.
This place is amazing. Never seen a temple in my life before. It is so peaceful. Its build at the perfect spot. Like it belongs there in the nature. You can buy fish food and feed the fish from the store there so do not feed them bread or anything else. There is a parking for those who drive.
This place is amazing! So awesome to experience this and honestly I would pay to go back again and again! I think it was $5 to enter per person and worth every penny! The staff that runs it is also incredible, definitely a must while on Oahu
Absolute beauty, reverent, meditative, and a serene break from the world.
A place of serenity. I enjoyed sitting and reflecting here. Loved feeding the fish and birds. Many roaming cats. The black swans are beautiful and saw a turtle as well. Gift shop is pricey, but to be expected. Will definitely return. Not much parking, but a very nice polynesian man does a wonderful job directing cars and parking. Bamboo trees/nest was amazing to see.
Beautiful Buddhist temple here in Oahu, Hawaii out in like this tropical forest in the middle of nowhere. Tranquil place to visit for some peaceful moment on your vacation. You can ring the giant bell with the log with a rope and light some incense and bow three time to Buddha if you choose. Remember to take off your shoes if you want to enter the temple.
This is such a beautiful and serene attraction on the windward side of the island. Its inexpensive and easy to find. We loved the random stray cats and my son enjoyed feeding the Koi fish, black swans, and other birds. Worth making time to visit.
What a beautiful and peaceful place. All I can really say is if you are on the island, you should really take the time to stop by for the architecture, the natural beauty of the surrounding nature, and serenity.
Youll step back in time, inside this gem of a temple. Beautiful place to reflect. Take your time, if you can afford it. Dont forget to try the fresh coconut water next to the gift shop.
Beautiful temple tucked away. Variety of animals including black swans, cats, koi and more. History of each element was explained on placards as you go and make offerings. $5 for each adult. Gift store on location. Fruit drink stand on site, as well.
OH SO BEAUTIFUL & SERENE.Absolutely majestical place. So peaceful & quiet. Scenery is beautiful. Great photos to be taken for the avid photographer. LOVED LOVED LOVED this place.
Very nice to experience this place I would defiantly recommend seeing for your self but fair warning there are wild cats everywhere and it’s a little creepy reminds me of pet cemetery
This Is A Must See Place. No Vibration
Worth a visit and lots of photo opportunities. The rest of the park is free to visit with great mountain views
Very clean and well organized. Kids knew exactly where they could and couldnt go. What they could and could not touch. It was nice to let them go and explore. There was a very tranquil vibe and the teenagers we had in our group immediately picked up on it and kept it through the whole experience. The koi fish were really neat. Highly recommend making it a destination on your vacation.
This temple is in the valley of the temple. You pass by a cemetery. I believe the entry fee was $5. There is a sacred bell you can ring for happiness, blessings, and a long life. This is a Buddhist temple and the will ask you to take of your shoes in certain areas of the temple. There is also a large fish pond, a gift shop, and restrooms. They also have cats roaming around. There is also a little pond and waterfall a little way off the more trafficked areas which is nice to just sit down and meditate
This wasnt apart of our plan but we were so excited that we did end up going to this place. It is really quiet when you get there and you can feed the fish when you buy the food at the gift shop for $2. There is a entrance fee of $5 a person when you get there, so take your time if you do visit
Great temple, not an active Buddhist temple so pictures are allowed inside the temple. Grounds are very well maintained with lots of bird, and fish. Fish food can be purchased or free for military. Entrance is $5 per person which is a great deal for a relaxing day and a great spot to take photos.
Very pretty place to walk around in
This is not the sort of place I would normally visit. My elderly parents wanted to revisit some of their favourite places in Hawaii so I ended up here and what a surprise. A beautiful temple is stunning grounds. Well worth a visit. Ended up here again 2 days later for a car show which I enjoyed but which didnt seem entirely appropriate.
Must visit this serene temple and the grounds. Make sure you have enough time to walk around and take in the nature.
Peaceful nice place! The bell got rung...
I have been in Japan and visited many temples, including world-famous Kyotos, and I can say this is as amazing as those ones. The temple is placed in a beautiful traditional garden, all located in a stunning setting. You will just feel like being in Japan.
Perfect replica in Hawaii.
See the peaceful Temple and the beautiful grounds. Feed the carp. They are hungry.
Beautiful Temple and breathtaking scenery. Peaceful and quiet. Worth the visit!
Beautiful replica of a Japanese temple. There is a giant bell you can line up to ring and a bunch of fish and birds to feed (some will fly right up to your hand!). It is close to the mountains so it does rain often, but the rain did not detract from the experience.
Beautiful temple to visit while in Hawaii. You feel at peace when entering. Beautiful architecture.
I have been to many temples in Japan and this is the real thing. Everything is exactly as it is in Japan. This places was wonderful to visit, but it can become very crowded because of the tour busses. I highly recommend buying the fish food to feed the koi fish, and maybe buy extra to also feed the birds. This can be very exciting for kids and makes for great memories with the family.
There is a $5 entrance fee. It may be a bit steep for some people, but its a worthwhile place to visit. The entire area is not that large, but offers a lot of scenic places to take pictures. You have to drive through a cemetery to get to this temple. There are signs along the way to guide you. There is ample parking for the temple right outside. Inside the temple, there is a Buddha statue as well. The visitor center sells food to feed the koi fish of you are interested.
Absolutely a must see in Oahu. Just gorgeous and so unreal. Pictures are amazing, but trust me pictures don’t do it justice. The view is just amazing. It’s about a 30 minute sight seeing, sone people stay longer.
A very peaceful temple surrounded by a smoothing reflection pond. It has a very modern looking museum and a nice rest area for visitors.
This place is a must visit while here it’s beautiful, beautiful pictures. It’s a replica of the temple in Japan, because of the weather conditions here on island but still breath taking. $5 to get in, ring the bell, take pictures, feed koi fish, and they had little food stand you could buy from. It’s not a serene as an actual temple where you’d expect to see monks and such. But I guess that wouldn’t be for tourist now would it?
Quick walk through to pay your respects. Paid $3 as military. I think its 5 for admission.
Great place worth 30min or so. It was out first stop on way to North shore. So serene and the landscape is awesome. Highly recommend. Explore some of the grounds to. Easy parking so can be on your way quickly.
Love it there its calming place to be
Absolutely breathtaking. I really wish I could stay there longer. It had a very relaxing atmosphere. It was weird having to drive through the cemetery to get to the temple.
One of our families favorite places on the Island.
Beautiful and relaxing place. Not a big area, but a lot of spots to take nice pictures. Must visit when you are on Oahu. Better skip Dole Plantation:-)
Beautiful, relaxing, peaceful.
BRING BUG SPRAY. tranquil spot for photos
It was such a peaceful experience.
You simply have to stop and see. I believe kids are free and adult were $5 per person. They didnt take card tho and only had $5 cash but the nice guy at the front let my family in for that then even took for picture on the bridge. We came in 2010 and again now, the grounds are always kept very nice. You can see it all in an hour or less if need or can spend a whole afternoon here. Lots to see but just make sure you take your shoes off when going into see the statue!
