Absolutely beautiful place to go for a walk. The grounds are perfect and my 6 year old son really enjoyed it. I can’t image how much the city spends on this place to keep it up since parking and entrance are free. A must if you enjoy nature.
If I could rate lower I would. Incredibly hostile park ranger just screamed at me and my husband for being in an a nearly empty parking lot, taking a few photos. We werent in any bodys way. Will not be back, she could have had an adult conversation with us and treated us with some dignity. According to this ranger, being in a nearly empty parking lot will cause a wreck.
One of the most beautiful places I have ever been! We walked the whole garden it was definitely worth it. It felt like I was walking through Jurassic Park. This place is a must see for anyone who visits Honolulu. Next time I go there I’m definitely going to camp. Their campsites looked beautiful and they had showers and bathrooms.
Great place to explore !! Beautiful trees, plants and Palms. We went to the summit overlooking where a deceased volcano was. More than breath taking. If you take a car you have to be out by 4pm. If you’re hiking there’s a late park closing. So much better by foot.Do not miss out on this experience.
Its a beautiful walk! I like that you can go in before they open the gates for the cars. I dont understand why they have the ugly red cones at the beginning and no pictures signs... its a Botanical garden!
A hidden gem in Kaneohe that is a must visit! Picked up some food & enjoyed a picnic there & enjoyed a drive up & down the Botanical Gardens. Tons of benches throughout the gardens and in good distance from each other, fair amount of parking & many parking spots throughout. Its a great time to just get out & enjoy nature.
Decided to stop by and eat lunch there. Havent been there in a while. I had forgotten how peaceful it can be there. Took a walk down to the lake to watch the ducks and take some pics. Even though it was a short visit, I thoroughly envied it.
Beautiful garden for pictures. Very relaxing. There is also camping on the weekends.
Seems like everyone comes here to get the picture between the trees on that long road but they put up signs saying no pictures on or near the road. The rest of the walk (or drive) up to the visitor center and even a little beyond seems more like just a road through the island foliage with signs identifying what they are. I kind of expected more. So I guess this place is huge for Instagramers and if youve never really been to the islands before.
Beautiful and a must see. Go early. Crowds form fast!
Beautiful area! On and off rain but still had a great time.Open fire pits with no rings so make sure you bring a small charcoal grill or a grate with legs.
Nice place to take the family and enjoy the aloha outdoors. Free area filled with hikes, fishing, areas to picnic, camping, and just relaxing. Nice landscape all around, mountain views and ocean views. Cooler side and wetter side of Oahu.
This is my favorite botanical garden so far.Admission and parking are free. The grounds are very well kept. The bathrooms could be a little cleaner, but they were okay. There were so many trees and plants, and gorgeous flowers. Some were familiar, others new. There are a number of hiking trails and one can camp with a permit.
Nice place to have a look around if your in the area. Entry is free and from the front gate its about a mile to the visitor centre. From here you can go down to the lake and look around the galleries. You can also drive around the gardens to the dedicated sections from around the world, however you will not see the lake this way. Theres also a look out that you can park and walk up to that overlooks the gardens. The park has the mountains to the back of it which provides an amazing backdrop to photos taken here.
This botanical garden was gorgeous. The people that worked in the visitor center were super helpful and friendly. The grounds were maintained very well. The walk to the lake was very moderate and recommend to anyone. I forgot bug spray and ended up getting back to the car, an hour spent there walking around, with only 3 bug bites. This is a definite must see if you are looking for activities when you visit the island. Please give me a like!
This was such an amazing experience to walk around & see all the information they had! Absolutely breath taking, also will take your breath away a lot of walking of course lol
Beautiful place, so many areas to park and walk around. Recommend going when they first due to the cooler weather and less people. Great place to take pictures!
Went here to experience the beauty. I got yelled at for taking pictures. I was doing nothing wrong. Simply standing in the grass taking pictures and a park ranger came and yelled at me. Treated me horribly. They had such a bad attitude and were so rude. I bumped into many of them and they were all rude and mean. It’s beautiful there, but the workers are so mean! Honestly ruined my experience!
