I enjoyed hiking in the Latta Nature Preserve - Latta Plantation Trails. Hiking along the water was fun and relaxing. The water view was amazing. Definitely highly recommend the Cattail trail. The end of the trail takes you to the peck with a beautiful view of the lake. I really enjoy the Audubon Trail because the little guys built with sticks a long the trail and a wishing well, too. The restrooms are located between these 2 trails by the parking lot.

Great family friendly nature park. You can do some cooking here on the grills. There’s the raptor center big birds, that’s fun when they’re open. And they also have that old house tour really cheap like $10, fun way to kill time if you’re visiting the park and don’t want to hike. Lol. I often hammock here with the family time to time, and have stay pass sunset never had a problem getting out. Nice hiking and I meet nice people every time. You can even bring your canoe out all day long. There are so many big rocks as even an island I go out to and hammock at its amazing out here. You can’t swim out here but I do it anyways I just stay close to the shore and play around rocks. The boats go by pretty fast sometimes. Oh and the bathrooms are finally open thx god.

This is a hidden gem in the north Charlotte area. Its such a quiet, serene escape into nature. The lush forest and water provide beautiful backdrop to hiking trails. Our kids enjoy coloring, reading, and playing with puzzles and puppets in the small nature mmuseum. The terarriums are clean and offer great views of local amphibians and reptiles. Our favorite space is the numerous obstacles hidden throughout the green space outside the garden and museum. And its all 100% free!

Just went here for the first time ever. My husband and I definitely enjoyed it. The park ranger was so funny and entertaining. He helped us pick out a good trail to take. We ended up walking a little over 5 Miles. It was very relaxing, not many people on the trail.Definitely a great place to hike. Will be going back.

Quick and easy hiking trails that give you a nice respite from city life! The Cove Trail is quite rocky and full of small boulders so you have to pay attention to the ground more than any other trail. The other trails are nice pathways that are mostly shaded within the woods. I found the Split Rock Trail quite ethereal with tall trees and lovely green ground cover.

We came here for a group hike that was lead by Blue Blaze Brewing Co.It was a very foggy day, but the hike was nice nonetheless. We did a 5-6 mile loop on a series of trails. Part of it went around the pond which was nice. The woods actually looked pretty cool with all of the fog.Im pretty sure I also came here a few years ago for a team picnic with work. The area was great for that. The hike was pretty flat and easy, but its a nice place in the Charlotte area to spend some time outside.

I walked Cattail Trail, which is a bit under a mile, partly along the shore with water views and partly through the woods. There’s a short pier, several good fishing spots and benches or picnic tables where you can have “your own space.” From the parking area, there’s a short paved trail that takes you to Cattail Trail. It was a warm day, but the shade and the cool breeze off the water made for a pleasant walk. Lots of families and couples, but it’s not too crowded.

One of my absolute favourite places in Charlotte. Seemingly endless trails, quiet access road and lots of things to do in the Nature Center and around it. Limited parking but generally can find a space, even if it is a leisurely walk away. Only 20 minutes outside of the city and yet you feel like youre in the middle of nature. Beautiful.

Our favorite local place to hang outside, hike (both leisurely with the fam, and aggressively for exercise), check out the gorgeous Mountain Island Lake, and just let our toddler run around. I like to kayak here- its a narrow area with lots of coves, so you dont get as much powered boat traffic which makes it more paddler friendly than Lake Norman. Theres two places that you can launch, one of them is handicap accessible, and is very convenient for easy loading and launching even if youre able bodied. Parking is limited. Theres also ~16 miles of hiking trail. You can get a free trail map from nature center on the way in, just past the gate on your right.

One of my absolute favorite places. I have been hiking and trail running in this park hundreds of times over the past few years and I still find something new to see or find each visit. There are a large variety of trails and environments to explore. Many diverse landscapes to see as well as many lake view overlooks scattered throughout. The trails cross over each other frequently so its very easy to create loops and hikes of the perfect length. Also keeps things interesting since you can always try a new path each visit.

Latta Plantation Park is great for kayaking, hiking, picnicking, and just hanging out in nature. Its on the outskirts of Huntersville and borders Mountain Island Lake (just south of the damn from Lake Norman). Theres a great spot to launch a kayak or canoe. Theres plenty to see from the water without the big boats in Lake Norman to the North. There are miles of trails. The Carolina Raptor Center is found within the park as well as an old historic home and an equestrian center.

Tons of hiking and horse trails and the plantation is worth the stop. Not expensive, only $9.00 and with a mitary or veteran ID card, the price drops to $6.I will definitely go back. Latta is a great place but there are a few noticable differences from other parks that could easily be improved. The trails are not marked to match the maps and the maps along the trails are different from the ones at the main building. Some of the trails are not marked at all and I see lots of confused people on the trails. A few cans of spray paint and some signs would be great.Another thing is the thick gravel on some horse trails. The sound of your shoes on gravel seem like a parking lot. You can not hear any wildlife for the crunching gravel. Sweep some off please. A few more trash cans on the trails and maybe some port a Johns in the parking lots.
