Super cool and easy till you get to the top. Please be respectful of the locals here and pick up your pets droppings. Parking is limited so please respect that as well and dont block the street. Other than that a cool little hike.
Good hike for beginners! The entrance is hidden but look for the stairs hidden in the shrubbery. Theres a scenic point a mile in, and another one about another mile or two deep within. However, it does get steep at parts and we didnt proceed to the 2nd half. Warning: theres lots of mosquitoes in this hike. Make sure to wear bug spray!! ️Overall, highly recommended!
I loved the breath taking views and the cool breeze . It was worth the walk up. It wasnt as bad as I thought it would be going up and coming down. I think kids ages 4 and up can take that walk up but 3 and under maybe would have to be cartied or back packed up so that their little feets wont get to tired.
Very short to get to the scenic top, can be slippery after rainfall b careful. Ropes are there at the top when it is slippery. U can keep going after the scenic spot at the top.
The road to the entrance is narrow, be careful when driving. There arent many places to park near the entrance, like 3 or 4 stalls. The walkway is narrow as it zig zags up the mountain. It is tough in some areas, dirt can slide, but there are ropes along part of the way. Theres great lookout points.
Nice hike very easy go for sunrise for an amazing start to your morning!
Poor parking. Beautiful steep walk. Wonderful views to the ocean
Beautiful easy walk through a garden with massive trees and a Jungle feel. Beautiful lookout into the Bay, and an incredible bamboo forest all rolled into one half mile hike! Not as many wildlife labels as I would have liked in an educational garden, but beautiful none the less!
Easy home with nice views. We saw a few people hiking barefoot or with slippahs (flip-flops)
Great short hike. Out of shape lady and 3 yr old did just fine. I loved that it was shady, beautiful from start to finish, clearly marked and had awesome views.
Tucked away out of sight there are several trails to follow with various tropical plants to see along the way.
Great place to hike and get away from the world for that moment
Friendship Garden hiking trail was a quaint hike with views of Kaneohe Bay and Kailua bay. The trail was easy to follow, however there are other trails that lead up the ridge which do not lead back.
Theres a few trails in this area that are quite nice.
Fun hike with kids...just went to first lookout with bench! Started up the hill, but turned around because some of our littles felt uneasy continuing up the slippery path.
Friendship garden is a hidden treasure! Deep in a residential neighborhood, with no real marker or indication it is there, this lovely hike and beautiful trail is waiting to be explored! Dog friendly and a fairly easy trek, there are unexpected features at nearly every turn. If you live in the area, or are visiting Kaneohe, look it up and take a couple of hours to check it out!
Great hike, moderate difficulty, take your time going up and you will be fine. Plenty of ropes during the strap parts.
Awesome view of Kaneohe and the Quarry
Been here before with just hubby and I. Second time out on the island with our girls. Enjoyed the scenery. Bring and use extra bug repellent and comfortable tennis shoes.
Great hike, the view is worth it. Make sure to grab the ropes.
Fun hike beautiful scenery overlooking Kailua and Kaneohe.
Great place to see many different types of trees, birds, and views in a short hike!
Went the long trail. Great views and steep, intense climbs up and down but plenty of great rest spots. Wear good grippy shoes! Love this hike so much.
Perfect day, fun trail, family bonding!
A physical hike. But fun.
Good for a little peace from city...
It would of got 5☆ if the locals didnt keep calling the police. Twice I had them come and ask how long I was staying. I had done the short walk came back to the vehicle eaten lunch then gone back up. Im guessing they dont like you staying 3hours which seems a shame as it is a good walk.
Beautiful views, well maintained trail.
Look up the path to take before you come here. Its not hard, 4, 8, 8, 9 and 11 year olds did it easy. For the half mile loop, make sure you cross over the bridge with a wooden roof. The choice is the 2nd fork in I believe, to the left. So first fork follow the sign it points right past the signs I have a photo of. Then the second choice goes up very steep, while the left way goes over the bridge. There are several forks, just use common sense and loop around back to the road. There are only 2 parking spaces here.
A lovely place for nice little hike. The view is really good you dont need to be in great shape to do it.
