While it was a fun place to explore, the years have not been so kind to Scott Tower. Lots of graffiti and trash, and you really need to be careful climbing up the spiral stairwell as a few of the steps are missing.

AT ONE TIME SCOTTS TOWER USE TO BE HOLYOKES LARGEST (135 ACRES) AND MOST IMPRESSIVE PARK BUT MASSACHUSETTS ABANDONED ANNIVERSARY HILL PARK DUE TO THE LACK OF MAN POWER. THE STORY GOES THAT THE PARKS DIRECTOR PHILLIP A. CHESKY TURN THE PARK INTO AN ILLEGAL DUMPING GROUNDS. NOW THE PARK IS A GHOST TOWN OF 32 FIREPLACES, 22 PICNIC TABLES, STONE WALLS, BRIDGE, AND STAIRCASE. ITS HARD TO FIND THE ENTRANCE BUT YOU CAN FIND THE OLD ROAD AT THE FAR END PARKING LOT IN COMMUNITY PARK UNDER THE BRIDGE. THIS UNIQUE PILLAR TOWER THAT SUPPORTS A BALCONY WITH A CORKSCREW STAIRCASE OF 68 STEPS HAS FALLING TO A PARTY GROUNDS THAT IS LITTERED WITH TRASH, BROKEN GLASS AND GRAFFITI. ONCE YOU REACH THE LOOKOUT OF THE TOWER YOULL BE ABLE TO ENJOY A 360 VIEW OF THE VALLEY, MT. TOM AND THE SURROUNDING AREAS ALL THE WAY TO HARTFORD. THAT ALONG MAKE THE LESS THAN A MILE HIKE TO THE TOWER WORTH IT. THIS ONCE BEAUTIFUL PARK THAT WAS OPEN IN 1940 NOW STANDS AS A BLACK EYE OF MASSACHUSETTS. THIS IS A GOOD EXAMPLE WHY ROADSNACKS RATES HOLYOKE THE 3RD WORST PLACE TO LIVE IN MASSACHUSETTS. I REALLY LOVE THIS TOWER AND I HOPE THAT HOLYOKE WAKES UP AND LOVES THIS HISTORICAL PLACE AGAIN.

Spent a great couple hours with my 17 yo daughter Grace!! From bottom to top is a good 20 minute walk up. TThere are cell towers on top so it is plowed in the Winter. EASY walk. The Tower is intact and accessible. Great views 360°!!!Make no mistake, this area is not safe after dark. I have no personal experience, but the amount illicit trash, gang tags, and general graffiti all over.Take advantage of a beautiful historical location that is literally on your doorstep.

Nice hike up from park. Great tower and even better views. To bad some people dont have respect and have to mess it with spray paint.

I would definitely come during the morning, i suspect some sketchy people visit based off the graffiti that reads profanities and says “im tripping on LSD” still a cool spot to come see the old remains of anniversary park.

I havent been up there in years, but my wife grew up in Holyoke and says there used to be a public swimming pool there where she used to swim with friends. It used to be called Chmura pool in the 70s. She said there used to be a snack bar up there too.Lots of history and a cool place from the past. I wonder if any remnants of the pool or snack bar are still there?

Dont go into Scotts tower. The door should be locked but it is not and the stairs are crumbling and you will fall onto hyperdermic needles. It must have been a beautiful place long ago. It is the top of Crafts hill, 623 feet.