Awesome place to visit. A must see when your in Hawaii.
Absolutely beautiful. This is a must see place if you appreciate natural beauty and it is free to visit!!
Beautiful and peaceful. The area is well used by purple who go camping or walking. With the Koolaus as your backdrop, everyone would love the view from all parts of the park.
Beautiful ..peaceful ..hawaii at its best ..the views of the mountains are breath taking ...
A nice, calm place to spend an afternoon! Its very well maintained. Theres a paved walkway with labeled plants and a dirt/rock path that leads to the lake. The lake is man-made but its fun with ducks and plenty of fish, all sizes. Theyre all hungry if you want to feed them. Bring a blanket because theres a large grassy area to settle down at. We visited later in the day so parking wasnt difficult, but they have more than one lot. Its free!
I absolutely love this place! Its peaceful, quiet and beautiful! Had lunch with good friends & enjoyed every minute!
The best place to go for inner growth and reflection on ones past. This is a place to be educated on the various plants, birds indigenous and invasive species that have made a home here on our island of Oahu! A beautiful place to share special moments and to test ones abilities or hobbies. A most green and relaxing adventure for anyone at any age, a natural and very generous place with sights not to be missed but taken in with all the fibers of your very being. Go there and you will not be disappointed but rather invigorated by its captivating views and cool breezes bring the past into the present and sharing a rare world hidden in nature!
Its a free Point of Interest where you can see tropical plants and flowers, wild ducks, and koi (fish) in the lake. Picnic tables and benches are available. Parking is free
Very Lush, very beautiful. Gigantic property. You can camp and fish there as well as picnic. But it was a great spot for a rainy afternoon. The hiking trails are easy! Free parking, free admission. It does close at 4 p.m. though.
Just an amazing experience! Beautiful views, great for a nice easy long hike or a drive.
Serene. Magnificent. Truly one of GODS Awesome Creations!! I praise HIM for giving me someplace to go that will soothe my sense of sight, scent,, touch, and taste. YOU Are The MASTER!! Amen! Amen!! Amen!!!
Very nice! So many varieties of plants and birds. We say in the park listening to the beautiful orchestra that the birds were creating. The mountains added a spectacular back drop. We could just drive around the entire park. The folks in the visitor center were friendly. Restrooms were clean.
Such a beautiful & tranquil location. The lake is full of fish & ducks. The trails are easy to access. We had a stroller with us. So no problem pushing through the trails. Taking in all the beauty on a overcast/light rain day was amazing. Such beautiful plants throughout.
Beautiful place for a picnic! The stunning scenery creates a majestic lil slice of heaven and you cant help but feel relaxed and connected to nature. The kids love to fish but its for aesthetics... They most likely will not catch one, so if you go, do yourself a solid and set that expectation. This place is overwhelming beautiful.
Very serene place, great to relax and unwind!
This Botanical Garden is a typical beautiful real Hawaiian Botanical Garden. This park is not a well known place. So it is not crowded! You will be able to take countless amazing photos of the hills and the flora. Spend there a couple hours or half a day. Try to forget the congested Waikiki just sit down and gaze at a plant or the mountains.
I love love this botanical garden!!! I went to Hawaii for vacation last May and got the chance to go to this place twice. There are so many parking spots and they are free. Came to this place for the BEAUTIFUL and NATURAL scenery. I cant explain anymore about this place. This place was so magical, it almost felt like fantasy. The fog covered the mountain and the greenary color seemed so dramatic and peaceful. Wanted to stay longer and enjoyed the views. I never got bored seeing the views. I LOVE THIS BOTANICAL GARDEN SO MUCH!! You must visit this garden if you are in Hawaii.
Good stuff. Nice and relaxing. Keep an eye on your car. Sketchy people in parking lot.
Been here several times over the last few years. Went yesterday with a friend of mine since we happen to be that part of the island. Found a lady who works there and gave us some information, open until 4ish for cars and 6, 630 for walkers and bicyclists. Open early for walkers and bicyclists and a little later for cars. With covid19, no groups larger than 5 but that can change, so please call ahead. They are not taking reservations but please call ahead for more information since that can also change. My friend and I got some ideas for places to walk and look around from the lady, all were good. Normally, my friend and I go with a large group once a year for most of the day and usually have lunch together, some people actually will get together and do a hike after. This year we couldnt because of the pandemic and the hurricane that came through that weekend.