A great, family friendly hike!
Beautiful hike. But we have gone twice now and tried to find the upper loop. We get past the first lookout and keep going up. Then we hit the little fenced off electrical plant thing and pass that. Then we go and go and go and it never loops back down. So confusing. We got past the quarry lake overlook and it just keeps going! We cant find the upper loop
Its a short loop and you got the nice view of k-bay. It is a bit muddy and slippery. There is no railing either. So, I dont recommend taking small children for this hike. Also, bring bug spray, lots of mosquitoes.
If its dry - its fun and easy to clime
Steep, muddy, and very slippery, so requires proper footwear. Loop trail with fantastic views (at top only).
The gardens are a nice little place to venture and good for kids. There is a 0.5 and a 0.2 mile loop for different ages. There is a lot of foliage cover so expect wet hikes. If you follow left on the way up, you will come to the Friendship Ridge trail. This is not an easy trail and not good for children or novice hikers. Beautiful views of Kaneohe Bay and Kailua are to be had along the trail. If you go past the quarry, the trail cuts right and heads to a Heiau. If you go this way, it is steep, not well marked, and PLEASE respect the Heiau.
Good hike. Would be nice if trail was marked with guide posts so that hikers would not feel lost in the amazing maze. We got about 90% done with the loop before turning around, despite having the map on our phones, because we werent sure where we were. We would do it again, for sure, if the trails were cleaned up a bit. The foliage was over growing or overtaking the path near the top
Awesome little hikes with some nice views in town
Lovely park! Our family first walked around this garden in the early 1960’s.
Its a great hiking trail
Nice trail, beautiful hike....will do it again
The trail is very shaded and provides good views of Kaneohe Bay. Song birds fill the air and the walk is peaceful. If coming after a rain storm, be prepared to encounter mud. Be mindful of the residents as there is limited parking next to the trail, although there is ample parking on the side of the street if willing to drive a bit down the road.
This is a sweet little hidden gem in Kaneohe. Peaceful, clean, safe, and beautiful forest surroundings. My favorite part was the bamboo grove. A totally sunny day turns dusky because the bamboo is so dense. So many different kinds of trees with identification tags. This park was a great idea. Surprisingly no mosquitos. Very nice peaceful Forrest walks that are easy, but there are some strenuous parts if you choose.Attached is a cool hand drawn map of the area.
A peaceful delightful breath of fresh air
Vertical hikes were dry compared to most other places. Lots of flowers and birds.
Very easy hike. Can be muddy. Hour up and down at most. Good view of Kaneohe, MCBH, and Kailua.
Decent short loop. You can extend the hike all the way back to the quarry. The trail is a bit overgrown, but very easy to follow.
Fun, morning hike.
One of the more rugged hikes in Hawaii! Make sure and take some water.
Beautiful Views - but parking or lack thereof is a problem
Very quiet. Parking was a little difficult but well worth it
Nice little short banger with a rich history and beautiful views of Kaneohe and Kailua bays!!
Beautiful views and amazing smell of lemon Eucalyptus. Parking is a bit difficult to find but well worth it.
Parking can be tough and not the easiest to find, but awesome trails!
It was a really pretty hike. Its like a choose your own adventure book. Which path should we take. When we came back down we took a different path towards the end. I wouldve liked to have had more time to explore more. It was pretty difficult for a part of the trail. There are ropes that one can use to pull themselves up the trail. Its a beautiful view when out of the trees and bushes.
Friendship Garden is a nice leisurely 20-40 minute hike. The trail is well maintained, but may be a little confusing at first since the two loop trails connect, so before hiking take a look at the map, which is located in the beginning of the hike. Pet and family friendly. The lookout is the end of the Friendship Garden trail. When you get to the top youll also notice that the trail continues on your right side. The trail on the right side is called Oneawa Hills and the ridge hike goes on all the way to the Veterans Cemetery. Along Oneawa Hills youll see the quarries, like in the photos.
Fun little hike!!
