As a 1st timer in Honolulu, you will like the place, it’s history and it’s opulence. Good spot yo spend 2 hours of quality time.Keep your lenses ready and clean as building and locale is very photogenic. Staff is very nice helpful and courteous. Walking tour add to your knowledge about the background and story about the place.
Dilapidated, broken, and looks like a low-income housing project for crooked politicians. I was shocked at the condition of the outside of the building, the water feature, and the interior atrium. No wonder politicians there are so disagreeable. If I had to work in a building like that, Id be upset on the day-to-day also. Shockingly outdated and old.
What a beautiful building! Its surrounded by near by lush trees, and water fixtures. In the interior is a beautiful atrium. There is so much unique architecture, I highly recommend a store to explore here!
Not a very fancy capital building
It is big and spacious and awe inspiring as you look up.
One of the more disappointing capitol buildings in the United States; the architecture, while interesting, is not awe inspiring and reflects little Hawaiian culture and less of the intended harmony between natives and wider America.
It is a very distinctive Capitol building and unlike any other in the United States. The building is not the prettiest, but its interesting to look at.
The Lieutenant Governors office assisted me with my inquiries and answered all my questions. They are super nice and friendly and literally follow everything by the book. They are very understanding and helped me every step of the way.
The state capitol we have was designed with modern design vocabulary. It is a deviation from the transitional neoclassical capitol that you see in other states. The pond, the open roof, the cone shape chambers, the number of columns, even the number trees are all specific symbolism suggested by the architects.I love the open air middle gathering place. I love (and hate) how the middle open to the sky. I love the floor tile art in the atrium court. It is a very interesting building. But I do have my complains about the symbolism of our State Capitol:1. The building is surrounded by a reflecting pool, symbolizing the Pacific Ocean. (text from Wikipedia) My feeling: The two legislative chambers are underground and underwater. Both has the connotation of being buried (underground) or drowning (below water). I never feel comfortable watching our legislators working their heart out in the chambers under water, in a windowless chambers. I feel suffocated.2. The Capitol is built with an open-air design, allowing sun, wind, and rain to enter; the central atrium opens to the sky and rainbows can sometimes be seen inside the building when it rains. (text from Wikipedia) My feeling: The capitol is broken without a proper roof to protect the inhabitant. The missing of comfort overpower the feeling of openness.Design building is not an easy task. So this is my feeling with my visit to the state Capitol. There are sure someone out there that can make the building more comfortable.
Unfortunately for Hawaii state legislator does not an act in an open and transparent way and each of them have their own slush funds to spend SE wish thats not only an American its subject to corruption its time for the majority of these people to resign as they dont know how to protect Hawaii from a nuclear missile
Its always great to visit the legislators on opening day!
Unless someone is making money off you, Hawaiians are amazingly rude. Amazing islands highly recommend that everyone goes. Would be a better place without the natives
Why is the flag not at half staff on Memorial Day!? Youre the legislative body of this state, this is embarrassing and depressing. Get your act together.