It has a lot of history to it, so take the time and read the postings. There are also labels on some of the trees, great for the kids to learn. And the best part is feeding the fish and ducks that live there. Its a great place to take a stroll and enjoy sunshine. You can get a permit and camp over the weekend, but do it quick, they fill fast. There are restrooms near the visitors center and the campsites.
Free fun day with amazing views. Family friendly and stroller/ walker friendly. There are a wide variety of plants and birds to see, and a lake to catch and release fishing in. There are also camping availability with a permit. Gate is a hard close time and they give you siren warnings as closing time nears.
Beautiful but not the lots were closed. Love the drive through anyway.
This is a great place to hang out and have a picnic. There is parking at the visitor center and a desk to borrow fishing rods to use at the lake. There are public restrooms. Really nice place to relax.
I like the open air, picturesque scenery and the friendly people.
Went on a rainy day and still enjoyed it. They have fishing pools you can use for catch and release. The path is very clean and well kept. Check it out yourself!
Absolutely beautiful! Go, even if its raining. Do not miss the visitor center and the three art galleries next to it.
I can’t believe this place is free to enter! The most beautiful slow scenic drives I’ve ever been on. So many places to park and many photo opportunities. There are washrooms everywhere and a visitor centre.I will be back for sure. This is a must if you are nearby or have a vehicle! Go early to get the area mostly empty.
Couldn’t believe it was free. You can easily spend all day here and still not see the whole place. Great for a picnic lunch with the family lots of different plants and trees I had never seen before very pleasant beautiful and peaceful place.
Peaceful park with a nice collection. Helps to go with someone knowledgeable to help point out items if interest and explain historical use of some of the plants.
Beautiful views of mountainsides. Restrooms located at almost every lawn area. Free admission. Stop at the visitor center and run in for a map. They have a few special 20 minute parking spots, if the lot looks full. Take the drive to the end of the road the turn around and stop at each lawn area on your way back. There are plenty of benches and picnic tables to sit and enjoy the views of the mountains and the lake. It is free so come back as many times as you like. They play a warning sound at 3:30pm as a 30 minute warning to the 4:00pm closing time.
Id give 10 stars if I could! A beautiful sanctuary and I cant believe its all free to enjoy. They even offer camping and fishing on the grounds! So cool! Great spot to get your walk on and connect with this beautiful island.
Amazing views, its like riding in Paradise! 1 tip if you go by car, make sure you take an hour do do the tour. And cars are allowed until 4pm!
Absolutely beautiful. This is a must see place. So much to enjoy and take in. Just be careful what you touch there is alot of plant life and some of it may be poisonous.
Beautiful gardens to visit. The best picture is at the entry when you see the backdrop of the mountains. This was taken further up. I love that its a drive through garden and they have plenty of parking to get out and capture great pictures. A must see!
Its so beautiful and has shaded trails!
This botanical garden is wonderful! We like to pick up a lunch and sit at the picnic tables and enjoy the koolau mountains. We also snap pictures and can socially distance easily.
A very peaceful place great for picnics beautiful native Hawaiian plants and the fishing is fun to!
Very beautiful. We came here for a couple of hours on a Sunday to spend some time as a family out of the house. It was rainy and muddy at some points, but very worth it. So many beautiful trees and plants, not to mention the gorgeous backdrop of the mountains. My daughter loved feeding the koi fish bread, so make sure to bring your stale bread!
Absolutely beautiful. Make aure to check out the fish
Its a beautiful botanical garden. It was a worth visit. Free parking available inside premises and entry is free. It’s a right place is you like to spend time in midst of nature around.
Totally worth some time! You can drive through and enjoy the beauty quickly, or you can park at the many overlooks and walk. The garden is 400 acres. There are plants from around the world. Amazing mountain views. Friendly staff. Free.
