The word ‘Catacombs’ is a bit of a stretch. In recent decades, Indy has razed some beautiful, historic buildings. It is fortunate though, that the City Market still stands. Shop there, support it, but don’t expect to see the corpse’s of Monks or an overflow of citizens who died from the bubonic plague.
I was so disappointed. I have been wanting to see the Catacombs for years! We literally were taken down to the Catacombs but before we walked in he told us a little about the family who donated the money for the original building and a bit of history about the market place. We went inside and listened to 3 of his records and asked what did we think we heard. No actually ghost story of any event that happened there. The whole experience lasted just under 30 minutes. In my opinion it is just a great big storage area with a.nice dirt floor.
If your expecting to go underground through tunnels, then this is not the tour for you. It was basically just a basement of a very large building that just happen to have arch way. I gave it three stars only because the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. You get a history lesson and it located at the city market which I suggest you check out.
My kids and I were stoked to take the catacombs tour last weekend. We had heard about it and sounded cool! Well I can say after completing the tour, we were very disappointing. The catacombs are nothing more than a large walking height crawlspace under a building! The history was somewhat interesting but tour no so much...
I Thought It Was Going To Be Something Very Cool And Spooky And It Ended Up Being An Overall Unpleasant Experience. At The End Of The Tour One Of The Tour Guides Kept Staring At Me This Already Made Me Uncomfortable. He Then Proceeded To Ask Me If I Was Seeing Anyone I Told Him No And That Made Me Feel Even More Uncomfortable. I Then Said I Thought This Place Would Be Really Cool And Interesting But its Alot Smaller Than What I Thought Then The Same Tour Guide Said Well You Dont Have To Be Down Here You Know Thanks For Wasting Our Time I Returned The Favor And Walked Out
Catacombs is really a misnomer (incorrect name) for this location and comes from a potential restaurant name that didnt come to fruition. It is more of a basement tour for a building built in the 1800s. You walk the square which could be done in 1-2 minutes, but the tour guides stop frequently to discuss history. 3 stars for the information and getting to visit ruins that are 200 years old. This is not a catacombs, but a square basement.
Great tour. Very informative!
Its so cool that we have a place like this in Indy. If you like local history the tour is great!
Would be nice if it was open. Closed during holiday season, go figure, holiday season.
Interesting enough but not as much history as Id hoped resulting in a really short tour.
Historical walking tour through the catacombs underneath City Market! Our guide was very knowledgeable and we learned so much about the history of a very important landmark in Indianapolis!
Something touched my back and thought it was my sister but its a great place to go if you wanna see something
I went down here years ago. It was so interesting! Its weird to think that this is all below the city
Very interesting part of Indianapolis history.
Imagine a large dirty basement.
Cant even find the place it would be cool to tour if you could find it
I loved it! Very fun!
Could not be found
Not worth the money