Did you know that the trail goes from the bay entrance on kokokahi and can take you to kamehameha highway near the cemetery? Just keep to the right trail after entering and go right everytime it Intersects with another trail. This takes you to ridge overlooking H3 freeway. Yes there are two loops and if you get exit the right loop this will take you to a more challenging steeper trail that takes you to the cellular tower. Sometimes people hunt there so keep your dog on a leash
Nice short hike through woods and tall grass. The grass did almost cover the trail in a couple places, but it was maintained ok.
The top is a little extreme when wet, there is some cords hanging down to use as rope. But they dont feel very strong? Theyre stretchy so use it only to support your balance, not your weight. Otherwise, sweet view from the top
Easy and short trail in a quiet neighborhood with a great view at the top. Only a couple of parking spots available in front of the trail.
Nice beginner home with a great but small lookout, well maintained
Easy at the beginning, but there are more challenging sections as you climb
Really easy hike but the views are very nice. Parking is a little hard to come by but otherwise very well marked and straight forward trail. Ideal for a family hike.
Its a good workout if you plan to go a little pass the view of the quary. Wish we found where the trail looped back to the trail entrance though.
It was a fun little hike.
A great place for a casual evening hike with lovely views. Trails are well maintained.
Fun short hike. beautiful views. kid friendly, my toddler got to walk most of it
Trail is way longer then what it says. Also there is a spot to etch your name in leaves, that was cool
Love this place
The view is worth the hike. I definitely recommend it.
Beautiful hike with some amazing views of kaneohe and Kailua. Highly recommend.
Beauty hidden gem of a hike. Maintained and protected by the neighborhood and private entities. If you all the way to the peak, past the top part of the figure 8 loop, you will be rewarded with a stunning view of Kailua and Kaneohe. Please remember to be respectful of the neighborhood.
It was a great hike, but the path can lead you astray, its the way to the reservoir but a much longer path then you expect. Make sure you have plenty of water and good shoes.
If you keep going the views just get better and better
A beautiful hike, and dog friendly. Make sure you bring extra water for your pups. The view is spectacular!
For a nice short little trail in the area, this one does not disappoint. It is well maintained by the local community (freshly weed eaten), not as muddy, and from the main view you can take the ridge trail to see more / burn more calories.
Best part of the trip was the way homewaste of time
Peaceful and a great hike. Theres lookouts not too far from the start but it goes further.
This isnt the best kept trail. It is NOT safe for children. The ledges are narrow, muddy, and the falls are 50 feet and more.
Maybe a bit misnamed. This is not a garden, it is a hiking path. Quite a challenging one I found. We had taken our young children since others said it was an easy walk. It has been quite wet and the path is quite steep so we only went a very short ways and then had to turn around. Also there was no map at the trail head and a sign at the first fork says to take the left one which apparently leads to the longer more challenging hike. Make sure you have good shoes, maybe a walking pole and be very cautious if it has been raining! I do not recommend this for young children under 8.
Such a beautiful place, fantastic views!
Great collection very helpful people
Family friendly hike. Baby wearing friendly too!
Nice easy hike
A very nice and well maintained garden with two loops you can hike. Both are short, one much shorter than the other, and great for all groups and even kids. This place is peaceful and relaxing. The loop on this hike also connects to another trial that goes up along the ridge line and is much longer and more challenging. It eventually takes you to an overlook of the Kapaa quarry. That hike is not good for kids, and is about 2 hours or a little more round trip. Several steep sections that can be slippery.
Quaint trail with great views of the bay! About a 30 minute round trip with the dog
I love this place. It is such a peaceful place to go visit with friends.
Beautiful gem. Easy, pleasant hike, worth the stop.
Great short hike. Well maintained. Quiet. Not crowded (well at least not when we went) The Dudley Talbot trail connects to Oneawa Quarry Trail. Sweet hike with spectacular oceanviews most of the way, a very different vantage point than most other hikes. Good for kids. Recommend long sleeves and pants. There are spots where California grass was taller than me (Im 53) and even times when I couldnt see the hubby (hes 64). There are cardio, uphill portions. Wear hiking shoes.
Not much of a garden but great view of the bay from Ridge Lookout
It was pleasant.
Very limited parking
