Its really nice. I like the small hike by the boy scout erected obstacle/playground type course. However it is filled with the largest amount of spiders of varying types I recall having ever seen in my life. The forest is flat the lake is pretty. You may think you are alone but watch your car. Had a smash and grab on my car here. We were traumatized and items were stolen and we have a really old car too so that didnt stop them.

Heck yes LOVE this place. Soooooo big. Very easy to navigate with 4 littles and introduce them to hiking. Simple trails with hills and roots. GREAT for kids.

This is a nice little, petfriendly property with history. My dogs enjoyed their walk around the property. The buildings and property are well maintained, and we live the farm animals the most. The lady at the visitors center was very nice and friendly, and helpful too. She was nice to my dogs, and I appreciated it very much. It costs $5 per person to enter the historic site. There is a box by the register for donations, too.

Its good, but, not very well taken care of. A lot of things being stored in sights not related to the historical building. The guy at the front desk was very knowledgeable and the man in the house was very friendly.

Awesome place to visit. A window into the past.Walk or ride horses over miles of paths. Or check out the buildings, house, kitchen farmhouse, barn Raptor house. Some of these have a separate entrance fee.Just so much to see and do. Nearly 1500 acres of woods, farmland and nature trails to enjoy.

We love the kayak launch. We dont have to drag our kayaks through the mud so they dont get mud all over us and the car. And we dont have to clean them after we get home. Its always quiet and peaceful out there. Love it!

Trails are clearly marked and easy to do with younger children. Some trails are stroller friendly. If you go all the way to the end, there is a fairy trail behind the picnic tables. A fun way to spend some time outside with kids.

We were very disappointed with the paid ‘tour’ of this supposed historic plantation. ok, the buildings and structures may have been ‘restored’ but we were hoping/expecting to learn some of the actual history of the slaves and the working plantation. the self-guided tour cost $9.65 per person and was a complete waste of our time and money. one would think (hope) that this ‘non-profit’ institution would do a tiny bit of research to recount the stories of the Latta Plantation slaves, and thereby bring the history of the plantation to life....it’s not that hard to let your paid visitors know where the slaves came from, how & where did they live on the grounds, what chores did they do, when & how were they freed, etc., etc.

I dont know what to say it was ok. No one was there to really explain anything you just have to read the map.

Very well-maintained and well-preserved plantation and grounds. Very friendly staff and tour guides. Prices are expensive for paid tours. The plantation house tour, though informative, was too short for the cost. Otherwise, everything was great and recommended for those whove never been to an authentuc, early 1800s plantation and late-1700s cabin.

This is a nice leafy part of Mecklenburg county, steeped in history. There are hiking and equestrian trails, room for family picnics or just enjoying a nice breeze off Mountain Island Lake, the source of most of Charlottes water.

The house tour was very interesting; the tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the plantation. Getting to walk through the parlor and bed chambers of the house and explore the grounds was a great experience! It made me feel what life was like in the 1800s. Something unique and fun was seeing the plantation animals. There were sheep just grazing on grass right next to you. There were turkeys, chickens, pigs, a cow, a horse and mule near the barn and fields. Highly recommend visiting for some local history!

Awesome gem that for as large as it is, is also kind of hidden and off the beaten path. This place has way too many activities for both singles, couples and families. You can go hiking, mountain biking, kayaking/canoeing/boating, fishing, learn about some awesome birds at their raptor center, go horseback riding or just have a simple picnic. This place really is truly amazing.

Have visited many times over the years with family. Had a nice picnic by the lake most recently (June 2020). Restrooms were closed and porta potty needed supplies, so be forewarned. Otherwise a good time. I reccomend taking the tours and seeing the reenactments when they resume, they are very interesting and educational.

This is a great place to go to just get away from the daily routines of life. I have gone over to this location to hike on 3 different occasions now. I did not realize there was in a where in the Charlotte area that was so much like a forest and wilderness where one could go and hike. It has beautiful views of the Lake as well. There are also other activities which I have not yet taken advantage of period.

This 52 acre park has some truly beautiful scenery and lots of great history! The house on the grounds is preserved from the 1800s to give you a feel for how it would have been to live during that time. Also on the grounds is an Equestrian Center and Raptor Center. The Raptor Center is really amazing, featuring many birds of prey who were wounded and are receiving care. When I was there, there was a bald eagle who was sitting on her eggs waiting for her babies to hatched! The Plantation also offers other events throughout the year. Ive seen Fairy Gardens, Ghost tours and re-enactments at varying times. A great place for anyone. The preserve has many trails for hiking of varying degrees of difficulty, but most are wooded, so it is cool. There is also a picnic area right by the beach and sheltered area near the parking lot. This place is a favorite for everyone and worth a visit.

This is a wonderful nature preserve with beautiful long and well maintained hiking trails. I typically take my dogs for a hike and let them cool off in the crisp cool water of mountain island lake. The cove trail seems to be the least travelled. If you are looking for a wonderful spot to catch the sunset with the backdrop over the lake, I recommend taking Buzzard rock trail to the overlook.

Beautiful, natural, huge, and educational. This massive park has everything. Miles and miles of hiking across prairie, backwoods, and trails. It features multiple kayak acess points to get onto the beautiful lake. The Latta plantation historical house, with special event days full of actors and activties. And finally the Carolina Raptor center currently being moved to a brand new even better facility. I personally try to go here each Sunday to enjoy hikes around the lake and take in one of the most beautiful parks,in Charlotte.

The Latta Plantation is a great place to go to hear not only about Civil War but about the time before. The guides are extremely knowledgeable about not just the history but the architecture, furniture and art. It’s very comprehensive and they encourage all visitors to ask questions and engage in conversation rather than just running visitors through a rehearsed tour. The grounds are beautiful but it was a little too cold to walk them and I was there later in the day and they close at five so I didn’t have enough time to see everything. I plan on returning and would definitely recommend this for anyone at any age.

A fun little field trip. We went on a homeschool day and it was a great learning experience. Too many people let their kids run completely out of control but the experience from the actual plantation itself was good. Story times in different buildings. The map could have been better labeled and the event online didnt mention extra costs for the horse drawn wagon so we just opted out of that.

There are a few different trails to run here.I used the all trails map in order to map my location because the maps and signs there are helpful but do not really give an accurate distanceHill trail is where I start and is a nice trail mostly fairly flat gravel so very nice and easy to runI usually split off into split rock after and would be a great trail with a gorgeous view of the lake in order to stop and look at but be VERY careful of the rocks if you choose to run/jog this part (which I do) its a fun run but you have to watch your footing or you will roll an ankle easily

For a low price during the pandemic the grounds are really interesting and we got a snapshot view of life as a small farm owner and slaveholder was like as well as the brutal lives of slaves there on site.
