Cool to see the fish lift running. In the springtime there are thousands of shad, also Herring, striped bass, and lamprey.
This was really interesting to me. It was pretty cool to see how the fishway worked. Its only open during limited hours and for only a few months. Its pretty cool to take kids and show them this elevator for fish. You do have to climb stairs to experience the main event and I didnt see an elevator for people. Theres an educational area when you first walk in.If none of that interests you, its a nice view.
Great fun watching the first elevator and counting process. Large ahead run with some bass and eels. Guided tours are offered with special coloring books for the children and a chance to see Holyoke per generation facilities.
If you like seeing wild fish like shad, sturgeon, eels, lamprey, and sea bass then this could be fun for a trip. HG&E carries the fish upriver using a giant fish lift (an elevator filled with water) so they can get over the Hadley dam during spawning season which is March to May (?).
Enjoyed the fish ladder and the information provided about the hydroelectric plant. Saw an eel in the holding/observation tank AND a beaver!
Awesome fish ladder with viewing room., Educational tour about hydroelectrics and fish also great views of river and dam. Water access trail as well.
It was cool. Id go again.
Excellent place to visit. Amazing history of Holyoke canals, dam, and fish lifts. Great staff.
Good place for family
Great place for a 20 min visit while on the road
Great place for kids!
The lift wasnt operating when we came because it rained for a few days straight. The tour guide was knowledgeable. The kids had a great time.
The staff are kind and informative on top of one of the coolest interactive science experiences you can take your family to.