Very big very well kept bathrooms all over and very clean. Beautiful scenery. Peaceful! I really loved it.
A magic place with amazing views and lots of plants to discover.
Big and beautiful. Plan to spend some time going to each area. Mosquitos possible in woody, shaded areas. No family fishing available right. Still quite fun.
A wonderful place to get away from the city and enjoy what Hawaii should look like. Take some time and look at the things they offer, take the hiking trails, and bring a lunch.
It’s the most magical thing ever!!! Everything is so green, so much fresh and pure air. If you visit Oahu you must go here! The photos don’t justify how beautiful this is.
Drive in and park if you can. Then walk and hike for hours. So much to see and explore. Amazing sights, gorgeous place. Bring bug repellent if you want to get water photos the mosquitoes are vicious!
We were hoping for a nice garden to walk around and look at plants. This definitely has that, but its very spread out. If youre looking for a nice park to take longer (and likely muddy) walks and admire plants, then this park is great. But Id describe it as a nice park with camping facilities and well labeled plants and we will be checking out other botanical gardens on the island.
I hate to give a botanical garden such a low rating but the paths were poorly marked and so were the plants. For a place like Hawaii with such amazing biodiversity this garden sadly did not represent it well. The visitors center is worth a stop to see some examples of native bushcraft, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. One thing to keep in mind is that if you get there early (before noon) you can borrow a pole and do catch and release at their lake. Bait not included. There is also camping in some great spots. Id give it a higher rating as a park/campsite
They’ve removed the famous sign everyone sees in the “famous online picture” because they were having problems of people stopping traffic and supposedly leaving their babies in the middle of the road. Ha!Either way this place is freakin amazing! Everywhere you turn there is a photo opp.The mountain ranges are one of the best backdrops I’ve ever seen. This state is beyond anything i ever imagined. Pick up after yourself, leave it better than you found it.
Pro tip:- One of the most instagram-able sites throughout all of Hawaii including their most iconic photo.- Go early as this place seems to get busy around the late mornings. One of the hidden (not so hidden) Gems of Oahu. It’s what I would imagine Hawaii was like before all the urbanization. Breathtaking mountain, amazing natural landscape. Furthermore, it’s also one of the most instagram-able places in all the islands.Just a 30 mins drive from Honolulu and it’s definitely well worth the visit. Heck, you can even camp there for a night if you like.It does get busy though, so you should arrive earlier.
Beautiful view with a nice drive. There’s also a little hill close to the end of the road that you can walk up and get a gorgeous view of the whole park and nearby city.
Awesome and gorgeous park. Lots of wildlife. Good for family outing. Take a camera!
Lots of tourists by the entrance, still a good place and less crowded the deeper you go. They have campgrounds and fishing.
Its free, easy drive, lots of speed bumps though. You can walk through it if you want to. Lots of mini parking lots for you to stop at and walk around/take pics. Dont stop on road or the grass. Signs on the trees/plants for you to read info about.
Most of the gardens are nice, but the security is way overboard. They are only open from 9 to 4, so if youre interested in good light for photography, forget this place. The guards record the number of passengers in each car and the license plate. Ive seen them hassle visitors about why they are there or what campsite theyre in as if they own the place. Very unfriendly.
Absolutely gorgeous. Nice for family and hikers.
Beautiful enormous, well maintained garden. So so so many fish in the lake its like the water is bright orange the shore is filled with huge gorgeous koi! Lots of campgrounds too it looks like a great place to have a function or go camping
Absolutely gorgeous. Must see for everyone. Stunning views, wildlife& plants galore!
The plants are beautiful. The area is beautiful. The constant feeling of being policed and the not-so-subtle racism is not beautiful at all. Basically, if you are Hawaiian you will be treated like you are trying to steal something, or might practice your actual legal gathering rights (gasp) in the wild areas. Unless, of course, you are a known hula practitioner who has done all the formal hoops of working for them for free while agreeing to their extremely colonial restrictions. That being said, it is a beautiful place with lots of cool stuff. Meeting rooms are useful places for meetings (I mean, you expect bureaucracy there, right?), as are the picnic tables. Nice bathrooms, peaceful feeling when it is not being interrupted by employees with nothing better to do than drive around in their little carts and constantly assert wannabe cop authority, or just give the impression that they might. For local settlers: the apparent uniform here consists of walking shoes with socks, khaki shorts, and a hat, preferably with a store-bought walking stick and an assertive stride. Heed this dress code, or they might mistake you for one of those damn natives. And you don’t want that.
