Beautiful!! I cant think of a more pleasant and picturesque place for a picnic or to read a book. Admission was $1 per person. Not super organized, but it is definitely gorgeous and peaceful. Large garden, with former kings summer cottage (not open). Impeccable grass here, very similar to a golf course, with many massive trees. Recommend so highly!! No pets.

Moanalua Gardens is beautiful - lots of open space (lawn/grass) and some gorgeous trees including a HUGE monkey pod tree. Flowers, not so much. There are several interesting buildings including a Japanese tea house, and King Kamehameha Vs summer cottage and a very ornate 1903 Chinese Hall. There is a koi pond, and lots of water fowl that are very comfortable around humans, but they dont bite (at least they didnt bite me). It is very open and though there were a few busloads of tourists while we were there, we wandered around without any problems - never felt crowded. There was also a major woodshow there when we were there that was interesting and had some really nice wood art.Theres not a lot to do or see, and admission isnt much either ($1 for military). It really is worth a visit, but the kids will hate you if youre taking them away from the beach or the pool.

You can see these giant trees from the highway so we stopped by during vacation to take a closer look. Amazing how big they are. Were visiting family from the mainland, so its nice to see some unique birds and trees. Lots of Japanese tourists since its own/maintained by Hitachi

Lovely place to enjoy some shade and relax in the afternoon. There are lots of these big monkeypod trees. They are really unique!! Nice for a photo and we snoozed a little on the grass. It was a smallish area, not a big garden but more of an open space. Families and kids will enjoy it. Go there and take an hour to chill.

30Aug19. This garden has beautiful places for taking pictures. There is an open field right in the middle of the garden that is quite large for running and enjoying nature. There are arrangements for sitting for that one perfect picture. There is a nominal fee to enter the garden. Great place to have a wedding..

A hidden gem! Youd never know you are right next to the freeway. This beautifully landscaped park is known for huge tree canopies but also features serene ponds filled with fish (even a few koi) ..and beautiful shady spots to picnic or relax. If youre with kids, pick up a cup of fish food at the little gift shop before heading to the pond!

Nothing to see here for $3/person. Don be fooled by online pics. You can see similar but fewer trees for FREE 100ft away at a public park. The pond is absolutely filthy and smells bad, cant see any fish, but you can cover your shoes in duck droppings. If you dont stop for anything (not that you will have to stop for anything besides taking a picture of a couple giant trees) it should take no more than 5-10 min to see the whole park. Kids under 12 y.o. are admitted for free, adults are $3/person. We moved here couple weeks ago and the staff automatically assumes my wife and I are tourists, so they charge us $3/each vs $1 for residents without checking (no big deal, one more reason not to come back here).

Sometimes the best discoveries are in your own backyard. So it is with the 24-acre Moanalua Gardens, home to a 1900 Japanese Tea House (the gift shop), King Kamehameha V’s 1850’s summer cottage and a very ornate 1903 Chinese Hall. Moanalua also has a number of very large monkey pod trees. The largest is the Hitachi tree - which the company uses as its logo. This year, the Chinese Hall housed the 2019 Hawaiian Woodshow exhibiting sculptures, furniture and musical instruments. Helpful Hint: The park is beautiful but there is little to do. I recommend scheduling your tour around a special event like the Woodshow. If you want to go simply to enjoy the park, there is a special admission fee ($1) for Kama’aina and Military. Check the website for other admission fees.

This is my favorite place to go when I want peace and quiet..sometimes I cross the bridge and walk the trail and sing as loud as I can. Its just that peaceful, spacious and inviting. Also, if youre military you only pay $1. Go there if you want to have a picnic, meditate or wedding plus there is genuine history on the land-- theres an old temple! How cool is that!

Beautiful trees. And thats it.Seriously, its like a huge field with huge trees. This is a great place to go take a nap at, or contemplate the nuances of nature or whatever, but its not like other botanical gardens where youre totally immersed in nature; it has a freeway right alongside it with steady traffic.

This is completely out of the way and many people (other than Japanese tourists) will possibly get here. Its known in Japan for the home of Hitachi tree. Its a tree that the Japanese company, Hitachi, used in their commercials during 1973. Its now become symbolic of the company and for this reason, many Japanese tourist come to seek it out. If youre reading this and make it here, youll find youre probably one of the few tourists who isnt Japanese.

A fairly small, flat, open garden, mostly populated with huge trees and a few historical buildings. The buildings were roped off. There were also some roped off carved tree trunks, but there wasnt any literature or information on why there were being preserved. It was fairly quiet until 4 busloads of tourists showed up, so the business level is variable.Moanalua Gardens is supposedly the best botanical hardens in Ouhu, but I thought Fosters better matched my conception of what a botanical garden should be with labeled plants and with flowers, shrubs, and other plants other than trees.

Very well kept grounds with lots of space between the spacious trees. Small gift shop, and expensive items, but it helps keep the private garden open. Kama Aina and military only pay $1 entry fee -- well worth the money. Its also a very popular spot for Japanese tourists because of one tree.

The worker is extremely rude. I entered a gift shop and walked towards a garden on the deck. He said I purposely ignored him and he literally shouted at me. He eventually shouted at me “do not stay at a gift shop, I will call police. Do not enter our garden, etc etc.” and kicked me out. they just could have notified me not to go further on the deck if I did not pay for the entrance fee, but he literally shouted and said even I purposely ignored him and even kicked me out from the gift shop and garden (how can I ignore him if I did not see him even?) I cannot believe it, he is the most insane guy I encountered in Hawaii. Maybe there are too many people try to enter the garden without fee so he has been very frustrated. I hope no other tourist has an experience like what I had as it could be very bad feeling experience of Hawaii for them.

The trees are indeed beautiful and make for a great background in photos, however, the price of admission ($3.00) is high for what the park is. Used to be filled with beautiful Koi but now get plenty Talapia but they splash @ the surface trying to get your koi pellets... Also get lots of ducks that will eat them and a cpl turtles....If you take your kids to feed them... A medium size cup of pellets only costs $2.00... Its worth it... The park asks you only give pellets but I see some people giving bread... I hope youll buy the pellets tho cuz your giving back to the park that could really use the money for the upkeep of future visitors. We all can appreciate the beauty of well kept park...
