The raptor center is used by local counties animal control agencies when they come across injured birds. The Center will rehab the birds and then re-release them to the areas from which they came. These are wonderful people who are educated about the birds and who work very hard to ensure the safety and well being of the creatures. The birds are beautiful. If you are a member, you donate monthly and your admission is free. This is a wonderful place to educate yourself about birds of prey. Stop by and see the bald eagles! You wont regret your time here.

Nice place to learn about different types of wild birds such as ravens, owls, hawks & more. Great place for children. Takes about an hour to walk as you enjoy each station; birds are outside wear comfortable shoes. Check website before arrival. Price was cheaper to buy in person than online when I went. Call to check.

Excellent opportunity to see raptor birds of prey in person. If you go early in the morning the opportunity to see them feed is an extra bonus. The only negative I have is the pandemic closed several of the display areas. If we dont make changes to our environment these birds will not be around for the next generation.

Great low-keyed exotic center for fewly understood birds !! Learned a lot in a few hours -- advisors very helpful about all the details. Then quiet real ones hiding in dark corners that they have fixed but still cant fly away alone. They do all the right things for large hurt birds -- must see !!

Great area - quiet setting, nice variation of birds, plenty to see and do, helpful staff. Recommended for anyone interested in birds/nature, or just needing a quiet afternoon. Gravel walking trails are easy to navigate and you can get close to amazing birds such as bald eagles. Easy to find from the car, located in Latta Plantation Nature Reserve.

Loved seeing all the beautiful birds of prey but a lady was sort of rude when we tried entering the building at the end of the center trail. Told we couldnt enter because our children didnt have masks on. We would have brought masks for them if wed known it was mandatory to enter any buildings there. State mandates that children under 11 do not have to wear masks.

Prices are a little steep to just be walking down a dirt trail. Loved the birds though and will definitely visit again. 45 minutes to view the birds is definitely not enough time. I think the hours could be extended a little in the summer to accommodate for the heat. Overall, it was a good experience and I recommend everyone visit.

We visited the centre in Sept 2017. There is a wide variety of raptors in a pleasant woodland setting. Unfortunately we were on he wrong day to observe flying displays but will return at a later date. The collection is large and one could easily spend the best part of a day learning more about these marvellous creatures.

Sad environment. Visited the center with my granddaughter on February 8. It was snowing and very cold. The birds are housed in outdoor enclosure, many of which are native to much warmer climates. They looked miserable. Some of the larger hawks had been provided heaters, but many of the smaller ones housed alone without even a companion or a covering over the top of their cages. Sad.

We were pleasantly surprised not just with how many raptor species we got to see, but also with how interactive the staff were. They brought owls out on the trails to show us and took vultures out of their enclosure. The birds were active and easy to see; plus the trails were beautiful. Even on a hot summer day, the trail was relatively cool and the aviary was clean and well-maintained. For the most part, these birds would otherwise be dead. They have been rescued with injuries that would have resulted in death without human intervention. Looking forward to the new world when wildlife will benefit from better management of the earth.

Getting a chance to see raptors up close is special. The people at the Carolina Raptor Center spend time rescuing and rehabilitating injured raptors. You can see various species of birds of prey. I have volunteered there multiple times and it is always a rewarding experience. Take the family and walk the trails. We had a wonderful time walking around here and seeing and learning about the various birds. It is quite a large place with many raptors in residence. Tho this wonderful & educational place is in North Carolina & I live in the great State of Texas, I learned enough about Raptors that when I moved into a highrise apartment building in Dallas a few months after visiting there on vacation, I was able to identify a resident living on top of the roof of this 13 story building as a male Red-tail Hawk. In my belief system its a very powerful spirit animal to be associated with as a spirit guide for a person. And I have this totem living on my building. Some residents were impressed at what I knew & I told them I had the fortune to learn this at the Carolina Raptor Center.

There are a total of 34 birds, with about 26 species. Very kid and adult friendly.