Amazingly beautiful place. Free parking and admission, and easy walking paths. The only warning I can give is to those who want to do some hiking. Some of the trails say they are not maintained, and, they are definitely not. Not a bad thing, just be sure going in that youre ok with getting a bit muddy. But overall the scenery is spectacular .
Beautiful place for nice family day. Friendly welcome at the gate.
Beautiful and peaceful. And great place to walk after gates close around 4pm.Just wish they didnt add the ugly cones and signs along the road near the entrance. Seems like a dramatic overreaction to folks who take photos. I think there are other ways to address the issue without ruining the ambiance for others.
Nature walks are very informative. Beautiful views. Birds galore. Shower rain storms with sunshine.
Nice scenery. Its spread out, so lots of walking, or driving. Theres little to no flowers. Lots of trees from different nations. The trails arent kept up very well
Free admission! Its beautiful! Take a day trip out here and get away from the busy city. You wont regret it. Bring a picnic lunch, mosquito repellent and sunscreen. Drop by Jurrasic Park on your way around the island and head to north shore for the Shrimp Trucks!
Beautiful scenery! A hidden gem thats easy to get to from the H3. Take the kiddos to catch and release fish on the weekends. All you need is bread for bait, some good walking shoes, sun screen and bug spray and you can borrow fishing poles at the visitors center. You may want to bring something to sit on, some drinks (not too many as you need to walk a ways back to the restroom) and camera.
Relatively short ride from town. Such a beautiful place to go to enjoy nature. You get to see a nice view of the Koolau Mountains. Enjoy the beauty and peace of this beautiful garden!
Enormous park full of plants from around the world. Its so big its hard to know what to do, and I could have spent a week there just looking at plants. Bring bread to feed the animals, but follow the rules.
Beautiful place for camping (with permit), walking or just a nice picnic in the garden. There are restrooms at every site with toilet paper and running water. They also offer traditional bamboo fishing classes and volunteer days, and dont forget the PERFECT views. Its a must see!
Absolutely beautiful and quiet. The free admission is a huge bonus. I came here to get some hill running in and it did not disappoint. Its definitely worth the drive from Pearl City.
You need a full day at this gorgeous place ! Lots of hiking trail and very well kept.
This was such a beautiful outdoor experience for my husband, 2 kids and I. Free entrance, parking, and fishing. Bamboo poles can be borrowed for free! Clean bathrooms and grounds. Very picturesque, nice, easy walks. Very friendly and informative staff. Park in the designated stalls only, and don’t be foolish and try to take a picture in the middle of the road where it’s clearly marked not to. Bring food, water, sunscreen, hat. There are water refill stations at the visitor center. We’ll be back.
Beautiful. There is a pond where you can fish, several campsites, pathways to walk, it you can drive through it. My one complaint is no maps. You can download but wish they told you on their website there wouldnt be hard copies. I got lost as there are no markers, but I easily get lost.
This place is breathtaking! Clean air and the smell of fresh plants was lovely! You can camp out or just have a picnic and enjoy the views.
Great experience with loads to see and learn. Take a walk out to the lake to see the ducks and koi, never disappointing. The views from there will take your breath away. Take a drive up to the top for amazing photo opportunities. Stop into the visitors center, folks there are always friendly and you can read about the giant seeds from some of the parks plant life.
Absolutely stunning nature! Take a local bus frm Waikiki but you need to walk quite far to the entrance. Alternatively, take uber is the easiest way there
Just a nice variety of plants.
Absolutely wonderful. Take time to just be there, explore the whole place. Had a lovely time.
Beautiful scenery, nice relaxing place to go out with the family.
