Hidden behind Bartholdi Park near the U.S. Botanical Garden is the often-overlooked American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial honoring those who are disabled as a result of serving in the military. The memorial includes a reflecting pool in the shape of a star with a ceremonial flame in the center, bronze sculptures, glass panels with quotes on them, granite walls, and trees. Its a large memorial and one worth taking the time to read all the quotes. Its a great space to get a break from the crowds of the National Mall and find some quiet.

This memorial is very important. It really reminds you how much these people deal with to perfect our freedom. These are the lucky ones that get to come home, but they are far from being whole.

Really nice memorial for disabled veterans. Its easy to access and places to sit down and read the quotes on the memorial walls . You can see the Capitol and are about 5 minutes walking distance from it if not less .

Disabled for life...the sacrifice that many gave for our country to keep us free. Respect and gratitude are the minimum we can and should give back. This is a memorial that is thought provoking in its many messages, is a sad reminder of the price many have paid and beautiful in its design.I noticed our friends reflection in the water so I took a picture of them. They love the picture and I am proud of it even though it was captured at such a solemn place.

I have the ultimate respect for those that have lost their life. Many of which are recognized with the World War II, Korean and Vietnam Memorials. What was previously absent was recognition for those that lost all or part of who they were, but continued to live. Im glad to have a memorial to visit for some. Hopefully one day, there will be official recognition for the thousands lost in noncombat, peacekeeping, training and classified operations. Those heroes deserve more.

One of the little known memorials in DC and directly looking at the Botanical Gardens. A great place to relax on a warm spring day. The memorial itself is very easy on the eyes and not overbearing with an abundance of written information. Sometimes less is more.

As the daughter of a disabled veteran I thought it was very important to see this memorial while in DC. It may not be the most spectacular but it did not disappoint. A great way to honor those who served

Its a little way off the National Mall surrounded by roads but somehow it all sounds muted. The memorial itself is simple amd clean but altogether powerful. No memorial will ever be sufficient to honor these soldiers but this its important that we try.

Its a place to offer condolences to every person who served our country, who may be not hero but he is.My workplace gives me a chance to visit this place pretty often. And every time its a meditation, thinking what if.DC has another place similar to this - Japanese American memorial. They are totally different, opposite but at the same time giving you timeto think. If you step into Veterans memorial, take your time and read.

The American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial is very new and shares a profound message. In war there are no unwounded soldiers is scribed in to one of the glass walls that keep nearby traffic noise to a minimum. Those words alone make this memorial one of my favorites in Washington, DC.For photographers there are plenty of great opportunities with a water feature, an eternal flame and many details to explore. If youre touring Washington, DC near the Air & Space Museum then make the short walk to see one of the nicest memorials the city has to offer.

One of best memorials in Washington D.C. that honor the disabled veterans. You really need to see it at night. When the lights are on and the flame in the reflection pool is lit.

This is a fantastic memorial that is missed by just about every DC tourist, which is a shame. Its wonderfully laid out with a huge star shaped water installation and a burning fire in the middle. Its not the largest of the monuments by any stretch, but you can definitely spend quite some time here looking at how well this memorial was designed.

Quiet outdoor memorial in honor of the generally unsung heroes of our military, those living with a life altering disablilty garnered during service.
