Theres a reason why this is a popular spot for photos and to watch the sunset. The view is breath taking. The play of the light from the setting sun on Diamond head and the tall buildings of downtown and Waikiki is beautiful. Come early and bring a blanket to sit on.

Theres not a lot to do really do if you live here and not love the beach, hiking or have family to hangout with. So Tantalus has always been a go to place to take a weekend cruise, there are tons of trails, great hills with beautiful views of the Southside (Waikiki area) from high up. Great hills for bicycling and bombing on long boards. You can end with a picnic in their little state park overlooking the back side of Punchbowl cemetery. At night the are just as breath taking as the day. Nice place to take your girl for a star lit gaze from one of the many lookouts placed around the mountain. Tantalus has it all considering its just a mountain with a couple roads that go in a circle.. Id recommend it always. Love it for my in-town go to spot day or night.

Great views of the coast and a really nice park to chill and enjoy. There are a lot of different places to get great views of the city/coast, but this park is really nice with unique foliage, nicely manicured areas to sit quietly. The trees are truly magnificent and worthy of getting out of your car to walk amongst these quiet giants.Parking isnt a problem as this is not on any hike, sunrise, or sunset lists. And most folks drive up to take some pictures and then drive back down. If you get out of your car, you are frequently all alone with the flora that surrounds you.

Spectacular view of honolulus skyline with a bonus of a great shot of Diamond head crater. If you are an early bird you will be treated to a great sunrise over the mountains. Great magic hour shots for photographers. Just make sure to lock your car since there is a high theft rate in the parking area.

Great spot at the end of a windy road perfect for sunsets and fairly accessible. Get there well before sunset because it fills up quickly and parking is limited. It can be a real headache trying to get out. Might be a good idea to bring some wine and a snack for a mini picnic. If you get there early enough, you can find a nice spot to sit on the grass in front of the gazebo. Also, make sure if you play music out loud that it is crowd/kid friendly as families often visit the spot.

Its a bit of a steep drive but well worth it for the view. At about 415 meters above sea level, this point overlooks Honolulu with a fantastic view of Diamond Head Crater.Parking is limited, but people dont stay long, so if the lot is full, you shouldnt have to wait long for spaces to open. The crowds seem to come in waves, so if you want people-free photos, just wait a while.A little ways back, you have picnic areas with covered benches and more parking. This is s great place to spend a little time and get a spectacular view.

Tantalus Lookout is the premier viewpoint over Honolulu and Waikiki. Take in a panoramic swath from the Koolau Range to Diamond Head, across Waikiki and Honolulu, and even past Pearl Harbor. The city skyline astounds below and the ocean goes on forever. If you dont want to deal with limited parking on a weekend, go during the week early in the day. Its prettier in the morning anyway.

Spectacular views and awesome rainforest Drive. Yes the road is narrow and winding. But take it slow and enjoy all the beautiful scenery. Lots of little spots to stop and get out if you go the entire Road up and back down again on the other side. Definitely worth taking your time along the road and listening to the beautiful birds singing.

Great lookout with 270° views from diamond head, through the city of Honolulu to the airport and west side of the island. From the city it is approximately a 15 minute drive to the carpark of the lookout, which is very small so bare that in mind if arriving by car. The drive down has amazing views of the city and offers a place to stop and take photos. Deffinately worth the drive up.

This is an awesome view of Honolulu & Diamondhead. Check the weather & plan on going on a clear day though. Rain & clouds could ruin the trip for you if you dont plan around the weather. Also, bring a long sleeve. It is alot colder in the mountains. There are signs posted about securing your valuables & vehicle. There wont be much chance of recovering any lost items. There are too many trails & hiding areas combined with limited security. Sometimes bad things happen to good people. But, dont make yourself an easy target. Dont leave valuables in plain sight, lock your vehicle, be aware of your surroundings. Not that I want to jinx myself. But, Ive been here many times without any incidents.

Amazing lookout with sweeping views from diamond head to the east then all the way out to the west with waikiki in full view straight ahead. This lookout is one of the best on Oahu and would recommend as its easy to get to with no hiking required. Just drive straight in. Parking is limited. It is free. If all the car parks are taken drive back around the bend to the picnic area parking and there is a path from that car park to the lookout which is a short stroll. We came around 3pm and those were the photos I took. The drive up is also nice with tropical trees and jungle feel.

Such a short drive from anywhere near the south side of Oahu Hawaii.I left our housing rental from Hawaii Kai area about 30 min. until sunset. It was a little hard to find on maps. I stopped once off the road thinking it was the location with such spectacular views and lots of cars– but it wasnt. Keep going up the road and youll see National Parks style signs.Parking was packed near the lookout. But just around the corner towards the entrance was empty parking and a nice and easy flat walk along a wide groomed grass trail between the trees and bright green foliage.Highly recommend just before sunset as the sun sets over Pearl Harbor.Visiting Diamond Head Crater, Waikiki or Honolulu? This view is a must.

If you like steep, twisty switchbacks (which I do), to get to great views then this is the place. It gives you a massive area to see from diamond head all the way to Honolulu airport and Pearl Harbor. Get there just when it opens so you can catch the remnants of the sunrise.

Whether its day or night Tantalus is always a really nice place to get away from the city and have a nature recharge without having to drive too far from town. I highly recommend coming here as there are multiple vista points on round top drive to get an awesome view of the valley as well as diamond head. There are also so many hike trails here too that are barely packed. The drive up is windy so be careful if youre not an experienced driver. Also parking can be terrible as most of the times youre parking on the side of the road. Beware of car break-ins as I have heard thats common. Tantalus at night is really nice to get all the city views, but also beware that if you come on a Friday or Saturday night its pretty packed with tourist sight-seeing and locals tailgating. Overall highly recommend!

This place is simply breathtaking. No other way to describe it. After what seems like forever up a small winding road, you end up at a look out to your right, just off the road, looking to the east of Honolulu. When first driving up, I thought this was the only look out, and I honestly would have been satisfied with just that. I continued to drive up, and found the beautiful state park with its manicured lawns, and extremely tiny parking lot. Seriously, there are maybe 10 parking spots in one small row. Luckily there was one spot left, we came there about 3pm on a week day. After a short walk onto the covered look out, it was well worth the drive from West Oahu. Sweeping views as far as you can see, all of Pearl Harbor and Honolulu, with the beautiful mountains behind you. I always take family here when they come to visit!!!!
