Pio de Jesus Pico was a rancher, politician, former governor, and influential resident of Whittier in the mid-1800s. Pio Pico State Historic Park is where you can see his restored adobe mansion and five acres of property, including beautiful gardens. The well-maintained and well-preserved property is reminiscent of early California life. With advance notice, guided tours are available. This California Historic Landmark is a great place to spend the day learning about local history, enjoying a picnic, or bird-watching.
So much fun as long as you have kids with you to meet the requirement.Be sure to take cardboard to save your pants from being roughed up and it makes it go faster.
Peaceful place, theres a guitar case on top of a bed. The case is made of beautiful wood.
Fantastic 2 story adobe, horno, garden, free parking, lawn to run around on, picnic tables
Peaceful and clean area
Amazing landmark. Super educational. Spent a wonderful day with school children learning about the legacy of Pio Pico.
Very informative employee, great historical place to visit regardless of your nationality, its our past of who lived here and what this family did for the area. In desperate need of donations for the upkeep of the buildings/homes on this land.
Very interesting historical place that most people do not know about.

Really cute historical house. Lots of treasures to enjoy and learn about. A nice native plants garden out back with benches and shade to relax.
Great place to take kids to learn about California history!
A good place to learn a little bit of California’s history. A history many people wrongly assume is Mexican which is wrong.
This place is a historic site and is full of spirits. Be nice and play safe in the park, it is a place of celebration and happiness.
Nice venue. Lot of mosquitoes. Still nice to visit bring bug spray
Nice place to have a picnic and see the history of the mansion
Its amazing place
I recently revisited the 3 acre, Pio Pico Historical State Park. I was pleased to see that minor improvements to the Adobe Mansion, that once belonged to the first Mexican Governor of California, were made since my last visit several years ago. The exhibit provides a wonderful example of how such structures were made. There are limited hands on activities that are available for children. Tours are offered when in attendance. This park is well maintained and park Rangers are eager to greet you when noticed. There is plenty of parking and drinking fountains can be found throughout the park. Expect to spend about 30 minutes tops, inside the exhibit and another 20 minutes walking outside the grounds. It is free to visit unless you choose to make a donation. Literature is also available in English and Spanish when touring the exhibit. They open at 10a.m. and close by 3:30p.m. Its also great for a picnic, exercising or walking your dogs.
People are helpful but its empty
The park has gone through some difficult times lately, especially with the state budget crisis. Fortunately, they have dedicated people who want to keep it open. Its an important part of California History. And I need to offer a correction of an earlier review. Pio Pico was the last Mexican Governor of California, not the first.
The place part of history. Im glad it has been taken care of. Also a nice place for a picnic
Home of the last Spanish Governer of California. Free admission. Good bilingual exhibits.
