Awesome five star trail system. We totally enjoyed walking the yellow trail. Approximately 2 miles on the yellow trail. The trails are raw earth interspersed with rocks, roots an occasional fallen tree one or two bridges over waterways or dry creeks.Enter trailhead about 1/4 mile away from parking area. 6, max of 10 cars, can park at trail head. Small map (take a picture of it cuz it is your only chance) the trails all branch off of the yellow trail. The branches can either shorten or lengthen your walk/hike. Paths are marked with trail posts wherever paths intersect. Otherwise paths are marked by spray paint on trees. Easy to follow. Almost impossible to get lost. Take your time and enjoy the sights.Big rain storm came through while we were walking the paths. Almost no rain made it through to the ground.Crazy little diorama at the midway point of yellow trail. Looks like lots of doll house furniture. Would love to learn the back story of this somewhat creepy little thing.Another area close to the diorama has tons of pink (think survey tape) streamers hanging in the trees.Lots of fun to see nature.Last thing spray yourself down with tons of bug spray. The mosquitoes are super hungry!
Excellent for your average walker/hiker. Trails were clearly marked with several differentvariations of trails to choosefrom. It was a great 4 mile hike.
My favorite walk in Charlotte. Nice little network of trails. Feels remote.
We drove from ashville to Charlotte, it was beautiful scenery we love it.
Awesome trails, never crowded, not far, but you feel a million miles from civilization.
There is not much parking. There are horses in front because of someones small property there. Pretty akward to try to hang out with horses right in front of someones property. As you go down the gravel road there are other houses behind the trees. Its a walk down a gravel road in front of houses. After that it goes into the forest a bit but the trails are not clearly marked its very muddy and youll have no idea where you are going. You cant see the forest for the trees sort of thing.
What a hidden gem! Plenty of trails to keep you hiking for at least a few hours. Most of the main trials are very well maintained. The trails that serve as shortcuts as well as the ones that loop off themselves are less maintained and feel more off the path which is great if you want something slightly more challenging. Great views of a spur off the River. Despite going after and during the rain, most of the trails were not too muddy either. If you like Latta Nature Preserve you will love it here. Very peaceful park. Small parking area at end of road. Be sure to not block the gate as the road runs to equipment for the Water Dept.
There aren’t too many parking spots so I don’t recommend going during popular times. There are plenty of trails and a nice view of the lake. There was a cute fairy garden which was a nice surprise along one of the trails. Well marked nice wooded trails.
Not a frequented area, only 1 other car there. A nice walk in the woods.
Nice place. There is limited parking for maybe half a dozen cars at the end of Stephens Road which is the main trailhead. Theres also a trash can with dog station and a trail map display. We hiked almost 4 miles in about 1.5 hours. Easy hike, quiet and seems secluded. Many parts of the trails were muddy and multiple small trees had taken over the trail. There is an overlook of an inlet on the river.
The location is secluded. Not many people know about it so if there is no event going on, you are most likely alone. The trails are kept up with but I think on a monthly basis. You will come across fallen trees and branches frequently.Yes, there are mosquitos and bugs and bees and frogs. This is a nature preserve. Not an air-conditioned hotel room so you can call the consiege to ask the pests to leave the premises. There are no designated parking spot at neither of the entrances. You can park close to the gate or at the side of the road. I never had any problems but always feels a bit uneasy. Not much access to the lake. But a nice view
Lots of good shade overhead and we saw some grizzly bear tracks right on the trail!
This nature preserve and very beautiful to walk through and has a variety of trails to pick from.
Great place to stroll through natures beauty, no too strenuous but no walk in the park either.
Great natural preserve to visit. I love the peaceful walks so close to city life but you have no idea how close to the city you are. You can totally lose yourself with Mother Nature.
Very nice, as another reviewer said I walked a large portion of the trails with my dog and I never saw another person. We walked a good portion of the main trail and the Riverview Loop. There are houses along the beginning of the Maine Trail, but after that it was very quiet and peaceful.
A hidden gem in the countys park system. There are over 7 miles of trailers. Approximately 3 miles of trails are on the Cashions Road side of the creek and 4 plus miles are on the Stephens Road side of the creek. The terrain is varied with views of the lake, marshy areas etc. One of my favorite parks to visit. There are several oaks trees that are over 300 years old. You can see evidence of old farmsteads foundations etc in several places. Some people use the trails on the Stephens Road side as an access to the lake for some quiet fishing.NOTE: You can park either on Cashions Road or at the end of Stephens Road.
No parking and swarming with mosquitos. The city needs to do a lot of work here before this is a useable park.
Beautiful Saturday afternoon in April and we saw four people. What an absolutely awesome Hidden Gem.
A fun trail, and I dont have to dodge bikers. A good workout if you jog the whole way, just watch for tree roots
